I can be a better husband than him

Summary:

We are a few months after Jingle Ball. The show made the girls closer than ever, but it didn't really give them much of a career boost. People talked about the impromptu part of their performance more than the music itself. Even though it could feel like a failure for some, it gave the girls a boost of motivation.
Dawn and Wickie are working really hard on new music and one of them may find something she wasn't suppose to.

Work Text:

We are a few months after Jingle Ball. The show made the girls closer than ever, but it didn't really give them much of a career boost. People talked about the impromptu part of their performance more than the music itself. Even though it could feel like a failure for some, it gave the girls a boost of motivation.
Dawn and Wickie were working really hard on new music. One song isn't enough, they need to release a full catalogue of anthems.
This is why Dawn chose to go to Wickie's room get her iPad while waiting on her. They have a bunch of little demos recorded on the tablet and Dawn decided to start working on them. She never realised until now how many voice memos were on the app. She chose one randomly and started to listen to it, but she couldn't seem to recognize this one. It was Wickie's voice but definitely not a song they wrote together. She knew that she probably should be pausing this, if Wickie hadn't showed her than it meant it was private. After a good debate with her morale value, the wrong side won and she sticked her full attention to the melody.

" Reunited after all those years
Sharing the same rooftop
But he is right there between us
At dawn, longing past and present nonstop
And now, were in this closest all alone
About to write our greatest song
I won't kiss you
Wanna kiss you
Oh, I missed you

I can be a better husband than him
Take care of you and your son better than he ever did
On the piano, wanna touch your wrist, caress your lips
I can be a better husband than him
Share the stage something I thought I forbid
In the studio, wanna steal a kiss, caress your hips
Oooh baby, I can be a better husband than him

Back in the past
Singing, having a blast
Long glances and burning desire
Too scared of facing the crowd
Seems easier to ignore the fire
But it's too hard, I have to leave now
You’re my best friend
Not my girlfriend
That I can't stand

I can be a better husband than him
Take care of you and your son better than he ever did
On the piano, wanna touch your wrist, caress your lips
I can be a better husband than him
Share a stage something I thought I forbid
In the studio, wanna steal a kiss, caress your hips
Oooh baby, I can be a better husband than him

Never should have left you
Running after this dream
When it was right in front of me
But you were still there with me
Inked in my mind, I'm extreme
You're my favourite tattoo

I can be a better husband than him
Take care of you and your son better than he ever did
By the piano, wanna touch your wrist, caress your lips
I can be a better husband than him
Share the stage something I thought I forbid
In the studio, wanna steal a kiss, caress your hips
Oooh baby, I can be a better husband than him
Ooh and I know,
I know I could steal you from him
And this time I won't ever quit "

Before Dawn could even analyze what she just listened to, the front door opened and a well-known voice made herself be heard.

“Sorry I'm late. I was waiting on a taxi, but then I realised I couldn't do public transportation so I called your brother and it took some time convincing him to give me a lift. But I'm here now!” Wickie shouted from the kitchen.

Dawn clumsily put back the iPad on Wickie's nightstand and decided to act like she never touched it.

“Hey, don't worry it's cool. We're cool. Chill you know.” Dawn affirmed.
“Uhm... Are you okay? Have you seen a ghost or something?” Wickie asked worryingly.

In a way Dawn did feel like she just saw a ghost, the ghost of her past feelings and it seems like it could maybe have more in common with the ghost of her presents feelings than she thought.

“Me! Yes, I'm great, I was just into a creative mind space.” Dawn answered not truthfully.
“Perfect then, have you started?” Wickie commented.
“No, I... I forgot your password” Dawn spoke and it did seem like a great excuse for a quick second.
“You forgot my name?” remarked Wickie.
“Oh, uhm... I just thought it was Summer who used her name as her password. You know sometimes I mixed up stuff.” Dawn answered awkwardly.
Wickie wasn't particularly convinced, but she didn't push more, if it was important, she would tell her.

“I'm gonna get my iPad and my guitar then we can start!” Wickie announced confidently.

“Sounds good!” Dawn answered.

Dawn walked her way to the piano and made use of this alone moment to interpret what she had just heard before Wickie came in. Was this song actually saying what she was waiting for all those years ago. Has Wickie truly been in love with her all this time?
