Work Text:
Rajan approaches him as the party is winding down, following Wolfgang’s gaze as he stops beside him. For a moment, they both watch Kala in silence as she laughs at something Lito has said.
“Do you love her?” Rajan finally asks, and it sounds more like a rhetorical question than an accusation.
“I do,” Wolfgang says. “More than anything.”
“Well,” he says, “that settles it then.”
He raises a brow.
“I could never ask you to stop loving her,” Rajan says, “because I could never imagine such a thing is possible. How can I blame you for only doing what I have done?”
“So, you don’t think we need to talk about this?”
“What would there be to talk about?”
Wolfgang shakes his head. “You really are a good man.”
“Here.” Rajan holds a card out to him.
“What is this?”
It is his turn to raise a brow. “It’s a hotel room key.”
“I see that.”
“205,” he says. “Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
“Rajan,” Wolfgang says, stopping the other man in his tracks.
For a moment, there is a silence between them, an understanding. Wolfgang is so accustomed to his cluster that it takes him this full moment to realize it should not be this easy to understand him so completely. They are very different men. They are the same.
“I should go find Kala,” Rajan says, as if either of them have taken their eyes off of her the entire night. “We wanted to talk to Nomi about our wedding present.”
Wolfgang nods. “Goodnight.”
Rajan smiles, just before he turns away. “I’ll see you later, Wolfgang.”
Felix approaches him almost immediately. “So, did you talk about it?”
The edge of his lip quirks up as he slides the key into his pocket. “No.”
“But you’re smiling?”
He shrugs. “It’s complicated.”
Felix accepts this as stoically as he ever accepts anything, but Wolfgang’s focus is across the room on Kala and on Rajan.
“Wolfie?” Felix says, bringing his attention back.
“Yeah?”
He shakes his head. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
