Work Text:
It's late into Friday evening as Bakugou turns in for the night. He crawls into his bed after turning off his lap, burying himself under his comforter.
As he rolls onto his side facing the wall, and closes his eyes, Bakugou hears a faint sound coming through his wall. He was sure the redhead had already fallen asleep, so what was he hearing?
The blonde scoots closer to the wall and his heart instantly clenches in his chest. He can hear soft muffled sobs coming from his friends room.
Without hesitation, Bakugou jumped out of his bed, not bothering to grab a shirt and marched straight out of his room and over to Kirishima's. He knew the redhead never locked his door, so he walked straight in, closing it behind him.
He watched the redhead jolt upright, frantically wiping at his face to hide the fact he had been crying.
"B-Bakubro, what're you doing?"
Bakugou said nothing, only made his way to his friend's bed and sat down in front of him. He was never good with words, he never knew how to say the right things to make others feel better. But he was good with actions, after all actions always spoke louder than words.
The blonde leaned forward, closing the distance between them and wrapped his arms around Kirishima's shoulders. He pulled him close, and Kirishima slowly moved his arms to hang loosely around the blonde's waist.
Bakugou said nothing as fresh tears soaked his chest, he just held his friend a little tighter. Just hoping Kirishima knew he was saying it was okay, that he was here for him.
They have always been close, since first year. Nothing out of the ordinary for the two of them to be seen draped over the other. It's what they did, it was /their/ friendship. Bakugou was only like this with the redhead, he always felt relaxed, always able to just be himself when they were together. He appreciated what he had with Kirishima. Regardless of his feelings that he's buried deep, /deep/ down, he valued their connection more than anything.
All smiles and sunshine, that's who Kirishima was. The one to always brighten his and everyone else's day.
So to see him like this...hurt. What could've possibly gone wrong to have the redhead hiding away in his room, crying alone into his bed? /Who/ in their right mind would dare to even say something remotely offhanded to the literal ray of sunshine?
Bakugou didn't know /who/ or /what/ upset him, but he was gonna find out and make sure who or whatever it was, would never upset Kirishima again.
"Wanna talk about it?" Bakugou whispered, letting his fingers trail soft soothing circles against the redhead's back.
Kirishima shook his head, trying to sniffle back his tears.
"I'm no expert here, Ei, but I've heard when people talk about what's bothering them, they usually feel better afterwards."
"I-it's stupid."
"Tch, don't give me that shit. It's not /stupid/ and...well, I don't like seeing you like this, so spill or ima go harass everyone of these damn idiotic extras until I find out what the hell has you so upset."
"No, no. I won't let you," Kirishima said, tightening his arms around Bakugou. "It's really stupid man. Just a stupid comment had me over thinking is all."
"If you think it's so stupid, lemme hear and I'll tell ya if it is or not," the blonde pulled back to look into tear stained cheeks, eyes brimmed red from crying.
"I'd really rather not cry anymore today."
"The hell, Ei? You think /I'm/ gonna make you cry? The fuck would I do that for?" His eyes widened at the assumption.
"No, just...C'mon, I don't wanna do this now. I'd rather not lose my best friend," the redhead released Bakugou and pulled his knees up to his chest, resting his chin against them.
"I'm not going anywhere, shitty hair, so get that outta your head."
"You say that, but I also don't want you storming off to pick a fight either."
Okay, so it was /someone/ that upset him. That had his blood boiling already and he didn't even know who it was yet.
"Tell me, dammit. Who the hell said something that got you so upset?"
"Ugh, during free period class 3B had joined our class and everyone was talking about dating or whatever, and /someone/ had brought up you. They said whoever wanted to date you was either crazy or too stupid because you have such a shitty temper and are too stuck up to be around, like who would ever date a /butt/hole like you."
"First off, why the /hell/ are you letting something like that bother you? I don't care, they can say what they want. And second, /who/ the fuck said it?" Okay, maybe it did bother him cause fuck some annoying extra thinking he's to stuck up to be a good boyfriend.
"That wasn't it. When I walked away, I heard him say that /I/ would be crazy stupid idiot that would even try to date you."
"Tell me right the fuck now before the schools gonna have to rebuild shitty 3B's dorm. I swear to…" Bakugou paused, letting the words sink in.
Kirishima had looked away from him when he spoke.
