Chapter Text
“Paige, where are we going?” Owen asked as they continued their hike. It had been sort of a roller coaster since their arrival to the island, everything was happening so fast. It was like old times again, catching her up on what happened in the outside world. Their stores about how they were able to get out of jail and their hunt for her and Maisie. She didn’t have the heart to tell them, instead insisting that she show them.
The slope was becoming harder to get up now, but Paige knew that they were almost there now. The three young raptors moved beside them, the oldest pressing himself against her aiding her in the climb. The female had attached herself to her father, pressing herself more against his back to make sure that he didn’t continue to lose his footing. As for the youngest, Claire had his arm around his neck helping her upwards as much as he could. Angel and Blue were further ahead picking out a safe path for the three humans to take.
“We are almost there.”
“But where is there?” Claire questioned.
“You’ll see.” Paige reassured as Angel hummed from where he waited on a ledge. Lowering his neck, Paige wrapped her arms around his neck allowing him to pull her up and on the ledge. Placing her down, he turned his attention to Claire who was fast approaching. Blue was staring out over the trees, her eyes scanning the coast in the distance. The sky held purple clouds with red highlights, as the lowering sun bathed the world in an amber color.
A stone sat beside her carved with a rough cross and littered in flowers, some freshly picked others long since dead. Another smaller rock was sitting a few paces away, with another cross carved into the face.
“Paige, what is this?”
“...” Paige tried to get her thoughts to actually work correctly. How do you tell someone their kid was dead, because she pushed you out of the way? “Um…” Paige tried to find the words she wanted to say. “I’m sorry…” Was all she managed to say, the tears starting to form. Claire was frozen staring at the few stones, her eyes landing on the largest of the rocks.
“Paige, what is…” Claire mumbled off, noticed the poorly scrawled along the bottom of the stone. Maisie . Claire practically burst into tears, as Owen turned his attention to his youngest.
“What happened…?” Owen question.
“She saved all of us.” Paige whispered, gesturing to the group of raptors that surrounded them. Angel stepped forward a soft purr echoing from his throat, pressing his head against Paige’s shoulder before pushing her back towards the two older humans. Arms were wrapping around her pulling her into embraces, and she didn’t bother to fight them. A thundering roar echoed across the horizon, a shadow seemingly moving across the ground. The trio froze as the raptors raised their heads towards the towering t-rex as she gave off a faint hum.
“Heya Rexy…” Paige grinned up at the dinosaur as she gave off a thundering noise before lowering her head towards them. “I’m okay, we all are.” Paige smiled up at the tyrannosaurus rex. Everything was going to be okay.
