Chapter Text
After a most productive day in the town, Meng hoped for a relaxing evening at home, perhaps a nice pot of tea with one of the stories she picked up at the market.
What she didn’t expect was for the house to be empty. Normally, it was bustling with activity, the acolytes in and out and constantly tending to things, and the occasional whoosh of little airbenders running about like they didn’t have a care in the world. The sight always brought Meng immense joy, but it also meant that her idea of a quiet evening at home was unlikely.
So it was strange to see her home so… quiet. Was Aang out with the kids? Did they have a field trip planned today that she had forgotten about?
She quietly inspected the house and grounds for any signs of her family, but quickly gave up the pursuit when it was apparent that they weren’t home.
So naturally, Meng took full advantage of the situation and dashed to the bathroom for a relaxing evening to herself.
Bubbles filled the tub and carried a sweet, flowery aroma that caused Meng to let out a satisfying sigh when she submerged herself in the bathtub. With a drink table to her left, she set a pot of tea for herself and picked up a scroll with a new love story.
And it was the perfect evening. No kids yelling at her that they needed her, no flying husband that seemed to be in a hundred places at once, and no flying creatures that popped in and out of rooms like there was nothing to it.
And it was a little… lonely.
Despite the blessed reprieve, Meng craved her family at the end of it. When the stress and tension in her body dissipated after her home spa day, she wanted to run after her little ones and watch them learn new things and for the world to open up to them. She wanted Aang’s arms to wrap around her, for his chin to rest on top of her head while they observed the kids practice their air scooters.
She couldn’t quite believe it, but she wanted the busyness. She wanted the chaos of a loud, rambunctious family.
So after the wonderful day off from being a mother or a wife, and when Aang arrived with their loud kids in tow, Meng gave Aang a long and slow kiss on the lips.
When they parted, he blinked at her, and Meng couldn’t help but giggle at the silly look in his expression. “What was that?” he asked, still confused, but smiling nonetheless.
Meng shrugged her shoulders. “Nothing, I just missed you guys, is all.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah,” she replied with a grin. “Turns out I like my loud, chaotic family.”
Somehow, Aang’s smile became brighter on his face, and he pulled Meng into his arms and twirled her around. “Good, because they missed you a bunch!”
With that, the tow of them laughed until their bellies hurt, and when a familiar crashing sound could be heard from a different room, Aang and Meng raced over to their kids to find out the source of the noise.
But this time, Meng ran playfully after her kids with a smile.
