Laurie Strode sighed as she looked through her phone.
On most days, Laurie would be a little bit happier, but today she just felt sad. Tomorrow was her birthday and the only thing Laurie wanted more was for her husband, Michael Myers, to be home.
Of course, they weren't officially married. It was kind of hard for a murderer to get married, but they still referred to each other as husband and wife.
Sadly, Michaels was locked up at the moment. She wanted to visit him, but they had forbidden her and her family from visiting. Something about how they were making plans to break Michael out.
They weren't wrong, but it still hurt.
She looked at the time and saw it was half-past ten.
It wasn't her normal bedtime, but Laurie just wanted to go to bed.
She stood from the couch and walked into the kitchen where her daughter, Karen, and her granddaughter, Allyson were.
"I'm going to bed," she said.
"Isn't it a bit early," Allyson asked with a smile.
Laurie shook her head. "Not for me," she sighed and said, "I'll see you in the morning. Good night."
And with that, she turned and walked up the stairs.
She changed her clothes before taking a seat on the bed. Before laying down, she decided to do something she hadn't done in quite a bit.
Pray.
She prayed for Michael to be with her tomorrow, to see him again.
It was all she wanted.
As she laid down to go to sleep, Laurie hoped her prayers would be answered.
Back in the kitchen, Karen and Allyson were talking.
"She's really depressed, mom," Allyson said.
"I know," Karen nodded her head. "I know how much she misses Michael."
"Are you sure we should even throw her the birthday breakfast in the morning? She may not like it."
Karen sighed. "I feel like it's the least we can do. If we can her mind off Michael for just a little bit, she can enjoy her birthday."
Allyson nodded. "Okay."
"We should honestly probably get to bed too."
"What," Allyson asked, confused. "It's only ten-thirty-five."
"I know," Karen said, "but we have to get up extra early to fix the breakfast, and you know how early your grandmother likes to get up."
"I'll be fine," Allyson said. "I don't need to go to bed up early just to make breakfast tomorrow."
"Fine," Karen said, a small smile on her face. "But I better not hear you complain in the morning."
Allyson chuckled before saying goodnight to her mom. She went to the living room and turned on the tv.
She gasped as she saw the news. She quickly stood and made her way to the stairs.
"Mom," she said, excitement in her voice, getting her mom's attention. "Come here!"
"What," Karen asked, confused.
"The tv! Now!"
Allyson raced back to the tv and Karen followed.
Upon seeing the news headline, Karen gasped.
Michael Myers had broken out from the asylum.
"Do you think-"
"That he will come here," Karen said, finishing her granddaughter's question. "Yes, but he may get caught on the way. They will be looking for him."
Allyson gasped. "Mom, we can go pick him up."
"Pick him up?" Karen turned to look at her daughter.
"Yes," Allyson nodded her head. "Think about it. He is on his way here, he may be caught by police, grandma's super depressed, and tomorrow is her birthday. We can bring him here and-"
"Surprise mom," Karen said. "After the birthday breakfast, we can bring him downstairs and she will be so happy!"
"Exactly!"
"Come up, let's get ready."
He had finally done it.
As Michael walk through the grass, he couldn't help but be a little happy.
He had escaped from that asylum and was on his way home.
It had been a while since he last saw Laurie and her family.
Their visits had been banned, and things such as a phone call or even a letter were not allowed.
He had missed them all.
But he had especially missed her.
His wife.
Laurie.
Michael knew tomorrow was on her birthday, and he wanted to be there with her.
He came to a stop when he heard a car coming.
His hand went for his back pocket where a knife was. He had stolen one from the asylum while escaping.
However, as the car came close, Michael saw that it wasn't a police car.
In fact, it looked almost familiar.
The car stopped right beside him, and he watched as the window on the passenger side rolled down.
He was greeted by the smiling face of Allyson.
"Need a ride?"
Laurie managed a small smile as she walked down the stairs. She could smell food, so she knew Karen and Allyson had made her breakfast.
