Work Text:
“Everything would be harmless of course, minor physical inconveniences and psychological torment of the smallest scale only. All that remained now was to determine who would have the joy of ‘easing’ each member into the idea of another member of the infamous bat family. The last one introduced had been Damian as Robin, some still had yet to recover from the experience.”
Strategic confrontation of enemy forces is a special hobby and Talent of the Batfamily. Practicing that talent has to happen somehow
Wonder Woman - Ladybug and Chat Noir
Ladybug and Chat Noir actually met Wonder Woman at the Louvre, as civilians. Bruce had vogued for Diana’s ability to keep her emotions in check so Marinette had decided to save time and visit the Amazon at her civilian job.
Adrien Agreste and Marinette Cheng Wayne walked into the Paris Louvre arm in arm after they got out of school. They entered the basement after telling security that they had an appointment with Ms Prince.
“Welcome Lady Luck and Duke Destruction.” She greets as they walk in the door to her private office.
Green Lantern (Guy Gardiner) - Robin, assisted by Spoiler
Steph’s mission report started something like this. “No one died, there was only a little blood, and we finally know what happens when a Green Lantern pees in the suit. In my book that's a success.”
John Constantine - Agent A
Tea. That's it, just tea. Alfred and Mr Constantine had a mutual understanding.
Dr. Fate - Batman and Ladybug :
Batman did not like letting any of his kids work with Fate without his supervision. Now that one, (and a partial), of his kids was a magic user that was only reinforced. Dr Fate was a powerful ally of earth, but he was not a trusted ally to anyone in the Justice League.
Ladybug just plain didn’t like Dr Fate. Nabu was a real piece of work. Marinette wasnt just working off her own family's stories. Tikki had quite a number of choice words to say about the ancient Magician.
Batman was the one to organize the meeting. Ladybug was able to convince him to let her handle the interaction unless something went downhill.
“Fate.” Batman introduced. “This is my daughter Ladybug. She has some questions for you.”
“Speak.” The man replied. “And Fate will answer.”
Ladybug stood taller and let Tikki’s consciousness come to the front of her awareness. Once she was sure that the tiny goddess was as involved in the conversation as possible she met the magician's eyes, or what passed for them.
“Nabu, you have distorted the balance of the universe. By blocking Monsieur Zatara's soul from his body you exceed your purpose on this plane.” Ladybug's voice became layered with power. “Death is inevitable and though your consciousness may have been stored in that helmet the balance is not happy with your continued subjugation of other living souls. You lived your life. Assisting humanity is one thing, but preventing others from living theirs is another entirely.”
“Child.” Fate chastised.
“QUIET.” Ladybug’s voice raised with Tikki’s power. “YOU DO NOT GET TO SPEAK.” They commanded. “Now you listen. Nabu, we give you 14 days to get your affairs in order and release Zatara. Failing to do this we will do it for you, permanently.” They approached the man glowing with power. Batman held himself still from the encounter. “Do not underestimate our power Nabu, for we are one and many. You can not hide from Creation or Destruction.”
Fate seemed to not react, but he did respond. “Understood Mistress of Creation. Your commands will be respected.” He had barely finished before he vanished.
“Was that wise?” Batman stated. “Fate is a valuable asset.”
“No, his knowledge is an asset. If he was the only one with any knowledge about the mystic arts it might be different.” Ladybug spoke. “But his information is becoming increasingly less valuable compared to the knowledge of others.”
“And no one likes him.” Batman queried.
LAdybug looked at him. “Fate takes away from others lives. Nabu already lived his life.”
“Thank you Bluebell.”
“Of course dad, I’m glad to help get Zatara back.”
Aquaman (and Aqualad) - Nightwing and Chat Noir
Nightwing was the one to organize the meeting with Aqualad. Dick and Adrien had felt that the king of Atlantis might not be the best person for the black cat to surprise. Thankfully Arthur had been rather understanding and was open to meeting with them at Mt Justice. Considering the security of their chosen ‘neutral ground’ Adrien was transformed. Plagg wanted to get a ‘feel’ for the most recent ruler of the underwater city. For the meeting Dick had lent Adrien some simple sparing clothes and a domino mask to protect his identity.
