A day worth remembering.

Summary:

As summer is set to begin, it also brings along Mitsuri Kanroji's eighteenth birthday along with it. And all of her friends want to pitch in to give her something special. This idea leads to a long day full of adventures. Though there are always small mistakes along the way.

Notes:

IM NEVER WRITING A ONE SHOT THIS LONG EVER AGAIN.

This fic will be my longest ever because I'm lazy.

Heads up. if you find a spelling mistake. No you didn't. shush.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

As the coming Saturday had marked the beginning of summer. The heat hadn't really kicked in for the day. The temperature was mild and filled with fluffy light gray clouds hinting at rain in the upcoming days ahead.

The morning was nice. Though there wasn't much time for a sleep in. Muichiro was woken up pretty early, where he began to craft his own gift.

He had a big day ahead of himself, he was going to his first (actual) birthday party! Well it was more of a celebration. He was being taken to the Rengoku residence for a sleepover but they were leaving his stuff there to go with his friends out to lunch with the Kanroji family and everyone else.

From there it seemed like Tengen had something planned for her as did Giyuu and Shinobu for after. Obanai had been planning the whole thing carefully.

So this morning was work, work, work!

First after breakfast Kokushibou had him set himself up with all of his homework. They worked together to get it done. Mainly Kokushibou talking to him every few minutes to re-ground him as well as helping him with any questions he didn't quite understand. His grandfather was super smart somehow. The best part was he didn't complain, or even say anything if Muichiro touched him, held onto him or leaned on him. Not even a word when he started messing with the hem of the man's shirt.

Because of this, work was finished quickly. They decided to skip personal homework today so Muichiro could work on his gift. Anyone who wasn't part of today's events plans had to bring something in for the birthday girl. But he needed some advice since the memory of her interests were fuzzy

Tiny Astronaut added Shrunken Severus Snape to the chat

Tiny Astronaut- @ Shrunken Severus Snape Do you know what Kanroji likes?

Shrunken Severus Snape- Why are you asking?

Tiny Astronaut- I don’t trust my memory and I want to be able to make her something nice.

-You seem to know her best so I trust your input in this the most.

There was a lack of response, so Muichiro decided to use that time to get out the stack of coloured papers his grandmother had given him a few days ago. As well as a book he borrowed from the library. It was only then did he get a notification back.

Shrunken Severus Snape- She likes traditionally cute things. So small items, cats, animals, pastel colours. Things like that. Literally look up ‘cute things’ online and you will have plenty of results.

Muichiro did just as told, looking up all sorts of things and quickly getting good ideas. Writing them down as fast as the thought came, on some sticky notes not to forget. He made sure to text Obanai once again before getting to work.

Tiny Astronaut- Thanks. I have some ideas now. It helped a lot.

Muichiro tossed his phone to his bed and looked over all the different things throughout the book, quickly getting ideas.

First he just needed to cut up some paper…

Muichiro was taken on the train with his great uncle at 9 AM to a different area of the city. The old man seemed a little tired having to wake up a bit earlier than normal for a weekend. He ignored any apologies Muichiro tried to give so the two sat in silence for the trip. The train this way wasn't very busy. Most would want to head into this city on such a fine weekend. As Muichiro sat on the plastic chairs he adjusted his hands on the small gift hidden in his palms, careful not to damage it.

“I’m sure she will like it. No need to worry.” Yoriichi wasn't the best with comfort as he looked away, only patting Muichiro’s head. The boy would normally be embarrassed, but it meant a lot coming from his typically quiet granduncle. When the train finally came to their stop Muichiro had to be pulled off the train for a second having fallen completely lost in thought.

When pushed out onto the train, coming back to himself a very loud bellow of laughter caught his ear. “Tokito! It's good to see you got here safely!” Kyojuro came running over with…

A mini version of himself?

Kyojuro had a smaller version of himself who stayed behind his side, hands behind his back. The older, or original clone, just smiled brighter at him and his great uncle. “I’m glad to see the trains were not too difficult. I hope you didn't have any trouble.” Rengoku bowed to Yoriichi. He was struggling to not take the old man's hand and talk his ear off about how much of an inspiration he is.

Yoriichi simply raised his hand. “I thank you for watching over him.” That's all Yoriichi said, bowing his head politely in return.

Muichiro had stated he wasn't a big talker. So Kyojuro almost wanted to scream when he talked to him. Senjuro certainly let out a gasp.

Rengoku waved a hand to dismiss the worry. “It’s a pleasure to have him. I promise I’ll watch over him for the events of today.” Kyojuro gave the old man the biggest smile he could, folding his arms and puffing his chest. He could hear his little brother sighing behind him, but either way the old man tilted his head a little, eyes relaxing at him. Kyojuro could tell he was happy.

“Thank you. Be sure to use Muichiro’s phone if anything happens and contact my brother. I will come retrieve him before work tomorrow.” Yoriichi pulled his eyes from the eldest Rengoku and patted his grandnephew on the head.

The two family members looked at each other for a moment, as if communicating with each other telepathically. Before Yoriichi went on his way to another train platform. They all watched him go up the stairs disappearing before they got back to business.

“It's so good to see you!” Rengoku cheered ruffling the boy’s hair who let out a whine from his throat closing his eyes. Pulling his closed cupped hands to his chest to protect its contents.

“I’m glad you could stay the night with us.” Kyojuro smiled, his brother coming out of hiding to join him by his side. Muichiro paused what he was going to say, staring at the younger.

“Rengoku, do you have a clone?” He pondered blinking a few times, almost like he was in shock. Kyojuro chose to ignore how pale he looked.

“Oh no! This is my younger brother Senjuro. He’s a third year in middle school.” Kyojuro patted the smaller on the back, knocking him over a little but he smiled. The siblings looked almost identical to each other. Though Senjuro had all of his hair up in a ponytail. Even their hair was almost identical, though the younger sibling didn't seem to have as defined red tips like his brother.

Maybe it comes with age?

He was also a lot smaller and skinnier than his older brother too. Probably only a few centimetres smaller than Muichiro. He had a much more frail frame and came off as a lot shyer. And was he sweating?

“You must be Tokito right?” The younger asked, snapping Muichiro out of staring directly at him. The black haired teen blinked but nodded at him.

“Yes. I’m a first year student.” He muttered, looking away from the boy and down at the ground, blinking a second. Mini Rengoku reminded him of something but he couldn't place what. Best to ignore it.

“Oh so you're only a year older. That's good!” Senjuro tried to make small talk, smiling just like his brother but the other didn't look up from where he was staring at the ground. It seemed to dishearten the boy so Kyojuro spoke up.

“Don't worry about him too much, he’s just like that.” He whispered to his brother before placing a hand on his young friend's back. “Come. let's take you back to our place. We can put your stuff down and get ready for lunch since it's still a few hours away.”

Muichiro only nodded, staring at his hands hoping it wasn't ruined from all the shaking or his sweat. “What do you have there?” Senjuro asked again, trying to start a conversation with the boy. After all he would be one of the two people he would actually know in high school next year.

Kanao was too scary, so she didn’t count.

“It’s a surprise.” Was all the boy said, not looking up from his hands. Starting at them as he could feel the heat inside them building. It was strange but it did leave him worried about the content inside.

“Is it Mitsuri’s gift?” Kyojuro asked while he guided the teen down the streets after they were out of the subway. There was a little nod but he was still rather unresponsive. The two of them couldn't tell if he was dissociating or not.

Senjuro gave his brother a worried look, the other just shrugged with his usual smile. The smaller furrowed his brow at his brother's antics.

They stayed in silence for the middle teen and made their way back to the house. Muichiro would peek into his hands as if something was living in there. Or at least something worth checking on. Whatever it was, it was clearly important to him.

The teen just seemed off in his own world to the other two. Not responding, if he nudged him he would gaze up at them a moment before going back to staring at the footpath again.

It was almost a robotic motion. It was like he had a mental timer of when to check his hands too. The brothers found it a bit strange. Senjuro bit his lip not wanting to ask though, he almost let out a physical sigh of relief when he saw their house.

When they got inside both of them kicked off their shoes at the ganken. “So do you have everything you need to stay at Aoi’s tonight?” Kyojuro asked as the two of them stepped up on the wooden floors. Muichiro was now glaring at the ground in thought, they figured it was best to just let him be. The brothers just went to get everything ready for Senjuro.

The younger brother would be attending the Kanroji lunch as Mitsuri and her parents saw him as a part of the family. From there, the younger brother would take the train to his friend Aoi’s house.

She was the closest thing the boy had to a friend as she needed help organising her notes. Well that's what she claimed. Kyojuro didn't push. As long as the Kanzaki’s were willing to have him stay the night, that's all that mattered.

Right now Kyojuro was going through Senjuro’s list in his little brother's clean room. They both had to keep their rooms practically sparkling for their father. However, both boys jumped when there was a third noise in the house. It was so subtle both of them weren’t sure if they heard it. It sounded as if something light had fallen and scattered out. It caught both boys by surprise because they had almost completely forgotten Muichiro was even here for a second.

The two of them looked at each other, nodding their heads before making their way out of the bedroom. The door led out to the hall where they could see Muichiro straight down just by the front door, a few steps away from the ganken. Their worry only continued to grow.

Muichiro was standing in the middle of the entrance of the house, facing the kitchen. Staring down at himself, his breathing was racing. He looked terrified as he observed his hands, slowly turning them over while he trembled. Tears filled his eyes threatening to spill.

Senjuro was about to run over, wanting to ask the scared older teen what was wrong. He didn't like to see anyone look so upset or distressed about anything. Senjuro could feel his own tears starting too. However before he could lunge himself at the other, his older brother placed a hand on his shoulder getting his attention.

“Brother what?” Senjuro wasn't sure what to do, trying to rub away his stress tears. He didn't really understand why Kyojuro wouldn't let him help.

