Work Text:
It had been about seven days since Coral had last seen any sort of sunlight. Their eyes had been adjusted to the pitch-black darkness that took the being’s place every time it left. They doubted that their fearful fiancé would ever come to save them, Evelyn was too scared of confrontation, but there’s also the possibility that Evelyn is dead. Killed by the same being that took their child away from them.
“Good morning, Coral” Combat boots could be heard on wood as Coral’s eyes struggled to see as light flooded into the room. “Habit?” Coral coughed; no words were heard. Coral felt hands grabbing at their chin, tilting it upwards. Suddenly, something wet drops into their eyes, and they blink harshly, flinching harshly backward, nearly flipping the chair backward.
A second pair grabs the chair and stops it from flipping backward. “Calm down” A second voice, very different from the first, Vinny, Coral guesses it’s Vinny’s voice. Their eyes slowly, but eventually adjust to the light and they can finally see Vinny and Habit in front of them.
“There you are” Habit crouches in front of them, “Glad you aren’t totally blind, Evelyn will be glad to finally see you” Vinny cuts the rope that was tying Coral to the chair. Vinny helps the still slightly blind Coral down the stairs and to a living room area. “Coral!” Evelyn runs up to her fiancé, embracing them tightly.
“I’m so sorry for taking so long” Evelyn cupped the sides of Coral’s face. “What do you mean?” Coral’s voice was extremely raspy, coughing immediately after talking. “I had been grieving for Oliver too much to come right away” Evelyn admitted, a have a carefree attitude about it, as if she didn’t even think about the torture her fiancé may endure; not seeing the anger that replaces Coral’s confusion. Coral laughs, a breathy and humorless laugh, pushing themself off of Evelyn and leaned against Vinny.
“Oh, come on, don’t be like this” Evelyn pouted. “Don’t be like what?” Coral’s voice wavered. “You’ve always been stupid, at least you’re pretty” Coral let go and punched her in the face. “Don’t talk to me like that, I get it, losing Oliver is hard, it was hard for me too and now I know I’m linked to the bastard that took my child from us. Don’t even try to push my buttons, I’ll leave you out to die, I don’t care. This stupid iteration is going to cause me to keep going on and on without my, or anyone’s, control” Coral seethed.
Evelyn’s face scrunched up. Tears fell down. But Coral didn’t care. They turned their back on her, removing the ring and throwing it at her, and with the help of Vinny, they climbed the stairs to a guest room that Vinny set up for them.
Vinny watched as one of the last of his best friends laid down on the bed, their body stiff and barely moving from being in the chair for the past five days. Their clothing was absolutely filthy and covered in piss. Vinny closed the door, leaving his friend to themself for the moment.
He walked downstairs seeing Evelyn crying on the couch and couldn’t help the scoff at the leaves his mouth.
“Vin! Please, talk to her!” Evelyn sobs, “Them, Evelyn, them, not her, not him; them” Vinny rolls his eyes at her and walks into the kitchen.
