Work Text:
The Miya's had become Kiyoomi's family. He'd never been close with anyone in his own family apart from Komori of course who changed his life by introducing him to volleyball and taking him under his wing but apart from him; nobody in his family had shown him much interest.
His parents were cold and calculating, only caring about where their next client was coming from, just making sure Kiyoomi got himself through high school. Both of his sisters were many years older than he was so they had already been and moved out by the time Kiyoomi was through his first year of high school so Komori was the only person in his family that he felt any closeness to.
But, when Atsumu Miya jumped (literally) into his life at the Youth Camp in their second year, Kiyoomi really thought nothing much of it. Atsumu was somebody that was never going to like somebody like Kiyoomi, he was blunt, anxious and hated being around people whereas Atsumu was outgoing, fun and loud so the two of them never should have worked together, alas, even though Kiyoomi had been nursing a small crush on the setter for the best part of a year, he left the training camp still only having said minimal words to him.
It wasn't really until Nationals in their third year that they had a proper conversation, Atsumu wanted to compliment Kiyoomi on how good his spikes were and Kiyoomi was almost too shocked for words. If it hadn't been for Komori, Kiyoomi would have just left Atsumu without a word instead, he left with a smile on his face and a crush that was threatening to grow stronger.
And then everything changed when Kiyoomi signed on to join the MSBY Black Jackals.
Putting himself through university had never really been something that Kiyoomi had wanted, he wanted to join one of the many teams that had sent him offers straight out of high school but his parents insisted so alas he had spent three years studying sports science so he had a backup plan if going pro no longer became an option. Of course, he didn't have to worry about that when his performance through his university years was so incredible, the offers began flying in again.
He'd looked over all of the options of course, Kiyoomi was a calculating person, he weighed up all of his options, slept on it and then decided on his final place. The MSBY Black Jackals weren't the best team in the circuit but they were home. Kiyoomi knew as soon as he saw the lineup that he wanted to join them. Atsumu Miya was their new starting setter and along with Bokuto Koutarou and Hinata Shoyo, Kiyoomi knew it was the right choice. Plus, he'd been following the Jackals for a while and knew players such as Meian, Barnes and Tomas were also worth following so off he went and it was the best decision he had made for himself.
Getting to know Atsumu Miya was the greatest gift Kiyoomi had ever been given.
Even though he had been his prickly self throughout the first few weeks - months - of being there, Atsumu never gave up. Always inviting Kiyoomi to do some extra practice, to walk home with him, invited him on nights out as well as being completely respectful of his boundaries, making sure all of the hotels they stayed in together were clean, Kiyoomi went from nursing a crush to falling hard in love with the other man and eventually, almost a year into his contract, he plucked up the nerve to ask Atsumu on a date, three years later, they were still going strong.
And with Atsumu came his family. Of course Kiyoomi had met Osamu before, him and Atsumu were hardly ever separated and over the first few months of them dating, he had met Suna - Osamu's boyfriend - properly as well as the twin's mother who had taken him in as one of her own. So, he always looked forward to when he joined Atsumu on his trips home for the holidays.
"Omiiiiiiii," Atsumu whined, resting his head against Kiyoomi's shoulder, letting his eyes slipped closed again. "It's so early," he whispered.
Kiyoomi rolled his eyes fondly, rubbing Atsumu's shoulder with his hand gently.
"I know love but you want to get home, don't you?"
"Well yeah," Atsumu replied, looking up at Kiyoomi. Kiyoomi felt his heart melt in his chest, he always could when Atsumu looked at him with that gentle look in his eyes. "Sunarin and 'Samu said they got a surprise."
"Hmm, I heard." Kiyoomi agreed. He wasn't one for surprises in all honestly, the mere mention of something waiting for the two of them when they arrived was enough to make him feel anxiety curl up around his stomach so he'd tried to push it out of his mind, of course he knew that he wasn't going to be able to change what happened but not thinking about it too hard meant there was less chance of having a panic attack.
