Chapter Text

Prentiss and Rossi arrived back at the station just after the rest of the team had finished setting up their boards, and they had begun trying to make any connections they could with the limited information them had. Luckily the information that they received from the medical examiner would be enough to help start the profile.

“They had no injuries at all?” Morgan asked surprised.

“None at all, they both died of an overdose of medicine that they didn’t need.” Emily provided.

“It seems our unsub thought that they were trying to help these girls.” Rossi added.

“These girls are clearly surrogate’s for someone and finding out who they represent to our unsub could be difficult.” Hotch said as he walked over to the table in the middle of the room and got out his phone to call Garcia, putting it on speaker and placing onto the table for everyone to hear.

“You have reached the Fountain of Knowledge, speak and be heard.” Garcia’s voice filled the room.

“Hey Babygirl, we need you to work your magic for us.” Derek grinned.

“For you, Sweetness, anything. What have you got?” Penelope responded.

“We’re sending you the autopsy report we received from the medical examiner, we need you to look into the medicine’s that these girls were being given. See what they can be used to treat and if possible any young girls who died in the past few months as a result.” Hotch told Garcia.

“On it, Bossman. I will back with the results forthwith, try not to miss me too much, my cherubs, Garcia out!” Garcia ended the call.

“Okay, everyone get to work on the profile with the information we have so far. JJ, you and I are going to interview Rose’s parents, hopefully they might have some information that could help us.” Hotch ordered.

JJ and Hotch headed towards interview room one, preparing themselves to speak to the distraught parents. Mr and Mrs Singh were a sweet looking couple, Mr Singh was a portly looking gentleman with kind looking eyes behind his glasses, Mrs Singh was a short woman with her blonde hair pulled back into scruffy bun at the back of her head. They both looked like they hadn’t slept since their daughter was taken, both looked worn out with red rimmed eyes.

“Hello Mr and Mrs Singh, I’m Agent Jareau and this is Agent Hotchner.” JJ and Hotch shook the hands of both parents as they sat down at the table opposite them, both of the parents greeted them and returned their handshakes.

“We understand that this must be difficult, Agent Jareau and I are both parents ourselves, but we need to ask you some questions about when Rose was taken. Any details you may be able to give us could help us with our case, even any small details that may seem unimportant could make a large difference.” Hotch began the interview, letting the parents know that he and JJ could sympathise with the parents.

Hotch didn’t know how he would react if it was Jack that was taken. Being an FBI agent meant that he knew the statistics of child abductions and what his son would be likely to experience if he was ever taken. He wouldn’t be able to do his job properly whilst being in a frenzy of worry over his missing son, it was moments like these when he truly understood why the higher ups don’t allow agents to work on cases that could be personal to them. You wouldn’t be able to focus on your job leading you to be more likely to make mistakes and cause the case to be improperly handled. This would then lead the team to fail at solving the case and unable to save whoever may be involved. Similarly, JJ didn’t want to imagine being in the same position as these parents, Henry and Michael are her whole world, she couldn’t cope if she lost a part of herself.

“Would you be able to walk us through the moments before Rose was taken?” JJ asked them softly.

Mrs Singh nodded slowly holding back her tears at the reminder, before beginning her story, “We took Rose to the fair ground for the day, it was all she had been talking about all week, some kids from her school had been the at the weekend and had been talking about it in class. Rose became so determined to go,” She hummed a laugh at the sweet memory, “she was so excited to go.” The mother began to cry. “I’m sorry. She was so excited, we-w-w” she began to fumbled her words though her tears.

Mr Singh put his hand on her back, comforting his wife, and continuing to tell them the series of events, “We had been on a few rides and played a few of the games. We let Rose go on the merry-go-round by herself, she insisted, said ‘I’m a big girl now, I can do it by myself.’ so we let her. I mean it was a merry-go-round, not a big roller coaster, what could go wrong, right? She had so much fun, laughing and waving to us each time she passed by. When it ended, it was quite busy and the exit to the ride was on the other side, we got there as quick as we could but there was such a large crowd, people running past and everyone getting off the ride at the same time. When we got to the exit and the crowd cleared sh-she,” Mr Singh became choked up, “My little Rose bud, she was gone.”