Before Senjuro could ask any questions in his panic, Kyojuro gently shushed him, a finger placed to his own lips. The eldest Rengoku rubbed his brothers back for a second to sooth him before he spoke up. “Look at the ground for me Senjuro.” He instructed kindly, waiting for his younger brother to calm down before doing what was asked.

There on the ground laid a large array of small bits of pastel coloured paper spread across the floor. Some even scattered as far as just at their feet. Carefully Senjuro kneeled down picking one up to get a better look at them. Where his eyes lit up.

They were tiny paper stars, no bigger than his finger nail.

“What are these?” Senjuro asked, holding it up for his brother to have a look. Kyojuro was also a bit confused about where they came from and why they were everywhere.

Looking at Muichiro again, he could see a small paper box made of pink and green coloured paper was dropped on the floor, the lid spilled open. He could quickly figure out what was going on and knelt down. “Senjuro. Help me pick these up.” He called, plucking paper stars off the ground one by one into his free hand.

His little brother behind him nodded, using his shirt like a pouch to put each one in and waddling on both feet across the floor to reach them all. Kyojuro poured his handful of tiny paper stars into his brother's shirt and went to Muichiro’s side once the two of them had cleared a path.

“Tokito?” He called out softly, taking the teens hands in hopes that would get the kid’s attention. He seemed to pause, his breathing only quickening. When Kyojuro saw his eyes widen in fear he quickly let go and kneeled down instead. Getting himself in the boy's view for his attention.

Muichiro stared down at him, his body only trembling more. His breathing struggled to calm but his eyes were focused on him now. “Hey Tokito, you with us?” Kyojuro asked gently, he could feel his brother watching them but didn't look away from his friend in need.

Slowly Muichiro shook his head no. “It’s… It’s foggy, I can't calm down.” He was a stuttering mess, struggling to talk while so out of breath.  When Kyojuro held out a hand for him again, only offering it to the boy this time. Muichiro pulled his hand away, shaking his head no, rapidly.

“It’s ok, I don't have to touch you if you don't want to. That's alright. Um… ok, how about you try breathing with me?” He offered but the teen only looked distressed nodding weakly.

Kyojuro had no idea what he was doing, but hoped this would at least work for the boy's hyperventilation. If he could get Muichiro to calm down, maybe they could figure out what was wrong. “In… Out... In… Out… It’s ok, I just need you to think about this.” The teen looked almost in pain, but he did as told. His breathing calmed a bit, as did his trembling.

“Would you like a drink of water?” Senjuro spoke up while he was filling the paper box back up with the stars off to the side of them. Giving the two older teens some space and staying out of the way.

The two looked over to him, though Muichiro seemed to follow Kyojuro’s lead. He stared at the younger Rengoku, scaring him a little with the silence. “You don't have to of course, it was only an offer. I'm sorry, I really shouldn't have interrupted you two. That was really rude of me, I'll be quiet now-”

“Water sounds nice. With ice… please.” Muichiro said softly, staring more at the ground, starting to rub his hands and arms, feeling them over, continuing to follow Kyojuro’s guidance on breathing.

The youngest of the group lit up, nodding and basically ran into the kitchen, almost slipping on the turn around the island making Kyojuro laugh. “Careful brother!”

“I am, I promise!” The younger called back, as he hurried through the kitchen getting a plastic Doraemon cup. The image of the blue cat and his friends was peeling off with age. There was even a dent in the hard blue plastic cup.

Senjuro quickly returned with the cup filled with a few ice cubes and water from a jug in the fridge. Both he and his brother wanted to avoid the clutter in the sink. Senjuro held it out like it was some kind of offering to a god, a proud smile on his face.

Muichiro’s hands weren't as shaky anymore as one hand gently took the cup. The boys watched, not sure what he was going to do. What they definitely didn't expect was for Muichiro to shove his hand into the glass spilling water on the hardwood floor. The middle teen held the ice in a death grip like he was trying to compress the two cubes in his hands. They could only watch the boy as he slowly stared at his red trembling hand taking a deep breath closing his eyes.

“Did I do something wrong?” Senjuro asked quietly, joining his brother's side.

“I don't really know, Senjuro. You just go finish double checking you have everything. I think Tokito will be ok for now. He looks like he is doing a lot better. I'll work on getting him setup. Don't you worry.” He patted his brother on the back and his little brother smiled nodding, wiping away the last of his stress tears returning to his own room.

After Senjuro left, Kyojuro gave him a moment before asking “You feeling better now?” He asked, watching the teen open his eyes looking at him. A lot more reactive, that's good.

“A bit. I think I'm good now. Sorry about the mess.” Muichiro muttered looking down at the water by his feet and drank the water in the cup, not letting go of the ice in his hand.

Kyojuro chose not to comment, he was sure there must have been a reason. So he calmly walked them to his bedroom. “It’s no problem. Here. You can sleep in my room. Or if you want to stay in Senjuro’s room.”

“Oh no, I wouldn't want to bother him, Rengoku. Your room would be fine.”

“You can call me Kyojuro if you would like. It would be much easier and wouldn’t cause confusion with my little brother.” He smiled while getting his own jacket on.

Muichiro was stunned, staring at the other who grinned at him like nothing was wrong. “You started using Obanai’s first name right? I don't see why you can use mine either.” He had such a proud smile, Muichiro knew he wasn't one to lie. It made his chest feel all warm again. Like the events before never actually happened. Despite his numb hand.

“Oh um. Thank you Kyojuro.” He spoke, unsure of the words looking at him like he was going to take the privilege away. The elder just smiled nodding.

“Be sure to get a coat. I get a feeling we are going to be out late so it would be good to have something to keep warm. It may be summer but the nights are still pretty chilly.” He explained as he fixed his own. Muichiro watched him navigate the room as he just sat on the other's bed taking off his bag. He simply took out his clothes to lighten the load and pulled on an ash grey hoodie. He was glad his grandmother insisted on taking it. His bag still had his phone so he kept it close to not forget. Muichiro wondered if his old communication cards were there but he was already too busy since little Rengoku had come in again.

“I’m all good to go brother.” He smiled with a duffle bad at his hip.

“Ah good! We should probably head off now to go to the train. Do you think you're ready, Tokito? I’m sure the Kanroji family won't mind if we're late.” He offered. Trying to ensure he didn’t pressure the younger teen into anything.

“I think I’m good to go.” The boy said, staring at his bag. He ignored the urge to look for the communication cards and pulled on his bag over his hoodie. He could get his clothes later when they got back from their seemingly long day out.

The identical brothers smiled at him nodding with their wide eyes and smiles. Opening a path so he could walk with them to the front door. Muichiro made sure to turn his head after exiting the hall, not to look in the kitchen sink.

He didn't want to see that. Again.

He didn't want to go through that again.

By the door Senjuro jumped, startling both older teens. “Tokito! You almost forgot your box.” He picked up the almost forgotten paper box of stars. Muichiro's eyes widen in shock at his own memory taking it from the teen.

He didn't even remember putting it down. Strange.

He gladly took it after wiping his wet hand from the completely melted ice and checked to see if everything was still inside. Seeing all the little stars relaxed him. After a quick pat of his pocket he smiled up at the younger Rengoku “Thank you. I would have forgotten it without you.”

“Oh no! You don't have to thank me, Tokito really it's not that big of a deal.” Senjuro smiled at the Ganken to get their shoes for the day on. Muichiro was careful with the box, treating it like gold.

“So is that Mitsuri’s gift?” Kyojuro asked again as he sat beside his friend. The teen nodded.

“Half of it,” was all he explained loosely. He was more chatty then when they met so that was progress in itself!!!

“What's the other half?” Senjuro asked, trying to get in the conversation too, when Muichiro was silent for a moment the poor kid could feel his anxiety crawling back.

“That's a surprise too. I wanted to hide the box but I guess I forgot about it. Oh well. He stood up with his shoes on and collected the box. Both brothers felt confused, they looked at each other as if to confirm each other's suspicions.

Did he forget he dropped it?

They couldn't ask since the boy had opened the door walking outside to wait for them.

The two chose to ignore that question since it was one of many for the boy. They grabbed the last of their things, keys and Senjuro’s coat before leaving the house and locking it behind them for the day. “To the train station!” Kyojuro cheered, lifting a fist into the air, marching out to the street to walk.

“Yeah.” Senjuro cheered, trying to match his enthusiasm, running a little to catch up. Muichiro watched the two of them in front of him as he trailed behind. He mindlessly watched the brothers talk to each other with big smiles. Muichiro was careful with the box, choosing to kick around a rock rather than think about the Rengoku house.

Muichiro made sure to look at the brothers’ feet every now and then to make sure he didn't lose them, since he didn't know his way around these streets at all. He was happy to see that they were in fact not too far away from the train station.

When they came to the steps the brothers calmly waited for him. “Our station is a bit of a maze, it's best we stick close.'' Kyojuro smiled up at Muichiro from one of the steps down, being taller than Kyojuro didn't feel right at all.

Ignoring that, the brothers walked at Muichiro’s side, getting their tickets and heading down the hall to the station where it was only a few minutes wait before the train they needed arrived.

Muichiro sat down with Senjuro on one of the old, worn metal benches with Kyojuro texting on his phone leaning on the wall beside them. After a moment he looked up. “You keep your phone muted?” He asked Mui to get the boy's attention from trying to read the sign at the neighbouring station.

“Yeah. the noise gets annoying plus a lot of you guys stay up late. I have to get good sleep, apparently.'' There was a reason. He remembered his Grandmother giving him a reason once, but he forgot. He just took the information as fact.

“That is a very good reason, sleep is important. A lot of them are up late studying or working. Giyuu just wakes up late from naps.” Kyojuro explained loosely. His friends were sadly known for staying up late messaging each other weird gifs. Or getting into arguments over pasta to the point of sending audio messages of them angry whispering in a bad Italian accents. That was a weird way to wake up on a Monday morning.

