Chapter 9: 1. But if you were… 100. I have a hundred wishes, but this one was the only one that came true.

Chapter Text

“I wanna talk to you.” Angie nearly burst into the office and Pablo looked up immediately a bit confused by the outburst. Angie seemed to realize she might have made her entrance, way too abrupt. So, shrugging a bit more calm she made her way into the office and closed the door behind her. “It’s important.”

Pablo looked at her for a second trying to figure what was going on, but her expression told him nothing. Well, it told him she was deeply worried, also excited, and maybe scared, but it made nonsense. He was worried for not being able to tell what was happening to his wife, but at least she had come to speak to him. Getting back to reality he shook his head to clear the thoughts on his mind and pay attention to her.

“Yes! Yes, of course, love. What’s up?” He put down the papers that were on his hands and offered her to sit, but she realized he was working.

“Oh! I see you’re busy, never mind, I…” She tried to run, but he was fast to speak stopping her to even touch the handle of the door.

“I’m not. It’s fine, you can tell me, this is nothing important.” Angie opened her mouth lightly and closed it again looking the other way, debating whether to speak or leave. “My angel?” Angie looked back at him, opened her mouth, and then bite her lip refusing to say anything once again. He was getting deeply confused.

“I have something really important to tell you, but I don’t know how to.” She explained and Pablo just leaned on his chair nodding. She finally sat down in front of him.

“Well, I guess you can start from the start”. He tried to joke, but she took it seriously leaving him more confused.

“Yeah, but I don’t not how… Well, I do, but… Why does this have to be so difficult?” Pablo kept quiet trying not to pressure her. “If it’s difficult to say how is it gonna be to live it?” She was really stressed, he could see her biting her lip, and that kind of worried him.

“It’s fine, take a deep breath. Come here.” Angie got up and went to Pablo, who made some room for her to sit at the edge of his desk. “Is it something bad?” Angie looked aside pursing her lips in a thinking expression and gave vague responses debating if it was or if it wasn’t. “Okay, relative, I get it. Is it something that has to do with Vilu?” She thought of it for a second but ended up shaking her head. “All right. Does it have to do with me? Did I do something wrong?” She shook her head repeatedly, he didn’t do anything wrong. Not really. “Fine. And you? Does it have to do with you? Are you okay?” He tried to catch her gaze, but now she was evading it. “Angie if we are going to play this you have to look at me, I can’t try to understand what you mean if I can’t see your eyes.” His tone wasn’t mad, was more incredulous. He didn’t understand what was happening at all. An idea crossed his mind.

“I’m late.” She spoke and he looked at her confused.

“Late? Angie, no. You’re staying here until you tell me what’s going on, so if you want to speed this up you just…” Angie was about to break character at how clueless he could be. It had been fun to act all worried, but now she needed to be serious. The bad part was that now she did was getting kind of nervous.

“No, Pablo. You don’t get it. I’m late.” He still didn’t get it.

“Late to where? It’s midday, everyone’s eating.” Angie shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose trying not to laugh. Pablo tried to think about it any other way. “Wait, I would say you’re trying to tell me you’re… But if you were…” He shook his head, he knew that was a delicate subject, but Angie mumbled something. “What? My love, you’re speaking real quiet. I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

“That I am, Pablo.” Pablo gaped and put his hand on her cheek asking her to look at him.

“You’re what?” He needed to be sure, he wanted to be sure he heard that right.

“Pablo, I am pregnant.” He got up to hug her and she almost fell victim of his enthusiasm. “Hey, easy!”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” He held her by the arms looking for any injury and Angie chuckled lightly.

“Me or them?” She gave him that dreamy smile and he felt his soul blossom.

“Both.” He felt like he could breathe again when she simply shook her head with that relief in her eyes. “Oh my god, I can’t believe it.” He hugged her tight once again and smiled feeling complete by holding her so close.

“Neither can I.” Pablo let go of her and he simply leaned on his desk, looking at her with tiny tears forming in his eyes. “Hey! What’s wrong? What happens?”

“Nothing is wrong, I just…” He looked down and then took a deep breath rubbing the tears off his face with the back of his hand. “I have a hundred wishes, but this one was the only one that came true.” She looked interrogative towards him and Pablo laugh a little at her confused expression.

“Having kids with me?” She asked trying to understand the phrasing, but Pablo shook his head.

“Having a family with you. A cat, a dog, a fish, just us, Vilu… Everything. Since the moment I’ve met you, all I’ve wanted is to be the man you love and I never thought it would be possible. Every day since I’ve married you it has felt like… Heaven, grace, like a dream, and this just makes it seem more like it.” Angie felt her heart flutter and came closer to peck at his lips. “I’m sorry if I’m not making a lot of sense. I’m just so happy.”

“So am I.” She hugged him once more and left a kiss on the side of his head.

They were together, and they were happy.
