Work Header

Wednesday morning at the Nithikornkul houshold

Summary:

OR: the one where Mork actively considers strangling his brother.

Because we don't have enough interactions between the brothers and I like they are in a lot of ways very similar.

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

While Mork loved his brother, it was not easy to like him, he thought.
Meen was a very strange boy, always had been. Taking everything way to literal and always believing everything anyone told him.
The amounts of time he had to save his little brother because of his oddness had left Mork wary of the future. He had been quite sure he would not be released of the strange guardianship he had to take over for Meen.

When Duean of Engineering entered his life, Mork had been protective, of course. It was Meen they were talking about. Even though he had absolutely no idea what to do with his baby brother, Duean was … well he was known to be a player, and he did not want Meen to be a part of a tally hanging from a bar.
As Duean and him talked, it became surprisingly clear that decisions had to be made and those decisions impacted not only his brother's future but mostly his own.

So he allowed the courting and dating to happen, and Duean did the same. It was a stalemate, and it left at least him uneasy.

Strangely, things worked out between Meen and his boyfriend. Seeing them together, and they were together a lot, Mork was sure he was not the only one who had no idea how those two made any sense.

Like every Wednesday morning when Meens and Morks schedules aligned, they had no early classes.  Their Mae had made a nice breakfast for them, and they sat outside, next to the pool.
This was when Meen, idiot Meen!, started babbling and talking about the plans for the  weekend, how excited he was to go to Bang Bu Beach with his friends and Mork and mostly Duean, what he had planned with Duean and all of that and Mork nearly died three or four times, because how could he talk so carelessly about it?
And then he did die.  Because his idiot brother gave him a heart attack. At the breakfast table. In front of his Mae. He died at the age of 21. Forsaken by his own brother.

„It took me three weeks,“ rambled the idiot on, „ To  goad Duean into agreeing to Pi sharing a room with Mork. Duean was not happy about it, but I said to him if he wanted to share a room with me, he shouldn’t be so judgmental. Pi is old enough to make his own decisions, and Duean said Pi was a baby, and I said he is older than me and then Duean said I was his baby, and it didn’t count, and I disagreed. I mean, I really love Duean, but he is very stupid sometimes, you know.“
Mork blinked. There was absolutely no way he could damage control this.
Any of this. At all.

His Mae, oddly, started to laugh.
„Oh kiddo, sometimes you are a bit much. Your Duean is a saint for keeping you entertained.“ she shook her head and took a serving of a melon.
She plated it in nice bite size chunks and took the first piece.

Mork still blinked.
„You know they are dating?“ he asked, puzzled.
His Mae looked at him and smiled.
„Sweety, how was I to miss that? Your brother has not stopped talking about Duean, Duean, Duean the whole school year.“
Meen shrieked angrily.
„Mae, do not make fun of me!“

Their Mae grinned.
„Mae, Mae, Mae, Duean made a spoon out of nothing!“ she started enthusiastically, trying to channel her inner Meen. Something they all could do, because honestly, how was his brother so strange?
She always had been  good of getting Meens tone right,  she even did the thing with the hand that his brother did when he was excited. Mork had to give her that, „Mae, Mae, Mae, he is like the coolest. Mae, Mae, Mae, what should I wear. Mae, Mae, Mae, I could not sleep. How is he sooooooo amazing?“
She laughed again and looked seriously at Mork.
„It was incredible hard to catch on, Sweety. Your brother's subtlety was outstanding.“ she said to him.
Mork nodded, flabbergasted.
„Mae, why are you still making fun of me?“ screeched Meen again. „I will call Duean and tell him you are unkind with me!“ With that he left the table.

Mork looked at his Mae.
„Do you know I am dating Pi?“ he asked, heart beating in his chest.
„Of course I do, Sweety. You are really not subtle yourself. Someone just has to say his name, and you can’t stop smiling. Its really adorable.“
„I have no idea how I fell in love with a misanthropic little garden gnome, but he is the cutest, Mae! I really like him a lot.“ he heard himself say, obviously losing his mind.
„I know, Sweety.“ she said again.

Mork looked at his Mae.
He wanted to say things, like a lot of them, but his brother came back from upstairs with their backpacks in tow. „We are going to be late.“

And so they left.
