Chapter Text
Nancy sees the poster the day after they defeat the Aglaeca.
LOST DOG
“DINGO”
3 YEAR OLD MALE
BROWN LAB MIX
LAST SEEN ON BARMET LANE
She doesn’t plan to go searching for him. Really. But the dog was last seen on Ace’s block, so at the very least, Nancy figures she’ll give him a call and see what he knows.
He answers the phone after one ring.
“What’s new, Nancy Drew?”
Nancy rolls her eyes, but she’s smiling. “A dog went missing on your street,” she informs him.
“Dingo,” Ace confirms. “A good boy.”
“Any idea what happened to him?”
Without missing a beat, Ace says, “Dognapped.”
Nancy blinks in surprise. “Really ?”
“I have reason to believe.”
To preserve what little mental health she still has, Nancy knows she should not pursue this missing dog and his potential dognapper. Only seven hours ago, they defeated the Aglaeca and resurrected George. Another sticky situation is the last thing she should involve herself in, no matter how minuscule it seems compared to a malevolent sea spirit.
But then Ace says, “Wanna find him?” and Nancy can’t bring herself to say no.
Before the end of the day, they’ve rescued Dingo and returned him safely to his home.
“No ghosts, no looming threat of death.” Nancy flops down on her couch and kicks her feet up on the coffee table. “That was fun!”
“Yeah,” Ace agrees, plopping down beside her. “I like solving mysteries with you.”
Nancy tries her damndest not to smile.
And fails.
“Though we should probably give ourselves a break,” she suggests. She rolls her head towards him. “You know, find a hobby that doesn’t involve investigating.”
Ace rolls his head towards her. “Or bending the rules.”
“Or breaking them.”
