Part One
It was his first day in the new school when Jungkook first met Taehyung.
Jungkook was the shy new kid who knew absolutely no one in the new city. He was scared because he thought that he would need too long to find friends because of his shyness which was always a problem for Jungkook. Back at his old home he had three friends and now he should start this friend-making-process again?
What if nobody wanted to be his friend? What if everyone would think that he was strange because he was always so quiet? What if they didn’t like him?
These questions were running through Jungkook’s little head all the time since they moved here because of his dad’s new job and he couldn’t stop from wondering how the new school might be. Would the teachers be nice to him? Or would they be really strict because he was the new student?
In the morning of his first day in the new school, Jungkook’s mom gave him his food for the lunchbreak – it was a kimbap sandwich and his favourite banana milk – and wished him a good first day in the new school. But she also noticed quickly, that Jungkook looked a little bit lost, his big doe eyes full of fear.
“What’s wrong, Sweetie?” she asked him, ruffling his hair.
Jungkook scrunched his nose, he didn’t like her doing this to his hair. “I’m a little bit scared that no one likes me at the new school,” Jungkook answered, his voice quiet and sad. It was the first time that he spoke out loud his worries but his mom just smiled and pulled her son into a tight hug.
“Oh Baby, you’re gonna make a lot of friends there. I have this feeling that you will meet some really great people there and they will be friends for life. Just be a little bit patient,” his mom assured him and pressed a small kiss on her son’s forehead.
Those few words held a lot of meaning for Jungkook because he got a little bit encouraged and felt braver than before. His mom was right. He just had to be patient and at some point, he would meet new friends. Everything at its own pace.
What Jungkook didn’t know at this point was that he would meet his best friend right on his first day in his first lecture. Because when he got in the classroom with his teacher, there was only one empty place in the class and that was right beside a boy who had a big boxy smile placed on his face.
“Students, this is Jungkook. He just moved here and he will go to our school from now on. Do you want to say something to the class, Jungkook?” the teacher asked him. Jungkook was too shy to talk in front of all these people so he just shook his head. “Alright. Just take a seat next to Taehyung, okay?” The Beta pointed at the empty space next to the boxy smile boy and Jungkook nodded as he made his way to the place.
Jungkook gulped when he looked at the other boy who smiled at him with a wide grin. Jungkook was nervous and scared. Not because of the boy but because he might say something stupid. That was why he always preferred to stay silent. But the boy – Taehyung was his name – just smiled. “Hello! I’m Taehyung. You’re new here, right?”
Jungkook nodded. “Yeah,” he answered.
Taehyung giggled and leaned over to Jungkook for him to understand him better. “That’s so cool. If you want, I can show you around in the break. My friends are also really nice people, they will love you, Jungkookie.”
From this moment on, Jungkook realized that Taehyung was a total social butterfly and that he would make friends with everyone. Maybe it wasn’t a bad thing that the teacher sat the two of them together. Jungkook felt a little bit of hope.
“Thank you,” Jungkook said quietly and scrunched his nose slightly as he smiled back at Taehyung. It was the first time that he formed his lips to a smile.
“Oh my God, Jungkookie! You look like a bunny,” Taehyung said and tilted his head in adoration. “You’re so cute. I think we can be great friends.”
And Taehyung was right but at this point they didn’t know how close their bond would get over the years. That their friendship would only grow stronger and stronger because they felt the safest when they were with each other.
Jungkook met Taehyung’s friends on his first day in the new school as well. Jimin, Yoongi, Hoseok, Namjoon and Seokjin. Well, Namjoon was Taehyung’s older brother but he was in the same friends group and they all welcomed Jungkook with open arms. They all treated him like he belonged to their group for years and showed him around right away. Jungkook felt so happy. He couldn’t believe that on his first day, he met these wonderful people.
In his last lecture of the first school day, Jungkook sat next to Taehyung again. The older – they found out that Jungkook was the youngest now in their group – pulled him with him to the empty desk for two people and Jungkook was glad that he could sit next to Taehyung. Even though the others were also really nice to him and Jungkook felt comfortable with everyone of them, it was still a little bit different with Taehyung. Maybe it was because he met him first or maybe because they were the closest at age but there was something that let Jungkook feel the most comfortable with Taehyung.
“If you want to, we can visit each other from time to time. Our house is really big,” Taehyung told him and Jungkook couldn’t believe what he just heard. When he thought back at this morning where he was scared not to find any friends at the new school and when he looked at the situation now he felt like he wanted to hug someone. This day really turned out better than he thought.
Suddenly the teacher entered the room and Jungkook stiffened in his seat. It was an Alpha, he knew it from the presence of the man. Just like his father, this man had an authority and strong aura. Jungkook wasn’t used to be around Alphas. His father was the only one basically.
“Is… Why is our teacher an Alpha? I thought only Betas and Omegas can be teachers,” Jungkook whispered at Taehyung. It was really strange for Jungkook that an Alpha was his teacher.
“Usually yes but our school is trying to break these stereotypes and I think it’s really good. But don’t worry Jungkookie, Mr. Kang is really nice and doesn’t use his strength towards us students. He is a super cool teacher. Actually, he’s my favourite,” Taehyung explained with a big smile on his lips. Jungkook looked him in the eyes and felt a wave of comfort washing over him. It was strange but Taehyung’s presence calmed him down even with a strong and usually intimidating Alpha in the same room. “And if you ever get scared of any Alpha, don’t forget that I’m there to protect you.”
Jungkook’s heart warmed up at that and a shy smile formed on his lips. He couldn’t get any luckier with Taehyung as his new friend.
From that time on, Taehyung was always there for the younger. They got best friends and never left the other’s side. The weekend after Jungkook came to the new school, he slept over at Taehyung’s and their weekly movie night on Friday was born. On their first movie night, they watched Iron Man and ate tons of candys and snacks. They slept in Taehyung’s bed and the next morning, Taehyung’s mom made them a delicious breakfast.
Taehyung was right. His parents loved Jungkook from the first moment and as the years passed by, they treated him like their son as well. The same goes for Jungkook’s parents with Taehyung. They were so happy to see their children getting along so well that they automatically befriended with each other as well.
After the first year, Jungkook and his parents moved to the city, they made a big family trip with Taehyung’s family. It was like heaven for Jungkook to spend his vacation with his best friend. They rented a beach house where all of them fit in. Jungkook and Taehyung shared one room while Namjoon had his own room because he was the oldest of the children. During the holidays, Jungkook and Taehyung sometimes stayed up till the morning hours, talking about this and that, playing fun games or just being with each other.
Their friendship grew stronger as they grew up and at some point, Jungkook couldn’t imagine a life without his best friend anymore. He wanted to do everything with Taehyung, he wanted to live with him once he was older. Their friendship was so pure and real and everyone who saw them adored the way they acted with each other.
It was the time when they got presented when Jungkook first had doubts that their friendship would break apart. The night after he got presented as an Omega and Taehyung as an Alpha, Jungkook sneaked out of his house and sat down on the swing in his garden. He didn’t talk to Taehyung properly yet and he was a little bit scared that everything would change now.
He felt sad because he had no idea what he should do now. Usually, he would always talk to Taehyung in these situations but now they got presented. What if the society wouldn’t like an Omega and Alpha being friends together? What if their friends group would split apart?
“Hey!”
Jungkook startled when he heard the voice sounding next to him. It was just Taehyung but it was already dark and he didn’t see him coming. Maybe he was also too deep in his thoughts to realize his best friend coming towards him. Whatever it was, he wasn’t prepared.
“Hey Hyungie,” Jungkook greeted him quietly.
Taehyung sat down on the swing next to him and kicked softly against his foot. “Couldn’t sleep either?” he asked the younger and Jungkook nodded.
“Yeah,” he whispered before he looked up to meet Taehyung’s eyes. Those beautiful eyes that gave Jungkook always security and comfort. “How did you know that I’m awake as well?”
Taehyung shrugged and smiled softly. “I don’t know. Telepathy maybe?” he suggested, causing Jungkook to giggle.
Telepathy didn’t work. Yet, sometimes Jungkook had the strange feeling that there was something, a bond or something like that, between them that let the other know when they needed each other. It was strong and Jungkook always felt it. This thing was only with Taehyung and not with the others even though they were his close friends as well.
For a while it was silent between the two best friends. It wasn’t an uncomfortable one which Jungkook also knew well enough. No, it was different with Taehyung. Nothing could ever be uncomfortable with the older. Not even the fact that his best friend was now ranked as an Alpha and Jungkook himself as an Omega. This shouldn’t be uncomfortable. Didn’t they promise themselves that nothing would ever come between them?
“I was wondering, you know,” Jungkook began while looking down on his bare feet. They were touching the soft grass which was a little bit wet from the dew that was slowly forming on the ground. A soft smile was placed on his lips before he sighted. “Will we change now?” He spoke out the question so low that he wasn’t even sure if Taehyung heard him right. Jungkook hoped not so because he was scared that the question was too dumb.
But Taehyung heard him well enough because he stood up from his place on the swing and crouched down in front of Jungkook to cup the younger’s cheeks and forced him to look at him. Jungkook didn’t know what was happening at that moment because when he looked up to meet Taehyung’s eyes there was something happening inside of his stomach. A tingle that he never felt like this before.
“Listen to me, Bun,” Taehyung said softly and caressed his cheeks with his thumbs. “You and I have such a special bond that nothing could ever break. Especially not these stupid ranks. You are my best friend, my partner in crime, my other half. I promise you that nothing will ever change between the two of us. We are still the same, aren’t we?”
Jungkook’s heart raced inside his chest and he didn’t know why. He never felt like this when he was with Taehyung and when the older described him as his best friend, Jungkook felt a slight sting in his chest. He couldn’t explain what was going on with his body but he didn’t want to worry Taehyung so he stayed quiet for now. This would get away soon, right?
“Yeah, we are,” Jungkook said instead and smiled shyly, his nose scrunching a little bit at Taehyung’s words. They were still the same, just a little bit older than they were when they first met but they both knew that this day would come eventually. They both knew that someday they both would be presented. It was just that they never really talked about what would happen once they were presented.
“Exactly! Nothing will ever come between us, I promise you this,” Taehyung said with such a determined sound in his voice that Jungkook immediately felt safe. He had his best friend by his side and nothing will ever change between the two of them.
Jungkook nodded and gulped before smiling brightly. “I guess I was just a little bit overwhelmed from everything that happened. You as an Alpha and me as an Omega… It can be scary but I guess I don’t have to be afraid when I’m with you,” Jungkook said but still held the eye contact with Taehyung. There was something that made it impossible for him to look away from those beautiful brown eyes of his best friend. Taehyung had such mesmerizing eyes.
“Of course not,” Taehyung laughed. “Remember what I told you back then? I will always be there to protect you.”
