Work Text:
It was a quiet morning in the bunker when Dean found Cas alone in the kitchen. Cas was shirtless but had his trench coat on over dark blue pajama pants and red flip flops. Meanwhile, Dean was in an overused band t-shirt with tight black shorts. Cas looked more ridiculous than Dean but what caught Dean's attention was how Cas seemed to be fumbling with something in his hands.
He was holding a box of teabags closer to his eyes than necessary, trying to read its label. His face was scrunched up and he was squinting so hard,he actually looked pained. Dean had been studying him from where he was leaning against the door frame with hands over his chest. It would have been normal if this had happened to Dean instead, but it is bad news that it was happening to Cas. But, Dean was not worried at all.
"That's what you got for giving up your angel battery for a loser, sweetheart." Dean broke the silence with a soft smile.
Cas turned to Dean and smiled at him on instinct.
"Dean, you're awake."
Dean pushed himself from the door frame and strutted to Cas, hands immediately slipping under his coat, and wrapping around his waist.
"Good morning, angel."
"Good morning, my righteous man."
God, Dean felt like he was the luckiest human on the planet whenever he realized he woke up to this slice of heaven every day. An angel? Just for him? For the rest of his cursed life? It was a blessing in disguise.
"Be careful, Dean. I'm still holding my precious Earl Grey here. If I don't get to drink my tea today, I will dump your coffee in the trash."
A laugh erupted from Dean. What a way to start the day.
"Really, Cas? That's the first thing you care about in the morning? What about my good morning kiss, hmm?" He could have wiped his happy tears of joy off his face, thinking he gets to have this for the rest of his life. If there were any, that is.
"No good morning kiss for you today, Dean. You were cruel to me last night." Cas' face turned stern.
"Wait, what? What did I do?"
"You stole the blanket all to yourself and I had to knee you in the middle of the night to retrieve it."
Dean blinked in confusion but understood what Cas meant seconds later.
"Well, that explains the back pain. I thought I was getting older."
That softened Cas' grumpy face. He put the tea away on the counter and cradled Dean's angel-kissed face in both of his hands. His smile became broader when Dean melted into the touch and almost closed his eyes.
"But Dean, it is not just that. Apparently, you are getting dick-er too."
"First off, that's definitely not a word. Second, you are not going to let go of this, are you?" Still holding Cas tight, he raised an eyebrow.
Cas draped his arms across Dean's shoulders lessening the gap between them.
"I do think it is a word and no, I will keep bringing this up to annoy you." Cas gave Dean an arrogant smile because he wanted to.
"Asshole. You're lucky you're my asshole."
Cas let out a chuckle and oh god, was that a halo above his head or was Dean so gone on Cas he was starting to see things?
"Anyways, I would have had my tea by now if you hadn't interrupted and distracted me." Cas turned around in Dean's arms to boil some water.
Suddenly, he felt a warm breath over his right ear and then heard Dean whisper, "But it kinda seems like you love the distraction. Don't you?"
Cas bit his lip, trying not to let something out. He was not going to give in, he was trying to ignore Dean but it was a difficult task.
"I'm not so sure about that, Dean. Your attempt to distract me was weak. I mean, look. My tea is almost done."
"Hmm. Looks like I have to work harder, then. I don't mind it at all. I do love a challenge." Dean was not going to lose this.
Things started to get steamy when Dean began to let his hands roam over Cas' naked torso. Cas let out a soft moan because his lover was doing a good job. Dean was going for the kill when they were interrupted with a loud and an annoyed groan.
"Can you guys not contaminate the kitchen? Again? It's where everybody eats, for fuck's sake."
The pair paused their hot session to look at the doorway where they were greeted with a very horrified Sam. Both of his hands were on his hips and his hair was a mess.
Cas was blushing with humiliation and decided to turn back around to hide his face in Dean's chest. Of course, this was not their first time getting caught but he still got embarrassed every time they did.
"Damn it, Sam. Can't you see me and Cas are having a moment here? Give us some privacy!"
Sam scoffed. He couldn't believe this. "You don't have privacy in a kitchen, Dean. That's what bedrooms are for!"
Perhaps, it was time to save Sam from more mental scars. Dean intertwined his fingers with Cas' to drag him along out of the kitchen. Dean stomped away with a huff while Cas gave Sam an apologetic look. The tea was left untouched and cold because they had a hotter thing to start their day with.
This morning was just the beginning for Dean and Cas. There hadn't been any potential cases in the news lately. Dean took it as a chance to take Cas out on yet another date. Cas had once told Dean before that he loved watching humans and he had been doing that since the first humans descended from Eden. Dean remembered that still. Humans were a creation Cas held so dear and would fight for them until his last drop of grace. That was true but the truth Dean believed in was that Cas was in love with only one human. He couldn't help but grin to himself about the selfish thought.
