Work Text:
“What, what?” Yoongi asks quietly, staring at Hoseok as he giggles to himself about the joke he just made. Yoongi’s cheeks heat up, realizing what Hoseok said before trying to laugh it off a bit with everyone else too.
Thankfully, the interview goes on, but Yoongi can’t hear Hoseok’s explanation due to everyone laughing or talking over each other. He sits quietly for the next bit, mind going wild as he thinks about what just happened.
—
As everyone is saying their goodbyes, Yoongi uses it as a chance to dash off, but, unfortunately, he’s been caught.
“Hyung! Hyung! Hey, where are you going? I thought we were going to eat together after the interview?” Hoseok asks as he catches up to Yoongi.
Yoongi blushes. “Oh, sorry, Soso-yah. I forgot, but Hyung can still go,” Yoongi says, quietly cursing past Yoongi for setting this up.
“Perfect! Let’s just go to some place nearby since you seem so eager to get to whatever you need to go to after,” Hoseok says jokingly, but Yoongi isn’t sure about what it means when his tone drops at the end.
“No, no! It’s okay, seriously. You can pick wherever, Soso. I don’t have anything to do after,” Yoongi lies smoothly, forgetting about the unfinished songs he has sitting on his desk top at the moment.
Hoseok’s eyes light up, and Yoongi swears he sees stars in them. “Great! I know this good KBQQ we can go to; it even has private rooms, so we won’t be disturbed while we eat.”
“That sounds perfect, Hoseok-ah,” Yoongi replies.
The two of them hop into a company car after briefly telling a manager where they’re going, and the ride is pleasant enough with the two of them catching up a bit. Yoongi always feels like he never gets enough time with the other man, even though he probably spends the most time with Hoseok out of all of the members.
“Hyung, I think I’m really liking this new hair style,” Hoseok says offhandedly as he looks at his reflection in his phone camera, and Yoongi uses that line as a chance to just stare at Hoseok. “What do you think?”
Yoongi’s mouth suddenly goes dry as he tries to think of something that will not out his tiny tiny crush on Hoseok. “Uh…” Yoongi trails off.
Hoseok frowns. “Hyung, if you don’t like it, you can just say it.” Hoseok runs a few fingers through his hair. “Does it really look that bad? I don’t generally look at the mean comments, but some of them say that it doesn’t loo-“
Yoongi is quick to cut him off. “No! No! Hoseok, I really like your new hair style; it’s very….adorable and handsome.”
“Thank you, hyung,” Hoseok says quietly with a small smile.
Yoongi wants to say more to assure the younger man, but the car is suddenly stopping in front of the restaurant. They put on masks before heading in, and it seems that Hoseok already made reservations because they’re being ushered into a private room quickly before other peering patrons may see them.
They sit down, and the waitress takes their drinks and meat order before scurrying away.
Suddenly, with the waitress gone and the room empty, it gets quiet between the two men, unusually so since Hoseok generally has a lot to say to Yoongi. However, Yoongi supposes that Hoseok spoke a lot on the way to the restaurant, so it makes sense if he ran out of things to speak of.
Part of him wonders if Hoseok expects him to say something, if anything, about earlier, and his cheeks heat up at the thought. What was he even supposed to say to the younger man about it? That he likes it when Hoseok calls him his own? That’s stepping over tons of unspoken lines as not only idols and coworkers, but as best friends as well.
Yoongi bites his lip, thinking about the line for a moment before looking up to Hoseok as he’s doing something on his phone.
Hoseok, probably sensing eyes on him, puts his phone down and looks at Yoongi with curious puppy eyes. “Hyung, is something wrong?”
Yoongi shakes his head, blush lightly forming. “No, sorry. I’m just thinking Hoba,” Yoongi mumbles as he averts his eyes from Hoseok.
“You can talk to me, if you’d like, hyungie.” The soft ‘hyungie’ makes Yoongi’s heart beat uncontrollably fast. “You know I’m always here for you.”
“Well it’s just-“ he’s interrupted by a knock on the door.
The waitress comes in with their meat and drinks before disappearing again. “What were you saying?” Hoseok asks curiously with a quirked eyebrow, but Yoongi shakes his head.
“Nothing. Let hyung cook this,” he mumbles, disappointed by the sudden loss.
Hoseok shrugs. “Okay, whatever you say.”
Hoseok goes on and talks about random things from setting up a dog play date with their dogs to what he had for breakfast that morning, but, if Yoongi were to be honest, he’s not really following Hoseok’s words all that closely. Yoongi just can’t stop thinking about what Hoseok said earlier in the interview.
He thinks he interrupts Hoseok’s sentence, but he’s too focused to really think about that as he asks, “Hoseok, did you mean what you said in the interview?”