The group chat was always lively. Whether that be from Tengen, Mitsuri and Shinobu sending memes or just the casual rants about events in the day.

Shinobu has even been keeping track of how many times all of them have ‘bitched’ about a certain teacher. Mrs Kondo was winning.

Kyojuro’s spacing out came to an end when the train started pulling up. Both the youngers’ of the group stood up walking over. Senjuro politely taking Muichiro’s hand as to not get separated on the busy weekend train. Everyone was excited to spend the first weekend of summer how they wished. The three of them piled on the compacted train. Muichiro was clinging to a pole not looking too comfortable.

The brothers would have looked for a seat but almost all of them were taken by the elderly, disabled of mothers. The rest that were taken were by grungy old men that didn't seem like they would move for a teenager.

The train ride was a long unfortunately 25 minute ride with only more people getting on than there were people getting off. The train cart was hot and steaming, clearly the AC wasn't really doing its job and as time passed they got more and more compacted in. until finally. “This is our stop!” They wiggled through the crowd. People tried their best to make way, but it didn't really work.

The relief of fresh air when they finally got outside was reliving. All of them couldn't help but gasp a bit. The space was also a very warm welcome for them. Some people still waiting for an upcoming train watched them, some rolled their eyes, a few kids and mothers chuckled at the overreaction.

Kyojuro was the first to really collect himself, checking his phone and smiling “12:36. We're still pretty well for time. Come on, the place isn't too far from here.” He looked back at the two who nodded, both of them looking a little overwhelmed and dazed from the train car but agreed, following him out of the station.

“That sure was a lot of people huh Tokito.” Senjuro tried to start a conversation as they walked up the flight of stairs since it was less compact than the escalator.

“Yeah.”

“It was s-so hot in there. I don't think I could breathe.”

“Yeah.”

“Alright!” Kyojuro interrupted the one-sided conversation before it got any more painful to listen to. “The restaurant is just down the street from here. Are you two ready? I think almost everyone else is already there.” He looked back from the steps after they scanned their tickets again in the machine to leave.

“Yeah.”

“Yeah, I think I'm ready. It will be nice to see Obanai again.” Senjuro smiled trying to stay positive even after basically being shot down by Muichiro three times today.

“Ah yes! I'm sure he will be just as excited to see you! It's been a while since the both of you have caught up hasn't it?” Kyojuro looked down to his brother who only beamed at him more.

The Rengokus know the Iguros well. Their father’s had been close friends for years. Kyojuro and Obanai even grew up together for a while though not in the best circumstances looking back.

For a while, Obanai and Kaburamaru had been staying at their house for a few months. Obanai couldn't attend school or even really go outside because he was in hiding.

From what?

Kyojuro wasn't allowed to talk about it. Senjuro was too young to really understand what was going on. But because of the months straight they had spent together the three of them saw each other like brothers.

They come up the street finally coming up to their desired destination. A Korean barbecue restaurant. All you can eat, cook your own food, Korean barbecue. This place was made for Mitsuri.

The restaurant was fairly big with long tables that stretched down the room. A few families were there enjoying their own lunch.. Some people enjoying the food from their home country quietly. But it wasn't hard to spot all of their friends. With eleven people at the table and clearly more left to come. It was going to be a long lunch.

When they stepped inside, before the waiter could even ask about their table Mitsuri was already squealing wiggling past people to run over “Kyojuro!!!!” She cried, jumping on the tallest of the trio. She knew only he would have the strength to not get completely thrown over from her excitement.

She did in fact almost knock him out of the store, but he caught himself and her. Senjuro looked like his soul had almost left his body by the time the two went still. Senjuro was leaning on the door frame looking ready to faint.

“I’m so glad you made it! Eeee I’m so excited! Tengen said he has something planned after lunch. I seriously can't wait!!!!” She rambled hopping up and down in the teens arms. Before Kyojuro even got the chance to say anything Mitsuri ditched his arms to pick up his poor younger brother like a rag-doll and spin him around squealing. Muichiro used this time to flee to the others not wanting to be her next target.

Shinobu happily pulled out a chair beside her near the end of the group. There was still plenty more space further down the table. “Best to stay out of the cross fire. She greeted all of us that way.” Shinobu smiled.

“I’m just glad Kyojuro didn't knock into me.” He muttered truthfully in a soft tone. Feeling over the little box in his hand as he got comfortable in his seat.

Shinobu stared at him for a moment before smiling. “I have no doubt he made sure you wouldn't get hurt.”

“Who is this you're talking to Kocho?” One of the two only actual adults spoke up. A sweet old lady with her long black hair types up in a clean bun smiling so sweet.

“Oh, Mrs Kanroji, this is Tokito. He's a newer friend of ours.” Shinobu explained watching the lady bow her head in acknowledgment.

“He's actually a first year.” Giyuu spoke up from where he sat politely on the other side of Shinobu. That caused the older lady to gasp a little.

“Oh. A first year? Well I hope you all have been a good influence on him. Wouldn't want to create a little trouble maker.” The lady had a cheeky grin like a child accusing you of stealing.

“Oh no, I wouldn't-” Muichiro tried to speak but he got cut off.

“Me!? Mrs Kanroji, you know me! I'm your favourite. I would never be such a bad influence. On a poor innocent first year too.” Shinobu played an act of offense, wrapping her arm around Muichiro who looked a bit uncomfortable. That was enough to cause the woman to burst out laughing with that same laugh Mitsuri has. The kind of laugh you would try and suppress but it would keep spilling out in snorts and giggles.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Tokito.” Mitsuri’s father greeted, he had the same smile as his daughter too. He had stuffy brown hair and a freshly shaved have with the same bright green eyes as his daughter. Despite the hair he could really see the relation between the three of them.

“Tokito did you say?” A foreign voice spoke up, getting the boy's attention.

“Oh no.” Shinobu muttered with a smile, finally releasing him.

When Muichiro looked further down the table he could see Tengen next to three girls who he had never seen before. “Hey Tokito, come down here. I want you to meet my girlfriends.” Tengen waved him over.

Muichiro couldn't help but ask Shinobu as he got up. “Plural?”

“Plural.” She nodded and let him set his bag on the seat to mark it.

Muichiro took his time walking down to where the three girls sat. Tengen politely stood up. “Girls. This is Tokito. Tokito, these are my three girlfriends. Makio the one with the dyed hair. Suma is the one is the one with her hair down. And Hinatsuru is the the beauty with her hair tied up.” All of them waved as a greeting. Hinatsuru went red faced at the complement making Suma squeal hugging her.

“So you're dating all three of them?” Muichiro asked, confused. Don't drama shows call that cheating?

Makio must have noticed his confusion and spoke up “We're all dating each other, don't worry. It’s completely consensual.” She waved with a smile while sipping her tea.

“Yep all of us are Polyamorous.” Tengen smiled, patting the younger teen on the head. The explanation really didn't help explain anything. Luckily his saviour showed up.

“Best not to think about it too much, Tokito. Don't worry about it.” Obanai spoke up from his seat at the table leaning back from behind Hinatsuru.

“Oh Obanai. It's good to see you. I didn't notice you, sorry.” Muichiro bowed a little ignoring how Suma cooed beside him.

“It’s fine. That's the way I prefer it. We are only getting drinks until Sanemi shows up with Gyomei. The dude had work this morning and Gyomei is at tutoring so they will still be a while.” Obanai kindly explained what was happening. Mitsuri had wiggled back to her spot next to her father, Rengoku was on the other side of Obanai talking with the Kanroji parents.

“Oh ok, thank you. Um.” Muichiro walked over so he could still talk with Obanai personally. And away from the three girls that were whispering and giggling around each other staring at him. When Muichiro was closer he asked in much more of a hushed voice not wanting others to hear. “I have something for Kanroji. When should I give it to her?” He asked, holding up his cupped hands. As if he needed to prove he had a gift.

Obanai looked at him before down at his hand. Muichiro was expecting some kind of harsh word. He wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because of how Obanai treated Tomioka, but he wasn't sure. “Keep hold of it for now. We will eat before we do anything like that. This is Mitsuri after all.”

Muichiro nodded his head a little, pressing his hands to his stomach as if silently going to say ‘I will protect it till then.’

Obanai couldn't help his sinking suspicion at what he could only assume was a little black jewellery box in the boy's hand. He considers himself a calm and reasonable person. He really does. He outgrew his phase of completely over-reacting when anyone talked to his beloved Mitsuri.

He knew better than to think that it was a wedding ring. He KNEW it wasn't, but there was a tiny part of him that wanted to glare the first year into the ground. Taking a deep breath he spoke. “So what have you got there?” He asked, making sure his voice was completely still.

“It's a surprise.” Obanai’s eye twitched.

“Well. Either way, you should sit down. We are going to order soon. Have you got money?” He asked quickly, trying to get off that topic.

“My great uncle gave me his card. I’m fine for the day.” Muichiro explained. Obanai couldn't help but nod chuckling.

“Cool, so you're basically rich right now.” He hummed, going back to his phone. That was Obanai’s body language for ‘the conversation was over. Go away.’ Muichiro simply shrugged in reply, returning to his seat where Shinobu kindly moved his bag for him.

“Oh, thank you Kocho.” He hummed sitting back down with his hands in his lap mindlessly trying to figure out where he could put the box without it being seen.

“Please. If your using Kyojuro’s and Obanai’s first name, you can use mine too.” She waved away the formalities with her hand smiling at him as she put his bag gently on the ground.

Before Muichiro could even muster a reply from his flustered state Giyuu spoke up as well.

“You can use mine too. It feels weird being called Tomioka.” Giyuu was evidently slapped over the head at least semi-lightly by Shinobu.

