Chapter Text
As Violetta woke up, she saw all the texts. The first thing she did was to call Leon - because he had asked her to.
“Hi…” Leon said. “I guess you saw my text?”
“I did.”
“Yeah, I… wanna talk about the melody you wrote.”
“What did you think? It just came to me in the middle of the night.”
“Violetta, I… I loved it more than I can describe.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I wanna play it for the teachers today in school, and see what they think. Can I do that?”
“Sure!” Violetta replied. She was thinking of doing that later anyway, so it was good Leon could do it now.
“Great!” They talked a little more, before hanging up. Violetta smiled sadly. She wished she could be in the Studio. But alas, she had to get through her punishment.
She decided to pass the time by spending some time with Federico, who was going to the airport soon.
“Have I told you I'm gonna miss you?” she asked him.
“Yes, at least a hundred times,” Federico giggled. “And I’m gonna miss you, too.”
“Federico?” Germán asked, “Ramallo is waiting in the car.”
“Well, I guess this is it.” Federico sighed. He went up to Violetta and hugged her tightly.
“Bye!” Violetta said. “Message me when you’re in Italy.”
“Of course.”
As Federico left, Violetta went back to her room, wondering how she should structure the rest of her day. She wasn’t allowed to go to the Studio, so… what would she do? Should she just spend the day watching movies? If her dad even allowed that.
Suddenly, it knocked on her door.
“Who is it?” she asked.
Instead of the knocker replying, they just went straight inside her room. She was surprised to see who it was.
“Tomas?”
“Hi. I need to talk to you.”
Violetta frowned. “Okay… how did you get in?”
“I snuck in.”
Well, that’s concerning. Anyway.
“I don’t know how to say this, but I had to say it in real life.” Tomas admitted.
“Okay… what is it?”
“I’m moving back to Spain.”
Violetta blinked. “Oh?”
“Yeah… my dad got a much better job and… the truth is, I miss my home country!”
“Of course.”
“Anyway. I’m leaving after the final show.”
Violetta took a deep breath, “I’m… gonna miss you, Tomas.”
Tomas hugged her. He hugged her without her being prepared, but she accepted the hug nonetheless. Then Tomas clutched onto her even harder, as if he wanted her body to be as close to his as possible.
“This might be the last time we see each other…” he whispered. Vilu thought he sounded weirdly excited. With how tightly he hugged her, she wondered if…
“Can you do one thing for me?” Tomas asked.
“Depends on what it is…” Violetta replied nervously.
“Just a little… goodbye gesture.”
“Okay…”
Tomas then kissed her. Right on the lips.
Violetta wasn’t sure she liked it. She wasn’t sure she was prepared for a kiss from him.
But during it, she reflected on everything. If this was half a year ago, she would probably feel more excited. But so much had happened. She felt like the small feelings she ever felt for Tomas disappeared a long time ago. She didn’t hate the kiss though - she was fine with it, but she didn’t feel much of anything. She mostly felt like… she could let Tomas have this. He was moving away and she knew for a long time, even if she didn’t want to admit it, that he had wanted to kiss her. So she let him.
Though, Tomas seemed to not want to let go of the kiss. He instead clutched his finger around her waist, seeming to want to hold on. Violetta opened her eyes and felt like it was time to quit.
“Tomas…” she mumbled.
“Mm…” he replied, in a far too happy tone for her comfort.
“Can… you let go?”
“Sure…”
He let go, but very slowly. Violetta wondered how much he had been dreaming of this.
“Thank you.” he said.
“You’re… welcome…”
“I really liked that kiss. Didn’t you?”
Violetta gave him a pitiful smile, “Uh… I…”
Tomas grinned really widely. Vilu wondered if there was something wrong with him.
“Tomas, you need to go… my dad won’t like that you’re here.”
“Of course… but I hope I'll see you one last time, before I leave.”
“I’m sure you will…”
Tomas hugged her again, this time more briefly. However, Violetta felt something… off. She didn’t mention it to him, though. As he left, she wasn’t sure how to feel at all.
