Work Text:
Shoka still has to get used to waking up. As a reaper, she didn’t really need to sleep, so she usually just spent her off time doing other things. It’s a bit of a rough adjustment to have to go back to maintaining a sleep schedule.
Though, it’s not bad waking up next to Rindo. She can hear his quiet breathing, proof the two of them are alive. It’s nice. Rindo looks so cute when he’s sleeping. His eyelashes are really pretty up close, and Shoka can see how his cheeks and the bridge of his nose are dusted with freckles.
She wants to kiss him, to see his face turn bright red when he wakes up and sees what she’s doing. Wants to have him murmur a good morning before the two of them lose themselves in their embrace. She’s about to lean in but stops when she hears him speak.
“Y-You can stop staring now,” Rindo says, voice still somewhat drowsy. “I mean- if you’d like to… I’m fine if you keep looking.”
“Looking is nice and all, but right now I want to kiss you.” It’s so embarrassing to ask, and Shoka can feel her face heating up a bit. She’s not very good with words, it’s so much easier if she can just surprise Rindo. But this’ll get him flustered too, so it all works out in the end.
His eyes open wider than before. Shoka didn’t say something wrong, did she? Was it too early to say that?
“Go ahead,” He says, “I have to get ready earlier today though, so we can’t lay around for very long.”
“Aw, that’s a shame. Guess I’ll just have to make staying in bed worth your while.” Shoka can work with this. Tease him and make him a blushing mess so he struggles to leave on time. She wishes she kept her lipstick on overnight, in case he forgot to wipe off the marks before leaving.
Wait, why is she thinking like this? Rindo was nice enough to let her stay with him in case she had nightmares. (She knew it was a mutual arrangement, but wasn’t complaining. It was cute of Rindo to trust her to see him like that.) She changed gears, as much as she wanted to tease him and kiss him senseless, Rindo deserved better.
She gave him a quick peck on the cheek before pulling back.
“Is that all?” Rindo whines, “I thought you were going to make it ‘worth my while.’”
“Yeah, I was, but you should probably get ready. When was it you had to leave again?”
Rindo doesn’t reply, reaching over to grab and check his phone. Aw, that’s cute, his lockscreen is still the picture the two of them took together when they first met up in the RG. Shoka’s taken out of the moment when Rindo curses under his breath.
“Shit! I was supposed to leave an hour ago.” He sits up and sighs. “I was supposed to get up with the alarm and woke up earlier but-“ Rindo trails off, and Shoka swears she can see the start of blush on his cheeks.
“But what?” Shoka sits up with him and leans closer, “you’re gonna have to speak up, babe.”
“I needed to get my hoodie and uh… you’re wearing it.”
Oh, this is great. Shoka can definitely use this to her advantage.
“So you were waiting for me to get up instead of just taking it off? Don’t you have other hoodies to wear?”
“I didn’t wanna wake you up… you looked like you were really comfy… it was- kinda cute actually.” Rindo tilts his head to the side for that last part. He gets flustered so easy when it’s early, she really should do this more.
“Aww, you’re so sweet,” Shoka says, leaning in to kiss him on his forehead. “Your hoodie is really comfy, though. Maybe I’ll have to keep wearing it forever.”
“I kinda need it now, though.”
“If you need it that bad then try and get it off me yourself,” Shoka teased.
Rindo just sits there for a second, completely motionless. She worries there might be something wrong with him, but she can see his cheeks turning a deeper and deeper shade of pink.
“What? You’re not too chicken, are you?” Shoka leans in further.
“Hmm, no,” Rindo muses, “but I’m already late so maybe I’ll just stay in bed with you a little longer.”
“Good choice,” Shoka purrs, finally leaning in close enough to kiss him properly. She lingers close to him after the kiss is broken, but instead of leaning in for another, she flicks him on the nose.
“You’re still a chicken, though. And a loser.”
Rindo grabs her with a hug, pulling them both back onto the bed. “I’m your loser.”
She nuzzles her face into his chest. He’s so warm, Shoka wonders how he wears such thick clothes without overheating. It’s nice, she feels like she belongs here. Rindo’s still hugging her, and honestly, she could live as an oversized stuffed animal for the rest of her life. She closes her eyes and smiles against him.
“Thanks for staying in with me, Rin-Rin. I needed this,” she murmurs.
“I needed this, too.” Rindo leans down to kiss her forehead, but as he pulls back she feels a sudden chill against her back.
The sneaky bastard. He had to go and take off her hoodie the second she put her guard down.
“Hey! Give that back!”
“It’s my hoodie, you’re the one who stole it in the first place!”
“I need it though!”
A short pause. “Wait, why?”
“I’m cold, Rindo. It’s why you let me wear it in the first place, dummy! Also, it’s really soft and it smells nice and it reminds me of you!”
Wait. She didn’t say that last part out loud, did she.
“Y-you can have it, then.” Rindo says. Shit, she definitely said that out loud. This is probably the most embarrassing thing she’s said in ages, but at least she can hide her rapidly blushing face behind the hoodie.
“You look- you look really cute in it, anyway,” Rindo says as she puts it on.
“Wait, didn’t you need this to get dressed in?”
“I’m already an hour late. The others probably assumed I’m sick or something. I just want to stay here with you- If that’s ok, I mean.”
“Of course it is,” Shoka says, leaning in to kiss Rindo once more.