At that Jungkook’s heart skipped a beat and when Taehyung leaned in his breath hitched for a second until he felt the elder’s lips on his forehead. Jungkook didn’t know what was happening with him but he knew that it was always there deep down inside of him. Taehyung always made him feel the safest. Taehyung was always there for him to help him through not so good moments but he was also there to celebrate the good moments in life.
It had always been Taehyung.
The realisation should be more surprising but Jungkook didn’t feel surprised. Somehow he always knew that he felt a little bit more for Taehyung than a friend. He kind of always knew that the feelings he held for Taehyung were so much deeper but he always ignored it. He didn’t exactly know what made him realize this but this didn’t matter. The fact was that Jungkook was in love with his best friend. Probably longer than he was aware of.
“Do you want me to stay over?” Taehyung asked, causing Jungkook to come back from his own thoughts. “I mean it was a long day for the both of us and I really want to cuddle with my best friend now.”
Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to make himself fall in love even more with Taehyung. But Jungkook wanted nothing more than to fall asleep in his best friend’s arms. Like he always did before and honestly, what was different now? Yeah, maybe he was aware of his little crush now and maybe they also got presented now but that didn’t matter to them anyway. They were still Taehyung and Jungkook. They got this.
“Yes please,” Jungkook heard him saying before he could even realize what this would mean for him and his feelings.
But when they lied down in Jungkook’s bed, nothing was different. They still fit together like puzzle pieces and Jungkook still felt the safest and warmest in Taehyung’s arms. It was like usual.
And the days after this were still the same as usual. They didn’t change much. Except the more skin contact. They were searching, almost craving after the each other’s scent. When they had now their weekly movie night, they didn’t just cuddle with each other. They did also give each other massages or play with the other’s hair. And after a while because Taehyung learned it would calm Jungkook down when he was feeling scared, sad or simply overwhelmed, Taehyung also began to scent Jungkook.
Those few changes were nothing to them because that’s what friends always do, right?
***********
Part Two
It was already getting dark outside and Jungkook looked at his watch for the tenth time that evening. Where was Taehyung? He should’ve been here already but he still hadn’t called back nor gave another sign to Jungkook. They were supposed to have their weekly movie night at Jungkook’s home but the older didn’t show up yet.
Jungkook let out a sigh and went down where the kitchen was. His parents weren’t home tonight and he and Taehyung actually agreed on cooking together for their movie night and then made themselves comfortable with their food on Jungkook’s bed. It was always the best. The snacks and food. Well, besides the cuddling sessions afterwards of course because that’s Jungkook’s absolutely favourite thing of those nights.
Suddenly, Jungkook heard a noise at the door and seconds later a key turning the lock to open the door. Taehyung entered the house, completely soaked from the rain outside and trembling like a leaf. “Fuck!” he yelled as he shook his head and small droplets of water splashed away from him.
Jungkook was with him immediately and got a blanket from the closet. “What happened to you?” he asked, a little bit worried because Taehyung was completely wet. From the head to his toes.
“My car broke down on my way here and when I wanted to call you I realized that my phone has no battery anymore so I decided to run here but it started raining and now I’m completely soaked from the rain and I’m so goddamn cold,” Taehyung told the younger and Jungkook immediately felt sorry for what happened to his best friend.
“You can take a shower and I can make you some hot chocolate in the meantime. How does that sound?” Jungkook asked and smiled encouraging.
“You’re an angel, Koo. Thank you so much!”
Jungkook just smiled and made his way to the kitchen while Taehyung quickly went to the bathroom to take a hot shower. The good thing was that Taehyung already had a lot of his clothes here at Jungkook’s home and the same was the other way around. Jungkook also has a lot of his own clothes at Taehyung’s even though he preferred to wear the Alpha’s sweaters over his own. It was it was Taehyung’s scent on the clothes that made Jungkook calm down. Just like right now because Jungkook was currently wearing a sweater of Taehyung.
While Taehyung was in the bathroom showering, Jungkook prepared two cups of hot chocolate with some marshmallows in it and also started to cook for their movie night. It wasn’t a lot and usually they only made themselves a pizza just like today as well. It didn’t take long and when Taehyung came back from the bathroom, Jungkook was about to put the pizzas in the oven.
“Did you decide yet what you want to watch today?” Taehyung asked his best friend as he sat down at the kitchen counter. Jungkook looked up and his heart sped up at the sight of his alpha friend. Taehyung’s wet hair from the shower hung him in the face and he looked absolutely hot like this. Jungkook immediately cursed his confused little heart that just couldn’t quite accept that they were just friends. Best friends and Jungkook didn’t want to ruin their precious friendship because of his stupid feelings.
“I thought about some Disney movies?” Jungkook suggested to distract himself from his quickly beating heart. It was like this for years now but slowly Jungkook began to realize that he should maybe change something. The best option was to get some space but that was a thing he couldn’t do even if he wanted to because he needed Taehyung close to him. His scent and presence calmed him always down.
“Of course it’s always Disney movies if you’re about to choose. I should have known,” Taehyung chuckled and stood up from his place, just to come closer and to press a soft kiss on the younger’s temple.
Jungkook was shocked and his eyes widened for a moment. Things like this happened a lot as well but it had probably no meaning for Taehyung. Jungkook quickly supressed the thought that came up at that and grabbed after Taehyung’s cup of hot chocolate.
“Here! It just got ready. I think you need this after your bad day and in a few minutes once our pizzas are ready, we can go upstairs and then we can start our movie night,” Jungkook said with a big smile on his face.
“I can’t wait. Our movie nights are always the only thing I look forward for the weekend.”
Taehyung had no idea what this sentence did to Jungkook because the younger kept quiet even though on the inside, he was struggling real hard to get his heavy racing heart under control.
Once the pizza was finished, both of them went upstairs to get into the younger’s room. Jungkook had a huge bed and he always prepared his room for the movie nights prettily. Because the full light was too strong for his sensitive eyes, Jungkook bought himself fairy lights last winter to decorate his room and to have a nice light for the night. It made his room a lot cosier with all the cute decoration he had put on his shelves.
“I think we should start with Finding Nemo,” Jungkook said and Taehyung just nodded. What the younger didn’t know was that Taehyung would always agree with his ideas without hesitating. For Taehyung, Jungkook was always the number one priority in his life and that wouldn’t change anymore.
“Whatever you want, Koo. I just want to lie down here with you and enjoy our movie night.”
Jungkook’s heart swelled in his chest as he smiled brightly. They made themselves comfortable in Jungkook’s bed and began to eat their pizza.
With the hours passing, Jungkook snuggled into Taehyung’s side at some point and soon enough they didn’t pay attention to the movies anymore. Finding Nemo was long over and then they started with the sequel but somehow, Jungkook couldn’t pay attention of how Dorie got lost and how they found her again. He’d rather watched Taehyung falling asleep which happened after the first half of the second movie.
It wasn’t the movie night per se that made Jungkook the happiest. It was more the cuddling and being close to Taehyung that made him so happy that he could hug the whole world. Even though he knew so well that it was unhealthy to feel like this. Unrequited feelings weren’t nice and never the thing he wanted to experience but he couldn’t get over Taehyung. Not when he spent almost 24/7 with him. And Jungkook realized again that he’d rather live as best friends with Taehyung for the rest of his life than to start a life on his own with someone else that wasn’t the alpha.
~~~
A car honked outside the house which signalized Jungkook that Taehyung was here, picking him up for school. “Taehyung’s here. I’ll be going to school now,” Jungkook yelled through the house to let his mother know that he’ll be heading off now.
“Alright, Sweetie. Have fun in school!”
Jungkook took his jacket from the garderobe, put his shoes on and headed out of the house and straight to Taehyung’s car. It was always like that since Taehyung had his drivers licence and soon when Jungkook had his own as well, they would switch parts with driving to school.
“Good morning!” Jungkook greeted Taehyung when he got into the car.
Taehyung leaned over to press his usual morning kiss on Jungkook’s cheek, causing the younger to blush as usual. “Good morning to my favourite omega,” Taehyung greeted him. Jungkook always felt so special when being with Taehyung. He almost forgot that they were just best friends for a moment because it felt like they were already more. It also confused the people who didn’t know them that well because they would often think that Jungkook and Taehyung were dating when seeing how they acted with each other.
Taehyung started driving away from the younger’s house and kept his eyes on the road. “I thought about your birthday next weekend and wanted to ask you if you’re okay with a small little party with just our friends and us? My parents are out of town this weekend and we can celebrate at mine if you’re okay with it.”
The truth was that Jungkook preferably wanted to celebrate his birthday with just his closest friends and that Taehyung already assumed that without even asking him made Jungkook feel so grateful to have this person in his life. It made the omega inside of him even more craving after Taehyung because if it was up to his omega, it was already decided who his future mate was but it was Jungkook’s other side that was scared of confessing to his best friend.
“I think that’s a great idea. Just a small little party with my favourite people,” Jungkook smiled and nodded. It was his eighteenth birthday next Saturday and Jungkook was so excited. He was the last one of his friends group to come of age and he wanted to celebrate this event with his friends group of course.
“You’ll get my present before though. I mean our movie night on Friday is at mine this time and since you’re staying over night you’ll get your present at midnight,” Taehyung explained with a wide grin on his face.
“If it’s up to me you don’t even have to make me a present. You know that I’m not a materialistic person. Just to spend my birthday with you is enough,” Jungkook stated and meant it like this. He knew well enough that Taehyung wouldn’t give in though. If the older had his present idea already he wouldn’t drop it just like that and Jungkook knew that by now. Years of friendship helped him to get to know Taehyung better than anybody else.
“I know and I still want to make you a present.” The discussion was over with that and Jungkook gave in. It was useless to tell Taehyung over and over again that he didn’t need a present for his birthday. “Before I forget it. You need to go to class today alone since I have to guide the new student around.”
Taehyung was the class president and since the teachers trust him the most it was his duty to guide new students around. The news of the new student, Kang Dasom, spread since last week. From Taehyung, Jungkook knew that the girl’s parents decided to move here because her father got a new job and because of that she would go to their High School for the last year. She also was an omega from what Jungkook heard about her.
“That’s okay. I hope she will find new friends in the school soon and that you’ll show her around properly,” Jungkook joked, causing Taehyung to laugh as well.
“You know well enough that I do my job properly,” Taehyung said but Jungkook already knew. Taehyung was the best for the position as the class president. He was a social butterfly under the students. He had good reputation in school and everyone trusted his opinion. It made Jungkook so proud when Taehyung came to him at first when he found out that he was chosen to be the class president.
Their ride went by quickly and when Taehyung parked his car in front of the school on the huge parking lot, they both got out of it. Together they walked to the entrance but then their ways parted because Taehyung needed to go to the headmaster’s office to pick up the new student and Jungkook needed to get to class. He didn’t have the first few periods with Taehyung.