In the Studio, the students were planning the end of the year show. Leon had played Violetta’s song for the teachers, and they liked it.
“Do you have lyrics to that song?” Pablo asked.
“I don’t know. It’s Violetta’s song. I’d have to ask her.”
“Where is Violetta today?” Beto asked.
“She called in sick…” Pablo said.
“Hm?” Angie said, “That’s strange, she should have told me something?”
The other teachers gave her a concerned look.
“Should I call her?” Leon asked.
“No, you know what?” Angie said, “I’ll go and talk to her. Then I’ll come back.”
Everyone nodded.
Meanwhile, Tomas came back to the Studio. He looked like he was in a dreaming state.
“Wooh, what’s up with you?” Maxi asked, laughing.
“Well,” Tomas chuckled, “I’ve just had a pretty good day…”
“Care to tell us why?”
Tomas smirked and gathered Maxi, Camila and Francesca in a corner, so they could talk privately.
“Ok, I was at Vilu’s house…”
“Ok?” Francesca said. She felt her heart beating in a way that hurt a little, for some reason.
“And… well… we kissed!”
The three friends stared at him.
“I see you’re speechless.” Tomas commented, grinning.
“Y-Yeah…” Camila said.
“Speechless… was the word…” Francesca added. Camila put a hand on her shoulder.
“Ah, the three friends and Tomas!” Braco exclaimed, walking up to them.
“Is that a reference to something?” Maxi asked.
“Maybe if you are from a specific country.” Braco shrugged.
They chatted for a few moments, before Camila and Francesca exchanged a nod. They needed to go to Vilu's house.
But before they arrived, Angie did.
“Germán,” she said, “Is Violetta at home?”
“Yes, she is.” Germán confirmed.
“Why? Is she sick?”
“No, I'm just not letting her out. She’s grounded.
“Grounded? For what?”
“For lying to me!”
Angie blinked. “Okay?”
“She needs to learn a lesson, so I am not letting her go outside for some days.”
“So, you’re letting her miss important lessons, especially now when it’s the end of the year show?”
“She’s not gonna be at the end of the year’s show.”
“Oh, she won’t?”
“No.”
Angie sighed, “You know, you’re only ruining for yourself when you do this.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Can I go see my niece?”
Germán looked like she had just asked him to set fire on the house. “What are you gonna say to her?”
“Is it too much to ask from an aunt to meet her niece? What, are you gonna take me away from her for another 12 years?”
“Fine, go talk to her. You don’t have to make such a scene, Angie.”
Angie rolled her eyes as she went upstairs.
She knocked on the door which was already half open. “May I come in?”
“Angie!” Violetta exclaimed.
“You didn’t come to the Studio today.”
“No, I didn’t… dad wouldn’t let me.”
“What happened, Vilu?”
“He found out about the reality show… I should have told him.”
Angie sighed. “Maybe… but perhaps it wouldn’t have made much difference.”
“I don’t know if i’m gonna be at the end of the year show… I wish I could be, but I doubt dad lets me.”
“Well… even if I wanted to, I can’t do much about it… but you can contribute in one way.”
“How?”
“Well… Leon played that melody you did for us and… we wanna use it in the show! But we have to know if you have any lyrics to it?”
Violetta lit up. “Oh my gosh! Yes, I do!”
She had nothing to do all day, so she wrote song lyrics. Angie took a look at it.
“This sounds great! Mind if I take it with me?”
“Of course!”
Angie hugged her and kissed her forehead.
The Studio kids practiced all day on their songs they were going to sing for the show.
Camila and Francesca were going to perform Junto a ti , and were practicing the choreography. It all went well, but Camila could see there was something bothering Francesca. So, she said they should take a break.
“What is it, Fran?”
“Nothing?” Francesca replied, fooling nobody.
“Fran. Tell me.”
Francesca didn’t tell her. Camila sighed.
“Is it about Violetta?”
