Looping in time, Wei Wuxian decides, isn’t too bad.
The first few times he got frustrated, because his experiments hadn’t progressed and he was at a loss as to why.
But once he’d got the hang of it he found a lot of uses for time loops.
For one, he had a whole day, dawn to dawn, and there was a lot of places you could go in one day and a lot of things to learn.
Wei Wuxian had all the muscle memory for most of the things he liked to do already, so learning new songs, creating new spells and memorising them was nothing. It was actually a wonderfully useful opportunity for him to grow – not as a person – but as a master.
The only drawback he could find was that Lan Wangji never seemed to remember how clever he’d been the day before, and the more days went by the more Wei Wuxian found himself waking up and heading straight to the other man. His day didn’t seem fun without at least a little conversation, a little teasing. And who was he to deny himself.
Except the more times he did it, the more ways he poked and prodded Lan Wangji sitting at the little in down the hill from the Burial Hill, the more he noticed cracks. Cracks! In Lan Wangji! It was his duty, of course, and knowing the other man would never even remember them, to poke at those cracks a little harder.
It came to a head when Lan Wangji pushed him into a wall when Wei Wuxian had gotten him a little drunk and then kissed him thoroughly. What followed – well Wei Wuxian might wake up a virgin every day, but in his heart, he wasn’t.
It opened up a new door, an exciting interesting door. And sitting across from Lan Wangji teasing him while he was sober until he got that look in his eyes was amazing. But teasing him until he did something about it?
Let’s just say Wei Wuxian was a little disappointed to find out that having Lan Wangji confess his undying love to him was the key to unlocking the loop. But not too disappointed, because after all, he got Lan Wangji.
