Notes:

This is my first time posting a fanfiction, so the formatting might need work. Please bare with me. Don't be afraid to comment. All characters are in their junior year of highschool. Dagur is a few years older, but was held back years ago so he's the same grade.

Chapter 1: Welcome To Berk High

This is Berk High. There are enough students to fill the building, but few enough so everyone has known everyone their whole lives. First, let's check in with the popular class. Starting, with the guys. Snotlout, Fishlegs, Tuffnut and Dagur.

"Yo Tuff" called out Snotlout. The two guys gave each other a bro hug.

"Where's Dagur" asked Tuffnut.

"Watching Fishface's back" said Snotlout.

"But, why" asked Tuffnut.

"Because Heather wants me to watch her boyfriend's back. Is that a problem" said Dagur as he said Fishlegs walked over.

"No, I have a problem with the fact that Heather chose a nerd over me" said Snotlout.

"Maybe because I'm nice to her" said Fishlegs.

"What was that" snapped Snotlout.

"Nothing" wimpured Fishlegs. The four guys saw a lean figure try to sneak by.

"Nice try cuz. But you can't escape the snot man" said Snotlout as he stood in front of Hiccup.

"I'm just trying to get to class" said Hiccup.

"Well, too bad useless. I say otherwise" said Snotlout.

"Here comes Erit" said Tuffnut. Sontlout turned away and Hiccup snuck past.

"Hey boys, what's up" he called out as he put Dagur and Snotlout into a choke hold.

"You know, the usual. Talking, picking on Hiccup" said Tuffnut.

"Where is Hiccup. I feel like punching something" said Erit.

"Hey, we talked about this. Insult only. He's my cousin, remember" said Snotlout.

"Oh yeah, we did. Oh wait, I don't care" said Erit as he laughed and Snotlout growled. He then turned to Fishlegs.

"Yo Fish, did you finish my homework" he asked.

"No, Heather didn't let me. She said that you should do it yourself" said Fishlegs as he handed the homework back.

"What's the use of having a nerd in the group if he won't do my homework" said Erit as he led them off.

Meanwhile, the girls were also talking.

"Astrid, any luck with your computer" asked Heather.

"Ugh, no. I think I need a new one, but I really can't afford one. Do you think Fishlegs can fix it" said Astrid.

"He's tried, remember. He doesn't know how" said Heather.

"Right, sorry" said Astrid.

"What's the use of having a nerd for a boyfriend if he can't do things for you" said Ruffnut.

"I'm dating him because I like him, not because I'm using him" said Heather as she glared daggers at Ruff.

"Ok ok. Whatever. Hey Astrid, you have any luck in the boyfriend department" asked Ruff.

"Given how all the boys in this school are either gay or perverts, no" said Astrid.

"Never thought you'd even be looking for a boyfriend" said Heather.

"I definitely don't need a man. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't like one" said Astrid.

"Jealous" teased Heather.

"No" said Astrid. Heather could tell she wasn't lying.

"Oh, I know who can fix your computer" said Heather.

"Really. Who" asked Astrid.

"Hiccup" said Heather. Astrid just looked confused.

"Who" she asked. Heather just rolled her eyes.

"He's been in our class our entire life" said Heather.

"Oh. I guess I never noticed him" said Astrid.

"Uh, nobody does" said Ruffnut. As the girls walked away, Heather got a devilish smirk.

"You know Astrid, Hiccup might be the guy you're after" she said.

"And what makes you say that" asked Astrid.

"You don't know anything about him. Who knows, he might not be a pervert" said Heather. Astrid just rolled her eyes and moved on.

After school, Hiccup was sitting alone in the library. He was finishing up his english project on his computer. Since he was focused, he didn't hear the person behind him.

"Hey Hiccup" came a female voice from behind him. Hiccup jumped in fright. He looked behind him and saw Astrid, his long time crush.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you" she said.

"It's ok. I'm just super jumpy" he said looking at her but refusing to look her in the eye. He wasn't sure why she was talking to him. She smiled at him before remembering what she wanted to talk to him about.

"I need your help. My laptop stopped working. I tried everything to fix it but nothing happened. Can you fix it? Please" she asked.

