Star Wolf: Insurrection

Summary:

With the loss of their hideout in Sargasso, Star Wolf relocates to Kew, a lawless planet on the outer fringe of Lylat. With no shortage of work, Wolf, Leon, and Panther have never felt more at home.

But when a seemingly routine job leads to them stumbling onto a conspiracy involving the remains of Andross's forces and their mysterious new leader, the three find themselves on the run with a rogue Cornerian agent and having to make some very hard choices that could affect all of Lylat.

Chapter 1: Prologue: On The Run

Chapter Text

Somewhere near the Aparoid Homeworld

They had done it. It had been very difficult, and a couple of members had come within inches of losing their lives. But they had done it. The Star Fox team had defeated the Aparoid Queen, infected her with Beltino Toad's apoptosis program, and brought an end to the menace once and for all.

Wolf O'Donnell ought to have been happy. After all, him and his teammates Leon Powalski and Panther Caruso had played a part in the victory. Truth be told, the grey and white furred lupine had been happy, right up to the point where he'd received a message from Bandera, the simian he always left in charge of the hideout in Sargasso when he was away.

"Lord O'Donnell, they're swarming us!"

"What're you talking about, Bandera? The aparoids are toast."

"It's not aparoids, it's the CDF."

Wolf's breath caught in his throat at that last sentence. As it stood, the team was still outside Lylat. By the time they got back, their hired thugs would have been mopped up. They might have stood a chance if Fox McCloud of Star Fox hadn't shot the place up in search of Pigma Dengar, who Wolf had kicked off the team in the wake of the Lylat War.

Wolf narrowed his violet right eye, his left having been lost in that half-remembered youth on Katina and first covered with a patch. These days, the lupine now had a digital lens that fed him visual data as well as having night and thermal vision.

"Give em hell, Bandera."

The monkey stood at attention, clearly calling on his Venomian Imperial Army training.

"Yes sir."

The transmission ended as Bandera was reaching off camera, presumably for a weapon. Wolf growled and pounded the cockpit of his Wolfen fighter.

"FUCK!!!"

The lupine heard his communicator beeping and promptly reached out and switched it off. He was in absolutely no mood to talk. For the next few minutes, he sat there and fumed.

"Damn you, Pepper." he cursed. "Can't even leave me alone when you're fucking comatose, you old windbag!"

He breathed heavily and imagined the orange and white furred vulpine who was his rival. At the moment, Wolf would have liked nothing more than to wrap his hands around the pup's neck and throttle the life out of him.

"Damn you, Fox. You could have just asked me about Pigma, I'd have probably even been willing to help. But no, you had to do things the hard way."

The lupine took a few breaths and pushed his rage and hatred to the back of his mind. Right now, he needed to figure out just where him and his wingmates were going to hide out now. He flipped his communicator back on and was greeted with the scratchy voice of his second in command.

"Boss, you should see this." said Leon, a green scaled chameleon.

Wolf glanced at his HUD and saw a list of planets in Lylat. He was quite surprised to see that Macbeth, Zoness, and Titania hadn't been affected by the invasion at all. Even so, he ruled them out; there were likely to be Cornerian Defense Force outposts there.

When he said as much to his wingmen, a deep voice responded "The outer fringe seems good, Wolf. Why don't we head for Papetoon?"

That was Panther, who as his name suggested, was a black furred jungle cat.

"I agree with the first part, but Papetoon's a little too chummy with the Cornerians for my tastes."

"How bout Eladard?" put in Leon.

"Too far for these ships."

Wolf brought up an image of a greyish planet.

"It's gonna have to be Kew."

As his teammates responded in the affirmative, Wolf thought on his choice. It was said that one could find three things on Kew: Barfights, murders, and coups. Corneria had barely paid attention to the place before the invasion, and they'd be paying even less attention now. He suddenly gained a toothy grin.

"It could work. No CDF chasing us, no Star Fox meddling in our plans, plenty of jobs. Yes, this is perfect."

Wolf carried that thought with him all the way to the warpgate and his team's eventual destination.