"Ok, rewind. What the fuck has you upset? Aside from them saying you're a stupid idiot. You need to explain this to me, Ei cause I'm lost as shit right now."
"Like I said it's stupid, dude. Don't worry about it."
"/Eijiro/!...tell me, please?" Bakugou scooted closer to him, letting his legs wrap around the redhead's side. "Is it...is it because they said you would be the one to date me? Don't listen to them, whoever gets to be with you, would be...they would be the luckiest damn person. And screw them for even thinking you'd settle for someone like me, you're a fucking delight and deserve the best. You're not crazy or stupid either, Ei."
"I was upset because it's true."
"W-what?" Bakugou recoiled back at the words, pulling himself completely away from the redhead.
So Kirishima thinks he's too shitty to date too? He never expected that, and he can't deny that hurt, like taking a hit straight to the gut.
"Well, shit, alright then. I didn't think trying to comfort my best friend would turn into labeling me as the world's shittiest person to date, but okay, thanks for letting me know."
Kirishima just sat there, eyes wide, his brows scrunched in confusion.
"Wait, what? That's not at /all/ what I was saying," the redhead spat out, "I never said you were the world's shittiest person to date."
"You just said it was true, so explain to me what you meant or I'll just leave you alone."
"It's true cause I /am/ the crazy stupid guy that wants to date you. I'm crazy for you, I'm stupid for never having the guts to tell you after almost 3 years. I'm upset because you don't deserve to be labeled like that, and his comment just made me think of how much shit they would talk about you if I ever got the nerve to ask you out."
"...Ei, you want to /date me/? Do you mean that?" The blonde eased back up to Kirishima, shaky hands reaching out to cup his face. "Just tell me you mean that, that you're not just saying it over that assholes big mouth."
"I really mean it. I've been in love wi…"
His words cut short as Bakugou closed to space between them, melding their lips together in a soft kiss. Lips slowly rubbing together, the gentle flick of their tongues against one another.
"I've wanted to do that for so long," Bakugou whispered against his lips, "Me too, Ei. I've been crazy about you, I've wanted to call you mine since I first saw you. Fuck what anyone thinks, I'll be the best fucking boyfriend they've ever seen."
Kirishima smiled for the first time since Bakugou barged into his room and it melted Bakugou's heart. As long as his redhead was happy, all was right in the world.
Or would be once he found out who the hell was running their mouths about him.
"On one condition and I promise I won't hurt him. Tell me who."
Kirishima bit his lip nervously, "Promise?"
"If it means we're together, yeah I promise."
The next morning, Bakugou walked hand in hand with Kirishima to their first class. As they rounded the corner to their hallway, a group of students were gathered in front of their classroom door.
"Wonder what's going on, we ain't expecting a guest speaker today are we?" Kirishima asked.
"Nah, not that I know of," Bakugou answered, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
The two of them entered the room and saw a couple girls gathered around one of their classmates' desks.
"Hey guys, what's going...dude, what happened to your hair!?"Kirishima asked as pale blue eyes peered up at him from his desk.
"As if I know. When I woke this morning I found my bangs left in tatters, I'd rather not even show my face until they grow back," the blonde sighed. His normally long bangs now nonexistant, his hair line completely uneven all the way across. "Kendo is going to at least make them even for me, god help the poor soul if I ever find out who did it."
"Tch, suits you. Matches your shitty personality," Bakugou snickered, pulling Kirishima close.
Kirishima's eyes grew big, "You didn't?" He whispered and the blonde nodded, "I only told you Monoma said it because you promised."
"I promised I wouldn't /hurt/ him and I kept my promise."
"Remind me to never piss you off," Kirishima rolled his eyes, smiling softly down at Bakugou.
"Was it you?" Monoma asked, staring directly at Kirishima, "Did you do this?"
"/He/ didn't do shit," Bakugou said before Kirishima could respond, "I did. Next time you wanna call someone a stupid idiot look in the damn mirror. No one calls /my/ boyfriend stupid, or anything for that matter. You're lucky I didn't shave you bald. So if I were you, I'd watch what the hell I said from now on."
The other blonde could only gape back at Bakugou, as Kirishima pulled him away to go to their seats.
"You're crazy you know that?"
"Crazy about you, shitty hair, and you still love me, so I see no issues," the blonde smirked, pulling Kirishima down by the front of his shirt to press their lips together.
"I do, I really, really do."