When she entered the kitchen, both of them were standing in front of the table.
"Surprise! Happy Birthday!"
Laurie chuckled. "Thank you."
"We made you breakfast," Karen said with a smile as she and Allyson moved to show the table full of food.
"Wow," Laurie said, generally impressed. She walked over to Karen and gave her a kiss on her forehead before doing the same to Allyson. "Thank you both."
"Don't thank us yet, the surprises are not yet over."
Laurie didn't give much thought to her granddaughter's words, and she thankfully didn't notice her daughter giving the former a 'be quiet' stare.
Laurie picked up a plate and got herself from food. After she took a seat at the table, Karen and Allyson followed suit.
As she ate, Laurie was briefly able to stop thinking about Michael. She felt happy that her daughter and granddaughter had done this for her.
The only weird thing Laurie noticed during the meal was how Karen kept stopping her from her checking her phone, and how excited Allyson seemed to be.
But she didn't put much thought into it, choosing to mostly ignore it.
When she finished breakfast, her depressive thoughts started to return. She took out the pack of her cigarettes and lighter from her pocket.
She took out a cigarette and placed it in her mouth, lighting it. Laurie took a deep drag before exhaling the smoke.
"Thank you both for the breakfast. It was wonderful."
"You don't have to thank us, mom, we love you," Karen said with a smile.
Laurie chuckled. "Well, it means a lot."
She took another drag of her cigarette before reaching for the ashtray in the middle of the table. She tapped some ash into it.
"Well," Karen said, "we do have another surprise for you."
"You do?"
Karen and Allyson both nodded their heads.
"Stay right here," Karen said, standing. "I'll be right back."
Laurie and Allyson watched as Karen left the kitchen and made her up the stairs.
"What's the surprise," Laurie asked in a whisper.
Allyson giggled and said, "I can't tell you."
Laurie pouted. "Please."
"No, grandma, I don't want to ruin it for you."
Laurie playfully rolled her eyes before taking another drag, exhaling the stream of smoke a few seconds later.
"Okay," Karen said, coming back into the room. "The surprise is here."
Laurie looked at her confused as she didn't see anything. Allyson stood and moved to go stand next to her mother.
"We know how rough the past few months have been for you," Karen started.
"And we know that today would be extra rough seeing as it is your birthday," Allyson added.
"But last night after you went to bed, something happened," Karen continued.
"And we know how much this will make you happy," Allyson finished.
Laurie watched as they both moved out of the way before seeing a man walk into the kitchen.
She let out a gasp, recognizing the man.
The man she loved.
Her husband.
Michael Myers.
She dropped her cigarette, it thankfully falling into the ashtray.
She stood, looking at the man who had been locked up.
The man now in her kitchen.
He was here.
"Michael," was all she managed to get out.
"Laurie," he said, a smile forming on his face.
Karen smiled at the sight in front of her, her heartwarming seeing her mother and her step-father reunited.
And while Allyson also found this moment heartwarming, she was trying to hold back a giggle upon noticing the wet patch forming on her grandmother's blue jeans.
Michael slowly walked over to Laurie, wrapping his arms around her. Laurie did the same, hugging her husband back.
"Come on, let's give them some space," Karen whispered to Allyson, pulling her out of the room.
The couple hugged for what felt like forever before finally releasing each other.
Laurie had tears in her eyes. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too," Michael said.
He normally didn't talk much, so it felt so good hearing his voice.
Some tears started to fall on Laurie's face, and Micahel wiped them away.
"Are you happy to see me," he asked in a joking way.
Laurie nodded her head before looking down. "So happy that I peed my pants." She looked back up, an embarrassed smile on her face.
Michael leaned down a little, kissing her.
The kiss was brief, short.
Laurie smiled at him. "I love you."
This time, she kissed him.
The kiss was longer, more passionate.
Laurie felt so happy.
This was her best birthday ever.
Her husband was back, and her family was whole again.