“We’ll see each other at lunch?” Taehyung asked when they were at the point where their ways would part.
Jungkook nodded eagerly. “Yes, I’ll save you a place next to us again,” the younger agreed and then they went part ways. It wasn’t the first time that Jungkook went alone through the school halls but he never really liked the feeling walking there without his best friend.
That may sound like he was clingy towards Taehyung but Jungkook couldn’t help himself. He felt the safest when he was with Taehyung. Luckily, he still got Jimin as another great friend and with whom he had the first lecture with.
“There you are Jungkookie!” Jimin greeted him with the biggest smile and then he already had his short arms wrapped around the other omega. Jimin was another omega in their friends-group and was currently dating Yoongi who was also in their group of friends. The relationship between Jimin and Yoongi was obvious before they even got presented and the same was with Namjoon and Seokjin who were also a dating couple in their friends-group. “Why is Taehyung not accompanying you to your class this time?” Jimin asked confused and looked through the hall to make sure the alpha wasn’t anywhere around.
“Don’t you remember? We get a new student today and Taehyung’s duty as the class president is to show her around. I guess she’s already in the headmaster’s office and that’s why he went there straight before the first period.”
“Ahhh, yeah sorry I forgot that completely. Taehyung told me last week about it but it seems like I forgot about it. But anyway. The more important question is if Taehyung already told you about his plans for your birthday party?” Jimin asked and raised an eyebrow as they walked into the class and sat down next to each other.
“Yes, he already told me and I’m more than happy to keep the party private between our friends-group only,” Jungkook said and smiled brightly.
Jimin sighted and shook his head. “Yeah maybe but the chance to be alone with Taehyung and finally get closer to him will be non-existent. If there are more people at the party you will have the chance to dance with him and maybe hide somewhere to make out with him.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened and he shook his head quickly. He had no idea when and how Jimin found out about his feelings for Taehyung but the short guy knew and since then he teased Jungkook with it all the time. It was really annoying at some point but he couldn’t do anything.
“Maybe I don’t want that,” Jungkook threw in.
“We both know that you want it so bad. Or do I need to remind you on the hearts in your eyes whenever Taehyung is near you? Or when you space out whenever you are staring at him? I don’t understand you. Why didn’t you make your move already?” Jimin asked.
Jungkook knew the answer well enough but to his luck, the teacher entered the room in the same moment when he wanted to open his mouth, forcing him to pay attention to the beta teacher for the next lesson. Luckily, because he knew that Jimin wouldn’t be very pleased to hear his answer.
~~~
The lessons until their lunchbreak went by really quickly today and when Jungkook entered the cafeteria he felt his stomach rumbling. He didn’t notice how hungry he was until now.
Like always on Mondays, Taehyung wasn’t there when Jungkook entered the cafeteria because his way was longer than Jungkook’s and it was on to the younger to get them a good place. Today, he found Namjoon and Hoseok already at a table and with his full plate he walked in their direction.
“Hi, Hyungs!” Jungkook greeted them as he sat down next to Namjoon.
“Oh Jungkook, good to see you. We need your opinion on this as well because Namjoon doesn’t help me here,” Hoseok said and Jungkook heard Namjoon groaning annoyed.
“Just because I told you that I wouldn’t take a black car if I was you doesn’t mean that I’m no help,” Namjoon explained.
“Yes, but you also didn’t tell me which colour I should take. So, Jungkook. Which colour would you choose if you were me,” Hoseok asked and looked at Jungkook who was really confused in that moment.
“What? I didn’t know that you want to buy a car. Do you have a colour in mind? Or maybe a few options you like?” Jungkook asked and began to eat his lunch.
Hoseok shook his head. “It’s just a general question what you would choose because I have no idea which colour I should pick and yes, I’m planning to buy a car but it still has time,” Hoseok explained and Jungkook nodded.
“I don’t know… I think a blue car fits you well,” Jungkook said and shrugged.
“Blue… Okay thank you. Now I just have to ask the others as well,” Hoseok said and looked back at Namjoon. “And? Did you think of a colour in the meantime? I need one specific colour from you to add it to the list and once I have asked everyone I can think more about this.”
“Yeah, okay I don’t know… White?” Namjoon said but it sounded more like a question than an answer.
Hoseok grimaced his face and shook himself. He probably wouldn’t choose white as the colour of his car but he wrote it down anyway. “White will look dirty so quickly,” Hoseok mumbled.
“Then why did you even ask me?” Namjoon grumbled. “It’s not like it was a very important question.”
Before Hoseok said something to Namjoon, two hands grabbed Jungkook’s shoulders and the youngest startled. “Oh my God,” he yelled and when he turned around he saw Taehyung’s laughing face. Jungkook put a hand on his chest where his heart was racing quickly. “You asshole,” Jungkook mumbled. “That scared me.”
A small pout appeared on the younger’s face and Taehyung laughed more before he sat down right next to Jungkook and threw an arm over his shoulders. “You’re so easy to startle, Bun,” Taehyung said and kissed Jungkook’s cheek. A blush formed there immediately and Jungkook turned away to his plate not that everyone could see his red cheeks. Why did Taehyung call him by this petname now in front of the others?
“You two are really cute,” an unfamiliar voice sounded and when Jungkook looked up he saw a girl sitting across from him on their table.
“Right! Guys, this is Dasom, the new student. Dasom, these are my friends. Jungkook, Namjoon and Hobi. Jimin and Yoongi will be there any minute as well and Jin isn’t in High School anymore,” Taehyung introduced them to each other and Jungkook smiled friendly at the girl. She was pretty and Jungkook admired her bright red hair that she surely dyed recently.
“Yes, Taetae showed me around and since then we had only classes together so he asked me if I wanted to sit with you guys for the lunchbreak since I don’t know anyone yet.”
Jungkook frowned at the nickname she gave Taehyung but he quickly shook the thought off again. This didn’t have to mean anything. She was just nice and the new student.
“He’s a great class president, that’s for sure,” Hoseok, who sat next to Dasom, laughed and started a conversation with the new girl. They quickly found out about their shared obsession for dancing and since then they were talking nonstop.
“I have just one period after lunch break and I think we have both have art in our next lesson, right?” Taehyung leaned over to Jungkook and the younger nodded.
“It’s the last period for the both of us,” Jungkook reminded him. It was really nice to know the schedule of your best friend. It was Taehyung’s idea a few years ago and since then, they both shared their schedule with the other to know when the other is finished. It worked pretty well.
“Then let’s go out afterwards. I have a little surprise for you,” Taehyung said to the younger and Jungkook’s eyes widened. What for a surprise was that? And why did Taehyung make a surprise for him if his birthday was in a few days?
“Why are you always making surprises for me? It’s unfair because you made me more than enough already,” Jungkook pouted and Taehyung flicked his chin teasingly.
“Nothing is more than enough for my favourite person but you’ll see after school,” Taehyung promised him.
A soft little “Awww” sounded from the other side from the table and Jungkook looked up to see that Dasom watched them. “You two are a really sweet couple. I feel so single right now,” she said. Jungkook’s heart skipped a beat and he looked down on his plate. He didn’t feel the need to correct her.
“Oh, we’re not dating. Jungkook and I are just best friends. Partners in crime or however you want to call it.”
And with that, Jungkook’s heart broke a little bit and his appetite was gone. He quickly pushed the plate away from him and sighted deeply. For a short moment he though if he should excuse himself to go to the restroom but that would be too obvious, right? From the other side of the table, he felt Hoseok’s eyes on him but he didn’t look up. He couldn’t stand the pitiful look in his friend’s eyes.
“Anyway! I wanted to ask you what you think which colour I should pick for my car, Taehyung,” Hoseok said quickly to change the topic as if he knew that it was hard for Jungkook. It was in moments like this when Jungkook was really thankful for his friends but in the same moment, he also realized that he had to change something. It couldn’t continue like this. Not when Taehyung still just saw him as a best friend and nothing more.
For the rest of the lunchbreak, Jungkook remained silent. He just listened to Hoseok asking the colour question also to Jimin and Yoongi when they joined them on their table but he didn’t talk much while the others were still eating.
~~~
“Where are you taking me?” Jungkook asked as they walked along the beach promenade. He had no idea what surprise Taehyung had for him but as they were walking hands in hands he couldn’t hold back a giggle. After what happened during the lunchbreak, Jungkook needed a cute adventure with his best friend. Even though it wouldn’t be good for his feelings toward his said best friend.
“When will you stop asking me this? You’ll see what I planned for you as a surprise when we’re there. But you don’t have to ask much longer because we’re almost there,” Taehyung assured him and Jungkook’s eyes brightened. He scrunched his nose up, giddy because he would soon find out what he and Taehyung would do on this beautiful afternoon.
Taehyung was right because not even five minutes later they stood in front of an arcade hall which Jungkook observed with wide eyes. He was always a big fan of these kinds of games and wanted to go there for a really long time. Sadly, he never found the time to or simply forgot to ask Taehyung to go with him. That Taehyung decided to take him there was proof enough for Jungkook that his best friend was the best and he couldn’t wish for anyone better. It also let his little heart beat a little bit quicker because of the thought that Taehyung knew him so well after all those years.
“What… but how could you? I never told you that I want to go here,” Jungkook said stuttering and Taehyung laughed. The sound of it caused butterflies in Jungkook’s stomach but he quickly decided to ignore them. It was not the time to think about his feelings for Taehyung.
“I guess it was telepathy,” Taehyung explained grinning wide from ear to ear.
Telepathy… Yeah, it was what Taehyung always said over the last years and in a way he was right because Jungkook felt it as well. He knew exactly when Taehyung was feeling down or when he wanted to talk about something. Jungkook had no idea what it was and why they could feel what the other needed but it was there. It was this weird feeling that he never explained to anybody. They might think that he was crazy.
Jungkook didn’t say anything but threw himself in Taehyung’s arm to let him know that he was thankful for this idea. Taehyung wrapped his arms around the younger’s waist and pulled him closer and they stayed like this a few more minutes until Taehyung leaned back slightly.
“Let’s head inside, the arcade doesn’t wait for you,” he whispered in Jungkook’s ear and the omega giggled before he nodded and let go of Taehyung.
~~~
A few hours later, they both stumbled out of the arcade after a whole afternoon of fun. Jungkook couldn’t remember when he last laughed that much but he was so happy right now, he couldn’t describe this in words.
“Oh my God, that was amazing! Thank you Taehyungie,” Jungkook said when they were out on the promenade again. In front of them was the wide ocean where the sun was already going down. It was a beautiful view and there was nobody else with whom Jungkook wanted to share this moment more than with Taehyung.
“I guess I had the right idea to brighten up your mood,” Taehyung shrugged and stepped next to Jungkook. They were standing at the railing, looking over the ocean.
Jungkook turned his head and looked at his best friend confused. “What do you mean with brighten up my mood?” Jungkook asked.