"Sure. It's probably just a malfunction" he said giving her a smile and looked her in the eyes. Astrid handed him her laptop but kept her eyes glued to his. Once he turned away she watched him work. He fumbled around for a while trying to locate the problem. Astrid watched him over his shoulder. After years and years of chasing off boys she has decided to finally try having a boyfriend. But she isn't going to run off with any guy. It has to be a nice guy. One that will let her be herself. Won't have a problem with being hit and knows only to help when she asks. Boys like that are hard to find, so why not try to get to know Hiccup better. She knows nothing about him. He’s the only guy she knows that isn’t gay or a jerk.

"I'll be done in a few minutes. It's just a basic virus. I can destroy it easily" he said, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Ok" she said. Hiccup was nervous. His crush was basically breathing down his neck. He tried not to think about it and just work. The virus was anything but basic, but she doesn’t need to know that. He doesn’t want to advertise just how smart he is.

“All done. It should work just as well if not better” he said, giving it back to her.

“Thank god. With that big english project coming up I was about to jump off a cliff if it didn’t work” she said in relief.

“I don’t think a laptop is worth suicide” he said sarcastically. Astrid couldn't help but laugh.

“Good point” she said. An awkward silence fell over the two.

“I gotta go home. See you around” he said packing up his stuff.

“Yay. And just so you know. Don’t be afraid to say hi in the halls or sit with me during lunch. I know I'm not the most approachable person, but I don't bite.” she said walking out. Heather was at the door waiting for her.

“Did he fix it?” she asked.

“Yay. He really is smarter than anyone” said Astrid.

“Told you” said Heather as they walked away.

“He’s kinda cute don’t you think” said Heather, trying to get a reaction out of Astrid.

“Given how disgusting most boys here are, I’ll give you that” said Astrid.

“Do you think he’s the one?” asked Heather.

“He wasn’t eyeballing me like most guys do. Then again he could hardly look at me” said Astrid.

“Probably because he’s afraid of you” said Heather. This made Astrid laugh.

“Aren’t they all” she said with a hair flip.

Hiccup just reached his front door. He walked in and got jumped on by his dog Toothless. The black lab barked happily at his owner while wagging his tail.

"Hi bud. Good to see you too" he said scratching the dog's chin.

"Hey son. How was school" asked Stoick walking into the room. Stoick was the mayor of Berk and considered a local hero. His wife and Hiccup's mother, Valka, was killed in a plane crash not too long after Hiccup was born. For 15 years Stoick was not a very good father. But one day, after a long talk with himself, Stoick turned his act around. He's still tough on Hiccup, but that's only because he sees a spark in him.

"Normal. Astrid needed help with her computer but that was it. But she did seem to want to be friendly" said Hiccup. Stoick knows about Hiccup's crush on Astrid, but doesn't push him.

"That's a start. What was up with her computer" asked Stoick.

"A virus. It was a pretty big one too. If it stayed on there any longer she would have lost all her personal information. It wasn't too hard though" said Hiccup before going into details on what he did. Stoick tried to follow what his son was saying but wasn't very good with tech.

"You sure have a talent when it comes to computers" said Stoick knowing that's not all.

"I'm just trying to help people" said Hiccup.

"I know, son. I just wish others knew" said Stoick.

Astrid just walked in her front door. Coach Gobber was giving them the day off after they beat the Berserker Warriors by 16 runs. Astrid accounted for 8 of them with two grand slams.

"Hi sweetie" said her mom. Her dad left them years ago, but her mom was never really that torn up about it. Astrid didn't know why but never asked.

"Hi mom" she said before feeling something on her head.

"Hi there Stormfly" she said to her parakeet.

"How was school" asked her mom.

"It was good. Left a good bruise on Snotlout's jaw for getting too close" said Astrid.

"Sounds pretty normal" said her mom.

"Yep. I got my laptop fixed" said Astrid.

"Really" said her mom, surprised.

"Yep. Hiccup fixed it. He said it was just a small virus" said Astrid.

"Wow. He's something else isn't he" said her mom.

"I don't know. I don't know anything about him except what Snotlout tells me, which I don't believe" said Astrid.

"Try getting to know him. Maybe he's the guy you're looking for" said her mom.

"We'll see" said Astrid, walking to her room. She at least wanted to be Hiccup's friend. She just needed to talk to him. But that could wait until tomorrow.

Notes:

I know Astrid might seem a bit OOC, but here me out. She is still a strong independent woman. She doesn't need a man. But she wants one. But she doesn't understand the concept of a relationship. That's what I'm going for.