Before the woman could really start throwing hands with the poor man at the table. Muichiro finally managed to speak up. “Oh thank you. Both of you. It's really nice of you to let me.” That seemed to get the small woman to settle. Poor Senjuro beside Giyuu had been watching and was clearly a little stressed at the idea of a fight. Especially on a girls 18th. Sure she wasn’t of age to drink yet, but she was now legally considered an adult. This day was important!

“It's no problem Tokito. Don't worry about it.” She smiled at him with the slightest tilt of the head. Muichiro could only assume that was meant to make her look cute, in some kind of way. He didn't really get it.

Before he could really think about it, a scream caught him off guard, making him almost jump out of his skin. Mitsuri was squeezing past Tengen and one of his girl friends by his side to get out of the table. “Gyomei!!! Hug!!!!” She squealed out to the blind man helping him ready himself with open arms to catch her as she threw herself at him full force.

Sanemi stood beside them just looking dazed and confused at the sudden energy. The man’s normal bags under his eyes were looking extra dark today. Needless to say they were going to have to stock up on energy drinks for what they had planned.

“I’m so glad you could make it!” Mitsuri squealed happily into the tallest man's arms. Gyomei unsurprisingly started crying with a big smile on his face.

“Of course. I wouldn't miss this day for the world. All of my siblings wish you a happy birthday too. They made you something as well.” He sat the girl down on her feet and opened his bag. It took longer for him to fish them out but he eventually pulled out a hand made paper card and a handcrafted tin cat.

It was made with a pink painted, tin can for the body. It’s eyes were miss-matched buttons with a drawn on cat smile. It had bent pipe cleaner ears that were poking out from holes stabbed from the top. It’s tail was also three braided pipe cleaners and its legs were taped on toilet rolls. The rolls were rather poorly coloured in as it didn't come out very well on the brown card. But anyone could tell all of their little hearts went into this little cat.

Mitsuri was literally in tears. Her makeup stained down her cheeks as she held the gifted trash cat. “I-I love it so much!!!” She wailed out more tears falling. Everyone at the table laughed watching the poor birthday girl sob over her gift.

“Come! read the card over here!” Tengen called with a smile, not wanting to truly ruin this moment for Mitsuri.

The girl laughed through her tears, nodding and coming over. Sanemi politely guided Gyomei to his seat and Mitsuri stood behind the Rengoku brothers to read.

“Ok ok I'm sorry I just need a moment.” Mitsuri giggled more to herself. Senjuro politely handed her a handkerchief from his pocket to clean her tears and mascara. “Thank you Sen… ok give me a moment” She took a deep breath, all the eyes on her didn't move her, she was happy to read out such an adorable letter.

“‘Dear Mrs Mitsri’… awww… ok ok. ‘We all wanted to wish you the bestest birthday ever. Our big brother couldn't really get you a gift be case he Is always super busy so we wanted to make one for you! Her name is Tash the trash cat. And she likes to eat lots and lots food just like you. And is super good at fighting too. Be sure to take good care of her. And have the best birthday ever in the whole wide world.’ It is signed by all of Gyomei’s siblings.”

Everyone was smiling at the message on the paper. “Look, they even drew me and Tash Fighting some bad guys.” Mitsuri wailed, turning the card around so they could all see the poorly written message and the picture.

Everyone at the table awed or chuckled at the message. Mitsuri couldn't help but gently hold the recycled gift to her chest. “I always wanted a little sister.” She muttered more to herself as Tengen and his girlfriend Makio got out so she could sit back into her spot next to her mother. “Gyomei you have to tell them how much I love this. Make sure they know I’m never going to let this go.” She smiled gently, putting it down on her bag between her feet.

“Alright how about we all order what we want now that we're all here.'' Everyone nodded quickly chatting among each other at what foods they wanted to share with their sides of the table and who would pay for what.

“Hey Kanroji, after you order, do you want to head to the bathroom and get yourself cleaned up?” Makio asked, leaning on Tengen while talking around him.

“I’ve got some emergency make up if you need it.” Shinobu offered too.

“Hinatsuru has some makeup wipes in her bag.” Suma spoke up, taking the third girl a bit by surprise. Hinatsuru was still rather new to everyone.

“Sounds like a plan!” Mitsuri giggled, some leftover tears still in her eyes from her little moment. But it seems the talk of food has really calmed her down.

Soon the waiter came around asking what they would want, now that all their reserved seats were all filled.

Everyone ordered what they wanted individually, sauces, soups and meat. No one was surprised when Mitsuri ordered a small mountain of food. The poor waiter was almost rather shocked at the sheer list of food, probably assuming it was some kind of joke.

After a reminder of the cost. They were left and all the girls at the table fled to the bathroom ready to clean poor Mitsuri up and redo her makeup with what they had on standby.

Muichiro was just happy that he didn't have to worry too much about talking. Gyomei sat on the other side of him with Sanemi at the end. The two of them were talking to each other, Sanemi looking at his phone. Something about work apparently.

Still though everyone at the table chatted as drinks came back. A lot of them were talking about what they had planned after or how cute the gift was. There was nothing but smiles on everyone's faces. Muichiro couldn't feel like he could relate.

Sure he liked being here but he didn’t feel like smiling. He hoped that was ok.

Muichiro stared down at the little paper box in his hand. He couldn't explain it. But all of a sudden he felt rather choked up. Like a weird form of stage fright. Telling him if he gave this box to her, something was going to go wrong. Something bad.

He was lost in thought he hadn't even realised his glass of water was here. He was so lost in his own world it wasn't until there was a nudge of his shoulder did he finally look up. Giyuu was leaning over Shinobu’s empty chair looking at him. “Are you doing ok? You look uncomfortable.” That also seemed to get Gyomei’s attention as the giant turned around to look at him too.

The sudden attention was very much not appreciated. “Yes I’m fine. I’ve just um… never been out with so many people before” He explained. Though it really felt like he was trying to tell himself this.

“What? you didn't have friends or somethin’?” Sanemi spoke up, making Gyomei gasp, turning to him in shock.

“I don't know, I guess? I just don't really know what to say.” Muichiro explained, shrugging off the assumed insult.

“You and me both.” Giyuu hummed looking down at his own phone. He had been messaging his sister and looking through his phone for some things for later.

“You could have just said something. I would have been happy to talk to you. Sanemi and I were just talking about managing work while we have our exams coming up.” Gyomei politely explained.

“Is it legal for you to have a job?” Muichrio asked calmly, leaning around to ask Sanemi directly.

“Don't see what's got to do with any of this. I need the money, so I got a job.” Sanemi rolled his eyes looking at his phone trying to figure out how to organise himself for the roster.

“Sanemi is rather secretive about his home life. Always has been, we all just learned not to ask.” Giyuu muttered an explanation to Muichiro who turned to the emo of the group.

“My life ain't none of your business.” Sanemi scoffed with a dramatic roll of the eyes. Gyomei just sweetly pat his shoulders.

“I don't mind. I get it. I don't like talking about my family too much either.” Muichiro shrugged as he took a sip of his drink.

“Well you're not alone in that thought. There is no need to worry. If you say you don't want to talk about something. We will all respect your boundaries.” Gyomei promised, smiling down at him.

The boy was about to reply when all of the sudden bowls were placed in front of him as were the pre-cut meat and sauces. All the food was placed around the small barbecue cook tops on the table.

As per tradition, no one ate. No one touched the food. They thanked the waiters but no one did a thing. They all let out a sigh when the girls came out of the bathroom in their own little pack, Mitsuri looking as good as new if not, even better than before, her makeup more bold and going nicely with her hair and outfit.

“It’s lunch time!” Mitsuri cheered and skipped back to the group, the other girls laughing as they all returned to their seats. Giyuu politely moved out of the way and Tengen gladly kissed each girl that returned.

Once all five of them sat down, everyone said their thanks together with big hungry grins. Once they finished they looked at Mitsuri, the birthday girl.

“Let's dig in!!” She cheered and they all laughed putting all sorts of meat on the grills watching it sizzle with drooling mouths.

The long table was filled with all sorts of chatter. Foods being passed all around, up and down the table. People shared and passed even their own cooking along smiling and laughing. Even Giyuu was smiling a little and of course got teased by Shinobu.

Sanemi had relaxed a lot more from ease as well, though he kept almost burning his and Gyomei’s food. Muichiro had the box under his shirt and ate quietly with whatever was around him. There were such strange and new tastes. He had never had Korean food before and so this really was a new experience for him.

He watched as food came and went, listening to jokes and stories.. Every now and then Gyomei would look over at him and ask “Do you want anything? I’m happy to ask for you. The question was enough to remind Muichiro that he wasn't watching them. He was with them.

It was nice.

The poor workers watched Mitsuri scoff down plate after plate of different meats, vegetables and all sorts of foods given to her. And no one at the table batted an eye. Only offering different meats they cooked to her with beaming smiles.

Mitsuri’s smile was as wide as ever.

“Here Mitsuri you can have some of my Ox tongue.” Senjuro offered the meat of his cooking on his side of the grill smiling up at her.

“You're all so sweet you're going to make me cry again.” She smiled, tapping her eyes with the same hankie as before. Making sure to get any of her tears before they fell with a big smile on her face.

“Don't you dare ruin that makeup. It took fifteen minutes to do.” Makio threatened playfully, making the Pink haired girl laugh with a big smile on her face

“I’m sorry! Really I am, I'm just so happy I seriously can't help it. You guys are the best!” She wailed as her mother pulled her close into a motherly hug. Stroking her head to calm her down.

Mitsuri used to be bullied for things like this after all.

For her hair, her strength and most importantly how much she ate. People insisted she would end up looking like a cow and always give dirty looks when she brought in multiple bento’s everyday.

So to have a big group of friends that accepted her for the way she was. It felt amazing.

They all smiled, letting the girl have her moment. They all continued to eat the piles of food with nothing but huge happy smiles on their faces. All of them couldn't imagine a better way to spend the beginning of summer.

The perfect way to ignore the lingering memories of the past if only for a moment.