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) - Red Hood and Robin
Hal might not have been the lanturn to fudge up the Paris situation, but he was another result of the training that the Green Lantern Corps gave their people. As a whole the Corps had quite a bit of shortcomings with their training process. They had as a whole far too much reliance on the source of their power and the justice involved in the way they were selected.
“Red Hood, Robin.” Hal greeted as he went through files on the watchtower computer.
“Hal.” Red Hood looked angry at the Green Lantern. “You need to clean up your camp. What Guy did shouldn’t have happened. Get a handle on your people. Fix the problem, or we will Hal.”
“And by we Hood is referring to the entirety of our large family.” Robin stated.
“Understood.” Hal stated. It looked like he would be making a trip to Owa to review the new Lantern training process.
Superman - Red Robin
“All of you were in on this?”
Tim was sitting at the Kent’s dinner table calmly eating Lois’s homemade lasagna. It was family dinner with the Kents and Connor was visibly trying not to laugh at his family. Jon seemed to be watching the back and forth with fascination.
“Clark, eat your food or I’ll actually enforce the no cape talk at the table rule.” Lois commanded.
Tim held in his own laugh as he kicked Kon under the table to stop his laughter.
“We felt that it was most important to prevent the situation from escalating in Paris, Clark. At the time any outside superhero involvement would have seriously blocked Ladybugs progress.” Tim stated.
“And now.” Clark asked before taking a bite of his food. “What changed. Ladybug is your sister, what changed?”
“She asked.” Tim stated. “Ladybug kept us updated every step of the way, Clark.” He took a drink. “My sister enlisted the entire teenage generation of heroes. She was never on her own in this. Not where it mattered.”
“All of us were asked to help out.” Conner stated.
“Jon?” Clark asked.
Jon nodded. “All of us, dad. It was great bonding for us. Working together without outside interference.”
Tim held his tongue as he watched the family interaction. It was interesting to see the difference between Kon’s family and his own.
“Hunny shouldn’t we talk about something else.” Lois interrupted. “Like why Connor invited Tim over for family dinner.”
Clark looked plainly confused. Tim wanted to laugh. It was a little refreshing after his own familys reaction.
“Oh my god Clark how oblivious can you be?” Lois complained.
“What?” He asked indignantly.
Jon laughed. “Dad, they're dating.”
Tim laughed at the dumbstruck look on Clarks face as he held onto Conner's hand under the table.
Green Arrow - Catwoman
Black Canary - Batwoman
Kate and Selina made a day out of it. Star City had quite the collection of high end spas and it was only a minor thing to sneak Dina out from Oliver's nose for a quick girls day. The three of them were some of the first mostly human women in the business, and it was nice to bond away from the men at points and time.
Plus it made for a great opportunity to discuss the possible implications long term emotional suppression would have on two developing teen heroes. And the rest of the affected city of course.
It took Oliver about three hours to track them down after working through the false trail Selena placed. He found the women happily sipping mimosas and getting their nails done in coordinating colors to their personas. He was not impressed.
Booster Gold - Black Bat and Signal
-REDACTED-
Blue Beetle - Red Hood and Red Robin
Jaime thought that the Bird brigade just liked any excuse to cause objective chaos. Mostly harmless chaos with a side of property damage unless you were a criminal. The Scarab wasn’t as resigned to the behavior of the former Robins as he was. In fact the Scarab was in fact very upset and, argumentative, about the unanticipated kidnapping.
“ We should shoot them. ” The Scarab argued.
“No. They are my amigos, and they aren’t hurting us.” Jaime hissed. “You can not shoot them.”
Red Hood chuckled. “Tell your bug to get the stick out of his ass so we can see if you both will do okay with another bug in the bunch.”
“Jaime, how do you feel about an arcade?” Red Robin asked.
Twenty minutes later the three heroes were in civies casing out the local arcade for entertainment.
“So what’s the deal with this new hero? Your sister right?” Jaime inquired.
“Ladybug, and yeah she’s our little sis.” Red Hood answered. “Thinking you might want to be bug bro’s?”
