“Peter did you see it yet?” Neal asked, grinning from ear to ear as he interrupted the agent’s breakfast.
Elizabeth hid her own grin and moved to get another bowl even as Peter unsuccessfully attempted to take his sugary sweet cereal away from Neal. She knew what Neal was referring to but hadn’t yet told her husband, unsure how he would take it. Probably with a roll of his eyes and pursing of his lip, she decided.
“Neal, it’s Saturday,” Peter said gruffly, between bites. “It’s a Caffrey free day.”
“Actually Peter, it’s not! It’s better!”
Narrowing his eyes, Peter put down his spoon. “What are you talking about? Are you up to something? What shenanigans are you and the little man up to now?!”
The picture-perfect look of innocence, Neal ignored Peter, his excitement not to be derailed by Peter being his typical curmudgeon self. “Guess what day it is?!”
With a snort, Peter resumed eating. “Don’t know. Don’t care.”
“It’s Caffrey-Burke Day!” Neal blurted.
“Excuse me? It’s what?”
“Caffrey-Burke Day,” Neal repeated. “Fans have written stories and even created a video dedicated to us! Our own day, Peter!”
“You’re kidding!” Peter said, not believing Neal. Though his partner did have the same obnoxious air he had when he had learned of Professor Oswald’s week-long inclusion of Neal Caffrey into his curriculum.
“Well, what do you have to say about that?” Neal asked eager to hear Peter’s thoughts on the matter.
Peter’s brow furrowed as he gave serious consideration to what Neal had told him. On the one hand, fans still caring enough to write about them was not to be taken lightly. It meant what they had accomplished had hit a mark, had meant something to them. And that was something he and Neal could be proud of. But he did have one major issue…
“I think it’s not right.” Neal looked crushed. Then with a twinkle in his eye, Peter stated simply, “Clearly it should be Burke-Caffrey Day.”