It was a while before they managed to finish all the food on the table. Talking with full stomachs and big smiles while they let their food settle. People were already coming up with plans for the holidays with each other. Picnics, beach days, road trips. A lot of the ideas seemed so far into the idea of fantasy that no one corrected each other. Only the month ahead will tell.

Soon though, there was a tap at Muichiro’s shoulder. When the young teen looked up he was Met with Obanai standing behind Shinobu. “I mentioned to Mitsuri you have a gift. Do you want to give it now?” He asked, pointing a thumb further up the table where Mitsuri smiled, waving to him.

“Oh, yeah ok. It's not that big of a deal.” He muttered, getting  the box out of the protection of his shirt and making sure his hands hid it well before getting up to follow Obanai over.

“Ooo it's small!” Mitsuri squealed, seeing the hands clasped around something making the boy nod bashfully. A lot of the people at the table were watching them now, though continuing to talk with only mild curiosity.

“I didn't really know what to get you. My grandfather recommended I do this though.” The young teen muttered his explanation, looking down at his hands then back up at her trying to muster up some confidence. “Hold out your hands and close your eyes please.” He instructed in the politest way he could. Mitsuri’s excited giggle was the only hint that he was doing something right.

Gently he placed the small paper box in the girl's hand moving away to let people gasp and watch with excitement. Both the Rengoku brother’s just beamed. Sure, that surprise was ruined for them. But they were excited to see their childhood best friend open her eyes and admire the craftsmanship. When Mitsuri did, slowly peeling her eyes open like whatever was in her hand was going to bite, she gasped. “Oh my god! Tokito! This is so cute!!!” She gasped looking at it from each side she could.

“You can open it too.” He pointed out standing beside Obanai’s chair. The poor man relaxed into his seat in pure relief, happy to see it wasn’t what he thought it was. He could only watch with a smile when Mitsuri gently pulled off the lid. He couldn't help but admire her eyes and smile while they lit up like a Christmas tree.

“There are itty-bitty, little baby stars!! This is so cool, Tokito, did you make all this yourself?” She looked back at him, holding one of the little stars between her fingers. The boy could only nod mutely fiddling under all of this sudden flattery. “You must have magic hands. Obanai, look how tiny they are!” She smiled leaning over the table to put one in the man's hand.

The poor crushing teen didn’t see it coming but quickly took it from her and looked it over. As if trying to figure out how he actually made it. “Didn't you say that was only half of the gift?” Kyojuro asked, smiling up at him.

Muichiro’s eyes widened, nodding again. “Yeah.” He agreed, his voice was still so soft, not daring to really speak up. “There was some other stuff I made since I had time. I Figured you would like these too.”

Out of his pocket he pulled three little origami animals. The first was a cute cat. “Obanai said you liked them. So this is what I made first. I just think these frogs are cool. They can jump if you press the back down.” He handed over the pink cat and lime green frogs next, watching Mitsuri put down the star box and started playing with them like a child.

How ironic.

Muichiro felt pride bubbling in his chest watching Mitsuri and others play. Mitsuri and Kyojuro started having a ‘frog fight’. Everyone at the table laughed along, jokingly putting their bets in. When a frog fell off the table declaring Mitsuri the winner, they all laughed. Cheering or crying depending who they put imaginary bets on. However their fun was soon cut short.

“Brother, I'm going to miss the train.” Senjuro spoke up tugging on his older brother's shirt.

“I think that sounds like it’s time to pay” Mitsuri’s mother spoke up with a smile. Everyone agreed at that, all remembering their pay amount. A few people beckoned waiters over. It took some commotion and some back and forth but soon everything was paid for with bright smiles.

As everyone got ready to leave Shinobu spoke up. Ready to do her job. “Wanna get a photo of this special occasion?” She asked, Sanemi rolling his eyes but everyone agreed with excitement. Shinobu kindly asked one of the ladies working who had been cleaning up for the afternoon since, beside them work had been slow. The lady happily agreed and stood at the end of the table making sure everyone was in the picture. Even Tash and the origami animals were sitting on the table in bright and shining view.

“Say cheese!”

“CHEESE!!” A few of them yelled with glowing smiles to the camera. Some waved, some added little peace signs. All of them were in good fun and in the spirit of Mitsuri Kanroji’s eighteenth birthday.

After the photo was taken, Senjuro was off to leave for the train to Aoi’s place. Tengen’s girlfriends left pretty quickly afterwards since their school had assigned more homework to them for study. With that the Nine teens stood up with Mr and Mrs Kanroji.

“So when will I see you tomorrow?” Mitsuri’s mother asked. Her Purse filled with her daughters gifts so they could be safely delivered home.

“I’m not sure. From this point on, I’m completely blind to what they all have in store for me. I’ll message you tomorrow when I’m leaving Shinobu’s though, ok? No need to worry. I can handle myself.” She smiled, patting her bicep making her father laugh.

“We all know you can don't worry, my little sugar cube.” Her father smiled, kissing her on the head.

“Be safe, don't stay up too late. And most importantly, have fun dear.” Mitsui’s mother smiled, kissing her on the cheek and finally left the teenagers alone walking out of the store to return to the train station. All of them stood outside the store waving the old married couple goodbye wishing them a good day.

When they were finally out of sight after turning a corner, they all lowered their arms and turned to each other with big excited grins for the afternoons left. “So you all said you have something planned?” Mitsuri asked, trying to contain her excitement.

“More like a few of us prepared something keeping it secret and just worked on the times. Right now if I remember correctly Tengen has the next event planned?” Rengoku explained with his arms crossed and his usual smile on his lips. He turned to his platinum blonde friend to match his devilish smile.

“That's right! I have something fun planned for all of us to do!” He had such a big grin on his face that all of the introverts of the group could feel the colour leaving their face in dread of what stupid event this idiot had planned. “Normally I would have you blindfolded to keep it a complete surprise till we got there. But I think everyone in the streets would get the wrong idea so I scrapped that thought.” He shrugged off his original idea like kidnapping wasn't a big deal. He got out his phone checking something before he smiled again.

“Luckily It's not too far away. Not sure how long we will be here but it will most likely last us until dinner.” Tengen explained as he walked up the streets everyone followed along beside and behind him expecting him to lead the pack.

Mitsuri was tucked in the middle of all of them. Talk of all the fun at dinner was a big part of the conversation, as well as Mitsuri trying to guess where she was being taken. “Oh! Oh! You're going to take me to a boys-maid café!” Mitsuri guessed off the top of her head.

“Why on earth would we take you to a-'' Shinobu covered Giyuu’s mouth catching the boy by surprise. No, they weren't taking her to a thirst café. But keeping her guessing was the whole point of this unspoken game.

“Why? You got a kink for dudes in maid dresses?” Sanemi asked her while subtly leaning an arm on Obanai who was definitely blushing under his mask.

Obanai was the only one who wore a mask out on the streets. Mainly because of his naturally frail figure, getting sick was always an issue for him. None of them gave him shit for it as he always managed to make it seem to fit him. Even if most of them met in school, to them it felt more in character to not see his face at all.

“Eww, Sanemi! Never say that again.” Shinobu scolded Mitsuri too was a blushing, giggling mess. She didn't expect a response like that at all.

“Please watch your profanity.” Gyomei sighed as they continued manoeuvring the summer weekend streets.

“Hey don't get pissy at me. I’m asking the real questions here. So Mitsuri, do you?” He asked again, leaning into the girl making her snort and burst into laughter shoving his face away. She found the question more funny than embarrassing.

“Noo! No I don't! I was just saying what was off the top of my head I swear!!” She laughed walking backwards to talk to him properly and face his teasing head on.

“Oh so you admit you were thinking about it?” He hummed walking with a completely calm look, slouched body and the biggest shit eating grin.

“Not like that, get your mind out of the gutter!” She whined with a smile on her face as she shoved him, Gyomei politely stopping Sanemi from falling on his ass.

“What's a maid café?” All of them, even Tengen and Gyomei turned their heads to Muichiro who stood at the back beside Gyomei after watching all of this happen. They almost forgot he was there.

Staring back at them was the gleaming innocent eyes of a clueless first year who seemed so unaware of all the weird shit that went on in Japan.

“It's a café where the girls dress up in maid outfits, how do you not know what that is?” Giyuu asked from in front of him, turning back around, not seeing this much as a big deal as the others.

“Why?” He continued to pry for answers, staring at them, completely oblivious.

Obanai took a deep breath trying to contain himself, since he doesn't trust any of them to explain it without mentioning Kinks or hentai. “Some people like maid cafes for different reasons. Some prefer it due to the aesthetic, some enjoy the respect and treatment. Then there are weird people that just enjoy seeing girls in maid outfits. As to some, it can be rather provocative”

“Ooo~ so fancy with your language snake boy. He's in high school, he's gonna have to learn this anyway. It’s simple. People like maid cafes because it turns them o-” Tengen was kicked to the ground by Shinobu who was fuming. She had shoved her foot to his back.

“What happened to being a good example!? He's a child!” Shinobu fuming while the other howled in laughter.

“Ok! Ok! I won't say it jeez!” He held up his arms as his only defence when Shinobu kept stomping on him, though not hard enough to do any damage at all.

“I’m so confused.” Muichiro spoke in whispers under his breath, getting a pat on the back from Gyomei.

“Don't worry. It's best not to think about it too much. They’re all just a bit odd.”

“That's putting it lightly.” Sanemi snorted, watching Kyojuro pick Shinobu off Tengen to stop her from attacking the poor man more. Most of her anger was gone by now, replaced with just goofing about by now.

“You're one to talk.” Muichiro muttered, making Obanai snort, turning his head at light speed to look away.

“What's that supposed to mean? Huh!?” Sanemi instantly got defensive, making Obanai break out into a trembling laugh. He found it way too humorous at how quickly that escalated and how defensive he was.

