Chapter Text
“You and Carina doing anything fun this weekend?” Andy asked her friend as they sat down in the beanery.
“We have planned to not leave our apartment for 48 hours; it is going to be great. It’s our first weekend we both have off in about a month, so we’re looking forward to it.”
“Good for you guys, you deserve it. I bet Carina is thrilled, she’s gotta be tired too.” Andy added as Maya smiled, thinking about her wife.
“She has been tired lately, I know she’s carrying our child and I can’t imagine doing that and working a full-time stressful job where she’s on her feet all the time. She is absolutely glowing though. I know she doesn’t think she is, but man alive. She’s stunning.” Maya rambled, blushing slightly once she realized what all she had said.
The two continued to chat for a few minutes before they were called out to fire for the next 2 hours. Once they had all cleaned up, Andy walked into Maya’s office to run something by her.
“Cap, quick question. Whoa, who did you fight? Are you okay?” Andy asked suddenly, walking up to her friend quickly, tugging slightly at Maya’s shirt collar.
“What are you talking about, Andy?” Maya asked, instantly on high alert as she stood up straighter and reached for her neck.
“You have fingermark bruises on your neck, Mai. Who grabbed you?” Andy asked, sharper as she watched Maya’s face desk and scan the table.
“Where is my phone? Andy, where is my phone?” Maya asked, completely in a panic at this point.
“Here, it’s here.” Andy said as she grabbed it out of Maya’s back pocket when the blonde turned around.
The Captain grabbed it blindly, hitting a few quick buttons before putting it up to her ear.
“Carina, come on. Answer, please.” She muttered as the phone kept ringing and then clicked to voicemail. “Carina, please call me back. Please be okay, I just found out about these bruises on your neck. Please let me know that you’re okay. I love you.” The blonde stuttered out.
“Maya.” Andy gasped lowly as the blonde hung up the phone.
“You’re in charge, I’m going to the hospital.” She said, rushing out of the office to her car.
The Captain looked into the rearview mirror and saw the bruises on her neck in the shape of a large hand and picked up her phone again.
“I’m going to be sick.” She muttered to herself.
“Hello?”
“Jo! It’s Maya, are you at the hospital? Where is Carina?” She spewed out in a panic as she left the station parking lot.
“Hey, yes I’m with her right now, she’s okay.” Jo said quickly as she made eyes at Carina’s bathroom, where the brunette was currently.
“She’s okay?” Maya breathed out. “She really is okay?”
“She is, I promise. Come to her office, we’re here and I’m just checking everything out. She’s just in the bathroom right now.”
“Okay, thanks Jo.”
Less than 5 minutes later, Maya was running towards Carina’s office, slowing down only once she got to the doctor’s office door.
“Carina?” The blonde asked, slightly out of breath. “What happened?” She asked as she rushed to the brunette.
“Bambina.” She said softly, looking up at her favorite blue eyes. “I’m okay.” She whispered, breathing out shakily.
“Are you sure? Who the hell did this to you?” Maya asked, caressing her wife’s neck that had bruises splotched over it.
“It was an unhinged guy down in ER. Carina was doing a consult on a pregnant woman and this woman’s husband showed up and he was drunk and apparently has been beating his wife and Carina wouldn’t let him see her.” Jo answered as Carina looked down at the ground, taking a deep breath.
“Baby.” Maya whispered as she stroked her wife’s cheek. “You did the right thing, I’m just sorry that he hurt you. Did he get you anywhere else?”
“I’m just a little shaken up still, but I’m glad I protected that woman. And no, he grabbed my neck and pushed me up against the wall and by then, the security guard had him tackled on the ground.” The brunette said, her eyes starting to clear up some.
“And you got checked out? You’re okay, and the baby is okay?” The firefighter asked once more, just needing to hear it again.
“Everything has been checked out and looks good, but how about I go grab an ultrasound and bring it back here and we can look at the baby while you’re both here?” Wilson said as Carina and Maya nodded.
“I need about 5 minutes alone with this man.” Maya stated lowly as she continued to rub Carina’s thighs as she was crouched on the ground in front of her wife.
“After we see the bambina, can we please go home?” Carina asked softly, leaning forward further into Maya to rest her forehead on the Captain’s shoulder.
“Anything you want, babe.” The Captain kissed her wife’s forehead before slowly standing up when Jo walked back in, wheeling an ultrasound.
“Let’s check on this little lady again, shall we?” Jo asked happily, trying to bring up the mood.
“Thanks, Jo.” Carina said softly as she grabbed Maya’s hand and shifted in her chair, leaning back slightly and lifting her scrub top up with one hand, Maya squeezing the other.
Less than 30 seconds later, the baby’s heartbeat was whooshing through the room, everyone sighing in relief even though Jo and Carina had looked at the baby not that long ago.
“She looks okay?” Maya asked, squeezing Carina’s hand, leaning forward to place a kiss to the top of Carina’s head.
“She’s perfect.” Jo and Carina said at the same time.
“Good. Good. I’m so glad you’re both okay. Do you want to go home now, love?” The shorter woman asked, rubbing her wife’s back.
“Yes. Let’s go home.”
An hour later found them settling into bed to relax, both of them having showered together, the firefighter having washed both of them and dressed them both in comfy clothes.
“Can I get you anything? Do you hurt anywhere? I can get you a hot compress or something.” Maya asked as they laid in bed facing each other, tucking Carina’s hair behind her ear.
“I’m okay, I just need you, bambina.” The Italian whispered before she shot her wife a small grin.
“You have me, I’m not going anywhere.”
“Thank you. I’m sorry I didn’t call right when it happened, I-“ Carina started out before Maya cut her off gently.
“Do not worry about it, you were busy taking care of yourself and our little girl. As long as you two are good, I’m good.” The blue-eyed woman stated firmly, rubbing her hand up Carina’s arm gently.
“I love you, bambina.” The brunette said, her lower lip wobbling, causing Maya to softly place a finger on her bottom lip.
“I love you both so much.”
