Work Text:

"We are sorry to announce, Knight or Buttercream, who has been missing for a week now, has been found dead in the forest, due to suicide." The announcement was made to the people of the kingdom. Many was shocked, many were sad, so was worried about people close to him.

The announcer continued, "Knight has left a note to be read out to the public." People silenced with bitter anticipation and cruel curiosity.

The announcer clears his throat before continuing, "To whoever may read this, please do not try to save me, it would be useless. I don't know why I wrote this, maybe it's a excuse or explanation or maybe just to let go of some stuff I've been holding back for a while." The crowd murmured about what was said.

"What did he mean by let go? Wasn't he a honest man?" A person from the crowd whispered.

"I'll introduce myself, hello my name is Knight or Buttercream and I've worked for the royal family for five years, since I was fifth-teen. I know that I've been a very secluded person, i knew in the long run that would impact me negatively, but I can't seem to actually stop doing that. It's just part of my personality, but I guess people are going to find out one way or another, so I'll rather tell it myself. I know I don't really need to do this, but I feel like I should so I'll order this chronologically." The murmurs from the crowd stop, listening intensively from a small morbid curiosity. Everyone knew they couldn't leave yet no one would dare too.

"First, I would like to say that I had a great childhood and although I didn't grow up in the best situation, I grew in poverty. Even as a child I saw how my parents struggled to give me a chance at life and I always wanted to repay them." The crowd started to arise with murmurs.

"What a respectable young man," one of the older women mumbled, "he died too young, too soon."

"I could never really repay them enough and I wished I spent more time with them. But to the kindest people seems to get the worse. My Dad died from a heart attack due to his his failing health and my Mom died from cancer.” A few audible gasps came from the crowd, but they quickly quieted down again.

"So my first apology goes to them, I'm sorry for not spending more time with you." The announcer flipped the page.

"After this, as you may know, our kingdom was attacked by the red dragon or Pitaya Dragon. And I went to kill him, but I couldn't. I said I was close, but I was a liar. I lost so much, I lost my arm, I lost my poor horse, I lost nights of sleep due to nightmares. It still haunts me." A feeling of pity and worry spread though the crowd.

"He shouldn't have been sent alone! The royals should have known this, he was lucky to live, lucky I tell you," said a man from the crowd.

"So my second apology goes to you all, for lying since I couldn't do my job." The crowd slienced once more. The announcer cleared his throat before continuing.

"And I have one more thing admit and it might not make so of you quite angry at me. I would be considered a traitor, but I rather come clean about this." The announcer paused as if trying to comprehend what was on the rest of the page.

"While I was in dragon valley, I met a man named Fire spirit. He helped me quite a bit, he even helped me when I lost my arm, without him I would have died. He took a special interest in me and I have a interest in him, but he was a legendary and I was a rare. And relationships like that was looked down upon. I wasn't thinking, I fell madly in love to the point it felt violent." The crowd had mixed reactions, so people left, some was ashamed at the fact that someone as respected as him was do something like that and some was listening intently.

"And so we saw each other often, he would visit me on my window and we would talk about whatever bullshit came up in our minds. I would visit him and his children, for fucks sake, I felt like I had a family. But my family was gone. They were murdered in cold blood." More mixed reactions from the crowd arose.

"They deserve it, something as sinful as that needs to be punished." A older man said.

"Poor boy, he was manipulated to die." A girl agreed.

"If he dated the princess or another knight, this whole situation could have been avoided." Another said.

"Everyone please quiet down," the announcer says, "please refrain from discussion until after the announcement is finished." The announcer simply said. He shook the page and continued,

"They were gone. And I couldn't live with that. My last apology goes to them, for not being there to help. I know many will hate me for this, but at this point I couldn't care anymore. I just want to hold my children and tell them that their ok, I want to kiss my boyfriend, I want something so far away it was painful. No injury, no humiliation, nothing could stop me from loving him. So now I can't find a will to live anymore. I'm sorry to you all, and goodbye. Signed Buttercream."  The crowd dispersed, all talking about the event they had just experienced.

The announcer put the page down on to the table and stepped away. The announcer, Madeline, Knight's brother, left the stage to calm down. Princess was crying onto her mother and Knight's friends were talking and grieving.

And amidst all of this, there was Knight and Fire spirit in the forest, talk about all the bullshit that came up in their minds and making sure that Angel and Devil was playing nice. That all what he wanted to do from the beginning...

Notes:

Fun fact: this was based on my own note and my family’s reaction to it! They found out I was gay and was kinda supportive.
(They were like as long as you don’t do anything illegal, we don’t care who you date)

Have a good day!