I'm the luckiest son of a bitch.
"What are you smiling at?" Cas asked from the passenger seat of the Impala as Dean drove.
"Nothing. I was just thinking about me driving my baby with my baby by my side." Dean flashed him his iconic flirtatious smile.
Cas couldn’t hold the urge to roll his eyes and wondered what he did wrong, besides trying to play god and almost killing himself, that he ended up falling for this idiot. He was not complaining but it wouldn’t hurt to know.
“So, where are we going, Dean?” Cas asked.
“We are going to one of those romantic places I found on the internet because you and me, baby, what we have is the epitome of romance.” Dean winked.
“You stabbed me when we first met.” Cas deadpanned.
“You know what- I’m- Nevermind.” Dean waved himself off before he continued again. “It didn’t hurt though, right?”
“I was an angel, Dean. Have you forgotten? I didn't even bleed, let alone feel any pain.”
“Of course, I remember that night. You barged into that barn like a badass motherfucker and you were so hot, I questioned my heterosexuality. You were my gay awakening, angel.” Dean wiggled his eyebrows playfully.
That earned a smile from Cas. A lot about humans could be learned from Dean Winchester, the perfect example of one. Experiencing the human emotions as Dean was the luxury Cas was thankful for.
“And we’re here.” Dean announced as soon as he parked the Impala in front of a store.
“Glasses and lenses store?”
“Yeah. And today we are going to pick the dorkiest pair of glasses for you.” Dean was giddy with excitement. He grabbed Cas’ hand and led him into the store.
Minutes later, after trying seven different frames, Cas decided to pick the one Dean thought “brings out his sky blue eyes.” When he looked into a mirror, it turned out Dean was right. The glasses had a sky blue frame and it matched with his eyes.
“You’re beautiful, Cas. And hot. And mine.” Dean said from behind Cas and laughed when Cas blushed. Human emotions, couldn’t complain.
They started their journey to the next destination which got Dean more excited than usual. Cas noticed that but did not suspect anything. Perhaps Dean was just in a good mood. No cases, no blood, no pain, and no worries. That made sense. He knew that the hunter hadn't felt like that for years. He didn't mind watching him like this once in a while. Or every now and then.

"What are you staring at, Castiel?" Dean smirked after he managed to park Baby under the shade of a tree.
Cas didn't even notice that they had stopped. "You look so happy today. It makes me happy too. And I could watch you be like this all day."
"Aww you sap. You fell for me that deep, huh? Man, my charm is so powerful that a literal angel landed right on my lap."
"Shut up, Dean. Let's get going or I'll land right on your lap for real."
Castiel, angel of the lord? How about Castiel, the love of Dean's life.
"Shit, Cas." Dean groaned. "You can't say something like that without thinking of the consequences. I'm a simple man and I'll do anything to get you on my lap."
"Whatever, Dean. Let's get going now." Cas demanded.
Dean was right. It was a romantic place. It was a lake with trees surrounding it and it was just the both of them. The air was fresh, which made Cas take a deep breath. They talked, joked, and laughed like they weren't two of the people who carried the weight of the world on their backs years ago. They did it like they had been happy for a long. People who saw them would never think that one of them was a man damned to hell while the other saved the damned man.
"You are not the only one who is getting old, Dean." Cas said, unconsciously touching his new glasses.
Right now they were relaxing on a bench near the lake. Enjoying each other's comforting presence.
"I know, angel. And I am so happy that I won't be doing it alone. That you'll always be with me." Dean reached for Cas' hand to intertwine their fingers. However, Dean's face started to fall. "You're not starting to regret giving up your grace for me, are you?"
Horrified, Cas almost yelled "No! I mean- of course not, Dean. I sacrificed a lot of things. I went against everything I was destined for. To get to you. To be with you. For you. Even if I hadn't gotten to be with you, I would never have regretted any of it. Because it was my mission after all, to keep you safe." He tightened his hold on Dean's hand, emphasizing his confession.
Dean being Dean, never having written anywhere that he was good with his words, showed Cas his love instead. He cradled Cas' face with both of his hands and pulled him for a sweet and long kiss. One of them slid down to the small of Cas' back as if he wanted to say "I've got you, Cas." which he always did.
After the kiss broke, Cas wrapped his hands around Dean's neck and their foreheads leaned on each other's.
"Please, Dean. Don't ever doubt my love for you again. I promise you, I never regret any time I've spent with you. I am and always have been yours. Past, present, future, and forever. Please tell me I can have you too, Dean."
Moments of silence passed and Cas couldn't help but feel scared. Didn't Dean want him anymore? When his thoughts were racing and tears almost escaped his eyes, something caught his chin and lifted his whole face up. That was when the forest met the ocean. Two places that were often far away from each other yet they met in the eyes.
