Whumptober Day 21 - Blood matted hair/bleeding through bandages
The minute Lieutenant Commander Steven McGarrett saw his partner, Detective Danny Williams lying in a pool of his blood, hair matted with him, but reaching for Steve, he lost it. Truth be told, he lost it when he saw the Camaro on fire, thinking "No, not Danny," and going on a violent spree to find him.
Then Daiyu Mei, his nemesis's wife, called and said " I have the person you care about most in the world," and his heart dropped.
She had Danny, who was the most important person in the world to him. The person he loved the most, his heart, and his soul. He went on a rampage, she got Danny because of Doris. To get money Doris had, where Steve didn't care. He just wanted Danny back.
He gets to the house, and Danny manages to kick ass and kills two kidnappers, and then is shot. He helps him to the car, holding him against his chest, praying to whoever to save this one person.
Steve lets go of Danny, and just stands there. His team doesn't know what to do, so he goes to the chapel and prays. He prays and says if you have to take anyone, take him. Not Danny, not the one person who managed to tear down his walls and taught him how to feel again. Not the person who became his best friend, his confidant, the love of his life.
Danny pulls through, and Steve contemplates leaving but then he sees Danny fighting for breath, giddy that Steve was holding his hand. He decides to stay, like he decided to keep Daiyu Mei alive. He brings Danny home, parks him on the couch and mother hens him, just like Danny has done for him.
The blonde detective looks at Steve one day when they are sitting on the beach, sun on them. Despite his adamant rants, Danny loves Hawaii and its people as much as Steve does.
"You looked like you wanted to run," Danny says, eyes closed.
"I wanted to, then I looked at you, and couldn't leave you. I can't leave the most important person in my life," Steve starts, startling his partner. "You were shot because of me, and I can't handle that without seeing you alive every day. That's why I insisted we share the bed."
Blue eyes stare at him, tears forming. "You don't want to leave me?"
"Not if I can't help it. You gave me your liver so I could be around to be nagged and ensure you stayed alive. Can't do that if I leave. I love you," Steve says, leaning forward and taking Danny's hand. They have held hands before, and they are calloused but soft.
"I guess rescuing me pays me back giving you my liver," Danny quips, a slight smile on his life. "I love you too."
"No Danny, I'm in love with you," Steve emphasizes, while Danny smirks.
"Glad you finally figured it out, can I share your bed with you now?" Danny says, tugging Steve to him, and the taller man leans against the chest of his beloved, sighing.
"Yes, please," Steve says, and they go from there. They settled into a romantic relationship, not realizing they truly were a couple before this. Danny starts PT, while Steve goes back to work part time, knowing that Five-0 is what he was meant to do.
He starts taking steps back in the field, knowing he has people to come home to now. One day though, he gets a call from Halawa, saying Daiyu Mei and some of her employees broke out. Steve is frozen, dread filling him. The woman was dead set on making Steve's life miserable, so he grabs his phone and calls Danny.
The blonde could usually take anyone, but he was still recovering from his second gunshot wound in two years. When he doesn't answer, he knows something is wrong. He runs to the bullpen yelling for everyone, so they come running.
"Daiyu Mei escaped and I think she has Danny," Steve says, bringing up Danny's GPS, and it is nowhere near his physical therapist but it's not moving. Danny was still healing, bandages covering his wound, stitches barely healed.
His partner wanted to make sure he would have full range of motion, so he was at his appointment doing small exercises. The team geared up and rolled out to wear the GPS said he was. Thankfully Rachel, Danny's ex wife, had driven him to the appointment, leaving him and would come back when he was done in a couple hours.
What they come to is a warehouse, and Steve wants to make sure that Daiyu Mei will be gone the second he lays eyes on her. It was an old textile factory, and huge. Duke arrives, with his officers, and they fan out, guns drawn and at the ready.
Steve could hear voices in the distance, and motions for Adam, Junior and Lou to go around, while he goes straight in the middle. He comes across a goon, and fires one shot from his handgun, and the guy falls down before the former Seal advances.
What he comes upon breaks his heart. Danny is shirtless, a head wound bleeding profusely and his stitches have popped from hanging in the chains like he was. Daiyu touches him, then cuts into him, drawing more blood.
Steve growls, shoots the others surrounding his partner, and stalks toward Daiyu, who turns around and grins. "I escaped so I could finish what I started," she started, when she gets a gun from her back pocket and someone from the edges shoots her, straight in the forehead.
She falls over, dead, when Steve runs to Danny, tears lodged in his eyes, as he untangles him, getting his legs around his waist, hands putting pressure on the wound he had received a month prior, and unlocks the chains.
"This is Commander Steve McGarrett, I need a paramedic in the southeast quadrants. The victim is Danny Williams, he was already shot and beaten a month ago." he says in his radio, as he grips his partner and lays him on the table.
Paramedics run in, taking vitals and placing him on a gurney. Daiyu Mei died the same way her husband did, with a gunshot wound to her forehead.
"I take care of the investigation, Steve, go be with your man," Lou says, when Steve hands him his gun and sprints after the paramedics. He wasn't going to leave Danny, and hopped into the ambulance, holding his hand while the paramedic worked.
After a briefing with the Governor at Tripler, Steve stared at his bloody hands again. He never likes having blood on his hands, let alone the man you love with your entire being. He walks to the bathroom and scrubs until his skin is red, dark circles apparent under his eyes.
When he returns to the waiting room, his team including Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua are standing there. He tries to keep the tears at bay when Chin steps forward and directs him to the chairs, allowing him to break down.
Despite everything, and barely dating, Steve was going to marry the fuck outta Danny when he was healed. They were already next of kin and power of attorneys for each other, marriage would only mean he could wear a ring showing he was taken.
The doctor comes out, saying they had to go in and repair some internal bleeding, but the gunshot wound was looking good and they replaced the torn stitches and he was gonna stay in the hospital for about a week.
Steve was at Danny's bedside with the exception of going home to eat and shower, returning to sleeping beauty, only to have awake after three days, giddy Steve was there.
Once he is discharged, Danny continues healing, and does paperwork for Five-0 when he gets bored. Danny doesn't think he's going to want to be in the field, when Duke comes over with a job offer to teach new cadets. He was getting stronger every day, but Steve had to admit he had his own limitations, his bones aching and mind always going.
Steve asks Chin if he wants to be a part of Five-0 again, this time as Captain and handling his own off set of the task force. Steve starts training others to take over as leader, as he also got an offer to train, this time active Seals at Pearl.
Despite all the injuries and blood on clothes and hands, Steve and Danny just grew closer and created a home for everyone to come to.
After all, they were all Ohana.