Taehyung just smiled and stepped closer, causing Jungkook’s heart to beat so fast in his chest so that he was scared that it would jump out any second. They were so close and usually they were even closer but the atmosphere at the promenade and the sunset was almost a little bit romantic. Taehyung rested his hand on Jungkook’s cheek and ran his thumb over the younger’s cheekbone. “You looked so sad earlier during lunch and so I thought that I have to make you smile again which was successful I guess,” Taehyung said smiling and Jungkook felt the tears which were forming in his eyes.
There was just one word that could describe Taehyung in that moment: Perfect. Jungkook never doubted this but now he had the confirmation. Taehyung was perfect and he had no idea how he deserved such a person in his life. The omega’s little heart was falling even deeper for the alpha but that was not important right now. The only thing that counted right now was that Taehyung noticed his sad mood earlier and did everything to make him happy again.
“You don’t have to always tell me when you are feeling down but I want to be there for you. I mean, that’s what friends are for, right?”
There was it again. This awful word that ruined every perfect moment between them and that broke Jungkook’s heart again. It was horrible how this little word could have such a power over him but Taehyung just said it and Jungkook had to accept the fact that they would never be more than friends.
“Yeah, right,” Jungkook agreed and nodded. The small smile on his face was real and not faked but it wasn’t as big as before when they had the fun of their lives in the arcade.
“I know tomorrow is school but do you want to sleep at my place today? I think we both need some cuddles,” Taehyung said and Jungkook gulped.
This was a very bad idea. After the magic moment was ruined with this word, Jungkook knew he had to bring space between him and Taehyung for the rest of the day but on the other side was it too hard for him to let the opportunity slip through his fingers. Taehyung would hold him close tonight and cuddle him to sleep. It would hurt him at some point but Jungkook wanted to be selfish one more time.
“Yeah okay,” Jungkook said and smiled brightly. “I’ll just let my parents know.”
~~~
A loud rumble was heard outside and Jungkook sat straight in his bed. Or more precisely Taehyung’s bed. A few seconds later, another lightning lit up the darkness outside and in the next moment the next thunder was heard. A thunderstorm.
Jungkook whimpered frightened and curled himself up in a ball. He was always scared of thunderstorms and always woke up when it was raining heavily outside while the lightning and thunder were rumbling.
Not a minute later, Jungkook felt a body next to him moving and some tired sounds escaping Taehyung’s lips. “What the…”
The next thunder interrupted Taehyung and Jungkook felt tears running down his cheeks. Why was it so loud? He had such sensitive ears and couldn’t stand loud noises but thunderstorms were always the worst.
“Oh my God, Koo,” Taehyung mumbled, still tired, and quickly wrapped his arms around the boy’s shaking body. He held Jungkook tightly and in the same moment, the younger relaxed a little bit. “I’m here okay? You don’t have to be afraid.”
Taehyung’s soft words did wonders to Jungkook but not long after another thunder was heard outside and Jungkook flinched in the alpha’s arms. “Psht,” he whispered softly and caressed Jungkook’s hair. It was a calming gesture and that as well as the fact that Taehyung’s scent surrounded him, helped Jungkook to calm down a little bit. “I’m here, the thunderstorm is outside. We’re both safe here.”
Jungkook sniffled and nodded at the crook of Taehyung’s neck. “Hyungie?” Jungkook mumbled but flinched at the next thunder noise.
“It’s okay, I’m here,” Taehyung mumbled quietly and pressed a kiss on Jungkook’s forehead.
“Please scent me,” Jungkook begged.
They didn’t do it a lot. It was mostly when Jungkook was scared or really sad that Taehyung scented him but it still happened. The first time it happened, Taehyung didn’t know any other way to calm Jungkook down. The omega was close to a panic attack and Taehyung needed a way to stop it. After it happened, Jungkook was a little bit scared that the fact that Taehyung scented him would change their friendship but nothing like this happened and they did it again.
Taehyung didn’t hesitate but nodded immediately. He leaned a little bit away from the younger and looked down at him before leaning closer and rubbed his nose softly on Jungkook’s neck. Not only a second later, Jungkook felt how he slowly started to relax bit by bit. He blended out the loud noises from the outside and just perceived Taehyung’s presence and his scent which slowly surrounded Jungkook completely.
Jungkook couldn’t explain why but Taehyung’s scent was the only thing that calmed him down within a few minutes. It was crazy how easily he felt comfortable again and how quickly he recovers from the little panic attack. It was hard to describe but Taehyung’s scent was familiar. Almost like he always needed his mother’s scent around him when he was younger. It still calmed Jungkook down though to smell his mother’s scent but it was a lot more different with Taehyung. Taehyung’s scent was special and Jungkook felt warm and loved.
It took a while until Taehyung leaned away again, even after he scented Jungkook, he still stayed close to him, giving the younger the feeling of security and comfort and Jungkook couldn’t be gladder to have his best friend by his side who always knew what he needed to do in situations like this.
“Are you feeling better now?” Taehyung asked softly and brushed Jungkook’s hair out of his face. The omega’s doe eyes got wide as he realized how close their faces were in that moment. He just needed to lean in and their lips would meet.
But Jungkook didn’t lean in and instead nodded. “Yeah,” he croaked because his voice gave up from all the crying in the last few minutes. “Thank you.”
Taehyung smiled warmly which caused a feeling in Jungkook’s stomach that shouldn’t be that strong but he just got scented and in this state it was hard for Jungkook to get away from Taehyung. He preferably wanted to be as close to Taehyung as possible.
“You’re always my number one priority. I will do everything to protect you and you know that,” Taehyung said that with pure honesty in his voice and Jungkook buried his face in the crook of the alpha’s neck. He could smell Taehyung there the best which was important for him in his current state. “Let’s try to sleep a little bit more. You’re exhausted after this panic the storm caused you. I’ll be there and hold you for the rest of the night. You’re safe with me.”
Jungkook knew this. He knew exactly that he was safe with Taehyung next to him.
His best friend kept his promise and held the omega tightly during the whole night. Jungkook didn’t know when the tiredness hit him but at a point he couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore and slowly drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
~~~
The days after the thunderstorm passed in a rush and soon enough Jungkook and Taehyung had their weekly movie night again. They both needed it after this stressful Friday in School. Jungkook accidentally tripped over his own feet in the cafeteria during lunchbreak and his clothes were obviously dirty afterwards. The worst part was though that a little bit of his tomato sauce also spattered on the head cheerleader’s uniform.
Kira, the cheerleader, started to yell at Jungkook which made him sad of course and he ran away to hide himself in the bathroom stall to cry there. Jungkook always was very sensitive when someone raised their voice at him.
Taehyung was told about the incident when he joined the group at their usual table and immediately left his food behind to search after Jungkook but without giving dark glares at the table of the cheerleaders. Usually it was known that Taehyung wouldn’t let it slip if someone was mean to his best friend and nobody dared to hurt Jungkook because they didn’t want to take the alpha’s anger on them but the cheerleaders, especially Kira, were never a big fan of Jungkook for being popular.
Luckily, Taehyung had a sweater of his with him and Jungkook was able to change his clothes but he still was sensitive for the rest of the day and didn’t leave Taehyung’s side after the little incident. They luckily had the same periods after the lunchbreak, so it was not a big problem.
And now they lied curled up against each other in Taehyung’s bed and watched the first Avengers movie because Taehyung knew well enough that the movies were Jungkook’s favourite. Since it was a shitty day for the younger and in a few minutes, when the clock would strike midnight, it would be the omega’s birthday, Taehyung suggested this movie for today and who was Jungkook to deny.
“Taehyungie?” Jungkook lifted his head to look up to his best friend since he had his head rested on Taehyung’s chest.
“Hm?” The older looked down and their eyes met.
Like every other time when they looked each other in the eyes so intensely, Jungkook felt thousands of butterflies in his stomach and it caused a small smile on his lips. It was magical even though Jungkook knew that he should do something to make these feelings disappear. It wouldn’t help him if Taehyung would find his mate at some point in the future. It would only destroy Jungkook from the inside if he had to look at Taehyung finding his mate.
“Thank you,” Jungkook said quietly and sighted. “For today and everything you did for me in the last few years. I don’t know why I always feel the need to tell you this but you are always there for me and you have no idea how happy I am to have you in my life.”
Taehyung sat up which caused Jungkook to sat up in the bed as well. The alpha cupped the omega’s cheeks and forced him to look at him. Taehyung was always so soft, it made Jungkook want to cry but he held his tears back. He couldn’t be emotional this time.
“There is nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for you. Today was a shitty day for you but I felt the need to make you forget about the stupid food incident in the cafeteria. Because you are special to me.”
When Taehyung spoke out loud those words, Jungkook felt that something changed. It was the way Taehyung looked at him now, so intensely, so desperately. This moment was different from all the other times when they looked each other in the eyes. It was pure and powerful and Jungkook felt a connection between them which he never felt before.
Jungkook’s eyes flickered to Taehyung’s lips and it was as if the older noticed where his eyes wandered because Taehyung’s gaze fell on Jungkook’s mouth as well and the moment got even more intense. Jungkook had no words to describe this feeling right now but he wasn’t scared of his own feelings towards Taehyung anymore. At least not in this moment.
When their eyes meet again, it was like an electrifying tension built up between them that drew them closer to each other, just like two magnets which belonged together.
But then before anyone of them could make a move, Taehyung’s alarm rang, signalizing the both of them that it was midnight. Jungkook’s birthday.
The magic moment between them was over in the blink of an eye and they shrieked apart. For a second, Jungkook didn’t realize what almost happened between them. Would they have kissed?
“Oh,” Taehyung hummed and quickly turned off his alarm. He quickly leaned over to his nightstand to search for something and pulled out a little box which had a cute, purple bow on it. With a bright smile, he looked at Jungkook and handed him over the box. “Happy Birthday, Jungkookie! You’re finally eighteen as well.”
“Thank you Hyungie,” Jungkook said as he took the box and looked at it. Taehyung was never good in wrapping a gift and Jungkook always teased him for that but this time, his best friend really tried harder. It still didn’t matter because the gift paper wouldn’t last long.
Jungkook unpacked the present and a sweet little box appeared. The omega looked up and Taehyung smiled. “Just put the cover off,” Taehyung said and nodded at the box. That’s what Jungkook did then and when he saw what was in the box his eyes widened at the sight of the beautiful jewellery.
It was a bracelet with cute little stars as pendants. Jungkook’s eyes watered because he never got gifted such a beautiful thing. “That’s… I…” he was speechless. Jungkook couldn’t remember a moment in his life where he was so overwhelmed by just a simple present.
“The stars are symbolising you. Because you are a star. You are my star and you have stars in your eyes and there’s no star that shines brighter than you. I know it’s a little bit cheesy but I love the ide….”
