“Don't cry, snowman, don't you fear the Sun. Who'll carry me without legs to run, honey? Without legs to run, honey.”
Langa had invited Reki to visit his homeland at the end of the year. The day after their arrival, they went to the cemetery to visit the grave of Oliver, Langa's father, and after talking to his dad about a lot of news, they went home. There was a nice lunch waiting for them and after the meal, they lay on a bed while, watching some videos of skateboarding maneuvers together.
"Wow! Look at this, Reki! It's awesome!"
“We have to try this when we get back to Okinawa! I think if I tweak your skateboard, you'll be able to do it perfectly!"
"You can do it too, Reki! You are a very good skater!"
"Hahahaha. I'm not as talented as you, Langa!"
"Stop being modest, okay? Everything I learned was thanks to you!"
Reki got red in the cheeks and said:
"I'm embarrassed when you say these things!"
"It's not necessary! You know it's the truth! Without you, skateboarding wouldn't make any sense! You are the reason why skating is so much fun." Langa glared at him and Reki blushed even more.
"Enough! I can't take your cuteness attacks!" He hid his face with the pillow.
Langa laughed and removed the pillow from his face. The Canadian smoothed the redhead's cheek and said:
"Are you still embarrassed even though I tell you this every day?"
"Well, I'm still getting used to it..." Reki stroked the other's straight hair. “ Whoah! I'm getting sleepy. "
"It must be jet lag! What do you think about us getting some sleep? Then we'll skate around!"
"Nice! That's fine! It's gonna be awesome! However, let's get some rest first."
"Nice!"
Reki snuggled into Langa's arms and they both fell asleep in no time.
“Don't cry, snowman, don't you shed a tear. Who'll hear my secrets if you don't have ears, baby. If you don't have ears, baby”
Sometime later, Reki began to feel uncomfortable. Unlike sunny Okinawa, Canada was quite cold, especially at that time of year, and even with Langa's comfortable body heat around, it was really cold. Reki sat up in bed at once.
"Aaaaah! It's cold!" The boy was shaking a lot and when he looked out the window, he noticed that something was falling from the sky.
The redhead jumped off the bed and when he approached the window glass, his eyes opened a little.
“Oh! What's this?"
He approached the bed and shook his boyfriend from side to side.
"Langa! Langa!"
"Um… what's wrong, Reki?"
"Something is falling from the sky! Look! Look!"
Langa scratched one eye, yawned, and when he finally managed to open his eyes, he said,
"Ah! It's just snow, Reki!"
"Snow?! Is it snow?! Wow!" The redhead turned his attention to the flakes falling from the sky and only then did Langa remember something important.
“Oh! It's the first time you've seen snow, isn't it?!"
"Yes! It is! Dammit, this is so cool! Let's go! Let's go outside! I want to see snow up close!" Reki would leave the room all excited, but Langa stopped him.
"Wait a minute, Reki!"
"What's it?"
“You can't go out like this! It's cold outside! Put on a coat and gloves! Ah, don't forget the cap!"
"Oh, right!" Reki scratched his head and giggled.
After being properly dressed, Reki and Langa finally went outside.
“I want you to know that I'm never leaving. 'Cause I'm Mrs. Snow till death will be freezing. You are my home, my home for all seasons. So come on, let's go”.
"Aaaaah! It's snow! It's real snow! Langa, look! Look at this!" Reki shouted excitedly, while Langa just laughed at his exaggerated excitement.
After catching a few flakes with his hands and then his tongue, Reki began to spin with his arms outstretched as the snow fell. Langa thought the scene was very beautiful and was delighted to see him so happy. He decided to approach and took the redhead by the hand.
"Reki, Do you… want to dance?"
"There is?! To dance?"
"Yes! I think… it would be nice for us to enjoy the first snowflakes! That way, we'll never forget the day you saw snow for the first time!"
Reki was surprised by the invitation but agreed.
"Sure! Let's go! It will be fun!"
"Would you do me the honor of dancing with you?" Langa held out one hand to Reki while keeping the other behind his back. His cheeks were red.
Reki smiled broadly and took his hand.
"Sure! Let's dance, Langa!"
Langa laced his fingers with Reki's while he wrapped his arm around his boyfriend's waist with the other hand. Reki rested his free hand on Langa's shoulder. They began an awkward dance, both trying to synchronize their foot movements until they finally got in tune. As they wheeled through the grass, they were both smiling, as they were enjoying the moment so much. Langa decided to innovate in the dance, tried to take Reki on his lap and walk around, but he didn't have enough strength and before he managed to spin him in the air, they fell on the grass, with the redhead on top of Langa. They laughed and hugged.
“Let's go below zero and hide from the Sun. I love you forever where we'll have some fun. Yes, let's hit the North Pole and live happily. Please, don't cry, no tears now. It's Christmas, baby”.
"Are you all right, Langa?"
"Yes! The grass absorbed the impact! So... I don't think our dance ended very well!"
"Ah! Don't mind it! That was so much fun! I want to visit Canada again someday!"
“If you want, we can do it next year! And again, and again..."
"Sounds like a good idea, Langa! Seeing snowfall by your side every year seems like a wonderful plan!" Reki smiled.
"If I'm by your side, I'm sure it will be amazing!" Langa smiled and they kissed gently.
Langa's mother, who was watching everything from the window, hugged the photo of her deceased husband and murmured:
"Our boy is in love, Oliver! I think he has finally gone back to smiling like before! Isn't that a wonderful Christmas present, darling?"
The grass was already whitish and the cold was increasing, so Reki and Langa decided to do to back indoors. They ended the afternoon with a nice cup of hot chocolate, the warmth of each other's company, and the beautiful sight of the snow falling heavily from the sky.
“My snowman and me. My snowman and me. Baby."
