Work Text:
The Vision Hunt Decree is over. The war has ceased.
And Kaedehara Kazuha, who took part in the opposing side of the Almighty Shogun and has witnessed it come to an end, now stands before an all too familiar cedar entrance with a pounding heart.
Anticipation gnaws at him as he reaches out a hand to knock. However, he halts midway as thoughts and what ifs begin to swirl in his mind. Then he hears a voice (a shout rather) from the other side, and his heart leaps.
It's either now or never again, he thinks to himself, as he swallows his hesitation and finally knocks.
“Coming!” he hears and he waits, fidgeting in his spot.
Kazuha is not one to be anxious. The last time he had been was probably the time when the Electro Archon had first declared the Vision Hunt Decree. However, today is different. He's meeting with an old friend. Or were they lovers separated by fate?
He hears footsteps nearing, he sees the door opening. Then he sees you and his breath hitches.
You were staring at him, wide eyed and holding a cat in your arm. It's morning and you seem like you had just woken up not long ago, but that doesn't stop Kazuha from thinking of how beautiful you look.
“Good day,” he greets and says your name. You only blink and he mistakes your surprise and lack of response for something else. “Oh. Was coming to see you today a terrible time? I can come back another time if you wish me to—”
You shake your head, putting your cat down first and telling him to come in. And he does, the nerves he had earlier dissipating as he smiles softly.
“I didn't know you'd come back to Inazuma today!” you say as you lead him towards your living room. “And the last time you were here, you were a wanted criminal! I heard the Shogun has ceased the Vision Hunt Decree, but what of your status here? Did anybody see you coming here?!”
He chuckles at your outburst as he sits down on your couch, and you occupy the space next to him.
(He made sure to leave some gap between the two of you as you do so.)
“I am confident that no one was following me when I came to see you. So be rest assured,” he says. When you let out a sigh of relief, the smile on his face broadens. “How has your days been? I see that you've decided to take in a little companion as well.”
“My days have been as decent as they can be. And yeah! I was feeling lonely so I decided to adopt a cat. But now that you're here again, I think I'm feeling a lot better now!”
Kazuha watches as you laugh at your words, and for a moment, he sees your shoulders deflate a little.
“May I embrace you?” he asks. He notices your eyes go wide and then soften at his sudden request.
“Of course. You can hug me all you want, Kazuha...”
And he does. He fully turns his body to you, before wrapping an arm around your body while using his other one to support your head and bring you closer to him. He places a chaste kiss upon your forehead and you melt into him.
“You have no idea how long I've been waiting,” he whispers and he swears he can feel each beat and pace of your heart at his words. “Every day, I wished to hold you once more like this in my arms. And now that I am here with you, I am finally able to fulfill my wish.”
He feels you vibrate with joy beneath him, giggling. “You're so cheesy, Kazuha.”
And this time, it was his turn to laugh. “Indeed I am. But I am only like this because of you.”
“Will you spend today with me?” you ask, so sudden that it makes Kazuha smile.
“If that is what you wish, then absolutely.”