Before Taehyung could finish the sentence, Jungkook had his arms wrapped around the older and pulled him in a tight hug. The omega had no idea that he’d started to cry because he couldn’t handle the feelings. There was so much that he felt at once and if his best friend was saying those things, it was impossible not to fall harder for him. Jungkook needed to stop this from happening so he just implied an embrace.
“Thank you so much,” Jungkook said sniffling next to Taehyung’s ear and the older wrapped his arms around the younger’s body. Jungkook felt warm and comfortable in Taehyung’s arms and it was everything he wanted in that moment. Just the two of them.
~~~
After Taehyung gave Jungkook his gift for his birthday, the two of them went to sleep and slept late. Because it was Jungkook’s birthday, he was allowed to sleep as long as he wanted and that was the case today.
Afterwards, they ate something and then Taehyung drove the younger home so that he could spend some time with his parents and could get ready for the little party later. In the meanwhile Taehyung drove back to his own home to prepare a few things. Namjoon was also there to help him and Seokjin came over earlier as well to prepare their food for the party.
When it was time to pick up Jungkook again, Taehyung was already in his clothes for later and the living room where they all would hang out together was also finished for the youngest birthday party. Taehyung stopped his car in front of Jungkook’s home and just when he switched off the engine the front door opened and Jungkook stepped out.
The younger had a bright smile on his face when he stepped closer and let himself pulled into a tight hug by his best friend. “Look at you. You’re so pretty, Koo,” Taehyung complimented the omega and Jungkook blushed. He got shy all of a sudden and quickly covered that up with lifting his arm.
“Look Hyung! I wear the bracelet from you,” Jungkook said and grinned, his bunny teeth appeared with that.
“It looks so pretty on you. Just like yourself,” Taehyung said and Jungkook blushed even harder than before.
But before another weird moment could happen between them, Jungkook looked away quickly and pointed at the car with his head. “Let’s drive to your house quickly. It’s my birthday party anyway,” Jungkook said happily and tried his best to ignore the giddy feeling inside of him that only ever appeared there because of Taehyung.
The older helped him in the car which was so gentlemen-like from Taehyung and Jungkook couldn’t stop his heart from beating faster at the thought of it. He couldn’t deal with the closeness but at the same time Jungkook wanted to be even closer to Taehyung. It didn’t make sense but on the other hand it was completely logical.
Taehyung drove them to his own home and when they entered the house all of their friends group where already there. Jungkook was smiling bright when he saw his friends in Taehyung’s living room. He got what he wanted for his birthday. A small little party with his closest friends. Nothing more. Again, he got reminded that Taehyung always knew exactly what he wanted and always respected his wishes.
Jungkook was happy and he allowed himself to drink a few drinks mixed with alcohol. Though Taehyung was there to keep attention that Jungkook didn’t exaggerate with the alcohol since the omega was a lightweight when it came to drinking. And that was exactly what happened after his second drink.
Jungkook was giggling the whole time and he was always close to Taehyung. At some point of the night, he sat himself on the alpha’s lap and wrapped his arms around Taehyung’s neck. The thought of them being best friends didn’t cross his mind just once and Jungkook felt braver than he usually was. He was brave tonight.
Suddenly a thought came up and he snuggled his nose in the crook of Taehyung’s neck. He wanted to be near him so bad. “You smell so nice tonight, Hyungie,” Jungkook whispered. He didn’t care that all of their friends were with them and that they could watch them almost making out. They already knew that he had a pretty obvious crush on Taehyung anyway. Well, obvious for everyone except Taehyung at least.
“Really?” Taehyung asked chuckling.
“Hey Taehyung,” Jimin said and the both of them, Taehyung and Jungkook looked up.
“Maybe you should bring your big birthday baby to bed now,” Jimin suggested and wiggled his eyebrows. But of course, Taehyung didn’t get the actual meaning behind Jimin’s words.
“You know what, this is a really good idea. Jungkook, you are tipsy anyway,” Taehyung said and looked back at Jungkook again.
The youngest pouted and tilted his head. “But only if you are going to bed with me,” he said and frowned in a cute way that made Taehyung laugh.
“I would like to but first I need to get rid of the others,” Taehyung reminded him.
A collective “Hey” was heard from their friends and Jungkook shrugged. “You know the house anyway. And see it as my birthday present. Maybe I want to cuddle with Taehyungie now,” Jungkook said and smiled bravely. He really felt braver than usual which was mostly because of the alcohol.
“Yeah, yeah just go. I mean you sleep next to each other almost every day but it’s your birthday and we can’t deny you a wish. Just go to bed already you two idiots,” Seokjin said and chuckled as he saw how bright Jungkook’s smile was afterwards.
They went to bed together and the rest of their friends stayed in the living room. Jungkook was really tired and he felt the alcohol in his body but he wasn’t drunk at least. He was just a little bit braver and clingier than usual. Taehyung pulled him onto his chest as soon as they lied down in the elder’s bed.
“Thank you for today, Hyungie,” Jungkook said when the lights were switched off. He enjoyed this peacefulness between them. It could be like that forever if it was up to Jungkook. Maybe he should make a move. Maybe he should tell Taehyung today how he felt. Since he had a bit of alcohol in his blood that made him want to risk things.
But then again it was their friendship that was on the risk and he was too scared to loose not only a years lasting friendship but also Taehyung and to loose Taehyung was not acceptable for Jungkook. Taehyung was necessary to live for Jungkook like water and air. He couldn’t without him and that’s why he decided not to tell his best friend about his feelings. Even if it made everything harder for Jungkook.
~~~
It was a few days later when everything started to get difficult. Jungkook didn’t see it coming and if he knew to what this whole thing would lead in the end he didn’t know if he would have made everything differently or the exact way he’d done it.
It all started with Jungkook having his maths class with Dasom. The new girl was always nice to him in the last few weeks and they started to built a friendship. It wasn’t like with Jungkook’s other friends but he liked the girl since she was really friendly towards him and they had a few things in common like their obsession with banana milk.
“Can I ask you a question?” Dasom asked as soon as the class was over and the teacher left the room. Jungkook was packing his things to leave the class with his new friend as well. He looked up to the girl and nodded.
“You would ask me anyway,” he said jokingly which caused Dasom to laugh.
“Yeah, probably,” she said and nodded at the door telling him that they should walk to their next class. “But yeah it’s something that crossed my mind a few days already and I was always too shy to do anything. I mean, I want to thank Taehyung for showing me around in the first few days and so I wanted to ask you what he likes.”
Jungkook was a little taken aback. He had no idea what to say and what this would mean. But he didn’t think much about it since this was just a friendly gesture. “He likes strawberries a lot,” Jungkook answered her.
“Strawberries. Got it. Maybe I should bake some muffins or something like that. I have no idea but it makes me a little bit nervous,” Dasom confessed and Jungkook felt his stomach making weird things. He hoped that he wasn’t right with the assumption that was slowly building in his head.
“Yeah? But why?” he asked even though he didn’t want to know it. Or rather, he didn’t want to find out the truth. The fact was that he liked Dasom and he couldn’t bear to ignore her because of his stupid crush on his best friend.
“Okay but you have to promise me not to tell him. I know you two are best friends and it might be weird for you,” Dasom said and took a deep breath. “I might have a tiny little crush on Taehyung.”
There it was. The truth that destroyed everything. But on the other hand he couldn’t blame Dasom since it was hard not to fall for Taehyung’s charming nature. The alpha was just so kind to everyone and there was nobody who didn’t like him. Taehyung was friends with almost everyone in the school and probably half of the school had a crush on him.
“Jungkook?” Dasom asked because Jungkook zoned out her big eyes got worried. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry. You’re uncomfortable now because he’s your best friend. I should’ve known… I’m so stupid.”
“No,” Jungkook rushed to say and shook his head. If there was anyone stupid here it was him because he was too scared of confessing his feelings to his best friend. Not a girl that was so nice to them all the time and couldn’t resist the charm of Kim Taehyung. “I mean you aren’t stupid. And don’t worry, I won’t tell Taehyung about it. I just…” Jungkook though of something to escape the situation. Or should he just tell her about his own deep feelings for his best friend? Would she understand? Or would she act like a bitch? “I need to go to the restroom for a minute. You can walk to our next class already.”
Dasom looked at Jungkook for a moment but then she nodded. “Okay. And thank you for listening.”
Jungkook just smiled but couldn’t bring out another word before he quickly turned around and left the girl in the corridor all by herself. Maybe it wasn’t nice of him but he needed to get away from there. What should he do now? Dasom liked Taehyung. His best friend, the person he was in love with for years now. What was he supposed to do?
As soon as Jungkook was in the restroom he hid himself in one of the stalls. It was so much at once for him and he didn’t even know if he should cry or just scream the anger out. He wasn’t mad at Dasom. She was the least he could blame for this situation. It was himself whom he was mad at because he couldn’t keep his feelings under control. He was so stupid for not admitting his love for Taehyung out loud.
Jungkook didn’t know he was shaking until he looked down on his hands and saw them trembling. But he still couldn’t cry. All the time Jungkook thought that he would cry if he’d ever find out that another person had a crush on Taehyung but now nothing happened. It was the shock that was still having him under control and that’s why he couldn’t cry.
Why was his life so complicated? Why could he not tell Taehyung about his true feelings? For the first time since he got aware of his crush on his best friend, Jungkook felt like he didn’t want to be just friends. He regretted that he never told Taehyung and he wished that he’d risked their friendship sooner.
When Jungkook calmed down again, he still wasn’t calm but he didn’t look like he was in shock anymore, he left the restroom and made his way to his maths class. But the second he entered the classroom he regretted his decision because there was Dasom and Taehyung sitting next to each other and chatting about something that must’ve been funny. Jungkook’s heart sank at the sight. The girl started to laugh about something Taehyung had said and it broke his heart. Jungkook couldn’t bear this.
Before he could run away from the classroom and decide to just skip it, Taehyung turned around and faced his best friend. The alpha’s face lit up when he saw the younger and he signalized him to come to them. With hesitant steps, Jungkook made his way to Taehyung and the girl who had a crush on him and sat down next to his best friend.
“I’m sorry, there was a line…” Jungkook had no idea why he lied. Taehyung could literally sense every lie Jungkook told him. It was a surprise that he didn’t find out the secret which Jungkook hid for years now.
“I was getting worried, Jungkookie,” Taehyung said and his eyes softened. Jungkook’s treacherous heart started to beat faster and he kept his hopes high for a moment but then he remembered that Taehyung had joked with Dasom just a few moments ago and it seemed nothing like the older was worried about him.
“Yeah, nothing happened. We should focus on the lecture,” Jungkook quickly shrugged off and turned away. He knew exactly that this reaction wasn’t helpful and it would only make Taehyung more suspicious but Jungkook couldn’t help himself.