“Alright, break it up, all of you, this is Mitsuri’s day, remember.” Gyomei spoke up, his eyebrows furrowed as he put in his parenting voice, making all of them stop in their tracks.

“It's ok, I don't mind, I think all the fun is exciting.” Mitsuri waved a hand soothing Gyomei’s small temper, even if he couldn't actually see the action.

“Either way, we’re here!” Tengen called out to the others with a proud holler. He had managed to pick himself up when Muichiro wasn't looking and made his way ahead. He moved up the street, passing a few buildings till he came to the shop they were looking for. That seemed to trigger Mitsuri into making a dash over as fast as she could, wanting to see the surprise before anyone else. Most of them were still rather in the dark as well after all. Muichiro didn't even remember how far they had been walking. It all blurred together with all the talking and playful, violent stomping.

When the rest of the group made their way over, he looked up at the store and was bit taken back. Muichiro and the others stood face to face with a dress store? The store was decently sized, with different dresses and suits. There was a surprising lack of people inside except for a guy seeming to look for a suit.

“I’m getting a dress? Tengen I-” Mitsuri was stunned. Mouth rather agape as she looked like a slow, rebooting computer.

“I know, I know. You guys don't like me buying you all expensive things. We don't even have to actually get anything. I thought it would be fun if we all tried on some dresses.” Tengen had an oddly devilish grin. Holding his hands up in defence, acting innocent.

“Wait, do you mean us too?” Giyuu asked, looking a little pale as all of them were staring at the blonde like he was some kind of lunatic.

“Yep all of us. All of us in dresses.” Tengen grinned with a hand on stroking his clean shaved chin as if in thought of the idea. He was smiling way too much for someone on death row.

“Tengen you must be fucking insa-”

“Oh my god yes I love it!!!! That's the best idea ever!! Let's all wear dresses!!!” Mitsuri cheered, hugging Tengen who caught her with ease laughing as well. To say Tengen planned this would be a stupid statement.

All the boys were flustered at the idea. Even people like Kyojuro were a bit taken back. blinking owlishly while Giyuu raised a hand as if they were in school. “Isn't that kind of… fruity?”

“Would you Fuck a dude?” Tengen asked with absolutely no filter. Gyomei luckily had covered Muichiro’s poor ears. Said child was just really confused watching them.

“Um no?” Giyuu asked more flustered at how straight forward the question was. Shinobu was covering her mouth, biting her lip to not laugh.

“Are you happy being a dude?” He asked again with very little interest. Giyuu had a look of pure confusion as if trying to figure out what Tengen was saying and if saying yes was the right answer.

“It's ok if you identify as a girl Giyuu, I would still date you.” Mitsuri promised with a smile.

“I dont think that really means much coming from a pansexual.” Tengen chuckled, making Mitsuri think about that. Was it a complement?

“I'm fine being a dude. Wouldn't it be weird though?” Giyuu was extremely flustered now fiddling with the zipper on his jacket, trying to look casual.

“It’s fine. Besides Guys look great in dresses. If your cis your cis wearing a dress aint gonna change anything.” Tengen spoke like he was some priest coming down to spread his useless wisdom.

“I think Tomioka is just scared he will like it.” Shinobu hummed, making the others laugh as they all walked in.

None of the guys really knew what was going to happen but most of them were ready to step out of their comfort zone. Obanai on the other hand, was familiar with wearing girls clothes, so he wasn't as bothered as the others. Tengen waved off the workers though he would pay them later for the fact they were spending time in their store. The girls quickly got to work picking out dresses for everyone. Wanting to test their fashion skills and to see how far the boys were willing to go.

Gyomei was unfortunately sitting out, for a few reasons. One. The man had no idea how to get a dress on and two. There was no way there was going to be a dress in his size. So he sat out in one of the chairs typically used by uninterested boyfriends and husbands. The blind teen wasn't bothered when the youngest of the group politely sat at his feet watching them all bicker at each other.

“Come on! It looks cute!” Mitsuri insisted, holding up a tight green dress up to Sanemi's face. The teen made a face of sheer disgust, hunching his shoulders and folding his arms to look away. There weren't even any straps. How in god's name was that even meant to stay up?

“There is no way I'm wearing that shit.” He hissed, feeling an eye twitch at the girl's stubbornness.

“Don't worry Mitsuri, Sanemi is just too much of a chicken to wear this. Maybe we could pick something with frills instead.” Shinobu hummed, turning herself back round to the racks and mannequins of dresses in front of her, to hide her smile.

“Give me that you fucking witches.” Sanemi snatched the dress storming off to the change rooms where Giyuu had already been banished too.

For them, Obanai was next. To their surprise, he was already looking at some beautiful lace black dresses that had a vine theme to the rim. He seemed to know his body type well, as he naturally seemed to gravitate to simple dresses that help nicely at the hips.

“Wow that ones cute, it's kinda halloweenie.” Mitsuri gasped, leaning over the man unaware of how red his face went under the mask.

“I was hoping for something with a bit more colour but I think this with a cute with a belt or something might look nice.” Shinobu hummed, leaning on the other side of Obanai. They were ganging up on him.

“If I’m wearing a dress I'm picking out, I don't trust you at all. Not after what you have done to the others.” He glared at Shinobu who smiled at him like she was somehow innocent here.

“Play nice. Mitsuri picked some of them too~.”

“Yeah besides I think you would look good in green, it would match your eyes. Maybe a jade colour or lime green?” Mitsuri hummed a figure to her lips. It took all of Obanai’s strength to look away, taking the dress off the rack.

“Maybe another time.” He fled off to the change rooms quickly without looking back. He didn't want to let his crush see his face all red and flustered. Sometimes she was just too much for him.

Mitsuri looked a little heartbroken when he left so quickly, making the other girl roll her eyes from behind. “Don't get so hung up. He said next time, didn't he?” She hummed while watching Rengoku march into the change rooms after the reptile king. Arms full of seemingly nothing but bright red frills in a massive clump of fabric.

“What have you done to that poor man? You know he has no sense of fashion.” Mitsuri turned to Tengen who snorted behind them coming over.

“Relax he said he wanted to try on a ball gown. I'm only listening to the man's wishes. '' He shrugged like he isn't the reason Kyojuro can't learn decent fashion skills at all.

“We’re doomed.” Shinobu rolled her eyes, making Mitsuri snort covering her face in embarrassment at the noise.

“I knew that from the second I planned this. I’m ready to watch the world quake at a Himbo in a dress. Either way we still technically have one left. You two deal with Tokito. I'll make sure the guys aren't tearing the fabric to shreds behind our backs.”

“Careful! Sanemi has rabies!” Shinobu called out playfully, making the others laugh.

Muichiro had just been watching them with his knees tucked close to his chest. He was quietly perched at  Gyomei’s feet leaning on his legs a little. Every now and then, asking questions which the older happily answered with nothing but a bright smile. It was much easier than getting caught up with yelling from frustrated teens.

Like witchcraft Shinobu must have sensed how relaxed he was, turning her head to him like some kind of owl. She stared for only a moment before stalking over and squatting down to look at him. “Would you like to join us, Tokito? You don't have to, we promise we won't put you in anything you're not comfortable with.” She didn't have her evil smile, or look like she was going to force him to say no. It was genuinely his choice.

And he thought about it. He thought about everything he would have to do. Pick a dress. Go into a small change room. See how it looks.. On you… with your arms… and body...

“No.”

“Are you sure Tokito?”

“Yes.”

Shinobu looked at the boy who stared at his feet with an empty gaze, only twitching a finger to feel over his jeans. She wasn't sure what she did to upset the boy so much as to use such a harsh tone but she shrugged off the attitude letting him be. After all, she can't control how others feel.

“I’ll keep an eye on him, Shinobu. No need to worry” Gyomei promised with a smile, helping the girl relax. She whispered a soft thanks to him since nodding was pointless.

“Look at how cute this strawberry dress is!” Mitsuri gushed looking over the pastel pink coloured tulle with the small strawberries sewn on. The dress had been treading a while ago.

“I mean it's cute, sure. But you got a good set of tits Mitsuri. You should go with a type of dress that makes them and your body look it’s best. We're going with a more fancy vibe rather than cottage core cute.” Tengen argued with a dramatic role of an eye as he looked for his own dress. There was no real malice in his tone at all. Though why Tengen was suddenly back was a mystery.

He seemed to take interest in a V neck, white, empire dress that had a red fabric around the clinched waist. As well as around the ends lined in a beautiful red lace. He took it off the rack and went back into the change room. Shinobu took that as her chance to return back, getting the pink haired girl's attention for an explanation.

“The boys got whiny that Tengen wasn't getting in a dress too, so he had to pick one out for himself before he went in to help them.” She explained with a hum pausing when their heard a prominent

“Oi watch it!” From Sanemi.

“So what dress do you want to get?” Mitsuri asked putting the strawberry dress back though she seemed rather upset to see it go.

“Actually. I was thinking of something a little different.” Shinobu smiled, leaning close to whisper something, causing the other to gasp with a big evil grin. With the strongest nod she could muster. They ran off to another side of the store with excited giggles.

They didn't take long at all. Making sure to pick the perfect outfit, collecting the pieces in their arms. They had to rush to change when they heard the boys wrapping up.

Suits were a lot easier to put on, though Shinobu did have to help with Mitsuri’s tie. How Shinobu knew how to do one was a mystery to the other.

“Oh girls! are you ready to see some beautiful babes~” Tengen called out from the boys room as the girls got out now decked out in full suits giggled to each other running out of their change room and got into a casual pose to greet the boys.

The girls were matching, though with their own colours. Mitsuri wore a lemonade pink blazer, with a mint green vest and a powder pink button up shirt. All of the colours paired together with a green tie that had a thin yellow strike that spiralled down. And finished with a green rose brooch.

