Eiko - 7
Kuroo woke to the feeling of a feather light touch, tracing up and down the slopes and divots of his body like it was trying to memorize every single little detail for later. A tiny smile began to curl up the corners of his lips. He would have pretended to stay asleep for longer just so he could bask in all of the attention being given to him, but he would much rather see Kenma’s face.
Pushing the pillow squished over his head to the side, Kuroo rolled onto his side so he could fully face his boyfriend now. They hadn’t properly closed the blinds last night which was probably why Kenma was up so early in the first place, but he wasn’t complaining since it cast a warm golden glow over his features. Kenma squinted at him through the sun and smiled softly.
Kuroo grinned and pressed a light kiss against his lips, pulling back and murmuring, “Hi.”
“Hi, Kuro,” Kenma laughed softly, going back to skating his fingers over his body now that he had new areas to map out.
“Having fun?” Kuroo asked, watching Kenma in amusement.
Kenma let out a little hum of confirmation, a tiny smile beginning to play at his lips. Kuroo just couldn’t help himself and leaned down for another kiss. Kenma made a sound of content against his lips and brought his hand up to cup the side of his face.
“You need to shave,” He murmured against his lips.
Kuroo huffed out a breath of laughter and thumbed over Kenma’s jawline, feeling the spiky stubble that was beginning to grow in there. “Says you.”
Kenma opened his mouth to say something, but got interrupted by a loud thud coming from down the hallway. “I was wondering when she would wake up.” Kenma smiled fondly.
Kuroo laughed and rolled off of the bed, heading towards the bathroom, Kenma joining him not long after. Figuring he might as well get it out of the way since he was here, Kuroo pulled out his shaving kit. Leaning in close to the mirror with a concentrated look on his face, Kuroo almost nicked himself when he jumped in surprise, seeing the newest addition in the bathroom.
“What are you doing?” Eiko asked curiously as if she hadn’t just made his life flash before his eyes.
“He’s shaving,” Kenma answered for him as he pulled out his own things to start shaving alongside him.
Eiko’s lips parted in awe, watching silently as they both shaved before eventually asking eagerly, “Can I shave too?”
Kuroo and Kenma shared a look of amusement in the reflection of the mirror.
“You don’t exactly have a beard Eiko,” Kuroo teased.
“No, no, I do! See!” Eiko exclaimed, making him crouch down so she could point at the peach fuzz on her face.
Kuroo laughed and picked her up, setting her down on the countertop. “I guess you do.”
Eiko grinned and swung her legs back and forth excitedly as he grabbed his shaving cream and rubbed it onto her cheeks, making her giggle uncontrollably when she looked in the mirror.
“Alright, hold still for me, okay?” Kuroo said, looking down at her in amusement as he held her chin gently and tilted it to the side, using the smooth side of a comb instead of a razor to swipe the shaving cream off of her face.
Eiko’s eyes were shut in content and she was humming softly to herself as Kuroo worked. A tiny grin started to pull at his lips. Catching movement over in the mirror, Kuroo glanced over at Kenma. He had long since finished shaving and was instead watching them leant up against the wall with a fond expression on his face. Kuroo shot him a wide grin and returned his attention to Eiko.
Eiko - 8
“Uncle Bokuto!” Eiko exclaimed loudly, body slamming so roughly into him for a hug that she, a tiny little eight year old, was able to knock a professional volleyball player off balance.
“Eiko!” Kuroo said in horror. “What have I said about calling him that? You’re going to make his ego too big!”
Eiko giggled and then looked over to Akaashi who was watching her and Bokuto fondly, asking sweetly, “What’s an ego?”
“It’s what makes Kuroo so unbearable,” Akaashi answered without missing a beat.
Kuroo let out a strangled sound of betrayal in the back of his throat when Eiko nodded along like that made sense.
“Kuro! You’re unbearable!” Eiko shouted before she started giggling uncontrollably.
“Eiko, love,” Kenma said, looking extremely entertained. “I don’t think that means what you think it means.”
“Oh,” Eiko said with her eyebrows furrowed together in thought. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Kenma said with an amused glint in his eyes.
Wrapping an arm around Kenma’s waist as Eiko ran off into the house with Bokuto and Akaashi, Kuroo pressed a kiss to his boyfriend’s temple.
“You’re unbearable,” Kenma said, tilting his head up so he could speak into his ear.
“Hey, you can’t say that!” Kuroo laughed in surprise.
“Yes, I can,” Kenma grinned playfully. “I know what it means.”
Hanging around the counter while he helped Akaashi get a start on lunch in the kitchen, Kuroo couldn’t help but keep glancing out into the backyard where everyone else was gathered. Bokuto was holding Eiko up in the air on one arm to show just how strong he was upon her insistence, making her shriek with laughter. And watching from the sidelines, Kenma was leant up against the house, wearing an amused expression on his face.
“Do you think you guys will ever want kids?” Kuroo asked curiously, noticing the way Akaashi’s eyes kept falling on Bokuto and Eiko as they messed around in the yard.