Flash - Nightwing
Barry threw his keys on the counter with a sigh. Wally had just gotten done with his full debrief of Paris, and a detailed explanation of why he still couldn't get fresh croissants from the source. It was a little much. And the ominous shadow in the corner told him that the night wasn’t over.
“Can you turn the light on so we can get this over with?” He started pulling a can of pop out of his fridge. “Not all of us are night vigilantes. Some of us do our heroing in the light of day.”
The lamp clicked on to reveal Dick Grayson.
“What, no costume?” Barry inquired.
Dick smiled. “I’m visiting Wally when I’m done.”
“With?”
He smiled brightly. “Scaring you.”
“What, did the Bat’s draw straws?” Barry joked.
Dick just raised a brow.
“You know what. I don’t actually want to know.” He sighed. “So what’s on the agenda besides brooding and whatever it is you and Wally do for fun.”
The other hero/vigilante just laughed. “Honestly from what I can tell you have been fairly reasonable about this. Plus you are way too easy to mess with and Wally always complains that you get winey after one of our group's little ‘chats’. This way I get to mess with you in some minor way and collect a small favor from Wally.”
Barry sat down across from his uninvited guest. “And, get to the part that wigs me out so I can go to bed.”
“Okay, what do you think of Ladybug then?” Dick asked without preamble.
“Your sister seems very competent, just like the rest of your family.” Barry told him. “I’m sure that eventually she won’t be as much of a secret, and when that comes I look forward to being properly introduced to the young woman who successfully out maneuvered the entire justice league.”
Dick laughed. “Little Bug is really something. And you are going to love her cooking. She’s the only one of us Alfred will let in the kitchen unsupervised. Her food is amazing, she did not get that from Bruce.”
Barry laughed. “The big guy has a large number of talents.”
“But cooking isn’t one of them.” Dick confirmed.
Hawk Girl - Batwoman and Black Bat
Kate took great pride in forcably dragging her coworkers out on the town. And getting her baby cousin out and Hawkgirl was a great day.
Cass had to sneak into the police department afterward to steal the files. Babs scrubbed the computers, and Hawkgirl covered for them with the JL. Kate couldn't even regret the favors she was going to owe. It was that fun of a night.
Martian Manhunter - Oracle and Batman
“You are here to discuss the new recruits.” The Martian said before turning around.
Batman sighed. “Yes John. My daughter is concerned by the current state of the Justice League.”
“And our family loves to prank the rest of the heroes.” Oracle included.
The alien chuckled, “I have a feeling that these new heroes will provide quite a beneficial change to our current dynamics.”
“So do we.”
Captain Marvel - Chat Noir and Red Hood
“What are we waiting for again?” Chat asked.
Red hood slammed a hand down on Chat’s shoulder. “Chillax Whiskers. Cap Marvel isn't the most predictable hero. You’ll see. I’m sure you two will get along.”
“I’m not sure I trust you.”
“Then why pick Captain Marvel?”
Chat looks evasive. “LB and the Kwamis. They think that the powers of Shazam are curious, especially considering that Captain Marvel never calls his abilities by name except in written reports.”
“Can’t believe that she got all that just from hacking the WatchTower.” Hood complained.
Chat shrugged. “She’s your sister. Shouldn’t you be aware of how inquisitive she can become when bored, or stuck.”
Just then there was a flash of lightning across the city. No origin for the strike, just one hit among clear sky’s.
“Show time Kitty.” Hood said standing up.
In no time the two were joined by a large man in a brightly colored suit.
“What’s going on? Your Red Hood aren’t you? And one of the new heroes.” Captain Marvel rattled off. “What are you doing here? Is something wrong?”
Chat was disconcerted by the behavior. It just didn’t fit.
Hood seemed prepared however. “Settle down sport. We just came to say hi. Call it a social visit. Chat Noir was curious and wanted to meet you.”
Captain Marvel turned to focus on Chat. “You radiate a weird magic.” The man stated without context or preamble.
Chat looked at the other hero with a more critical eye. Trying to remember how to see magical auras himself. “So do you.” He shot back. “It’s not nice to call people weird.”
The man shrugged in a way that looked odd on his stature. “Oops.”
Red Hood seemed to be struggling not to laugh as he watched the two interact. “Sport, let's take this somewhere a little more private.”