Shinobu was in a gape coloured blazer with an amethyst vest and a pale Ube button up shirt. And much like her family symbol, she had a silver butterfly brooch with a cute deep indigo blue bow tie to hold the look together. They knew what worked well for them and they knew how to pick clothes just right. Unlike most of the boys.

The only informal thing was that they were still in socks. Right now though, that didn't seem to matter because as they stood there waiting. Watching the real circus walked in.

Tengen led the group, walking out like a cat walk, one step in front of the other. Even if he wasn't wearing heels, he moved with enough sass to make up for it.

The dress held his hips nicely as the straps hung at the sides of his arms, seemingly almost seductive. With a split down the side of the dress he poked his legs out, to tease his cleanly shaved legs.

“Someone came prepared.” Shinobu snorted, looking him up and down, phone in hand.

Then came Kyojuro. Who seemed way too proud of his red poofy ball gown. He even had to lift it up to run out laughing and give them a not so elegant but very fun looking spin. “Why didn't you tell me dresses were so fun!?” He cheered, showing off his lack of volume control. Like some kind of fascinated cat he came to a stop from his spin and just lightly pat the dress, making them snort.

“You look amazing in that!” Mitsrui giggled, easily matching his energy and excitement.

“Could say the same for you two. I feel like I shouldn't be surprised that Shinobu wanted to get in a suit.” He hummed, posing with Kyojuro for the camera the girl was holding.

“It’s a boys in dresses, girls in suits kind of day what can I say.'' She hummed, getting a few photos and waved them off. She clearly just didn't want to be in a dress.

“Next!” Mitsuri called out like she worked at a supermarket. After a bit of whispering and yelling from the boys. Sanemi came out. In a deep, sea green, cocktail dress that hung just over the knees. The dress had a slit down the side, letting his much hairier legs and scars show. The strapless top did well to show off the muscles he earned through his work. It was a bit of a vibe clash but he looked surprisingly good in a dress.

That didn't cover how bright his face was, he chose to attempt to ignore it as well behind a big proud smile. Giving the camera a good flex and a grin making Mitsuri snort. Tengen had to look away but it was all in good fun. “The back was a bitch to do up.” That was all the information he was going to give them on his opinion on the dress.

“Seems worth it. Would you go out in something like that?” The fellow platinum blonde spoke up with a grin, arms crossed. Tengen was just having fun teasing everyone. The power dynamic here was strong.

“Not a chance in fucking hell. I can barely walk. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Treasure it.” He flipped the camera off, getting a laugh from Shinobu.

“Oh don't you worry. I will. Oh Tomioka~” The four foot witch called out to her closest friend, listening to the chatter still in the change room before Giyuu shamefully walked out.

That didn’t mean he didn't look good. Far from it. He wore a royal blue dress that hugged him similar to Sanemi. However the strings wrapped around his neck with the top part of his dress and his arms being clothed in blue tulle and black patterned lace. Coming to the wrists with blue frills at the end of the sleeves and bottom of the dress. With his normal stoic look and fairness it went really well. Well besides the depression knots in his ponytail.

The smallest got as many photos as she could, trying not to laugh, meanwhile Mitsuri’s eyes were basically sparkling. “Giyuu you look amazing! The black and blue was such a good pick!” She cheered, the other boys genuinely nodding along. They could tell the teen was probably the most uncomfortable in the dresses, even if he had most skin covered. They didn't want to be any harder on him then they already were, so they played nice.

The boy nodded with a shy smile at the kindness of his friends. But decided to end his photoshoot. Stepping out of the way for the last and final contestant for this low quality cat walk. Obanai.

They didn't even need to call, as their goth friend already walked out. His dress was less fancy then the others, just cute and simple. However it also seemed pretty versatile, plenty of things could go with it. The laces and the way it makes his skin look much more pale was what made Obanai look surprisingly good. Unlike the others who would pose or act flustered Obanai didn't look bothered if only slightly annoyed. Though for the camera he gave a polite curtsy. Making the boys laugh. All of the boys snickered and laughed though Kyojuro only watched silently.

“Group photo! We should all pose! Tokito, you should take a photo for us!” Mitsuri called out getting the youngest’s attention. Luckily the teen seemed to be doing better now, his little sour outburst came and went. With some quick help from Gyomei and a quiet chat between them, the boy came over. After getting Shinobu to help with the lighting, she left the boy with her phone as they all clumped together.

Muichiro fiddled with his footing and got ready, making sure they all were in. He clearly didn't have as much camera energy as Shinobu, but he eventually seemed happy with everything. “Uh, say cheese?” he muttered out, a little unsure of his words.

All of them were fine with it and let out a hearty “CHEESE!!!” They all posed together till they heard the snap. There were roughly three till Muichiro lowered the camera and all of them came over gasping and awing. The first was blurry but the second and third were great. Not bad for a baby photographer.

“Can we get changed please. This shit is tight.” Sanemi muttered as he could feel old ladies glaring at them from outside the store. As he pinched the hip of the dress in distress.

When Mitsuri looked at the time of the lock screen she realised they had been in the store for roughly three hours! “Yeah I could really go for a nice dinner.”

“how you're still hungry after lunch is beyond me.” Sanemi scoffed as he walked back into the change room.

“Why are you so grumpy? Don't tell me you have nothing planned for dinner, Sanemi.” Obanai huffed as he undid the zipper for the blonde after he followed in the change rooms after him.

“I have something planned, dipshit. But you know how my cash is.” He huffed looking away as he fled into the stall with his clothes.

“That's why Kyojuro is buying desert before we go to wherever Giyuu and Shinobu have planned.” Obanai explained already in his stall peeling off the fabric in seconds.

Obanai had been the secret genius behind all of this. He planned who dealt with what for Mitsuri’s big day, while he tried to figure out what to get her. Sure he had some ideas, but he couldn't think of anything. Not even his sisters could help. Luckily Tengen had given him a really good idea.

Obanai was skilled with dresses. He slipped the thing off easily and quickly changed back into his baggy jeans. Striped under shirt and an old baggy spy-air t-shirt. Tying his hoodie around his waist. He was the first out as the girls were giggling in the change room talking and Tengen looked out still in the dress waiting for him.

“A gift for your princess.” He tossed him a certain dress from the rack and the boy could only glare heading to the counter to buy it before his crush saw. One look at the fabric and he knew it was perfect.

While he bought the dress the others got changed and the workers happily took the clothes off them. By the time Mitsuri was out, Tengen was the last getting changed as he was making sure he looked perfect in his reflection. The rest of them all sat around Muichiro and Gyomei.

“So how did the photo turn out?” The tallest asked, letting Sanemi sit on the arm of the chair. Muichiro leaned his head on his knees to look up at them and listen.

“Looks fine to me, though I'm honestly terrified about what that woman's gonna do with us in dresses.” Sanemi huffed, making his blind friend laugh. Kyojuro laughed along too, nudging Obanai who simply nodded to him.

“You were the one that chose to flex in the dress Shinazugawa.” Muichiro spoke up, making the teen look down at him from his higher seat on the arm.

“Call me Sanemi kid. My last names way too fucking long.” The blonde shrugged off. The boy nodded looking over to the girls.

“Aw, are we letting Tokito use our first names? Well you can use mine too!” Mitsuri smiled, pointing to herself. They waited for their last member who finally stepped out with a usual grin, looking like he re-did his makeup. Probably did with how long he took but they were finally ready to make their way to dinner.

“So what are we doing for dinner, Sanemi?” Tenegn asked as they made their way out of the store, bowing a little to the lady who looked rather annoyed with them for only buying one thing.

The gruff teen scratched his head once they made it out to the chilly afternoon streets. “Well I can't really buy ya much. But I was um… thinking out loud and my brother wanted to make you something.” He explained looking away bashfully.

“Will we finally get to meet Genya!?” Mitsuri gasped. But Sanemi shot that dream down fast.

“Not a chance. I was texting him while waiting. He’s been cooking dinner for us but he’s heading out to a friends for the night. I’m gonna pick it up so we can eat wherever the night owls want to go.” Sanemi explained. “So I gotta go pick it up while you all go get dessert.” He continued to explain as they came up to a train station they didn't realise he was leading them too.

“So is this where we split up?” Mitsuri whimpered like it was some kind of a  Shakespearean tragedy.

“While I get dinner. Giyuu will send me the location after I pick it up. It'll be like half an hour.” He shrugged like it was no big deal. He needed a break from the crazy anyway.

“No need to feel down Mitsuri! I'm taking you to your favourite ice cream place!” Kyojuro placed a hand on her shoulder making the girl's eyes light up.

“We're also gonna get some other snacks too.” Shinobu pointed out, beginning to lead the group away from the station.

“Oh ok! Bye Sanemi!!! Good luck! If you see Genya, tell him I say hi!” She waved the teen off and they finally left off to the store of Mitsuri’s dream.

They walked down the streets as the sun was finally starting to set and twilight faded away. That chill Kyojuro warned about was really coming to show now as they all talked to each other with smiles. Teasing and giggling, some of the boys even got a little Physical with each other.

For Muichiro, this felt strange. But he felt relaxed and warm at the same time. He had never really been out this late. Not without an adult that is. And definitely not wandering the streets with a bunch of friends alone either.

The feeling knowing that Kokushibou thought he was inside a house warm and safe was oddly exhilarating.

“Well, someone is in a good mood.” Tengen spoke, leaning an arm on the boy's head. Dampening the mood a little.

“I’ve never really been out like this. It's strange.” The boy confessed pretty quickly, not really worried about keeping this to himself.

Tengen ruffles his hair making the boy hit him away with a glare. Only getting him to bellow out louder. “Well you better get used to it. Cause we're taking you everywhere with us from now on.” He grinned.

“If you help us with our homework.” Obanai spoke up from beside Tengen.

“I agree with that! Tokito you’re like a supercomputer!” Mitsiri spoke up, turning around to walk backwards and talk to him.

