Chapter Text
Korone sighed as she looked out the window. The train finally had made it to the city, but the rain had as well. Despite this though, as they neared the station, her smile hadn’t faded one bit.
‘She’ll be there… In front of me...’ After so long away at college, she practically bounced in her seat at the thought. ‘Video calls aren’t the same… I want to see her.’
The dog anima chuckled as she imagined how the cat felt. For the longest time it seemed like she would always state something like: ‘I want to kiss you right now’ or ‘I miss you’. The way her girlfriend sighed tore at Korone’s heart.
‘But now!’ Her grin widened. ‘I bet she’s about as excited as I am… if not more.’
Regardless, it did not make her excitement any less abundant as the train slowly pulled to a stop. With ease she grabbed the cases she brought with her and waited at the door, tail already wagging.
Before they were even fully open, the dog anima rushed out of the train car and looked around. Not seeing any sign of her girlfriend, she quickly pushed through the first wave of the crowd to spot something familiar further away. Immediately Korone ran towards her twice as fast and jumped forward to pull her into a hug.
“OKAYU!”
“KOROSAN!” The cat anima laughed and held her just as tightly. For a moment, just being there was enough. Getting to feel her girlfriend’s warmth and hear her once again was enough to make Korone cry. “K-Korosan.” Okayu chuckled and wiped away the dog anima’s tears.
“O-okayu...” She sniffed.
Her girlfriend hummed and held her cheek before kissing her.
“Yup, I’m here.”
“Okayu...” Korone smiled as Okayu cleaned her face. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.” She kissed her again and sighed. She then leaned against her girlfriend, who blinked. “I...really did.”
Taking a deep breath, the dog held her slightly tighter.
“I’m not going away again. I promise.” Gently, she ran a hand through the cat’s hair. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“...We should get going.” Without warning, Okayu pulled away with a smile. “You had a really long ride, right? It’s… probably for the best that we get you home first.”
“’Kayu…?” Korone frowned and took her hand again. “When we get back… why don’t we get lunch together?”
Immediately Okayu’s ears perked up.
“Hm… that sounds good.”
“...Okayu?”
“Hm?”
Korone pulled her back close to her. “K-korosan?” Humming, the dog anima gently took her cheek and kissed her again.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Okayu blinked before leaning into her touch with a smile.
“I know...”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Mio sighed as they walked to her apartment door. It had been raining all day, putting a hold on a lot of plans they had. However, she was dating one of the most stubborn people in the city.
“Oh gosh, that was so good!” Her girlfriend stretched her arms above her head. “We should definitely go there again someday!”
“Mhm,” the wolf anima chuckled. “You certainly got your fill there.”
“Hey, it was a deal too good to pass up!”
“I know, I know!” She laughed before looking back to her door and sighing.
“Mio?”
“Hm?”
“...Are you still worried about tomorrow?”
“...Maybe a little,” she admitted.
“Mio...” Her girlfriend put her hands to her hips and frowned. “How long have you known her?”
“...A long time.”
“And how long were you her friend?”
“A long time.”
“So...” She smiled and nudged her. “Why would this ruin a friendship like that?”
“I just… you know!” Mio sighed and her ears fell. “Not many people are in a relationship with more than one person...”
“Doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be up for it! And technically, she’d just be dating you unless I fall for her too!”
“I know,” the wolf anima took a deep breath before chuckling slightly. “Sorry, this is really silly.”
“No, it isn’t.” Her girlfriend huffed and took her hands. “It’s okay to be nervous about this! You’re asking someone out! But! You’ve done it before, right?”
“Y-yeah I did...” Mio looked away with a blush. “Geeze, how come you’re so calm about this? It effects you too...”
“Hm, that’s true… But...” She grinned. “I guess it’s because you’re going to be there! Even if it’s a little nerve wracking, we’ll be there together!” She pulled Mio closer and kissed her cheek. “So don’t worry, okay?”
Mio smiled before kissing her back, tail breaking free to wag.
“Thanks, Subaru.”