A few minutes into the lecture, Taehyung leaned over to Jungkook and sadly the younger was too aware of the elder’s body heat. It was also Taehyung’s scent that was so close now and that took in all of Jungkook’s senses. “Is everything okay with you?” Taehyung asked softly.
“Yeah,” Jungkook answered but kept his attention at the teacher.
“I should rather ask you what’s wrong today because you’re acting weird. I’m just worried, Koo,” Taehyung said. It was hard for Jungkook not to turn his head around and to face Taehyung but he resisted and gripped the pen a little bit harder. Which was also a little bit dumb because Taehyung would notice this immediately from his knuckles turn white.
“Bun…” Taehyung sighted and it was enough for Jungkook. He put his pen down and excused himself quickly by his teacher. He packed his things and left the classroom because he couldn’t sit next to Taehyung anymore. It was hard for him to accept the fact that Taehyung could fall in love with Dasom as well and it hurt him even more that he might put someone else at first and not Jungkook anymore.
Jungkook didn’t get far, just at the end of the corridor until he heard the door to the classroom shut close again. “What’s wrong, Jungkook?” Taehyung asked and his voice was a little bit harsher than before. “Did I do something wrong?”
Jungkook stopped but didn’t turn around. He needed to get away from this. He needed to close himself up in his room and cuddle one of his stuffies. Preferably one he got from Taehyung even though it wouldn’t help his fragile heart.
“Are you mad at me?”
The omega shook his head but still didn’t turn around. How could Taehyung believe that he did something wrong in here? It was all his fault. All Jungkook’s. Because he couldn’t open his mouth when it came to his feelings for the alpha.
Taehyung already caught up with Jungkook and stepped in front of the younger so that he was forced to face him. “Then tell me because I have no idea what’s wrong with you right now and I just want to help you. Did something happen? Was someone mean to you?” Taehyung’s face darkened. “I swear to God if someone hurt you I will kick their ass so hard that they ca…”
“No one hurt me,” Jungkook explained quickly to interrupt his best friend. Taehyung tilted his head and sighted. “I’m just… it’s stupid,” Jungkook said because his mood swings were stupid.
“Don’t say that,” Taehyung said and stepped closer. It was too much and Jungkook knew that. He knew that he needed to get distance between them. But it was so hard to keep the distance to Taehyung. It was so hard when he was looking like this at him. “You’re not stupid.”
Jungkook gulped hardly and that was when he felt the tears from welling up in his eyes. Taehyung noticed the change and immediately rushed forward to pull the younger into a tight hug. He wrapped his arms around Jungkook’s body and made the omega feel safe. Even if it was just for a moment but Jungkook felt safe. He didn’t think about Dasom and her crush on Taehyung. He didn’t think about his own complicated feelings for his best friend. For a moment it was just them and Jungkook enjoyed Taehyung’s presence.
“You don’t have to tell me what’s bothering you but please let me be there for you,” Taehyung said softly as he leaned away slightly. Jungkook sighted and nodded.
“I’m sorry. I… It’s not my day,” he said and felt tired all of a sudden.
“That’s okay. We don’t always need to be happy and overly excited for everything. It’s okay that you’re feeling sad sometimes. I do too but at the end of the day, we both know that there is this one person who makes us feel better with just being there,” Taehyung said and caressed Jungkook’s cheek.
The omega’s heart skipped a beat. Taehyung meant him. He knew it and he wanted to believe that it would be always like this.
“What do you say? Let’s skip the last classes and cuddle in your room? You look like you need some cuddles,” Taehyung said and Jungkook’s eyes lit up at that. The thought was so nice and he knew he wouldn’t deny it. Taehyung was right, Jungkook needed some cuddles and he needed them from his best friend.
“Yeah okay,” Jungkook said and a sweet smile appeared on his face.
The problem with Dasom’s crush was something he could think about later. When he wasn’t happy to be around Taehyung.
~~~
It was easy to forget about Dasom’s crush for Taehyung in the next few days. That was until the thing happened that Jungkook feared the most. It was when Jungkook and Taehyung were walking through the hallways with Jimin and Yoongi to get to the cafeteria because it was lunchtime when suddenly Dasom crossed their way.
“Hi guys,” she greeted them and acted a little bit nervous. Her voice was slightly trembling and Jungkook had a bad feeling that he wouldn’t like this what was about to happen.
“Hey, everything’s alright?” Taehyung asked. It was typical for him to act like a gentleman. Always caring about other students but that was exactly what Jungkook hated in this situation. Because of Taehyung’s gentleman nature, everyone was falling for him. As well as Dasom.
“Yeah, everything’s perfect,” she assured and took a deep breath. “There’s just one thing I need you to ask. It’s really important.”
Jungkook’s stomach dropped. He wanted to look away but he couldn’t turn his head away from the scene in front of him. It was what he was scared of the most and it was happening right here in front of his eyes.
“Okay? What’s the matter?” Taehyung asked, just as oblivious as ever.
Dasom seemed like she was fainting every second but she took another deep breath before she started to talk again. “It’s just that I really like you and I’m a little bit nervous because of this. You probably get confessions enough and I’m not an exception but here I am, trying to tell you that I have a tiny little crush on you and that I want to go out with you tomorrow. There’s a vernissage and my dad gets free tickets and because I have one left I thought why not asking you to join me tomorrow.” It was like the girl noticed that she was rambling because she was suddenly getting quiet and looked down at her feet. “I’m sorry, I should have asked you if you’re free tomorrow.”
Jungkook’s heart dropped and his chest tightened. Tomorrow was Friday. It was their weekly movie night which they never skipped since they invented the tradition. They even had their movie night when Jungkook had the flu or when Taehyung had his wisdom teeth removed. Their movie night was special to the both of them and it hurt his heart that Dasom chose this day for her date with Taehyung. Maybe it wouldn’t have hurt that much if it was a Saturday or even a Sunday but not a Friday.
Taehyung seemed to know this as well because he looked over at Jungkook. “Actually… Me and Jungkookie have this movie night every…”
“He’s free tomorrow!”
Jungkook had no idea why he said this and how he was able to talk right now but there he was, giving them his permission to have the date on the exact day as their weekly movie night and letting them skip it for the first time in years. “I mean we have this stupid movie night every week. You should go on a nice date and enjoy each other’s company. There aren’t many movies left we haven’t seen so far.”
It surprised Jungkook how easy he was able to say these words even though every single one of the words hurt him even more. Jungkook hurt himself.
To be honest, he saw that coming. Jungkook knew that at some point in the future this would happen. Taehyung would find a nice omega with whom he would spend a nice life. Without Jungkook. It caused the tears to well up in the younger’s eyes but he stayed strong in that moment. He decided that he wouldn’t show his pain to Taehyung nor Dasom.
“Oh… so if that’s the case we can got to the vernissage together,” Dasom immediately said and a bright smile appeared on her face. Jungkook couldn’t look at this any longer. He turned around and left the spot without looking back. He wanted to get away quickly.
Even though he had still one lesson after the lunch break, Jungkook decided to skip it for today. He wouldn’t have been able to focus on the lecture anyway and he also wasn’t in the mood to eat lunch with his friends in the cafeteria. So, Jungkook left the school and was about to call his mother when someone put their hand on his shoulder.
Jungkook startled and turned around but instead of the person he wanted to see the most, he saw Jimin in front of him. “How are you?” the other omega asked. The bad thing for Jungkook was that everyone knew about his stupid little crush on Taehyung. Well, it wasn’t that little anymore.
“I’m fine,” Jungkook croaked. He noticed just now that his voice was too quiet as well and the tears also escaped from the corners of his eyes. Jungkook couldn’t hide his pain any longer. Not when Jimin knew about his heartbreak right now.
“You’re not and please don’t try to convince me otherwise,” Jimin said with a serious tone in his voice.
Jungkook shook his head and looked down on the floor. “It hurt so much. Why does it hurt so much?”
Jimin sighted and hugged the younger tightly. “You know, if you would be honest with Taehyung none of this would’ve happened.”
“Oh yeah?” Jungkook leaned away quickly. “You mean that he wouldn’t fall in love eventually in the future? What am I supposed to do? To chain him on me for the rest of our lives just because I’m in love with him and don’t want to share him with anyone else?”
“No but maybe he would finally realize…”
“Just… forget it Jimin. I want to go home,” Jungkook shrugged it off and looked at his phone. He could call his mother to pick him up from school. He would just tell her that he had a bad headache and doesn’t want to stay for the last lecture.
“I’ll tell Yoongi so that he can drive you home if you want,” Jimin suggested and Jungkook felt relieved. He wouldn’t have an explaining to do by his mother. At least not why she was supposed to pick him up. Once Jungkook was at home he would just tell her that the last course wouldn’t take place today because their teacher had an emergency.
“Thank you,” Jungkook mumbled quietly and Jimin texted his boyfriend to ask him if he could drive Jungkook home.
A few minutes later, Yoongi came out of the school to drive Jungkook home. Jimin insisted to drive with them and he took place with Jungkook in the back to hold his hand in comfort. Jungkook had no idea why his friends were doing this to him right now but he wasn’t complaining. He needed the comfort right now and it was way better than going through this alone.
The ride back home didn’t take long and when Yoongi parked in front of Jungkook’s house, the younger omega felt like all the times when Taehyung was bringing him home after school or when they were together for the whole day but it also wasn’t like every other time with Taehyung. Because the alpha wasn’t here.
Jungkook looked at his phone and noticed the few missed calls from Taehyung and also a few messages. He decided to ignore them for now because Jungkook didn’t have the head to answer all of it. Taehyung surely wanted to know what was wrong with him and Jungkook couldn’t find an answer to that which wouldn’t include the truth about his feelings.
“Hey, if you don’t want to be alone, we can stay with you,” Jimin said softly but Jungkook shook his head. He knew that his friend meant it only good for him but he couldn’t deal with their overprotective side right now. Jungkook wanted to be alone for a while.
“Thank you for being here for me but I kinda want to be by myself right now,” Jungkook answered and gulped hardly. Maybe his behaviour was childish but he couldn’t help himself. The heartbreak was real and he needed his time to heal.
“Alright but it you need someone don’t hesitate to call us,” Jimin said and squeezed his hand quickly.
“Yeah, I will,” Jungkook promised him. “And thank you, Yoongi Hyung, for bringing me home.”
“No problem, kid. Like Jiminie said, just call one of us if you don’t want to be alone anymore,” Yoongi said and Jungkook nodded. He had the best friends in the world. He wasn’t that close with them like he was with Taehyung but Jungkook wouldn’t want to miss anyone of them.
Once Jungkook was inside the house he heard his mother cooking in the kitchen. Because she would’ve noticed his red eyes from crying, Jungkook decided to stay outside and just tell her that he was at home because his teacher was sick.
“Sweetie, do you want to eat with me right now?” his mother asked him and was about to come out of the kitchen. So, Jungkook quickly moved away to the stairs so that she wouldn’t notice his sad mood.
