An Embarrassing Thought

Notes:

Work Text:

"Say, Cress, have you ever thought about who you'd wanna walk down the isle with?" Klarth asked, watching the newlywed Elwin and Nancy walk off to somewhere.

"Hm? I'm afraid I don't follow."

"He wants to know if you wanna marry anyone, silly!" Arche bound across the stone pathways of Venezia, landing squarely in front of Cress.

"Eh? No, I... I can't say I do." Cress's response made both Klarth and Arche huff in sync.

"C'mon, there's gotta be someone, right? Maybe Mint?" Klarth's suggestion was met with a flustered response from Cress. "N–No, I don't– I mean, she's very nice and all, but I don't think of her that way!"

"You can't think of anyone you'd wanna see all dressed up like those two were?" Klarth laughed a bit as he spoke. Cress calmed for a moment. There really wasn't anyone he could think of. That is, until the image of Chester in a wedding suit came into his mind and he found he liked it a bit too much. That train of thought must've made itself known on his face, as now the two were staring at him with cheeky grins. "I see, so there is someone, huh? So, who's the lucky one?" Klarth asked, nudging the younger man with his elbow.

"Yeah, Cress, who is it?" Arche joined, nudging his other side with her elbow as well.

"I–I have no clue what you're talking about." He buried his face in his hands, hoping the heat would go away soon.

"Come oooooon, you can tell us! We won't say a word to another soul!" Arche's tone betrayed her words. Cress separated himself from between the two and shot a weak glare at them.

"You most certainly will! Besides, you don't know him anyway!" Cress clamped his hand over his mouth a moment too late. The two looked between each other before their mischievous grins came back. Arche laughed loudly and Klarth joined her.

"So, what's the lucky guy's name, Cress?" Arche asked. Cress's face was burning like a campfire now, and he hurriedly looked around before spotting Mint watching a short distance away.

"M–Mint! Help me, please!"

"Don't worry, Cress. I'm sure Chester feels the same!" She said it just loud enough for the other two to hear it, and Cress swore he saw a flash of mischief in her otherwise disarming smile. The other two were beaming wildly now.

"Mint–?!"

"Chester, huh? So, what's he like, Cress?" Klarth was in his face now and Arche quickly joined him.

"Yeah, tell us about your future husband, Cress!"

"Mint, you traitor!"

------------

Cress slumped away from the two still laughing giddily and sighed. "I really hope they forget about this once we reunite with Ches...ter..." His earlier mental image of his friend in a suit, waiting for him at the alter, returned with a vengeance then, and he burried his head in his hands again with an embarrassed groan.