“Kuroo,” Akaashi said with a sigh, flicking his gaze away from his boyfriend and back to the food they were preparing again. “We aren’t even married yet.”
Despite his denial, he could tell that he was actually interested in the idea based on the hopeful shine that had appeared in Akaashi’s dark eyes. Kuroo also didn’t miss Akaashi’s use of yet either .
Eiko - 9
“Eiko! Careful with the boxes,” Kenma called out, stress lacing his tone as he watched his daughter try to balance two heavy boxes from the moving van into her arms.
“She’s fine,” Kuroo said, nudging his side playfully as he chided him. “I didn’t bring anything that breaks easily.”
Kenma seemed torn, but eventually relented with a heavy sigh and returned to helping Kuroo unpack all of the boxes he had brought from his old apartment from the van and onto the driveway.
It had been a long time coming, but he was finally moving in with Kenma and Eiko. Officially. He had basically already been living with them, hardly spending any time at his own place except for when he needed to grab more clothes or check that he hadn’t left old groceries in the fridge to turn into a battlefield of disgusting mold and bacteria.
He hadn’t even thought seriously about officially moving in with them ever and quite frankly, neither had Kenma. In the end it had been Eiko who had suggested it because apparently this little girl knew more about Kuroo than he knew about himself and was going to be making all of his life decisions from now on. Kuroo was honestly fine with that, she hadn’t failed him so far anyways.
They were about halfway done bringing all of his things into the house, but the sun was beating unbearably onto their necks as they worked, making it feel like his arms were lead and he was moving in slow motion as he attempted to lift another box.
“Hey, I’m going to go get water,” Kuroo called out to Eiko and Kenma who were hanging around the moving van. “Do you guys want some too?”
“Yes, please!” Eiko said loudly while Kenma gave a much less enthusiastic response and just gave him a tired thumbs up.
Kuroo huffed out a breath of laughter and stepped back into the house, sighing in relief as the air conditioning hit him. Filling up glasses of water by the sink, Kuroo heard the sound of tiny feet padding into the kitchen and smiled when Fluffy jumped up onto the counter and meowed expectantly up at him.
He hated to admit it, but she had grown on him. He was pretty sure that Fluffy was also slowly starting to chip away at Kenma’s walls too since he had caught them a handful of times now napping in the sun in the living room together with her curled up on his chest happily.
“Hi, pretty girl,” Kuroo cooed, stroking the cat underneath her wrinkly chin.
The sound of a box being dropped to the ground and its contents rattling around met his ears, startling him and Fluffy from their tiny bubble of peace.
“I knew you liked her!” Eiko shouted, pointing at him accusingly.
Kuroo paled. That was supposed to be a secret that went to the grave with him.
“Eiko, no, wait!” He blurted as he saw her eyes light up with an idea.
“Dad!” Eiko exclaimed mischievously before sprinting off to find him, leaving an echo in the hallway as she shouted eagerly, “Dad, guess what!”
Kuroo let his head loll back and groaned. Kenma was never going to let him live this down.
Eiko - 10
“Go, Eiko, go!”
Kenma laughed and elbowed him. “Stop that, you’re embarrassing her.”
Kuroo grinned cheekily at his boyfriend and then turned to face the court, zeroing in on Eiko as she got into position again. He was proud to see that she did in fact look a little embarrassed from all of his cheering as she and her team played, glancing every so often with a fierce blush on her face into the stands where they sat. He wasn’t too worried though about her, she still had a tiny pleased smile on her face.
Also, he firmly believed it was a right of passage to have an overly excited parent cheering you on in the stands until you felt like you might die of embarrassment in any sport.
The referee blew the whistle and the match resumed.
Kuroo and Kenma both instinctively leaned forward in their seats as the ball flew through the air.
Some might say they were getting a little too into the game since it was only the little leagues, but Kuroo didn’t really care. Not when he got to see how much fun Eiko was having on the volleyball court. And how she was absolutely crushing the other team. He might be biased though.
He was a little disappointed that Eiko hadn’t followed in his path of becoming a middle blocker, instead choosing to try for the libero position on the team. But once he had learned her reasoning for it, his heart had melted fondly. Eiko had said so proudly to him when he had asked that her favourite part of the game was receiving since he had taught her how and she wanted to be able to do it over and over again in the game.
The game was nearing a close with Eiko’s team in the lead by one point.
Kuroo smiled to himself in amusement when he glanced to the side and saw the proud gleam in Kenma’s eye as he watched his daughter play.
They both held their breath as the other team served the ball, sending it over the net in a high arc that stopped just before the net. Kuroo grimaced, they probably weren’t going to catch that in time.
But then he blinked in surprise when he saw a flash of a bright red uniform jersey, just barely catching Eiko’s number in time as she dove across the court, saving the ball from touching the ground just in time before it fell.
Kuroo grinned widely and cupped his mouth, shouting out proudly, “That’s my girl!”
