“You’re not doing it,” Geonhak said, his voice stern.
Dongju could feel anger bubble up inside of him.
“I’m a member of Oneus, too, and I’m GOING to perform!”
After the excitement of finding out that Dongju was pregnant with not one, but two babies, the threat of the impending 10th anniversary concert was looming. The members of Oneus had been planning this concert for years, constantly adding bigger and better music and staging. And Dongju knew he deserved to be there.
“I’ll be fine!” Dongju complained. “People perform while pregnant all the time. I’ll be only four months.”
“I know your body is yours,” Geonhak said gently. “But now you have two more bodies to worry about. What if you fall or pass out? I don’t want anything to happen to you or the twins.”
Dongju sighed. Geonhak made a good point, but it just didn’t seem fair.
“You can say all that because you’re not the one that’s carrying these babies,” Dongju retorted, clutching his slightly distended stomach. “I’ll be okay. The doctor said I’ll be okay. And the babies will be okay, too. I’ll just sit the whole time if I have to.”
Geonhak knew he was fighting a losing battle.
“I just care about you and our kids so fucking much, okay?” He shot back. “I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to any of you...”
Geonhak was not one to show much emotion, and almost never cried, but he felt like he was on the verge of tears. He lowered his head, avoiding eye contact with his husband. Dongju himself was crying. Out of both frustration and sadness. This concert meant too much to him and to the fans. He couldn’t just drop out. And Geonhak knew that, as much as he didn’t want to admit it.
Dongju got up and approached his husband, who was sitting down at the other side of the room. He could hear Geonhak sobbing lightly, hiding his face in embarrassment. Dongju placed a small peck in the top of his husband’s head, before carefully grabbing Geonhak’s hands and placing them on either side of his belly. Being only about ten weeks along, Dongju didn’t have a super noticeable bump, but it was very much there and could be easily felt.
Geonhak softly rubbed the sides of Dongju’s belly for a few moments, before pulling him close and hugging his torso. He nuzzled his husband’s belly with his face, quietly crying while Dongju played with his hair.
“We’re going to be okay,” Dongju said, his voice low. “I’ll do as little dancing as I can, and take a bunch of breaks. I’ll probably even sit out for most of the rehearsals. I just really want to be at the concert for all of us.”
Geonhak nodded, although he still felt a bit uneasy. But he trusted Dongju, and trusted the other members of Oneus and the staff to take care of him.
“I understand.” Geonhak said finally, pulling away from Dongju and wiping his eyes. “We’ll start with today. You can go to rehearsal but I’ll make sure to keep an eye on you. Any sign of exhaustion and you’re taking a break. Is that okay?”
Dongju nodded, finally being able to smile.
“That’s fine,” he replied as Geonhak stood up. “But can we get a quick bite before we go? I’m really craving cheese for some reason. But that fancy kind that smells weird. We’ll probably have to go to the grocery store or something.”
Geonhak laughed, feeling his stress fade away.
“Yes, your highness,” he joked, putting his arms around Dongju. “Whatever the babies want they’ll get. And that includes you.”
Dongju laughed, and returned his husband’s hug.
