Nami sat nervously watching the boys play around. She looks over to Mihawk holding one of the girls in his arms as he sat down enjoying the festive atmosphere of Christmas Eve. Zoro held the other girl as he swayed, standing near the kitchen next to Reiju. Both watching Sanji getting the food set up. This year they decided on a pot luck diner. Sanji didn't want that but he compromised, the party at their place but everyone brings food. They usually go to the Hawkeyes estate but this year is different. In more than one way.
"Diners set." Sanji says shocking Nami out of her thoughts. They all congregate to the kitchen. The two boys sitting at the table while Zoro puts one of the twin girls to sit down, Mihawk joining him with the other twin. When both girls are down they fall asleep insistently. Zoro and Mihawk go into the kitchen joining the others in getting a plate. They all slowly filled their plate up. Zoro making a plate for himself and Sanji while the blonde makes the boys plate.
When they all sit down to eat, they made idle chatter. The whole time Nami sat fidgeting with herself. Nervous about what she plans to do.
"Nami you okay?" Zoro asks leaning towards her. Nami nods.
"I'm fine." she smiles at the green haired man. He can tell that smile is fake. Zoro looks towards the blonde. Both noticing her nervousness. They can't force an answer out her.
"If you say so." Zoro says sitting back, continuing to eat. Nami takes a breath. She should just do it.
"Umm..." she starts, all eyes go to her. She turns to Perona who sat next to her, on the other side, "P-Perona," She stutters, "we've known each other and have been dating for a long while now, and I love where we are at but I would like to know if you want to go to the next step with me?" Nami stands up on shaky legs, moving the chair away to get on one of her knees. "Will you marry me?" Nami asks, taking out a ring from her back pocket. Everyone stare shocked. They all knew the two have been dating, they didn't think it would be this serious.
Perona frowns, and Nami's heart almost breaks until Perona holds out a small box next to Nami. Perona opens it to reveal a ring. "I was going to asks you today to." she says. Nami smiles. "I made a whole speech and everything." Perona says. Zoro and Mihawk let out a scoff, they were the ones who helped and heard it.
"Is that a yes?" Nami asks to make sure, not sure how this goes.
"Will you marry me?" Perona asks, tilting her head as she look down at the orange head.
"I'd be crazy to not say yes. Of course I will." Nami answers moving forward and up to kiss Perona on her lips. Both smiling everyone at the table clapping. Zoro gets a look at the rings.
"You both have the same ring." he points out. The girls look down at the ring in their hand then at the other. The rings are the same.
"My dad and Zoro helped me." Perona says.
"Sanji and Robin helped me." Nami tells them. Everyone looks at Sanji and Zoro. They must have helped pick the same ring. They all laugh it off as the girls exchange rings. Both smiling at each other.
They resumed eating, not celebrating something else. Nami and Perona holding hands. "That was so nerve wracking." Nami says blushing. She was a nervous wreck.
"I bet. I was trying to find a perfect moment but it didn't seem like it would come." Perona says. Nami nods.
"How'd you propose Sanji? If you were there one to?" Nami asks. Both Zoro and Sanji choke, Zoro on his food while Sanji on the wine Mihawk had brought as his gift.
"Mommy! Dad!" The boys shout worried.
"I'm good." Zoro wheezes.
"I'll be fine." Sanji wheezes.
"So~ who proposed?" Reiju asks curious. She's never heard the story. Neither does Mihawk and Perona, they know the two married but that's it. Nami kind of knows they got married drunk but not who starts it. They have never asked and the couple never talk about it which is weird considering how happy and loving the two are.
Zoro looks at Sanji, both simultaneously communicating with each other without speaking. They seem to come to conclusion when Sanji coughs into his fist clearing his throat and Zoro racks his hand through his hair. Both not making eye contact with anyone at the table.
"Well?" Perona demands, wanting an answer already.
"Neither? I guess." Sanji answers. The others at the table besides the boys and Zoro look confused by the answers.
"You guess?" Reiju asks confused on that part.
"How can neither of you propose?" Nami asks.
"The cook and I were fighting like always and somehow marriage was brought up." Zoro starts.
"We were fighting who'd be better as a husband and in order to settle it we got married." Sanji finishes. Perona and Reiju stare at the two like they are crazy. Nami sighs as she slaps her forehead.
"Sounds like something you two idiots would do." she mutters to herself. Sanji and Zoro blush. It's a little embarrassing remembering how they got together in the first place but there is no regret. They both would allow it to happen again and again.
"Still it's amazing you both are still together with four kids." Perona points out. Mihawk and the other two nods. It may have been to settle a fight but they obviously still love each other, if not more now than before. They have four beautiful children and a wonderful family. Not perfect but that's what make it wonderful. Sanji and Zoro look at each other, smiling with love filled eyes. They are so happy and those days never seem to end.
To think it all started from a mistake. But what a beautiful mistake it was.
"Where do babies come from?" Charlie asks looking at his fork.
"Do we come from eggs like dinosaurs?" Oliver asks almost excited.
"Who wants dessert?" Sanji asks moving away from that conversation. That could be saved for some other time, maybe when they don't have quests.
"What did you make?" Reiju wonders. No one wanting to dip their toe into that conversation.
Sanji and Zoro keep their grin on their face. Yup, what a beautiful mistake it was.
