Shayera wasn't sure what to make of Vergil. He was an enigma and had this mysterious aura about him. He was different from John. John was a soldier while Vergil was a samurai in nature. At least what she had understood based on her research during her five year stay on Earth and her interactions with him despite his lack of social skills. He offered her a place to heal her wounds following her resignation from the Justice League after the Thangarian occupation, both physical and mental wounds that had appeared following her betrayal of both her homes.
She declined, though grateful for the offer. He wasn't asking and who was she to deny a place to stay? She was tired of moving from one place to another looking over her shoulder.
As for Vergil, Shayera enticed him from the moment he met her. That he knew for sure. But he wasn't sure what to make of his infatuations with the Thangarian because he had very limited experience in that department. The Thanagarian exile had this fire that his mother once possessed. Eva may have been the most kindest woman he'd known but she was also strict whenever Vergil conducted his childish antics. He knew who she was already when they first met. It was a month after the Thanagarian Occupation. Nero was held captive by the Thangarians and tortured before Vergil himself broke into the prison and freed him when Dante told him about his son's imprisonment and killed the guards. He, his brother, his son and Trish met up at the DMC shop building and set up a fortress to protect themselves and banished the Thangarians out of Redgrave. It was their city to protect, not the Invaders.
He'd had a half mind of ending her right there and then but she reminded himself about where he was not long ago when he separated himself with the Yamato to restore his health so he took her in and gave her a home for the time being.

Hell
"It's beautiful." Shayera (Shayera Hol: The Repentant Thanagarian) commented in seeing the structure of Hell as she was sitting next to him.
"Yes. Despite the wretched stench that exists in this realm, the underworld has a very few redeeming qualities." Vergil (Vergil: The Atoning Sparda) replied.
Shayera glanced at the ever stoic Son of Sparda. "Why did you invite me here? Not that I'm grateful for your hospitality. But why? After everything I've done?"
"Because I understand what it's like to betray your loved ones for the sake of your cause." Vergil replied. She looked down in shame, the wounds was still fresh from her betrayal. "My relationship with Dante was hostile at best following the death of our mother. He rejected his demon side while I fully embraced it. I forsook my humanity in search of more power because I considered it inferior and in doing so, I alienated myself from the only remaining family I have left."
She didn't know why but she found herself curious of learning about Vergil's descendent to madness. "What changed?"
"Nero. My son."

As time went on, a bond between the two exiles was formed. They both related to each other in how they had to grow up quickly in a harsh and cruel world.
"I don't see the point of this." Shayera grunted as they clashed their respective weapons with each other in a sparring session. The tempo was quick and swift.
"In combat, our true selves is revealed." Vergil told her.
"Really, what does our little sparring tell you, Dr. Phil?" Shayera said a bit strained, avoiding the swipe of the Yamato.
"You have pent up anger, regret, remorse guilt." Vergil noted. "I should know. I carried those same emotions while coming to my terms of the actions committed by my other half Urizen as well as my obsession of absolute power."
"Well, cookie for you." She quipped sarcastically ducking her head under a slash of the katana. "But you're right though. I got a lot to regret. For the deception, betrayal and everything that I lost since my resignation from the Justice League. My rank as the high ranking commander of the Thanagarian fleet, my home that I cannot return to and how I stabbed my former friends in the back, especially what I did to John."
"The road to penance is paved with hinderances, Shayera." Vergil said knowingly. "It is never easy."
They continued sparring, the sounds of metal clashing with metal echoed loudly through Hell.

But unfortunately for the two of them, All things must come to an end. She had to get back to the surface, she'd spent enough time down there and in that time, she'd learned to come to terms with her regretful actions.
"Are you certain that you must head back?"
"No but all I know is that I can't hide any more." Shayera admitted. "I got to set things right."
"You are aware that the public will have a very unkind opinion when you resurface." Vergil told her.
"Maybe." Shayera acknowledged. "And most of the opinions will probably be deserved. But I'm determined to make up for the mistakes I made, no matter how long it takes."
And with that, Vergil opened up a portal for her. Before she went through, Shayera kissed him on the cheek as a way of thanking him for the hospitality. Vergil was a bit stunned by the show of affection. "Thank you Vergil."