“Why do you always assume it’s about Violetta?!” Francesca asked in an offended tone.
“I don’t always assume it’s her, but right now I think so. Because I know you wrote this song for her. And I think… you wanted to sing it. With her.”
Francesca gave Camila a pitiful look.
“You may think I don’t know what people think, or that I have difficulty picking up cues,” Camila said, “But trust me, I know more than you think. Not just about you, but about… several people.” She shot a glance at Ludmila and Naty, who were passing by outside the dance room.
“Alright, it’s Violetta.” Francesca admitted. “Listen, I love doing the song with you…”
“...but it would have been more special if it was with Violetta. Yeah, I get that. But you know what?”
“What?”
“We can go visit Violetta after school. I still wanna sing Ser Mejor with her.”
“Yeah, it’s her song! It’s unfair she won’t get to sing it with us. The lyrics were so great, did she really write it in a few hours?”
Camila smirked, “Well, there’s only one way to find out!”
Violetta was pleased to get visits from her friends. Her dad wasn’t home either, so they could be in the living room. They were playing songs on the piano. They had just finished singing Junto a ti , and were about to sing Ser Mejor .
“I can’t believe you wrote the lyrics in a day!” Francesca said.
“Yeah, I had nothing else to do.” Violetta shrugged.
“It’s amazing!”
“Thank you.”
“Can’t you sing it for us?” Camila asked.
Violetta shrugged, “Sure thing.”
She went to the piano and played the melody. Fran and Cami immediately fell into a calm state, just listening to her.
Hay mil sueños de colores
No hay mejores, ni peores
Solo amor, amor, amor y mil canciones, oh
Ja no hay razas, ni razones
No hay mejores, ni peores
Solo amor, amor, amor y mil opciones
De ser mejor
Just as she finished, Germán came home.
“Violetta, I didn’t say you could have friends over.” he said.
“Hi, dad.” Violetta said sternly, “We’re just singing.”
“Ok, but now your friends have to go.”
“Your daughter wrote a really good song!” Francesca commented.
Germán stared at her for a moment. Last time he saw Francesca, she had yelled at him. So now it felt a little awkward seeing her.
“Violetta, you are not allowed to have friends over.”
“She couldn’t control that.” Camila explained, “We just showed up! Uninvited!”
She thought she was smooth, but that’s not something very reassuring to say.
“I’m sorry, but you two need to leave.” Germán said calmly, although with a rather strict undertone.
“Just listen to your daughter sing first!” Francesca suggested.
“I can hear her after you have left.”
“No, now! It might convince you of things.”
“Girls…” Violetta said carefully.
“Convince me of what?” Germán asked.
“To let her perform at the end of the year show…” Fran said.
Germán sighed, “Listen… I am very happy you care so much about my daughter, but she is not going to perform. Maybe next year.”
“But why?” Camila asked, “You’re just sheltering her from her friends and her own talent. How does that make anyone happy? She’s not happy and you won’t be happy either.”
Germán gave her a strange look. He wondered how these friends of his daughter dared to speak back to adults. Of course, there is one thing when a child is speaking back to their parents - he knew everyone had bickers with their parents. But speaking back to their friend’s parents - that was not something you did.
“Please reconsider.” Francesca begged.
“Girls…” Violetta said.
“I am asking you to please leave this house.” Germán said, “You can come another day.”
“We don’t wanna leave.” Camila replied.
“Cami…” Violetta mumbled nervously.
“Yeah, you can’t make us leave!” Francesca added.
“Fran…”
“No, don’t try to stop us, Vilu! You deserve to be at the end of the year show!”
“But please-”
“You’re ruining your daughter’s life!” Camila blurted out. Everyone went silent.
“I have been asking you kindly to leave,” Germán said slowly, “I’m asking you one last time…”
Camila was about to say something more, but Francesca took her arm, giving her a look that said let’s just go.
“Alright…” Camila muttered, “But we will be back!”
“Yes!” Francesca added, just as she headed towards the door.