“No thank you. I’m not hungry right now.”
And with that, Jungkook went upstairs to his room, closed the door and climbed into his bed where he just lied there for what felt like an eternity. After a while, tears were starting again to run down his cheeks. He obviously didn’t cry it all out. But crying also didn’t help. Jungkook couldn’t turn off his thoughts for one time and so, all he could think about was his best friend who was going on a date tomorrow. On their weekly movie night. And the worst thing was that Jungkook gave his permission to that.
~~~
The next day, Jungkook decided to stay at home. He told his mother that he had a bad headache and would prefer not to go to school and Mrs. Jeon was very understanding with her son and so she allowed him to stay at home.
“Your father and I will go on that wellness trip over the weekend though. Do you think we should stay at home? I mean I’m not so sure if I want to let you all alone for one weekend even though you’re sick,” Mrs. Jeon said and put her hand on Jungkook’s forehead.
But Jungkook quickly shook his head. “No, it’s your wedding anniversary trip. You should definitely go. And it’s not like I can’t call you if an emergency happens,” Jungkook explained. He wanted his parents to go on that trip. Mostly, because they deserve a relaxing weekend for once.
“Alright but I will call Mrs. Kim to ask if Taehyung could look at you over the weekend,” Jungkook’s mother said and Jungkook panicked for a moment. He couldn’t deal with Taehyung here. And besides that, Taehyung would go on that date with Dasom today. He didn’t have time anyway.
“No need to,” Jungkook quickly said to stop his mother from calling Mrs. Kim. “I already texted him yesterday and he’ll come over after school.” The lie went over his lips so easily but he felt bad after saying those words out loud. His mother would’ve understood. He should’ve told her about his heartbreak and the real reason he didn’t want to go to school but Jungkook didn’t because that would mean that his mother was even more worried.
“Okay,” she sighted. “Your father and I will head off soon. You want to come down?”
Jungkook nodded. He would say goodbye to his parents and then he would cuddle up inside his bed again to cry over his life.
The truth was, Jungkook didn’t exactly lie to his mother. He did text Taehyung yesterday but only to let him know that he didn’t need to worry about him. He explained why he left so suddenly, obviously Jungkook didn’t tell him it was about the date but because he wasn’t feeling well. But he also assured him that he didn’t need anyone to take care of him for the weekend.
Jungkook didn’t read the other messages Taehyung had sent him but that was okay for now. He would just read them another time.
Because Jungkook needed to distract himself from all the thoughts in his head, he decided to clean the house a little bit after his parents left for their wellness trip. He made the laundry and vacuumed the house until there was not a single bit of dust left.
In the afternoon, when Jungkook was cooking himself a tomato soup, he got a call from Seokjin. It was only a matter of time until he would call him. Seokjin was out of all of his Hyungs the one who was the most protective over Jungkook. Well, after Taehyung of course. But Seokjin was like an older brother to Jungkook. The brother he never had.
“Hey Hyung,” Jungkook greeted his friend when he picked up the call.
“Jungkookie! I heard what happened yesterday,” Seokjin said. He came straight to the point. Maybe that was why Jungkook liked him so much. Seokjin never talked a lot around the topic. He was always straightforward and wanted to know what was going on. “How are you?”
Jungkook sighted and stirred in his soup. It was almost hot enough for him to eat. “Hyung… I… It hurts,” Jungkook finally said. It was useless to lie to Seokjin. His oldest Hyung always knew exactly how Jungkook was feeling and that the situation hurt him more than he admitted out loud. Jungkook was hurt and he needed to let it all out.
“It’s your movie night today, right?” Seokjin asked careful.
“Yeah,” Jungkook answered, his voice quieter now than before. “I think that’s what hurt the most. I mean it’s all my fault because I gave him the permission to go on that stupid date with her on our movie night but that still doesn’t mean that I don’t feel hurt about it.”
It felt good to talk freely about this. Jungkook was scared at first that it would hurt even more but it was like a weight fell off from his chest after saying that it hurt him so much that Taehyung went on that date the exact same day as their weekly movie night.
“I mean it’s your right to feel like this. You’re in love with him for what? Since you were in 6th grade?”
“I know about my feelings since we got presented,” Jungkook explained.
“Yeah but you can’t tell me that you didn’t have a crush on him before as well. I mean we all saw you. You were really obvious. You both were.”
“Hyung stop,” Jungkook quickly said. He couldn’t risk his hopes get higher because of that.
“What? It’s true. Taehyung loves you just as much as you love him. This man is crazy over you and a little bit oblivious,” Seokjin reminded the younger omega.
“Just… let it go, okay? I know that Taehyung just loves me as a best friend,” Jungkook said and gulped hardly.
“Oh, come on! He loves you and we both know that. How do you feel about telling him, hm? You’re scared that your true feelings for him would change your friendship and what if I tell you that he’s surely as much scared as you? You two are the biggest idiots I know but okay. You’re hurt today and I don’t want to make you feel worse,” Seokjin decided to stop his rant now.
Jungkook stayed silent. He had heard this type of rant from his friends more than enough in the past but he never believed them. He couldn’t risk getting his hopes too high. His heart wouldn’t take this forever. Especially now when he’s suffering from heartbreak.
“Hey, if you want, me and the others can come over tonight. I know tonight is supposed to be your weekly movie night with Taehyung and I know you well enough that you would curl yourself up in your bed and cry your eyes out because you never skipped the movie night before. Let us be there for you, okay?”
It was really sweet of Seokjin, Jungkook had to admit but he kinda wanted to be alone tonight. He couldn’t bear his overprotective Hyungs tonight. “Honestly, I’d rather want to be alone,” Jungkook said and hoped that Seokjin would get it.
“Oh no, my friend. That’s not for discussion. You’d cry yourself to sleep tonight and we definitely won’t let that happen. We’re coming over…” Seokjin paused for a moment, probably to look on his watch. “We’re coming over at half past eight, alright? You won’t be alone tonight, that’s for sure.”
Jungkook’s eyes watered again, he couldn’t bring out any words except a quiet “Thank you” before they hung up the call.
Afterwards, Jungkook finished his tomato soup and began to eat it bit by bit but he soon didn’t feel hungry anymore. Knowing what his best friend would do today made his stomach sick. Dasom was such a lucky girl to get the chance to go on a date with Taehyung. Jungkook wasn’t blaming her. She was only falling for his charm and in the end, she was braver than himself and asked Taehyung out.
The thought made the tears falling down on Jungkook’s cheeks again but he quickly gulped. He needed to distract himself. So, he decided to take a nice bubble bath with some nice oils that would heal his soul. Tonight, Jungkook wanted to spoil himself. He deserved this.
In the bathroom, Jungkook filled the bathtub with water and while it’s starting to get filled, he went to the kitchen to get him some fruits. Jungkook also thought about taking a glass of wine with him but he decided not to. Alcohol wouldn’t be good in his situation right now.
Then, when the bathtub was filled, Jungkook undressed himself and stepped inside. He played some soft music to relax himself and for a while he succeeded. He put the thoughts of Taehyung and Dasom in the back of his head and just enjoyed the moment. It was quite a while since he last took a nice and relaxing bath.
When his skin slowly got wrinkled from the water and the water itself got colder, Jungkook decided that it was enough and stepped out of the bathtub. With a look on his phone he also noticed that it was already eight p.m. and he should get dressed before his friends would come over. Jungkook still couldn’t believe that he had such perfect friends. They were his everything.
As soon as Jungkook got fully dressed again in some sweatpants and an oversized hoodie from Taehyung, he went back to his room and took out his phone. Without thinking, he clicked on the Instagram app and it opened. Right before he wanted to start with scrolling down the posts, he saw that Dasom posted a story. His heart hurt him but he clicked on it. The stalker inside of him needed to know if they were having fun on their date.
The story included three pictures. The first one was a selfie of Dasom where she had her make up ready and as the caption, she had written “Getting ready for today”. Jungkook had to admit, that she was really pretty but that didn’t help him because it was easier that way for Taehyung to fall in love with her. The thought made him want to cry again.
The next picture was taken in a restaurant. Dasom had made a picture of her plate and as the caption she wrote “Yummy”. On the upper edge of the picture Jungkook could see another plate. Taehyung’s plate and his heart sank. They were having a nice dinner before the vernissage. Jungkook couldn’t even stop the sob escaping his mouth and his hand immediately raised to press against his chest.
But Jungkook wanted to see the last post of Dasom’s Instagram story, even though it would break his heart. The last picture was posted ten minutes ago and they were already at the vernissage. Dasom made a picture of one of the paintings and didn’t write any caption to that. Jungkook didn’t know if he should be happy that she didn’t post any pictures of her and Taehyung or not. Actually, Jungkook didn’t want to see them having fun together but on the other side, he wanted to know if his best friend was happy. He needed to know if Taehyung enjoyed this date.
Jungkook couldn’t hold back the tears any longer and curled himself into a ball on his bed. Yes, that was exactly what Seokjin didn’t want to happen but Jungkook couldn’t help himself. After seeing Dasom’s Instagram story, the pain washed over him again and it was too hard for him to accept the fact that they were having fun and maybe fall in love with each other.
The sound of the doorbell made Jungkook flinch. For a moment, he was a bit paralyzed. Should he open the door like that? But then he reminded himself that his friends knew him well enough and he didn’t have to be ashamed of himself looking like that.
Jungkook got up and right when he was about to go down the stairs the doorbell rang again. “Yeah, yeah I’m coming,” he shouted, even though it sounded so broken with his hoarse voice from crying. Jungkook made his way towards the door and opened it. But got shocked the next second.
There weren’t his friends in front of him to comfort him.
It was Taehyung and he had his hand raised to ring the doorbell another time.
Jungkook was shocked. From all the people he knew he expected Taehyung the last to be here in front of his door. Wasn’t he supposed to be on a date with Dasom?
“Junkookie,” Taehyung sighted and Jungkook noticed the pain in the elder’s voice.
Before Jungkook could say anything, Taehyung moved forward and wrapped his arms tightly around the younger boy. He hugged him as if his life depended on it and Jungkook couldn’t deny that he loved the embrace. He melted into the hug and nestled his head in the crook of Taehyung’s neck. Even though it would hurt him later but now he needed it.
“Aren’t you on a date with Dasom?” Jungkook mumbled after a while. He actually didn’t want to know but he needed to ask. Why was Taehyung here when Dasom just posted an Instagram story from the vernissage?
“I couldn’t go,” Taehyung answered right away causing Jungkook to lean away. He widened his eyes in confusion and had no idea what that meant. Jungkook just saw the Instagram story and there were two plates on that picture in the restaurant.
“What?” Jungkook asked confused.
“I… can we go to your room? I think we need to talk about some things,” Taehyung said and looked a little bit nervous all of a sudden. Jungkook panicked on the inside.
