Cartoon Cats and Declarations of War

Summary:

July 5: Lazzo

Work Text:

Lazzo perches on the wooden chair, eyes squinting in concentration. In one hand he brandishes a green marker, while the other rests lightly on the enamel wrist of an android. He is painstakingly sketching out the outline of a cat in the small space that remains between colourful doodles. While Tayla was very grateful for the new arm, she had not been impressed with its blandness. They had taken it upon themselves to liven it up a little. The original white could now barely be seen beneath the riot of swirls and creatures that adorn the limb.

“And … there!” Lazzo grins. The cartoon cat stares back with wide eyes, crouched and ready to pounce.

Tayla twists her arm to look at it and snorts. “What’s that supposed to be, a weird tentacle monster?”

Lazzo pouts. “It’s a cat! Look, it’s got the whiskers and everything.”

They share a brief moment of silence, staring at the graffiti’d arm. Lazzo had been through a lot to get that arm and he was glad to have that chapter of his life (mostly) behind him, even if it did leave him broke as fuck. Since then, Tayla and him had been closer than ever, frequently hanging out at the youth shelter for games nights like this (not that they could afford much else).

Lazzo points at Tayla. “I challenge you to the most gruesome of battles …” He pauses for effect, flourishing his arms dramatically.

Tayla grins, teeth bared. “Connect Four, you mean? What’s the score now, 14 to 0? You sure you wanna do that?”

Lazzo nods eagerly. “Yup! I just know that this is my night.”
