He snapped his mouth shut and turned back to his History homework silently.

Shinsou looked up to see Denki had stopped talking and got back to his homework quietly and frowned.

"Why'd you stop talking? I was listening."

Work Text:

It was a pretty basic Friday afternoon and the Bakusquad was hanging around Bakugou's desk like usual, as Denki was deep into explaining something.

"-and then he tried to do that on me! Me! But I already knew all his tricks and then I was like-"

"Oh my god. Do you ever shut the fuck up?" Bakugou cut in and Denki froze.

"..w-what?" He stuttered out. Kirishima scratched the back of his neck as he inhaled sharply.

"I mean.. you're always talking dude.. it gets old, no offense!" Kirishima rushed to say at the end, as if that reassured him. Denki quickly looked down slightly and put a forced smile on his face as he looked up. Sero voiced his agreement.

"Yeah dude... you never seem to stop.." Mina paid no mind to the squad at all as she typed away furiously at her phone.

"Oh... sorry." He said and turned to look out the window. No one seemed to notice as they got back to their own conversations.

No one except a certain insomniac who realized this change in his mood as soon as he entered the classroom.

***

Denki was quiet a lot during classes now, but the Bakusquad didn't bat an eye to it. Everyone else seemed to though. Even Present Mic and Aizawa honed in on his odd behavior. He was a lot more reserved and didn't talk as much. Even in Mic's class. And everyone knew how much he loved English class. He seemed to stray behind the Bakusquad a lot more instead of trying to fight Mina for the front. Denki was on his phone a lot more. It's not like he wasnt on his phone, but now it's almost always. When they're at lunch. When the Bakusquad grouped together. During free period. And then he always went straight back to his room after class, or he was seen training. He was also caught turning in finished homework as well. Whether he filled it all out correctly or not. This didn't necessarily concern people, but it was odd that he was never usually seen around the Bakusquad anyone besides in school. And how he was taking his academics seriously (which, again, wasn't a bad thing! It was just unusual for the blond).

This went on for about 2-3 weeks or so and it was a night Shinsou asked the (now quiet) blond if they could hang out and it completely caught Denki off guard but he agreed nontheless. And when Denki started talking about one of things he told the Bakusquad as he noticed the lack of responses or answers from the purplenette. He paused mid-sentence.

"Oh my god. Do you ever shut the fuck up?"

"You're always talking dude.. it gets old, no offense!"

"Yeah dude... you never seem to stop.."

He snapped his mouth shut and turned back to his History homework silently.

Shinsou looked up to see Denki had stopped talking and got back to his homework quietly and frowned.

"Why'd you stop? I was listening."

This startled Denki and his neck snapped up.

"Huh?"

"You were sayng something about one of your old classmates from a couple years ago then just stopped. What happened next?" He asked and Denki brightened up. He eventually moved over to sit on the bed next to Shinsou as he told him the old story, and the blond eventually fell asleep at the foot of the bed. His face buried in Shinsou's leg. Shinsou didn't mind as he stretched to reach a blanket and placed it gently over Denki's resting body. Now he just needed to figure out what happened with Denki...

***

Shinsou had conversed with his adoptive fathers about and they seemed concerned that their usual cheery student wasn't having the best time. They even discreety asked their students if they know anything about why Denki is a lot more reserved, but no one knew what was up. But Shinsou saw Sero's shameful look he had when telling Pops that there was nothing he could remember. Mic reassured Sero it was fine and told him to go back to his seat, and his Pops and him shared a look and they both nodded.

At the end of the school day Shinsou pulled Sero back into the classroom as he tried to leave, leaving only the two students in the classroom.

"What did you tell him?"

He asked vaguely, but Sero seemed to know what he was talking about as he stiffened and stood up straighter.

"I-u-uh-"

"No. I don't want your sorry excuses. I want to know what you guys said that's made him so.. so... so sad. And reserved. Quiet." He spat. "He's usually happy, energetic, talkative. He was surprised that I told him to continue talking." He said, angered by his so called friends, and when Sero flinched at that he raised an eyebrow. "Oh-ho. It has something to do with that huh? What. Did. You. Do?" He growled out and slammed his hand against the wall that he pushed Sero against and Sero raised his hands up in a surrending way.

"Okay, okay!" He blurted out. "It started with Bakugou and Kirishima pointing out how much he talks! I mean come on man, you know what I'm sayng, right!?" He asked, expecting Shinsou's agreement, but when he recieved no answer, he covered the silence with a cough. "Anyways, I agreed with the two of them because he doesn't know when to stop! We were just telling the truth." He frowned at Shinsou's behavior as if he had grown a second head. Did they really think this about Denki? Shinsou inhaled and exhaled to keep his calm. He didn't hear anything about Mina.