“But… Jin Hyung and the others will come over in a bit,” Jungkook tried to get out of the situation. He was scared that it would be a bad thing that Taehyung wanted to talk with him.
“I know,” Taehyung said. “But I told them that they’re not needed anymore because I’m coming over. I’m sorry but we never invited someone else over to our movie nights.”
Jungkook blinked a few times before he realized what Taehyung just said and then his heart started to beat faster inside his chest. Their movie night. Jungkook didn’t think that they would have a movie night today because of the date. He was more than confused.
“I can see that you have a lot of questions so please, let’s go to your room and we can talk about everything okay? I promise you, it’s nothing bad,” Taehyung assured him as if he knew that Jungkook had thought about the worst scenarios.
A soft smile appeared on Taehyung’s lips when Jungkook nodded and they quickly got upstairs. It was true. Jungkook had a lot of questions and he wanted to know some answers now. It was all so confusing to him. It seemed like Taehyung wasn’t on that date with Dasom but who was with her? She definitely was on that vernissage. Jungkook saw that on her Instagram story. But why didn’t Taehyung want to go?
Finally in Jungkook’s room, they settled down on the omega’s bed. Taehyung turned to face Jungkook and took his hands in his own. The younger’s heart pumped a little bit faster in his chest at the skin contact and after the most precious smile appeared on Taehyung’s face, Jungkook was sure his heart would jump out of his chest any minute.
“What do you want to talk about?” Jungkook asked quietly. He was a little bit nervous what that would mean for them as friends but since Taehyung assured him a few minutes ago that it was nothing bad what he wanted to say, Jungkook was a little bit more calm than he would usually be.
Taehyung took a deep breath, looked down at their hands and then looked up to look Jungkook in the eyes again. “Okay first of all, I heard you yesterday.” Taehyung admitted and Jungkook frowned his forehead.
Where did Taehyung hear him? He was a little bit confused because he had no idea what Taehyung meant. But then he remembered. Was it possible that Taehyung was there when Jungkook talked with Jimin about how much he was in love with his best friend? Did Taehyung overhear their conversation. “Oh my God,” Jungkook whispered, pulled away his hands to bury his face in there. He was so embarrassed.
But Taehyung reacted quickly and took away the omega’s hands from his eyes. He softly took them into his own again and forced Jungkook to look at him. “No,” Taehyung said with so much tenderness in his voice that Jungkook wanted to cry. “Please don’t hide yourself. I want to look at your pretty face while saying all the things to you that are on my mind lately. I mean, I was confused at first as well but now I know. Now, I realized.”
Jungkook breathed out shakily and gulped. “What do you know?” Jungkook wanted to know. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to find out what Taehyung realized.
The smile on Taehyung’s face got wider and he shifted closer. “That I’m not able to continue this friendship any longer,” Taehyung confessed which made Jungkook widen his eyes.
The omega immediately turned away, pulled away his hands and couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down his face. “If you don’t want to be friends with me anymore why did you say that it’s nothing bad at first? Why did you torture me even more? I even accidentally humiliated myself in front of you with admitting that I’m in love with you. What else do you want now?”
“You!” Taehyung quickly answered and it was like the world had stopped in that moment.
Jungkook froze and so did his thoughts. He had no idea what Taehyung just said and what that meant for him and them. What was it that Taehyung wanted to tell him?
“What?” Jungkook breathed out and turned around.
“I want you. I want to be with you,” Taehyung explained with the softest look on his face. Jungkook’s eyes were red from the tears but he couldn’t care less at that moment. Did he hear right? Taehyung shifted closer and took the younger’s face in his hands. “You are the most important person in my life. Maybe I was feeling like this for a while now but I never really realized that you are so much more to me than a friend. You are the person I want to share with everything. The good things and the not so good things. You were always there for me and I don’t want to miss you for the rest of my life. Because, Jungkookie, I love you at least just as much as you love me.”
Jungkook’s heart skipped a beat. Did he hear right? Did Taehyung really just tell him that he’s in love with him? Jungkook was shocked and his heart was starting to race again in his chest as if he’d just ran a marathon. What was that supposed to mean? Did Taehyung want to be his boyfriend?
“What?” Jungkook asked what felt for the hundredth time this day because he couldn’t understand and process everything. How was that possible?
“I love you, Jeon Jungkook,” Taehyung confessed and leaned in. He stopped a few inches in front of Jungkook’s face and looked him deeply in the eyes. Jungkook could see the mole on Taehyung’s eyelid clearly and that was made his heart beat faster. They were so close and if he would lean in then their lips would meet. “I want to kiss you,” Taehyung whispered.
Jungkook’s heart stopped in that moment. He felt like he was living his dream and he would wake up any moment. How many times did he picture this scene in his mind? How many times did he wish that this would come true? And now, he would finally know how it would feel to have Taehyung’s lips on his own.
“Then kiss me,” Jungkook replied, also whispering.
Their lips met and it was like an explosion of colours. Jungkook wasn’t prepared for the moment when Taehyung closed the distance between their lips but when he did he felt like he was on cloud nine. There was nothing to compare with this. Jungkook had never had felt so much feelings at once. He stopped thinking for the moment because right now, the one thing happened that he always wanted to feel.
Taehyung’s lips were so soft. They melted against Jungkook’s lips as if they always belonged there. And in that moment Jungkook wanted to believe exactly this. Though he was always a little bit pessimistic about telling Taehyung about his feelings, he wanted to be selfish and admit that he and Taehyung always belonged with each other.
It was Jungkook who broke the kiss to catch a breath. It surprised him that he got out of breath during their little kiss but it wasn’t like Jungkook had any experiences with kissing. This was his first one after all. It made him a little bit nervous but judging Taehyung’s facial expressions, he would say that he made everything right.
At first, Jungkook felt like it was a little bit awkward. He didn’t know what to say after the kiss. Were they boyfriends now? Was he supposed to say anything? But all of his thoughts came to an end when Taehyung smiled at him with the most beautiful smile Jungkook had ever seen on him.
Jungkook returned the smile and felt relieved. All those feelings he had held inside of him were now revealed and he couldn’t be happier. Taehyung made him so happy.
“So, you love me?” Jungkook asked. At the same time he felt like an idiot. Why did he say that? Of course, Taehyung did. He just said it.
But Taehyung laughed wholeheartedly and nodded. “Yeah, I do love you. Always have and always will.”
Jungkook’s heart busted at those words. He wanted to hear them over and over again for the rest of his life. Taehyung had always been his safe place. The one where he could be himself and now that he knew that his best friend returned his feelings, it was like a dream came true.
“Okay… so, that makes us to…”
“I want you to be my boyfriend, Jungkookie,” Taehyung interrupted him softly and Jungkook’s eyes widened. “I want you to be my boyfriend now and in a few years I want you to be my mate. I want to grow old with you. I want to raise pups with you. I want to make you feel special for the rest of your life because you are so special to me and you should feel like it. I love you, Jungkook. Please be mine.”
The omega didn’t know that he had started crying again but this time they were only happy tears. Jungkook nodded and moved forward to get into the elder’s arms. Taehyung took him in his embrace and for a while they sat here and enjoyed each other’s company in silence.
“What did Dasom say when you told her that you don’t want to go on that date?” Jungkook asked. He was always like this. Always worried about the others. Especially when Dasom was so nice to him in the last few weeks. He befriended with her and as a friend he was worried about her feelings too.
“I never gave her an answer to be honest. After you walked away I quickly apologized to her and followed you and then I heard you and Jimin talking where you said that you were in love with me. I never wanted to go on that date to begin with but after I heard you talking to Jimin I knew that it was impossible. So, I searched for Dasom and explained her everything. She told me that she already thought that there was something between us but she wasn’t sure. But no, if you want to know if she was sad, then I can tell you she isn’t. She wished us her best luck,” Taehyung told Jungkook what happened after he left the hallway yesterday.
All of a sudden, Jungkook felt stupid for acting like he did yesterday. If he would’ve waited a little bit longer, he would’ve known what really was going on. But he was so hurt that he didn’t want to stay there any minute longer. “I feel so stupid,” Jungkook admitted embarrassed about himself and buried his face into Taehyung’s chest.
Taehyung turned the omega’s head so that they could face each other. “Don’t say that, Baby.” At the petname, Jungkook’s heart made a flip. “Everything’s okay.”
Jungkook sighted and snuggled closer to Taehyung again. “I love you,” Jungkook sighted. Taehyung just smiled and pressed a kiss on the younger’s head. It was beautiful. Their story was beautiful and it would still be beautiful in the future when they were older and have children.
Jungkook couldn’t wait to see what the future prepared for them and their friends. But for now, he was happy and wanted to enjoy every second with Taehyung as his boyfriend.
***********
Part Three
10 years later
“Please stay still, princess,” Jungkook begged the little girl as she was shifting at her seat the whole time while Jungkook wanted to braid her hair but Hana was a little bit too excited. “Or else we’re late for uncle Jimin’s and uncle Yoongi’s wedding.”
The little girl’s doe eyes widened and she turned her head around which caused Jungkook to groan because he failed again to braid her hair. How was it possible that his daughter had so much energy? The little girl was only two years old but she was already ruling the world. Or well, her parents’ world.
“Everything okay with the two of you?” Taehyung came into the room with Hana’s twin sister Nari on his arm. He looked at his mate with his head tilted and smiled amused when he saw Jungkook struggling to braid their one daughter’s hair. In the meanwhile, Taehyung had Nari’s hair done which was much easier than doing Hana’s hair because the other twin girl was the calmer one.
“Yeah, I think we’re ready in a bit,” Jungkook said, turning Hana’s head around so that he can finally finish her braids and sighted relieved when he finished her hair finally.
The twin girls were their everything and he would never want to change his life for anything. His family was his whole world to him and Jungkook was so proud of his two little girls. The last few years were tough. Especially when he was in his last year in high school. But Jungkook had always Taehyung by his side and on the other way around, Taehyung knew he always had Jungkook’s back if something would happen.
They loved each other with all their hearts and now, ten years after they got together, they loved each other still like they did on the first day. Maybe even more because they got to know each other better in their relationship. Jungkook never wanted to miss a single day without his mate and his twin girls by his side. They were his family and he was so glad to have them.
And later at the wedding when Jungkook sat next to Taehyung and watched Hana and Nari walking down the aisle as Jimin’s and Yoongi’s flower girls, Jungkook’s heart almost busted in happiness. He couldn’t hold back his tears as he saw his daughters in their cute little dresses and their cute baskets full with flower petals.
When Jungkook watched over to Taehyung, he felt the elder’s thumbs wiping away the tears as he smiled back at him. Jungkook could see the same love and adoration in Taehyung’s eyes and he knew that it always was supposed to be like this. They were meant to be together in every lifetime.
Forever and always.
THE END