Hoseok stops for a moment, and Yoongi can see the gears turning in his head as he processes Yoongi’s words. “What I said?” Hoseok pauses for a second before laughing. “Oh! Yeah! The trend thing! Let me show you it!”
Hoseok takes out his phone and pulls up some kind of clock app that Yoongi’s fairly certain they’ve made videos together for the app, but Yoongi suddenly gets it.
“Oh, you said ‘ねこ’ not…” Yoongi trails off, focusing back to the meat as he tries (and probably fails to) hold back a pout.
Hoseok frowns. “What did you think I said? Your feelings aren’t hurt, right hyung? It’s just a joke since you look so much like a cat.”
“No, no, it’s fine Soso-yah! I swear.” Yoongi attempts to persuade the younger man, but he can tell its not working.
“Hyung, what did you think I said?” Hoseok asks, suddenly serious.
Yoongi blushes. “It’s really not a big deal, Hoseok-ah,” he mumbles, but Hoseok’s persistent. “Fine, I thought you said ‘내꺼’ not ‘ねこ’.”
Hoseok pauses for a moment before giggling. “I see, hyung. What would you have said if I would’ve said ‘내꺼’?”
Before he can stop himself, he answers, “I would’ve said it’s true.” The words make the world stop for a moment because they’re honest, and Yoongi’s sure that Hoseok knows he’s not joking around this time.
“Hyung, I-“
Yoongi shakes his head quickly. “No, just forget I said that. Let hyung give you some meat; it’s done.” Yoongi fills Hoseok’s rice bowl up, trying to ignore the younger man’s piercing stare as he focuses on the meat again.
Yoongi’s able to pass the meat out, but Hoseok is persistent. “Do you want to be mine? For real?”
Yoongi sighs, hiding his blushing face with his hands as he nods. “Yeah, I thought it was obvious all this time.”
“How long?” Considering he was just confessed to, Hoseok looks eerily calm.
“Basically since I laid eyes on you, Hoseok-ah; let’s be honest.” Yoongi can’t even make eye contact with Hoseok as he speaks.
Hoseok quietly chuckles. “Well, hyung, this is very…”
Yoongi cringes as Hoseok trails off. “You don’t have to say anything back. I understand that you don’t have feelings for me, and I-
Hoseok quickly interrupts. “Who said I don’t have feelings for you?”
Yoongi bites his lip nervously. “You like me back?” Yoongi asks quietly.
“I thought it was obvious. Namjoon always said that he thought I was actively pursuing you, but I guess I really wasn’t,” Hoseok admits almost shyly.
“Why not?” Yoongi can’t help the question.
“Why not? Hyung…are you joking?” Hoseok doesn’t sound mad; he more sounds a bit fond.
“No, I guess that’s a stupid question considering who we are,” Yoongi mumbles as he rubs the back of his neck from embarrassment.
“Hyung, is this something you would like to try? I know that our careers are a huge factor in this, but… I’m sick of just not doing anything about it, especially after all this time.” Hoseok sounds and looks sincere, and Yoongi can’t really believe that this is happening right now.
“I would like to try it. I’m getting pretty sick of just…sitting around too,” Yoongi answers honestly.
“Should this be our first date then?” Hoseok asks with a large smile, making Yoongi’s heart beat wildly.
“That sounds wonderful.” Yoongi watches as Hoseok suddenly stands up. “What are you doing?”
Hoseok sits next to Yoongi. “I’m sitting next to my date. Why? Can I not sit next to my date?”
Yoongi makes an embarrassed sound in the back of his throat as he whines. “Oh my god; you don’t have to keep throwing that word around.”
“I’m going to keep doing it; this is fun, making you all flustered.” Hoseok looks a bit proud of himself.
Yoongi rolls his eyes. “You’re acting as if you don’t clam up every time I even look at you.”
Hoseok blushes. “That’s an exaggeration,” Hoseok mumbles.
“It’s not far from the truth,” Yoongi says, getting a bit more confident at the sight of Hoseok becoming shy. But, Hoseok doesn’t say anything more, and Yoongi becomes a bit heated under his stare. “Why are you staring?”
“Hyung, can I kiss you?” Yoongi stutters for a moment, not expecting the question. “You don’t have to, obviously, if you don’t want to.”
“No! I do want to kiss you! I just wasn’t expecting this,” Yoongi says quickly.
“Well, then kiss m-“ Yoongi doesn’t let Hoseok finish the sentence and rushes forward, accidentally bumping their faces instead of kissing. “Ouch, you’re so eager,” Hoseok mumbles.
Yoongi’s about to apologize, but Hoseok cups Yoongi’s face gently before actually kissing the older man. Yoongi laces his fingers in Hoseok’s hair and shirt, feeling euphoric as their lips find a rhythm between them.
When they pull away from each other, Yoongi can’t help but whisper, “Wow.”
Hoseok chuckles. “Wow indeed.”
