Chapter Text
“Guys! Guys!” Daisy came running over to the group laying on the field. Bobbi tiredly heaved her head. “What?” Daisy skidded to a halt in front of them, taking a second to gain her breath.
“I got a B for my biology test!” Bobbi’s eyes lit up. “Does that mean…”
“I’ve passed all my classes! I’m a senior with you guys next year!” Jemma tackled her in a hug, sending them both tumbling towards the ground. Daisy started laughing. “I didn’t think you’d be that happy.” Bobbi threw herself onto their pile of people.
“Of course we’re that happy. You’re gonna be in classes with us. How awesome is that?” Hunter scoffed from where he had sat up. “Not awesome?” he asked with a teasing tone. Daisy came from under her friends to stomp his shoulder. He rubbed his arm in mock-hurt and smiled at her. “No but seriously, congratulations. I know you tried really hard for that test.”
Daisy beamed at him. “Thanks, Hunt.” Hunter frowned but let the nickname slip for now. Daisy just grinned at him. Jemma came hanging around her shoulders. “Someone here has great news too.” Daisy looked around the group curiously. “Who?” She saw Fitz staring at his shoes sheepishly.
“Fitzy? What’s the news? Come on, I wanna know.” Fitz mumbled something, but Daisy couldn’t hear it. “What was that? Don’t be shy, Fitzy. It can’t be that bad.” Fitz looked up. “I’m going on a date. In about ten minutes. He said he’d pick me up here.”
Daisy’s eyes started to shine. “Who is he?” Fitz shook his head laughing. Kara sighed theatrically. “He won’t tell us. Believe me, we’ve tried. He said we’ll just have to wait and see.” Daisy frowned. “But I can’t wait ten minutes.” Fitz grinned at her. “Too bad.”
Daisy held his gaze, searching for any hint. Fitz was the first to look away. Daisy started grinning. “I think I know,” she said, dragging out the o-sound. Trip’s head shot up. “How? How can you know from one look?” Daisy flipped her hair dramatically. “I know everything.”
Jemma started poking her. “Tell. Us. Who. It. Is,” she said, punctuating every word with a poke in Daisy ribs. Daisy chuckled and tried to squirm away. “Stop. Jemma!”
Jemma continued poking her until Daisy managed to get up and sit behind Mack. Mack looked over his shoulder. “If they come after you, I’m not gonna be your human shield.” Elena chuckled next him, shaking her head in exasperation. Daisy rolled her eyes at the guy.
“I know. But you won’t have to, cause I think Fitz’s date just arrived.”
The group turned their gazes towards the end of the field, where a tall guy just stepped out of his car. Daisy glanced quickly in Fitz’s direction and she saw his eyes lit up until they shone as bright as the moon. She smiled. The guy walked over to the group and they gasped when they recognized him. Johnny waved shyly.
“Hey, guys. I’m here to pick up my date. And to see my… Daisy why are you hiding behind Mack?” he ended exasperatedly. Daisy got up quickly and walked over for a hug. “Jemma started poking me,” she said with a pout. Johnny raised an eyebrow. “And you thought that Mack would protect you?”
Daisy heard Mack chuckle and rolled her eyes again. “No, but he’s too mature to join in and big enough to hide behind. It was tactic.” Johnny nodded. “Right. Anyways.” He walked over to Fitz, offering his hand. “Ready to go?” Fitz took his hand and was heaved up.
He squealed slightly and looked around embarrassed. Johnny just laughed at him. “I’ll take that as a yes.” Fitz nodded, clearly very excited. “I’m ready for anything.” He quickly blushed. Daisy stood on the side, looking thoughtful. “I honestly don’t know who to give the shovel talk.” Hunter stood up behind her. “I do.” He turned to Johnny.
“Hurt him in any way, and you’re so dead you’ll be way past heaven or hell. I don’t care if you’re bigger than Mack, I’ll kill you.” Johnny was actually intimidated by Hunter’s words and hasted to assure him. “Don’t worry, Hunter. I won’t hurt him. Wouldn’t even dare to think of it.” Hunter nodded, somewhat reassured and he walked to Fitz. The two of them talked in hushed tones for a minute and then Hunter sat back down next to Trip. Fitz smiled after him and then looked at Johnny.
“Are we going?” Johnny looked at his sister. “Aren’t you gonna give him the shovel talk? I had one, now he needs to get one.” Daisy pursed her lips in deep consideration. Then she turned to Fitz.
“If you hurt him. I’ll break every bone in your body, one by one, and then…” She looked at Fitz again, with his cute curls and his obsession with monkeys. She sighed. “I can’t threaten you. You’re too adorable. Just please don’t hurt him.”
Johnny’s eyebrows shot to his hairline. “What?”
Fitz started laughing and Daisy heard the whole group behind her chuckle. Jemma came walking up to them, taking Daisy’s hand. “You are terrible at this, love.” Daisy cringed. “I know, I know. But I physically can’t threaten Fitz.” Jemma and Fitz exchanged a look.
“Fitz. If you hurt Johnny, Daisy will reassess her opinion of you, and you will be dead. Personally, I’d kick you in the balls every day for as long as I think it’s necessary.” Fitz nodded, slightly terrified with how easy Jemma said it. “Got it. Don’t hurt him.” Daisy gave Jemma a grateful look. “Thank you.” Johnny sighed.
“Great. Well, we really gotta go. Come on, Fitz.” Fitz nodded and waved goodbye and followed after Johnny to his car. “Say ‘hi’ to Sarah for me!” Daisy called after them. Johnny gave her a thumbs up and then they got into the care and drove away.
Daisy groaned and buried her head in Jemma’s shoulder. Jemma wrapped her arms around her waist. “What is it?” Daisy shrugged. “Dunno. I’m tired. Everything changed within a week and then tests and stuff. I’m just done with everything.”
Jemma took her back to sit next to Bobbi, who pulled them into her side. “You done with us?”
Daisy took a look around her friends. Hunter and Trip pulling out a game of cards. Mack and Elena laying together, talking softly about whatever. Kara on Bobbi’s other side softly petting a sleeping Buck but looking at her. Bobbi, her best friend, who had softly started to draw patterns on her arm. Jemma, her girlfriend, leaning into her and staring up at with eyes filled with love.
Could she ever be done with them?
She smiled softly.
“Never.”