"You can have me. Of course, you can have me. And you've always had me. Thank you for having me. I will take care of you, Cas. Every day." Yes, words were never Dean's strong suit but luckily his angel could see what he actually meant to say.
Dean pulled Cas into a hug and they stayed like for a few minutes enjoying the silence and the view. Then, Dean straightened up trying to reach something from behind his back pocket.
"Hold on. I actually have something for you." He fished out something from his pocket.
"What is that, Dean?"
"First off, as much as you look hot in them, you need to take them off."
Cas gave Dean a confusion look perfect with the brow lift he always loved.
"Come on, Cas. I assure you, it'll be good. At least I hope it will. Please, just this once."
"Okay." He took them off and squinted a little. Damn, he was adorable. "Now what?"
"Now, can you read this?" Dean handed Cas a card-like paper with something written on it.
Cas squinted again trying to focus to read what was on the paper. Seconds later he realized his attempt was unsuccessful.
"No, Dean. I can't read without my glasses. What does it say?"
"Now, put on your glasses and read it again." Dean beamed at him like an excited child.
Cas put on his glasses and let his eyes get adjusted to the power of the lenses. Now he could see the words more clearly. He read it the first time. His eyes almost fell out of their sockets. He read it again and made sure he didn't mistake it for anything else. It was a short poem. Dean wrote him a poem.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Castiel, my beloved,
Please let me marry you.
Castiel, the former commander of the angel army, could swear he doesn't cry. At least not over some simple poem. Not even the day he was exiled from his own home. But this? He deserved to shed thetears brought forth by what he never knew he was capable of experiencing. Dean made this possible for him.
And Dean was there, one knee on the hard ground with his hands over his heart. Dean asked again, verbally, with his own voice.
"Will you marry me, Castiel?"
Once Dean finished his question Castiel surged towards him and sealed his answer in a passionate kiss. Their lips fit together as they were meant to be and the lake was the sole witness of their union.
When the moment passes, Dean realizes that his back was flat on the ground while Cas was straddling him. From Dean's point of view, he thought he saw Cas' halo again but it was just the sun. Halo or not, Cas was still the light of his life.
"Are you sure you want to marry me, Cas?" Maybe Dean should stop asking stupid questions.
Cas grabbed Dean's shoulders when he finally sat up and answered him "Yes, Dean. I would love to marry you. But you know I still want to be with you even if we don't get married, right?"
"Yes but I wanted to do this. You deserve this, Cas and so much more. I will do anything to show you how much you mean to me. And this is the first thing. I know it's not much. Hell, I don't even have a ring for you." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"About that. I might actually have something for you." Cas braced his hand on Dean's shoulder while he got something out of his front pocket with the other.
He held a ring in before Dean's face. It was black and it had a blue stripe with a hint of white around the middle of the ring. It also looked like it was glowing. He grabbed Dean's left hand and slipped it on his ring finger and gave it a kiss.
"I'm glad I finally got to put this ring on you and I was right. It does suit your hand. What do you think, Dean?" Cas flashed Dean a proud and happy smile.
Dean took a look at the ring. He was speechless. It was beautiful and it reminded him of his angel's eyes. He gasped when saw the ring glow. Something in his mind clicked and then he looked back at Cas.
"What- Cas, is this- Don't tell me this is your grace."
"Yes, my Dean. It is the rest of my grace. I am completely human now. I wanted to grow old with you so I stored the last of my grace in that ring and waited for the day to put it on you. And finally, the day has come!" Cas's smile was too bright. Dean could get blinded by it.
"I- I don't even know what to say. I don't even know if I deserve this. Thank you, Cas. Thank you so much."
And just like that Dean Winchester, the most feared hunter, was reduced to a sobbing mess. His whole face was buried in Cas' chest. Cas wanted to laugh but he held back while he cupped the back of his human's head. Another hand was stroking his back to comfort him. They remained like that until the sobbing subsided.
"Are you done?" Cas looked down at Dean.
Dean smacked his ass in response. "Shut up, asshole. You're the one who made me cry."
Cas stood up first and held out his hand to help Dean up. He immediately gripped Cas' hips and before he said anything Cas cut him off.
"I love you, Dean Winchester."
"I love you too, Castiel Winchester."
One more kiss wouldn't hurt, they're sure.
They walked back to the Impala with their hands held tightly. Today was a good day. Scratch that. It was the best day ever. Dean thought maybe they could mark this day as their day. The day their love won.
When they got in the car, Dean asked "You know what day is today, Cas?"
"Hmm. Oh, it's Thursday."
"And today's date?"
"The 5th of November."
"So, we will celebrate our anniversary on the 5th of November. The same day you confessed your huge crush on me huh?" Dean smirked.
"Yes, Dean. The day we found out we belong to each other. Now, take us home."
"Yeah, let's go home, angel."
He ignited the engine and it rumbled to life. Dean, with his baby, drove his baby home.