The boy nodded, not really bothered that they were technically using him. “I’m fine with that. I can try my best.”

And that was all they needed to hear from him.

The trip to the ice cream shop was quick. They got paper bowls of ice cream and Kyojuro had a cooler bag in his backpack to keep them from melting. They all picked from the wide array of flavours for themselves and got choc mint for Sanemi since he couldn't order.

Then they made their way to a convenience store. Getting all sorts of snacks and chips filling their bags up.

Everything was ready for their mid-night picnic.

They texted Sanemi and worked on finding a train for them to meet up on and catch while chilling about the docks. Giyuu was telling Muichiro about some of the abandoned places he would visit on days like these, pointing to the old warehouse at the far off near the edge of the dock.  Mitsuri and Obanai were dipping their feet in the water chatting. The last four were working out the trains together.

It took a little while and by the time they were making their way to the train it was already dinner time leaving a lot of the teens with growling stomachs and excitement for where they were being dragged.

The trains were empty by now. The girls stood between Gyomei and Tengen, Muichiro help onto Kyojuro. There was a bit of station jumping and almost missing their stops, but they caught up with Sanemi who had a bag full of containers of steaming hot food.

It was a battle to keep the hungriest girl away from him. She was basically drooling with a growling stomach.

The train cart was empty so they didn’t worry about keeping quiet. Tengen played music and chatted with everyone. They were loud and just having fun. They were heading a bit out of the city so they were going to be on the train for a while.

Tengen and Kyojuro were doing pull ups on the handle straps. Mitsuri was taking on the poles by the door, Obanai trying his best not to look. Muichiro was talking with Gyomei quietly while Shinobu would chime in too while mainly getting photos.

They were always careful when they came to each stop if someone came in. Though it seemed like the old business men clearly were just avoiding their cart. More fun for them.

Shinobu’s favourite moment was Giyuu falling on his ass when the train turned cause he wasn't holding on to anything.

Eventually they came out to a part of the city that was a bit run down and forgotten. After getting through the dead silent train station. Giyuu led them like a stoic leader all the way out of the town to the nearby hills. It was a bit more walking than any of them expected. But they came up to the rusted old gate which was easily pushed open with nothing but a firm kick from Giyuu.

Everyone with free arms had a clap in applause. They followed the old worn road with all its pot-hole glory up to the shadowy car park building ahead. The only other barricade stopping them from getting in was a chain that was easily stepped over. From there they were free to walk in. Despite the age, the place was still stable and they quickly made their way to the nearby stairs wanting to reach the top.

All over the different, empty levels was graffiti, from scribbled lines and writing that were impossible to read. To artworks of different animes from different times. You could even see some familiar artists improve over time. It was too dark by now to really take in the works though. For now they just had to follow Giyuu who led with a torch He bought a while ago.

“Seriously, how do you find places like this?” Sanemi asked as they all continued up the chipped stone steps.

“I think the trick is you have to be mentally ill.” Obanai commented quietly, making them all laugh. They didn't have to worry about quiet since no one lived around, though the quiet really gave the place a feeling of mystery and aw.

“This is my favourite place to go.” Was all Giyuu muttered pouting while the laughing calmed and they finally came up to the top. He led them out where they all ran over getting a look over the entire city lights from the top. If they squinted they could even see the ocean they were at around an hour ago.

“Giyuu, this place is amazing! I don't know how you found it but it's so beautiful!” Mitsuri leaned over the stone edges in amazement looking over all the colours. She could probably see her house from here.

Behind them, Shinobu and Kyojuro set up the picnic blanket and set up for dinner. Close enough where they could still see some of the lights of the city ahead.

Sanemi gave a sharp whistle getting their attention. “Dinner’s already getting cold, come on let's eat!” He had a smile on his face. Happy to show off his brother's cooking for the first time.

They all sat in a big circle where Sanemi revealed the hot pot. A big container of soup and other smaller ones with different meats and vegetables as well as a pack of cheap chopsticks and bowls from the convenience store. Dinner helped warm up their bodies and souls for the chilly night air. The slight rise in humidity letting loose to the beginning chirps of the summer bugs.

There was nothing but smiles as they talked and poked, eating dinner, desert and all sorts of snacks late into the night. Everyone was just enjoying the night after a long day. Some truth or dare happening with Shinobu, Sanemi and Tengen. Muichiro was listening to Gyomei and Rengoku talk. Giyuu was sitting alone enjoying the view. He was clearly a bit tired from socialising but was enjoying himself in his own way.

Finally, Obanai and Mitsuri were sitting in front of the view, legs handing over the edge of the stone wall. “This birthday has been the best, everyone has been so nice.” Mitsuri gushed with a sigh looking over everything in the neon city lights. “You're all so great.”

Obanai couldn't help but stare at her smile from the corner of his eye, making sure to not make it obvious. “We all wanted to pitch in and make this special. But…” He couldn't stop his cheeks from going pink. He was so glad it was pitch black now.

“Is something wrong?” Mitsuri asked, finally turning away from the view to look at the bashful boy beside her who made her heart feel like it was going to explode.

“It's just… I never got the chance to give you my gift.” He muttered out but quickly took it back “Not that I forgot I was just having trouble to find the perfect gift for you! Not that you're hard to please or anything, I just really wanted it to be special.” He was talking too much. He knew that, but he couldn't stop himself. He didn't want to ruin this right at the end. God why did Tengen put him up to this!

“You have a gift for me!? Can I see it?!” She asked turning her body around to face him. Obanai could only nod weakly not trusting his voice any more. Reaching behind himself he reached into his old backpack and pulled out the gift bag inside.

Pathetically, he shoved the bag in the girl's lap and pulled his black hoodie on from his bag to hide his face. He had put it on at the docks when it started getting particularly cold.

Mitsuri happily opened the bag and squealed so loud it got everyone's attention from their own games to watch the should-be couple’s personal moment. Though no one would interrupt this.

Mitsuri stared at the strawberry dress she had been eyeing in the stores like it was magic that it was in front of her now. “You're the best!!” She pulled him into a tight hug, almost breaking the frail teens bones. Before he could even say anything, she kissed him on the cheek before running off to show the others what she got. Leaving Obanai stunned, feeling his cheek. He had no idea how red his face was but to him this was the greatest night ever.

The rest of the night was pretty calm. They slowly ran out of energy as running around and teasing turned into laying on top of each other looking at the sky in admiration. No one really wanted to ruin the interesting conversations and odd political debates.

When the first yawn of the night came from Tengen that was the cue. “We better start getting home, it's-.” Kyojuro sat up, unbothered by Giyuu’s legs on top of him. He checked his phone to be met with a 2:11 AM on his phone. “-Late.”

All of them drowsily agreed. They were all starting to miss their beds now. They all pitched in to clean up distributing leftover snacks evenly before making their way back down the way they came which was much easier.

By the time they were off the stairs Muichiro was being carried on Kyojuro’s back so the boy could rest even for a bit. Mitsuri offered Obanai the same thing but the boy shook his head looking away making her frown.

Still though they all walked to the station chatting in hushed voices. Most of it didn't even make sense anymore, random shit was funny and Sanemi almost fell over on a pothole. They weren't drunk but they may as well have been.

When they got on the train they all spread out laying down on different seats. They traveled by train for a bit. One by one they chipped off to head home.

First was Tengen who had to switch trains.

Then was Sanemi and Giyuu whose houses were not too far.

Then Gyomei who was at his stop.

Then was Obanai who finally spoke up to say goodbye. Pulling his mask down to smile at Mitsuri.

Mitsuri was staying with Shinobu so the four of them navigated to trains back to the butterfly girls house. Not wanting to leave them alone in the dark. Mitsuri and Kyojuro chatted quietly. Shinobu looked over all of her photos including the silhouette kiss with the city lights behind them. Calmly she got one last photo of Muichiro battling sleep on Kyojuro’s back before finally working on sending them all to the group chat.

After they came to their stop the girls insisted they would be fine from there and parted ways at the station. Kyojuro gladly switched trains back to his own house. Alone on the train with Muichiro asleep on his back was a nice feeling. It was completely different to how getting into the city felt. But he couldn't complain.

After arriving at his stop it was just a nice familiar walk home. Even if it felt a bit odd to walk around the streets so early in the morning.

The Rengoku house was quiet for the day but both boys were exhausted. “How about we let you sleep in Senjuro’s bed? I would rather not get out a futon at this hour” Kyojuro said, Shaking the boy awake before gently setting down so they could both take off their shoes and bags to walk in. Muichiro was so tired he had no idea what was really going on at this point. The understanding of dream and reality was lost long ago no matter how much he rubbed his eyes to free himself.

The older could only smile, taking his hand and leading him into his brother's room and helping him in bed. After tossing a few weird plush toys belonging to the youngest Rengoku off the bed. There was a nice space to sleep. Muichiro looked a bit out of place in his brother’s bed but the black haired teen fell asleep right as his head hit the pillow.

Kyojuro smiled, walking out and closing his door. As much as he wanted to sleep since it was nearly 4 AM he ignored it to get some last minute chores done. His father would be home tomorrow and he knew he wouldn't be able to get them done before then.

First was some washing. Next was unloading the dishwasher and finally. Cleaning the beer bottles in the sink for recycling. It was normal practice for him so he didn't mind. He had those bottles clean and away in the bin lickety-split. Though he was careful about staying quiet for the only other member in the house.

In no time, he was finally able to let himself rest. Falling to bed just like Muichiro, not caring for pyjamas at this point. Before he finally let himself clock out he made sure to set his alarm and sent a goodnight text to everyone. Not minding if none of them saw it. Rolling over and letting out a sigh, Kyojuro let himself fall asleep ready to at least get 5 hours of sleep tonight. And wake up ready to greet the day.

Today may not have started the best but all of the memories of the events were well welcome. He could safely call this one of the best days of his life.
