Work Text:
Rain pattered against the window of the gelateria, jolting James out of his random musing. Out of reflex, he ate a mouthful of gelato. Frozen sweetness chilled his mouth. Catching snatches of music and conversations, he became aware of the silence between him and Scorpius.
Chin in hand, he contemplated Scorpius, who ate a spoonful of gelato with a thoughtful look, as if mulling over individual ingredients. His brow knitted, his gaze intense yet distant. James watched on, reluctant to look away. He never got tired of watching Scorpius.
Slate-grey eyes caught his gaze; an amused smile touched Scorpius' lips. "Want a taste?"
"Of you?" James teased while bumping his leg against Scorpius'. "Any time and anywhere."
Smiling, Scorpius spooned some gelato into James' mouth. Creamy and smooth, the gelato melted on James' tongue, leaving behind the taste of dark chocolate and hazelnut—bittersweet as Scorpius. "It's called bacio. It means kiss in Italian."
James made a humming sound as the cold gelato kiss dissolved like a dream. Drawn to Scorpius' warmth, he rested his hand on the back of Scorpius' bar stool and leant forward. Looking perfectly at ease, Scorpius didn't move away. "I like the real ones better."
