*BANG*
The shot rang out before any of them saw which way it came from.
Kate dropped to the floor, clutching her stomach.
"Kate?" Gibbs covered the short distance between them quickly and knelt beside her. "Tony get Abby on the phone, tell her Kate's been shot and to meet us at Bethesda now!"
"On it Boss!" Tony quickly pulled his phone out and rang Abby, hurriedly telling her what had happened.
"Hang in there Caitlin, we're gonna get you help." Gibbs said, putting pressure on her wound as sirens blared around them.

"Abby Scuito, NCIS my boss and girlfriend just came in, she's been shot!" Abby cried as she burst into the ER reception.
"Trauma one." The nurse replied, pointing to a door in front of her.
Abby nodded and rushed in, tears streaming down her face as she threw herself at Gibbs.
"Tell me she's going to be ok Gibbs?" She sobbed as she clung to him.
"I'll be fine Abbs," Kate's weak voice floated across the room.
"Katie! Baby it's OK I'm here now." She cried as she practically manhandled Gibbs out of the way to get to Kate's bed. "I'm here baby."
Kate put her hand out and Abby took it gently, the wires and machines beeping around them seemed deafening as Abby leant down and kissed Kate's forehead.
"I love you, you gotta be OK." She whispered as Kate slipped in and out of consciousness. "Please baby, promise me you're going to be OK."
Kate's eyes fluttered open as she smiled at Abby. "I'm not going to leave you." She said, her voice barely audible. "I promise you Abby, I love you and I'm not going to leave you."
Abby gently kissed her lips as her eyes fell shut once more, her breathing had slowed and suddenly all of the machines started beeping.
A team of doctors and surgeons sprinted into the room. Checking the monitors and studying Kate closely.
"We need to get her into surgery now!" One of them shouted over the noise. "Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to wait outside."
The sound that left Abby as she was bundled out of the room by Gibbs was inhuman, a guttural, wrenching cry as she watched the love of her life being rushed into the operating room. She clung to Gibbs like a child would a parent and sobbed into his shoulder. "I need you to tell me she's going to be OK Gibbs."
Several hours passed, or maybe it was merely minutes, Abby wasn't sure. She blinked and it was like time had sped up, though at the same time it was like time had frozen. Her eyes were red raw from a mixture of crying and tiredness but she still refused to sleep. Sleep was for the weak and she could sleep when Kate was back in her arms where she belonged.
"Miss Sciuto?" Abby jumped up as the doctor entered the relatives room.
"Is she ok? Can I see her? How long will she be in for? Do I need to bring her a change of clothes?" Abby babbled, words tumbling out of her mouth, she paused to catch her breath and looked at the solom look on his face. "Kate?" She finally said softly and the doctor shook his head.
"I'm sorry Miss Sciuto, we did everything…" He began but he was cut off as Abby let out a howl of grief and collapsed on the floor.
"Abs I'm so sorry." Gibbs said softly, pulling her into him and holding her close, trying to comfort her.
"She promised she wouldn't leave me…" Abby sobbed, completely inconsolable.
"Thank you Doctor, I'll see she gets home safely." Gibbs said, not letting go of her. The doctor nodded and backed out of the room, Abby's wails following him.