“Anytime!” Subaru laughed. “You know I’ve always got your back!”
“I do!” Mio laughed as well before squeezing her hands. “Really…”
“Hm?”
“I love you, Subaru.”
“Heh, I love you too, Miosha!”
“Oh where is she?” Mio sighed and checked her phone. Glancing around her proved fruitless as the flow of the street prevented her from seeing if her girlfriend was nearby or not. “If we’re not careful, we might miss the train...” She shook her head. “Hopefully she didn’t stay up too late...”
Mio smiled as she caught the sight of her picture for Subaru’s contact.
It was her surprised look as she found out that Mio had kept the Valentine box Subaru gave her while asking her out.
‘How long has it been…? High school? Since then, she hasn’t changed much.’ She chuckled to herself. ‘Maybe that’s a good thing?...Yup, definitely a good thing...in some aspects.’ The wolf sighed again. ‘She hasn’t gotten better with time management though.’
“Miooooooshaaaaaaa!”
The wolf’s ears swiveled before she turned her head to find Subaru running towards her.
“Ah! There you are!”
“S-sorry...” Subaru slowed down to stop and kiss her cheek. “I was busy preparing the papers...”
“You don’t have to rush it, you know?” Mio chuckled. “The students won’t be coming until later this month. Unless you’ve been slacking…?”
“I-I haven’t!” The woman huffed. “I just ran into a problem with the school’s paperwork is all!”
“Oh? Do you need any help? I already finished mine.”
“Eh?! How?! It’s only been-”
“Mio?! Subaru?!”
Both of them froze.
“Wait...” ‘I know that voice...’ Mio blinked. “There’s no way-”
Before either of them could move, they were both rammed by a blur that quickly picked them both up in an awkward hug.
“Mio! Subaru!”
“Korone?! I thought you were still unpacking?!” ‘I know she’s strong but unpacking her apartment in a few days?’
The dog anima laughed and put them down to let them catch their breath.
“I am! But I needed a bit of a break first. I slept for nearly a whole day after the train ride back!”
“She did,” a cat anima chimed in, trailing behind her at a leisurely pace. “Now she wants to see how the city has changed.”
“Okayu!” Mio smiled at the two of them, only for her eyes to widen as Okayu waved and the wolf anima caught a shine of metal on her hand. ‘Ah, good to see those two are doing well.’
Korone seemed to have noticed her realization and smirked.
“So what are you two up to? I thought you would’ve been busy with the school year coming up,” Okayu hummed.
“Ah, we’re on our way to visit Fubuki, actually!”
“Oh?”
The anima pair glanced at one another.
‘Oi, don’t tell me...’ “What is it?”
“Oh nothing!” Korone laughed while waving her hands. “Just surprised you’re actually going through with it, Mio~”
“W-what’s that supposed to mean?!”
“I did have to psych her up a bit, actually!” Subaru added.
“Subaru!”
“Not surprised in the slightest~” Okayu chuckled and walked over to the woman. “Mio’s like Korosan: a huge softy~”
“Okayu!”
“Oi!”
The canines’ girlfriends laughed.
“Ugh, well with that call-out...” Korone huffed. “I suppose we should let you guys get going.” She smiled at the wolf. “Just let us know if you need wingmen!”
“We will,” Mio chuckled. “Though hopefully my heart can take these two being in the same room...”
“Heh, good luck with that one!” Korone turned back to their girlfriends. “Right, Oka- eh?” Only to find their spot empty.
“Mioshaaaaaa!”
The wolf glanced over at the station, where a cat anima was dragging a distressed Subaru by the arm inside.
“Come on, don’t wanna be late for your date!”
“Subaru, oi!” Korone huffed and chased after them. “You let Okayu go!”
“She’s the one pulling me!” The woman shouted. “Miosha! Help!”
Mio watched the two tugging on each other get tackled by the dog anima before she started laughing hard.
“M-Miosha?! Oi?!”
“I’m coming, I’m coming!” The wolf anima wiped her eyes but kept laughing as she went to join the three. “Wait for me!”