"Was Mina apart of this at all?" He asked as he tried to keep his cool.

"Uh, no? She's been pretty wrapped up in her phone lately and she wasn't paying attention when we talked about that. She's actually been on her phone a lot all month." He said and Shinsou shakely exhaled.

"Close, e-fucking-nough." He said and exited the classroom, letting Sero be the only one left.

Sero let out a shaky breath as he clutched his pounding chest.

***

Mina was texting away on her phone as she whistled one of Lady Gaga's songs. She was texting her cousins over in Canada, asking when they were coming to Japan.

Mina's seen a lot of confusing things in her lifetime.

But Mina was more than confused when Shinsou had knocked on her door telling her they were going to leave in 10 minutes, telling her she better hurry to get dressed. She was lucky she did her makeup in the morning and didn't take it off yet. She quickly changed out of her lounge clothes and threw on some ripped jeans with fishnets underneath, and a light yellow crop top. She also grabbed a belt and put it on and clipped a chain on as well. She grabbed a purse as well as she clipped on a necklace Denki had gotten her for her birthday. It was a heart with an infinity sign going in and around it. It looked expensive which made her take even better care of it. She quickly grabbed her phone from the charger and hopped on one foot to get her second shoe on as she closed her door and locked it. She then basically sprinted to Shinsou's room and knocked on it.

There was a faint 'come in', and she took that as he cue to open up the door. There was Shinsou sitting on his bed with Denki laying on Shinsou's stomach, on his own stomach, talking to him about something. The blond saw Mina and immediatly snapped his mouth shut. This made Mina frown in confusion, but she quickly covered it up and looked to the insomniac.

"So where'r we going?" She asked as she rocked on the balls of her feet. Shinsou ushered Denki up and stretched.

"We're going to be going to a cat cafe." He explained and both Denki and Mina looked excited.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"

***

As they made they're way into the cafe, Shinsou and Denki's hands intertwined, Mina pretended to not see it and saw the greatful look Shinsou gave her. She decided to fill the uncomfortable silence with talking. She talked about how her cousins from Canada were coming to Japan next month, and how that was the reason she was on her phone a lot. They sat down as Mina grabbed a cat and say them in her lap as she pet it. A waitress that had cat ears and tail (she fit right in and looked adorable!) smiled warmly as she asked for their orders. Shinsou decided on a black coffee, Mina decided on Raspberry Lemonade, and when it was Denki's turn he didn't seem to want to talk so Mina looked to the waitress.

"A hot chocolate with chocolate chips, extra marshmellows, and extra wip cream please!" She said cheerfully and the waitress nodded and wrote it down."

"We'll have your drinks out soon." She bowed slightly and she walked off. Denki looked surprised and looked at his pink friend.

"Y-you remember what I like to order?" He asked and Mina raised an eyebrow.

"Uh, yeah? Why wouldn't I?" She asked.

"I d'unno. I thought that you would be annoyed of my talking.." He said sadly and Mina's eyebrows shot up.

"Whaaaat?" She drug the word out. "Your talking could never annoy me, babes!" She assured the blond. "Plus if it did that would be like, hella hypocritical of me. I talk a lot too." She said with a shoulder shrug. She hummed as she looked down at her phone then she paused and froze as her gaze shot up to look at the electric user. "Wait is that why you've been quiet lately?" She asked and she geniunely looked sad.

"W-what?" Denki asked, startled.

"Have you been quiet because you thought I- the class, found your talking annoying?" She asked.

He shrugged and leaned onto Shinsou. "I mean, Sero, Bakugou, and Kirishima said I was starting to get annoying. A-and how I talk a lot." He mumbled and Mina's eyes widened a good portion.

"I'm sorry, what!?" She asked, raising her voice slightly. He shrugged in affirmination. "Oh hell no. I'm going to be having a talk with them." She said firmly as she moved the cat in her lap, and got up to scooch in Shinsou's and Denki's side of the booth, she then pulled him into a hug. "I will never, ever, get annoyed of your talking. I love your goofy ideas and all of the stories you tell. Plus I don't really like silence and you always sucecced in filling the in the quiet. I love you and everything about you babe. Your my best friend and if those buttheads fail to see how amazing you are, then they don't deserve to be my friend either." She said matter-of factly. Denki froze from her words before returning the hug as he silently sobbed into her shoulder. Shinsou smiled at their interaction and quietly pet the cat on his lap.

And well, it the waitress slipped him a cookie or two, the others didn't say anything.
