Chapter Text

Ajay wasn’t expecting things to be just peachy keen only the day after the whole incident with Octavio’s father (and really she’s still somewhat regretting not pulling that trigger), but it was still odd to see him not quite moping around, but definitely not himself, especially after the beginnings of their little plan, but she really couldn’t blame him. Things still felt tense, to say the least; They were both probably still feeling the effects.

Probably would be for a while, even after they managed to set things in motion.

Beyond that, she could see he was thinking. Really thinking, and right about now that was the last thing the pair of them needed.

When he actually put it to use, Octavio had one of the brightest minds she'd ever encountered, between putting together his stunts or concocting that drug cocktail of his; he was much smarter than he looked at a glance. Right now, that just so happened to be their biggest advantage. His father would never acknowledge that he was intelligent, or capable, or anything else that had him admitting in some way that his son was actually worth something, and Ajay had every intention of using that against him.

Tomorrow though. Seeing him like this was more than enough to prove that a bit of a distraction was in order. Tomorrow they could start planning the glorious downfall of one Duardo Silva. For now, it seemed like a good time to bring about some better thoughts for him, and the medic at least had some place to start.

She actually didn't like the lack of protest to taking a little walk around Solace; no comments about how unbearably boring just walking around doing nothing would be or anything of the sort. Nothing blatantly Octavio. Just a simple agreement that getting out for a minute and maybe getting some boba sounded good.

It did actually sound good.

Half an hour later and she's got peach boba in her hand and he's got lime something-or-other (by this point she's sure the boy just lives off the color rather than any actual flavor preferences) in his and things were still quiet.

"You know you shouldn't let this eat at you." She murmured, looking over at him and he shrugged slightly, a noncommittal answer. "Yeah, I know." Ajay knew it was easier said than done, but she'd seen him block this shit out so easily before; it was a little hard to find what exactly had been different that made it such a tipping point for him.

She knew Octavio; knew there was a fine balance between needing to push him and needing to just let things go. Even after knowing him for so long, Ajay still had some difficulty discerning what was needed sometimes. She didn't get the chance to decide before he was talking again though.

"'Sides, he's right, y'know. Always have been a massive fuck up and black spot to the oh so spotless Silva name. El hijo de puta se lo merece."

There was quiet after that as he found a bench and decidedly took a seat with Ajay following suit. Yet, despite the abnormal behavior and angry words, his tone, his body language - he didn't seem all that upset. Still doesn't when she spoke just a moment later.

“Silva-”

“Ain’t a Silva anymore; you heard him.”

Ajay pursed her lips and watched him take a particularly long, slow sip of boba.

“Could always be an honorary Che.” It took a moment or two, but that got him to snort, almost choke on one of the tapioca beads and really that probably shouldn’t make her smile, but it does and soon enough he is too and that’s good enough for her. “Think I’ll have to pass on that, chica. Think I’m good on family drama for this lifetime.”

“Can’t blame you there.”

The earlier worry of actually getting Octavio to sit still faded pretty quickly after that, especially when he leaned up against her and she raised a hand to ruffle his already messy hair to which he grumbled about her messing it all up and she snorted softly, just basking in the fading tension and the dimming sunlight. She kept them that way for a good few minutes.

"We'll beat him at his own game, O. Won't know what hit him." Her words were punctuated with an overly dramatic, overly loud yawn from the man. "Yeah, yeah, yeah; tomorrow though, Che; I'm beat."

He sat up as he spoke, grinning at her. "Race you back?" Ajay sighed, but smiled herself. "Not betting against you. Y'know that." Despite that being neither a 'yes' or a 'no', Octavio was already off. She rolled her eyes but set off after him, grin still in place.

Ajay would have to keep an eye on him to be sure, but that was much better behavior; more like him.

Now that was the Tavi she liked to see.