As they left, Germán turned to Violetta.
“No friends over while you’re grounded.”
“Fine.”
“By the way, they really got an attitude. Do they always have that?”
Violetta crossed her arms, “I don’t know. They act in the way they feel is right.”
“Their parents should have teached them better.” Germán scoffed.
“Maybe they have. But they’re old enough to be responsible for their own actions.”
“I hope you never speak back to someone else’s parents. I would be so embarrassed.”
During the next day, nothing really happened. After dinner, Violetta was in the kitchen drinking some chocolate milk. She didn’t think of much - she had just zoned out and honestly, she felt a little low.
Then suddenly, she saw someone at the kitchen door. She immediately went to open it.
“Francesca? What are you doing here?”
“Can I come in?” Francesca asked.
Violetta let her inside.
“First,” Francesca said, “I am just sorry about yesterday.”
“No, it’s okay,” Violetta assured her.
“Second, I want to say… I really miss you at the Studio. We were practicing all the performances today and… it was such a bummer you weren’t with us, you know?”
“Yeah, I really miss being at the Studio too…”
Francesca took her hands, “You know… before I knew you, I was… a little jealous of you.”
“You were?”
“Yeah… because Tomas liked you and… I was… you know.” Francesca at this point couldn’t even believe she actually had a crush on Tomas. So much had happened and now she couldn’t understand how she would ever think of him in that way. Now she wasn’t even sure how she felt about… anything, regarding those things.
“We’ve been through so much,” Violetta sighed, “Did I tell you that Tomas kissed me?”
“He told us. ” Francesca said. “He was so excited… but since you didn’t even mention his name yesterday, I’m assuming it wasn’t as exciting for you?”
“No… if I am being honest, if I ever felt anything for Tomas, it was long gone. I didn’t feel a thing.”
“I felt the same way when he kissed me.” Francesca admitted. “Did he also kiss you without you… consenting?”
“Well… I sort of wasn’t expecting the kiss…” Violetta said, looking down on the floor. “But I didn’t… not consent to it. Like, I was fine with him kissing me, though I wasn’t really feeling it. Plus, it got kind of weird towards the end.”
“Weird how?”
“He uh… got a little too excited?”
“Ah…”
Violetta shrugged, “Well. I guess I can let him have it. He’s leaving for Spain.”
“Oh. right!” Francesca exclaimed, “I forgot!”
They stared at each other for a moment, before starting to snort.
“I wonder how it will be without him around.” Violetta said.
“Yeah… though, recently, I feel like he’s… not been as big in my life anyway?”
“True… I barely remember that I actually went on a date with him!”
“Oh right! And then we had our first sleepover!”
“That was so fun!”
“So much had happened…” Francesca sighed dreamingly.
Violetta smiled. “I’m glad I met you.”
“I’m glad I met you, too, Violetta.”
“I wish I could be at the end of the year show.”
“I’m gonna tell you a secret,” Francesca said, “I wish you and I sang Junto a ti on stage instead of me and Camila. I love her, and our performance will be great, but… I wrote the song about you , you know?”
“Wait, you did?”
This is where the author wondered if Violetta ever found out Francesca wrote the song for her in this rewrite, and the author does not have time to scroll through like 15 chapters to see if it’s mentioned… So if Violetta did find out, then let’s say she somehow forgot about it. And if she didn’t, then great. She found out now.
“Of course the song is for you!” Francesca exclaimed, “It’s about us. Our friendship!”
Violetta’s smile grew wider. She giggled and hugged her.
“When I perform it tomorrow,” Francesca said as she hugged Violetta tighter, “I’m gonna think of you, all the time.”
“And I'm gonna think of you, while I'm in my room, locked up.”
Francesca laughed. Not because what Violetta said was funny, but because it was so absurd.
As she let go, she stood very close to Violetta, staring at her for a moment.
“Well… I better get going. But we’ll see each other. Even if it’s not at the show.”
