Chapter Text
Alex kept watch until Morgan’s breath slowed down into the rhythm of sleep, and then some, making sure no more nightmares claimed Morgan’s sleep. They gave Morgan a gentle kiss, careful not to wake them back up, before relaxing and allowing themself to relax. Before they fell asleep, they pulled Morgan just a tad bit closer, allowing themself to be selfish, to hold the most important person in their life closer, safer.
They opened their eyes again, looking down at Morgan, their eyes glowing as they allowed more of their power to flow through their veins. Was doing this without Morgan’s consent considered morally good? No. But it wouldn’t be the first time, and it won’t be the last time Alex decided to do something against the morals of a normal person. They took a deep breath before moving their free hand up to Morgan’s forehead, pressing a gentle finger to the villain’s forehead, “I won’t let anyone hurt you again, not even yourself.”
Alex’s finger seemed to glow, and Morgan’s expression twisted, though they remained asleep. They watched as the blackeye adorning the villain’s otherwise perfect face vanished instantly and their love’s face relaxed again, falling deeper asleep, lulled and calmed by the magic currently running through their veins.
When that was done, Alex turned their attention to their phone, glaring at the news articles broadcasting the battle and death of the heroes. Their body seemed to glow as they worked up the courage to release more power than they had used in a long time. Golden light spread from Alex, pulsing across the universe. When Alex took another look at their phone, the articles were gone, along with any evidence of "humanity’s chosen" ever existing.
They looked back down at Morgan who was still sound asleep, “you didn’t deserve that…but this was long overdue…sweet dreams, Morgan.”
Morgan yawned and stretched, bumping into the solid form of their lover, asleep next to them, making the other stir awake, “hmmm, Alex? When did you get home?”
“...Late last night, you were already asleep.”
“Ah,” Morgan stood up, stretching before walking into the bathroom, glancing at themself in the mirror, they grabbed their toothbrush before doing a double take, something in their mind protested against the way they looked, something was…off. They couldn’t shake it, deciding to call in the other, “Alex? Does something look different about me to you?”
Alex walked in, rubbing their eyes, “hmm? Different?”
Alex took a look at Morgan, their eyes widening for a fraction of a second before catching themselves, putting all their focus into keeping their expression normal, “no, of course not. Maybe your skin just looks brighter? You seemed to have gotten some good sleep last night.”
Morgan sighed and looked in the mirror, pulling the bottom of their eyelid down, looking closer at their eyes, “maybe…my eyes just seem…brighter then I remembered?”
Alex gave Morgan a kiss on the cheek, “maybe your mind is just playing tricks on you?”
Morgan seemed to debate with themself before nodding, agreeing with Alex, “you’re probably right.”
Alex straightened up, smiling, “of course I am! Do you remember why I went out last night?”
Morgan gave them a funny look before laughing, “Of course, your nemesis, did you hit your head yesterday?”
Alex tried to keep their face straight, they were sure they erased them from ever existing, they pulled their phone out, searching themself up. They mentally relaxed when they discovered a hero they’d never fought before listed as the hero hunting them down. They looked at Morgan again, giving them a soft smile, “I might have hit my head…when I fell for you.”
“Hey! That’s my line! You can’t use a pickup line I’ve already used!”
Alex smiled, laughing a little, happy to have their carefree partner back. They watched as the d-tier villain left the room, letting out a sigh of relief that everything had worked correctly. The past few days didn’t exist anymore. Morgan was okay. Morgan was safe. Morgan would forever be safe.