The large hero seemed to deflate. “Do we have to?”
Hood shrugged his wide shoulders. “I think this time will be less annoying and more helpful. Chat and Ladybug will understand, I promise.”
Captain Marvel sighed before grabbing onto the back of both heroes outfits and zipping across the city to some old abandoned warehouse. When he touched down Chat shook himself out like a cat would shake off his fur.
“Shazam.” Captain Marvel stated. In a flash of light the tall man was gone and replaced with a teen who looked to be no older than Chat himself at 14. “Hi, I’m Billy Batson.”
Chat looked at Red Hood.
“No relation, I promise we checked.” Hood defended. “B man tried to bring the kid in but he’s a little attached to Fawsett city, and his current foster family.” This was said quietly, sensitively. “Billy has been doing this for just over 2 years now.”
“Mood man.” Chat said. Hoping that breaking the tension would help the other kid loosen up more. “Heroing young sucks.”
“And with zero prep.” Hood stated.
Billy looked up. “You didn’t have any training either?”
Chat shook his head. “Not unless you count formal fencing, which isn’t the most helpful for general fights.” He pointed his chin at Red Hood. “I got lucky and my partner just happened to be the Bats-Daughter. She trained me as we went.”
Billy looked pleased. “The Bats and Superman started helping me out with training at the watchtower a while back when they found out I was, well, me. But I kinda just stumbled onto my powers in a way.”
Chat tilted his head. “I don’t think that’s entirely true. Plagg Claws in.” As the green light dissipated Adrien looked at Plagg. “Plagg, this is Billy, he is Captain Marvel and holds the powers of Shazam.”
Plagg started cackling...
Red Tornado - Oracle
Babs had it handled.
Stargirl - Spoiler and Ladybug
A long black car pulls up to the curb next to Courtney. She never thought the Batmobile would show up in Blue Valley. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that Star Girl had been recently inducted into the Justice League as the trial representative from the new Justice Society of America, Courtney would probably be concerned. Considering it was the middle of the day it was definitely a good thing Courtney is Star Girl at the moment.
The window rolled down on the presumed Batmobile. Inside were two women, actually, they looked to be around her own age. Though one was definitely a little bit older.
“Get in.” The blond in the purple mask said. “We’re going shopping.”
The Bluenette with pigtails peaked around the other hero to comment. “For Justice!”
Stargirl shrugged. She could use the stress relief.
Black Lightning - Robin and Signal
“Why are we here?” Robin asked. “The major threats have been accounted for. Black Lightning is one of the less obnoxious members of the Justice League.”
Signal let out an amused breath. “I think that was almost complimentary, Mini Bat.”
“Tch.”
“In answer to your inquiry I have reasons.” Signal defended.
“Would one of those reasons be your interest in pursuing my daughter?” A deep voice interrupted from behind them.
Black Lightning was standing behind them looking both irritated and amused.
Signal was certain that the look on Robin’s face would have been full out laughter on anyone else. At a different time he would even be proud.
“You signed up for this because you want to date Lightning?” Robin asked incredulously.
“Why did you sign up?” Signal defended.
Robin shrugged. “I wanted to speak to at least one person who would appreciate the true brilliance of my blood sister.” The boy stated. “The Green buffoons do not understand the amazing skills of my sister.”
“Little D, that's almost touching.” Signal replied.
A loud cough split them apart, Black Lightning looked to be holding in laughter. “You Bat’s never fail to entertain.” The man stated. “I’m guessing the rest of the cape brigade is getting their own versions of this little encounter?”
“To a degree.” Signal answered.
“We engaged in a juvenile tournament to determine how we distributed our encounters.” Robin answered.
Signal got the idea that Robin actually ‘liked’ Black Lightning.
“However it happens we got you.” Signal stated.
“Because you wanted to ask if you can date my daughter?” Black Lightning said.
Signal straightened. “Yes sir.”
The older hero watched them for a minute. “Fine. Why don't you and the squirt run a patrol with me. After, we can talk about whether or not my little girl isn’t going to be wasting her time on you.”
He relaxed. “Thank you sir.”
“Tch.” Robin interrupted. “This is embarrassing.”