Redgrave City.
They met again a few months later when Vergil stumbled through the ruins of his old family home, nursing a wound on his chest. It was almost reminiscent of his time as Mundus's prisoner although it wasn't as life threatening. He'd fought a demon that sprouted hallucinogenic drugs from its veins in the city, giving them vivid hallucinations and unfortunately he was experiencing what may have been his mother's last moments of life.
He could hear the panicked cries of her voice while she looked all over for him inside his head. "Vergil! Where are you, Vergil!" Then he heard her screams of terrors as she was slaughtered by the demons that invaded their family home under the orders of Mundus.
Then the voice shifted into a rather familiar voice of the present time. "Vergil! What happened?"
Still dazed, Vergil didn't see Shayera who had seen him in his weakened state while she flew over the family home but instead he envisioned his mother in her place with the kind eyes that she always had when she attended his wounds. "Mother?"
"We have to get you home." She made a split decision, taking him home to his brother's P.I Firm and made sure that he was being taken care of before she left.

A week later.
"Was it necessary?"
Shayera rolled her eyes at the scolding from Vergil. They met each other again in a warehouse when he overheard the familiar sound of bones breaking into pieces. He entered and saw Shayera bashing some criminal skulls in. "Not really. But I had to do something. These guys were smuggling cocaine out of Columbia."
"Was that what I saw?" Vergil tsked in disappointment like a father scolding his child. "Foolish woman."
Shayera scoffed as the two looked at each other, neither of them comfortable of their respective presences despite Vergil easily towering over Shayera. "I never thanked you for bringing me to Dante's home that night."
"You thought that I was your mother." Shayera noted, raising an eyebrow. Vergil stood tall, looking at the former Lieutenant of the Thangarian Army with a stoic look. "A demon that I fought against injected me with a hallucinogenic drug from its claws that is fatal to most humans. Where you found me, is where she died, looking for me."
Her eyes softened slightly. "I envy you. I don't even remember my own. She died when I was an infant."
For the past few months since she came back, Vergil was always on the back of her mind. She'd wondered on occasion if he'd ever mended fences with his son although based on his recollection, it seems unlikely.
"How was your return to this realm?" Vergil asked her, changing the subject.
Shayera simply shrugged. "About you'd expect, the public were hateful, fearful and judgmental all at once but that wasn't what upset me. It was something else."
She told him about a previous mission where she ran into some of her old former Thanagarian comrades that revealed to her after they were banished back to Thanagar, The Gordonians had all but destroyed their primary defenses so her estranged husband Hro Talak sacrificed himself to give the Thanagarian fleet enough time to regain their foothold but it wasn't enough and in the end, the Gordonians had established the dominion over her home planet.
A tear escaped Shayera's eyes, running down the cheek when she was finished with the recap. Vergil brushed it off with his thumb displaying compassion, an emotion he doesn't show very often, if at all. "Now I'm completely alone. Several light years alway from a home I cannot go back to. And if I do return, It's unrecognizable. Add to fact I'm stuck on a planet that hates me for the role I played in the Thangarian occupation. I'm bang out of luck."
She huffed, looking up to the heavens. "Is there even such a thing as a lucky break in the universe?" Shayera mused, hugging herself.
"Perhaps not. For people like us." Vergil said lifting her chin up with his index finger, causing her to look at him in the eyes.
And for the first time in almost two years, Shayera gave in to her desires that had been building up since her stay in Hell as she pressed her lips into his, tip toping while Vergil surprised at the first, replied in kind as he deepened the lost. His heart that had been cold for a very long time had thawed slightly.

A Week Later.
Space
Watchtower
"Girl, you look absolutely fabulous." Mari McCabe aka Vixen (Mari McCabe: The Wild Diva.) marveled at the outfit Shayera wore as the Thangarian native took her time to fix herself inside her quarter at the Space Station where the Justice League operated. She wore a pink knee length dress with silver heels. Her red hair flowing down her back.
"Thanks, Mari. I appreciate the compliment." She replied, placing her diamond earrings on her ears. "I'm off to a date tonight."
The Fashion Designer perked an eyebrow in surprise. "Really? who's the lucky man?"
"It would be me."
Mari turned around and let out an impressive whistle when she eyed the arrival. It was Vergil waiting patiently at the doorway. He was a perfect 10. Much handsomer then John if she say so herself. "My, my. You have good taste."
XXXX
Dante (Dante: The Legendary Devil Hunter) was eating his pizza when he had his jaw dropped to the floor of seeing his brother being teleported with a woman holding his arm back to Earth. Now Vergil's getting lucky? Is there no such thing as Justice in this world?! "Unbelievable."
