Work Text:
Staged break out of the black site, fake prison, Phoenix outdid themselves this time. He's really impressed. He doesn't have to guess twice whose idea all of that was... He wished they got him instead of Clive, Merchant or whatever his name is. Murdoc doesn't know much about Codex, but if Angus comes and asks for his help, he would do anything to make his trip outside of these plain, color starved walls longer and more enjoyable. Of course he would also have to be useful, in order to do that. That wouldn't be so difficult, working with MacGyver is just too much fun. He wouldn't miss the chance to watch him make things out of other things again, how he thinks, how he fights bullets with just his brain and his little knife. It's so unique...impressive...unbelievable.
But MacGyver didn't come for him...yet
Phoenix sent agents to pretend to be Codex's and rescue Merchant.
It has been couple of weeks since that day and it was truly entertaining. Murdoc didn't have much fun for months and that little play was just perfect.
The way Clive was so full of himself and how rudely he waved to him as he left his cell. The way he really believed he's leaving the blacksite for good. Unlike him, Murdoc knows how to tell the difference between Phoenix people and others. Those men were too soft, too obvious, they simply tried too hard. It takes a bad guy to know another bad guy, or in this case good guys trying to hide their halos under their masks. It was so far from convincing and he wonders how did Codex's man didn't see right through it. How did they managed to exist for centuries if naive people like Clive were part of their organization.
Murdoc heard guards talking about bringing someone in, after staging fake prison with MacGyver and he just knew it's going to be Clive. Who else would it be?
Hopefully Clive could tell him more about the boy scout... it has been far too long since the last time he saw him. Next time MacGyver comes, it's going to be for him, and just him.
The noise pulled Murdoc back into reality, far away from his daily dose of daydreaming. And there he was, Clive walking in front of four, WOW four guards. No matter how much Murdoc wanted to see MacGyver, he's glad the boy scout wasn't with them. MacGyver should only walk him to the cell, no one else. Especially not this Codex's little British Merchant. He's glad that for some reason, someone decided to return Clive to his old cell, right across Murdoc's.
Murdoc waited for few moments until the guards left, the man was laying on his bed, so Murdoc came all the way to the glasswall in order to see and hear Clive clearly and asked:
"And?"
"And what Dennis?", Merchant asked unimpressed. He knew what Murdoc was thinking, the only thing that he was ever talking about, but he hoped he would just fall asleep before Murdoc had a chance to start talking... about the topic...again.
"Oh, i see, you've been talking with my dear soon to be dead ex-mentor over there", Murdoc said and waved to Helman. The other man just brushed him off.
"Difficult to avoid, you both just LOVE to talk. It's very obvious that you had mentor-protege relationship or whatever that you had", Merchant said
"Come on, you definitely have something to say. You know that you can tell me anything", Murdoc teased him
That earned him an eyeroll from Merchant. Murdoc smiled and continued:
"How about you start with the fact that you fell for that staged rescue/fake prison thing. I have to admit it was really fun watching you full of hope, believing that you're actually leaving this place"
"At least they came for me. I'm still a valuable resource, unlike you. They just locked you up and throw away the key", Merchant said as he mirrored Murdoc's smile
"That's not so nice my Merchant buddy. But don't worry my time will come. And i doubt that you'll get to see it"
"Anyway you spent whole time with MacGyver and you have nothing to say?", Murdoc added
"I'm not sure what am i suppose to say", Merchant admitted
"Hmmm how about just admit that i was right. Angus is just so impressive, there's no one quite like him. Am i right?", he asked with a big smile
As soon as Merchant saw Murdoc's creepy smile started growing on his whole face, he regretted not asking for other cell. Asking...begging...offering whatever info he can give. Just to be away and get some peace.
He sighed and answered:
"Yes, you're right. But isn't that just one more reason to put him in the ground?"
"Oh believe me, that is exactly my plan. He deserves a big, epic way to go out, and that is only going to be by my hand. So keep your little Codex group away from him"
"Yeah right, keep telling yourself that", Merchant chucked and replied
'"What's that suppose to mean?", Murdoc asked surprised
"It means that i am tired. I'm tired of Codex, i'm tired of Phoenix's plans and i'm tired of your never ending MacGyver stories. Good night", Merchant said
He quickly turned on his side and closed his eyes.
"What did he make this time? Hey did i tell you about the time he managed to-", Murdoc started but he noticed Merchant has stopped listening.
Murdoc will just have to continue tomorrow, he can't waste precious stories to tell when Merchant is not fully focused.
But now he knows one thing, Codex is not as weak as he thought.
If Phoenix came up with all of that just to get info on them, to find them, they're a big threat probably to them all.
If MacGyver doesn't come to him soon, he'll have to find a way to come to him.
He can't allow Codex to hurt or change him, because in the end that was, is and will always be his job, and only his.