This time instead of flushing in embarrassment, Eiko beamed under the praise, shooting him a peace sign as she ran back into position, making Kuroo and Kenma laugh.
Eiko - 11
Kuroo may or may not have cried through the entire wedding ceremony.
It wasn’t even his own, but being able to watch his undoubtedly lovestruck friends finally become married was doing things to him. And despite the tidal wave of emotions washing over him as he got to see Bokuto and Akaashi slip their wedding rings onto each other’s fingers, both wearing giddy smiles, he couldn’t help but grin uncontrollably wide for them.
“You’re such a sap,” Kenma whispered into his ear, wearing a tiny smile on his lips too.
Kuroo huffed out a breath of laughter and leaned down to peck him on the cheek, murmuring, “And you love it.”
“I do,” Kenma said, eyeing him fondly.
The rest of the wedding reception went by in a blur.
There was a surprising amount of the V. League attending the wedding which mildly amused Kuroo, watching as half of the guests openly ogled them. Kuroo had spent the majority of the night on the dance floor with Eiko, making an absolute fool of himself as they danced, and how he managed it he didn’t know, but he had somehow been able to convince Kenma to slow dance with him for a handful of songs. And at one point during the night, one Ushijima Wakatoshi had scooped Eiko up onto his insanely broad shoulders, carrying her around wherever she pleased with a tiny smile on his usually serious face.
As the night went on and the party guests slowly started to take their leave, Kuroo could barely stand on his feet. Sitting down at one of the tables, talking quietly with Kenma, he glanced over at Eiko who had gone uncharacteristically quiet and smiled fondly. Her head was pillowed in her arms and she could hardly keep her eyes open.
“Do you think we can go now?” Kenma asked, following Kuroo’s gaze to his half asleep daughter.
“Yeah, I don’t think they’ll mind,” Kuroo said, finding himself smiling involuntarily again when he looked over to Bokuto and Akaashi who were still on the dance floor, wrapped up in their own little world.
By the time they finally got home, Kuroo felt like he was going to drop dead from exhaustion. Helping a barely coherent Eiko out of the car, he hiked her up into his arms, draping her over his shoulder like she weighed nothing.
“Do you want help putting her in bed?” Kenma whispered as he unlocked the front door and stepped inside of the genkan.
Kuroo grinned and leaned down to kiss his forehead, whispering back, “Nope, I’m good. You can just go to bed, I’ll be there soon.”
Kenma nodded and disappeared down the hallway into their bedroom for the night. Repositioning Eiko on his shoulder so he wouldn’t drop her, Kuroo carefully walked over to her room and helped her into her pajamas, holding back an amused smile when she almost fell asleep standing up.
Figuring that in her current state there was absolutely no way in hell Eiko could manage to brush her teeth, Kuroo herded her over to her bed and helped her underneath the sheets, tucking them up to her chin just how she liked them.
Kissing her gently on the forehead, Kuroo murmured softly, “Goodnight, Eiko.”
Eiko hummed sleepily in response before tripping over her tongue to say, “Mm, goodnight Dad.”
Kuroo’s heart stopped. His mind exploded. His world tilted on its axis.
He dropped his head into the sheets and grinned so widely it hurt his cheeks. When he popped his head back up again, Eiko was already asleep. Kissing her on the head one last time before leaving, Kuroo quietly crept out of her bedroom, feeling like he was on top of the world.
Quietly shutting the door behind him, he finally registered that his cheeks were starting to feel wet.
Dad. Eiko had called him Dad. Dad!
Kuroo buried his face in his hands and made a pathetic little noise in the back of his throat as he felt his tears pour out of his eyes like a faucet.
He was so fucking happy.
Sniffling quietly, Kuroo wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and went to join Kenma in their bedroom. The second he entered the bedroom, Kenma dropped his phone onto the bedside table and turned to face him.
“Hey, guess-” Kenma stopped and looked at him in concern. “Kuro, are you okay? Why are you crying?”
Kuroo’s lip quivered and then he started crying even harder. Kenma immediately jumped off of his spot on the bed and hurried over to him, cupping his face gently. “Tetsurou, it’s okay. You’re okay.”
Kuroo nodded along in agreement and let Kenma lead him back over to the bed, curling in beside him.
“Tetsu, what’s wrong love?” Kenma murmured softly, thumbing over his tear stained cheeks.
Kuroo sniffled and then said, smiling so widely his eyes crinkled shut, “She called me Dad, Kenma.”
Kenma was silent for a moment, staring at him wide eyed in shock before he was bursting out in uncontrollable laughter. He leaned forward and kissed him affectionately.
“You’re such a baby,” He said in a mix of fondness and amusement, pressing another kiss to his lips as he tangled their limbs together even more and ran a hand through his messy hair.
“Shut up,” Kuroo sniffled as tears continue to stream down his face and then a moment later, “I love you.”
Kenma laughed and held him close as he cried, murmuring back, “I love you too.”