"I know ya don't like surprises and I told Samu that but he didn't wanna know," Atsumu complained and Kiyoomi just nodded along, resting his head on top of Atsumu's and letting his own eyes close. "Alright Omi, let's not talk about it anymore, I'll wake ya when we get there!"
As usual, there was an Uber waiting for them at the station. Atsumu always made sure to call ahead to make sure they didn't have to wait out in the cold for a taxi. He knew how much Kiyoomi hated waiting out in the cold, he hated taking taxis too but it was something he had gotten used to, coming home so often. Every time he saw that car waiting for them, Kiyoomi fell in love with Atsumu a little more.
"Home!" Atsumu cheered as they turned up to his childhood home.
It wasn't a massive house, only a two bedroom bungalow but it was cosy, homely and Kiyoomi loved being there. He'd seen pictures of it from when Atsumu was a child to leaving home and where the second bedroom was once used as a bedroom for the twins, only holding bunk beds, a small wardrobe and a dresser where their TV and gaming consoles had sat, it was now a guest room with a double bed, the same wardrobe and a brand new TV stand that Kiyoomi had bought for the twin's mother the first year he and Atsumu had been dating. It was the room they normally stayed in where Suna and Osamu always happily camped out in the front room.
It wasn't a massive house but it really did feel like home. Unlike Kiyoomi's childhood home that was too big and empty, he hated going back there, hated taking Atsumu there with his cold parents, this was his home really. Here with Atsumu and the rest of his family - their family.
"Guess who's back..." Atsumu trailed off towards the end, coming to such an abrupt stop in the living room that Kiyoomi almost crashed into his back, he was about to berate Atsumu for stopping so suddenly when his eyes met the other person's in the room, the last person he was expecting to see.
"Motoya?!" Kiyoomi asked incredulously, staring mouth agape at his cousin who was currently curled into Suna's side.
"Yo Kiyo!" He shouted happily, removing himself from the couch to come and hug both Kiyoomi and then Atsumu in turn before returning to his previous position next to Suna, reaching across Suna's lap to hold Osamu's hand too.
"What is going on here?" Atsumu asked, voicing Kiyoomi's thoughts exactly.
"'Toya is our boyfriend." Suna explained simply, a bored tone to his voice but Kiyoomi could see the glint of mischief in his eyes, he knew what big news this was for everyone.
"Komori is ya boyfriend." Atsumu said slowly, Kiyoomi glanced at him and almost laughed at the look of concentration on his face before it turned into a big grin and he threw his arms up. "That's great! I told ya they all liked each other Omi!" Atsumu squealed, walking over to pull the three of them into a group hug.
Kiyoomi rolled his eyes fondly at his boyfriend, grabbing his phone from his pocket to take a sneaky photo of the four of them before pulling up his messages with Motoya.
"I know that, I've had to listen to Toya complain for months about liking both of them," Kiyoomi said triumphantly at the bright red blush that spread across his cousin's cheeks.
"Show me later?" Osamu asked, talking for the first time since they'd walked through the door.
"Of course," Kiyoomi said to the sound of a squeak from his cousin.
"Well, now that's out," Osamu said, pressing a kiss to Komori and then Suna's foreheads. "I'm going ta make some tea, Kiyo, want some?"
"Sure, thanks Osamu."
"What about me?" Atsumu shouted, turning on his twin.
"You've got legs haven't ya?" Osamu shouted back, making his way to the kitchen.
"Ma Osamu is being a scrub!" Atsumu shouted as he followed his twin towards the kitchen, Kiyoomi looked over at Komori to see he was already grinning towards him, head now laying across Suna's lap.
"I hope you know what you're getting yourself into," Kiyoomi laughed. He smiled to himself at the sounds of the twins arguing from the other room.
This really was home, and now Komori was here too, the family was really complete.
