Once checking in on Clary Jace knew there was only one place he wanted to go. With purposeful strides he made the short distance from Clary’s room and knocked on Alec’s door. After a few minutes passed, Jace sighed and tentatively opened the door. With a quick sweep of the room and it’s ensuite Jace finds it empty. “Of course,” he muttered to himself as he rerouted to the next place he figured Alec would be.
Just to be sure that Alec wasn’t in the training room Jace poked his head in as he passed. Seeing it empty he headed to Alec’s favoured spot to clear his head- the roof. As he made his way, Jace tried to feel through the parabatai bond, he wasn’t surprised to find that it had been dulled. He could just about make out that Alec was feeling all sorts of negative emotions, yet he was unable to specifically identify any.
He took a calming breath before opening the door to the roof and stepping through. Immediately he spotted Alec, firing arrows methodically, lost in his own world. Jace cleared his throat to alert Alec of his presence as he walked up behind him. He placed one hand on Alec’s left shoulder and felt a jolt of hurt inside him as Alec tensed to the touch.
“Hey,” Jace’s voice was soft and calm, “can we talk?”
Alec took a moment before lowering his bow, he turned on the spot and placed his bow and quiver down, leaning them against the wall. He made a gesture for Jace to continue as he protectively crossed his arms over his chest.
“I know you Alec, better than you know yourself most of the time, I can feel that there’s something wrong and I want to help.” Jace reached out towards Alec, his fingertips brushed against Alec’s arm before he thought better of it and withdrew his hand. “Is this about the memory demon?” Alec merely shrugged so Jace continued. “Because you know that my memory would’ve been of you too right?”
Alec sighed, he shifted his feet uncomfortably. “Then why did you look so shocked and...repulsed when you saw what mine was.”
Something in Jace snapped, he stepped forward into Alec’s personal space and seized both of his arms. “Shocked, yes, I had figured that it would’ve been Izzy or Max that you loved the most. Repulsed? Alec I…” Jace waited until Alec made eye contact with him, “Alec I could never, never , be repulsed by you.”
Alec looked at him skeptically, Jace did his best to prove his honesty with both his facial expression and over the bond. Something finally clicked as Alec’s body released a little of the tension. “You can’t be sure of that,” Alec looked away, facing off into the distance at the city skyline.
“Try me,” Jace crossed his arms in front of his chest with a defiant look on his face.
Alec opened and closed his mouth a few times, with a roll of his eyes he straightened his stance and found his voice. “I don’t love you like a parabatai should love you,” Alec mumbled, fists clenched.
Jace merely shrugged, somehow his exterior remained calm and relaxed despite his heart racing. “And what if I didn’t love you the way a parabatai should, would you then be repulsed by me?”
Alec’s response was immediate, “of course not!”
“Then why would it be different for you?” Jace tilted his head slightly to one side.
“I...Uh…” Alec stammered, “because I’m gay and you’re not, we both know how homophobic the clave is.”
Jace chuckled, he dropped his arms and held one of Alec’s hands in each of his. “And I’m bisexual, just because I can pass as straight doesn’t mean my heart agrees.” In a rare act Jace let a little vulnerability show, “and you’re not alone Alec, I feel the same way about you.”
Alec frowned, his face searched Jace’s. “You really mean that?”
A tender hand cupped Alec’s cheek, “yes Alec, I’m in love with you.”
“Oh,” Alec’s mouth hung open slightly, a blush creeped over his cheeks.
“I kept waiting for you to become comfortable enough with who you are. I never wanted to pressure you before you were ready.” Jace’s voice was low and a little gravelly, his thumb gently caressed Alec’s cheek. “I’ve known I was in love with you for a little over a year know, and I know you’ve had feelings for me for longer. But to me, you will always be worth waiting for.”
A soft noise escaped Alec as words failed him, Jace could tell that his mind had short circuited. Slowly, as to give Alec plenty of time to pull away, Jace leaned forwards bridging the gap between them. He paused just as their lips barely grazed one another, he looked for a sign to stop or pull away. Not finding any he pressed his lips into the warmth of Alec’s.
It took Alec a moment to respond, but then suddenly his hands were gripping Jace’s hips, pulling the shorter man closer. The kiss quickly turned passionate and heated, all the months, and in Alec’s case years, of pent up feelings finally having an outlet.
A low growl in his throat Alec pinned Jace up against the wall. He broke the kiss for a moment and searched Jace’s eyes. “This is real?” He murmured.
Jace pulled Alec’s body flush against him, there was no way that Alec would not be able to feel his building arousal. “Certainly feels real to me.”
Alec’s head dipped to kiss Jace once more, their tongues moving in sync together as they took time to explore each other’s mouths. With a nip to Alec’s bottom lip Jace pulls away slightly. “Do you think we could maybe move this to one of our bedrooms?”
“Yes,” Alec growled as he slightly reluctantly parted from Jace. They still had plenty of each other to explore that night.