“Yeah…”
Francesca leaned in. She leaned in so close that Violetta wondered if she was gonna…
Eventually, Francesca gave her a kiss on the cheek. Like friends do, when they are greeting each other or saying goodbye. But Francesca didn’t just give her a quick peck. She let her lips stay on her cheek for a longer moment.
As she let go, it seemed like she wanted to give her another kiss, but she didn’t. She just slowly pulled away, gave Violetta a smile and said “bye”.
Violetta then decided on something: She was going to the show, no matter what.
The next day, Violetta prepared to sneak out without her father seeing. She didn’t know how she would do this. She had a pool, which she technically could jump out into from her window. But then she would be wet and probably get a cold later, plus there would be a large splashing sound if someone jumped into the pool.
She just had to sneak out the door… without her dad knowing.
The front door could be too visible for someone to see, but so could the kitchen door. She should just make sure her dad couldn’t see her.
“Olga, where’s dad?” she asked as nonchalantly as she could.
“He’s at work.”
“Good.”
Olga frowned, “Why is that good? What are you up to, niñita?”
“I’m… doing something he doesn’t want me to do?”
“Let me guess,” Ramallo said, suddenly appearing in the room, “You want to go to the show.”
“Yes.”
“Well, let’s just say I can give you a ride…”
Violetta was surprised, “What?”
“I think your dad is being unfair to you. I think you at least deserve to see the show, right?”
Violetta lit up and went over to hug him. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”
“No worries. Let’s go.”
Violetta excitedly went backstage. She immediately bumped into Tomas.
“Violetta!” he exclaimed, surprised.
“Tomas…”
“What are you doing here?”
“Let’s just say… I got a ride without my dad knowing.”
“Ah… so are you gonna perform?”
Violetta shook her head, “I’m just happy to be here!”
“Well, go inside! We’ve already started!”
As Violetta went inside, she heard music. It sounded like Are you ready for the ride? which was a song she knew some of the boys had been working on. They must have been at the end of the song, because soon the music stopped and Violetta could hear cheers.
And soon enough, Leon, Broduey, Napo, Andres and Maxi went into the room.
“We crushed it!” Andres exclaimed.
“I have so much adrenaline!” Napo admitted.
“Wait, is that Violetta?” Maxi asked, causing everyone to look at Violetta.
“Hi.” Violetta said.
“Violetta… what are you doing here?” Leon asked, being very happy to see her.
“Well, I… I’m watching the show whether my dad wants me or not.”
“A rebel!” Broduey commented, “Cool! Respect that!”
“Are you gonna sing with us?” Maxi asked.
Violetta shook her head, “It would be fun, especially Ser Mejor , since it’s a song I have made. But I am just happy to be here.”
“Maybe you can sing Ser Mejor !” Napo said, “We all sing it, but we really could not decide on which person would sing the opening lines. So we were planning on just all singing it. Though, it would have been better if someone started singing and the rest joined, you know?”
“Yeah…”
Suddenly, Violetta heard music start playing. She knew what song it was.
“Is Francesca and Camila performing?” she asked. “I need to see them!”
She ran up towards the side of the stage, seeing her two friends dance and sing. At the side of the stage, Antonio and Pablo also stood. They were surprised to see her.
“Violetta!” Antonio exclaimed.
“Have you run away from home?” Pablo asked in a concerned voice.
“No, I got a ride… my dad doesn’t know I'm here, but…”
She didn’t know what to say, since nothing really sounded very calming to say to them.
“I just really wanted to see the show.” she admitted.
Pablo and Antonio shared a look. Then they nodded.
“Of course.” Antonio said. “Hey, I'm gonna go get Angie and tell her you’re here.”
“Angie has been missing you all week,” Pablo whispered. “By the way, your song was amazing. Maybe you can be a part of the performance… We think the song is better if someone sang the opening lines. Right now we have to make them all sing right away and we just don’t think it’s gonna sound as good.”
Violetta smiled, “Yeah.”
They then watched Camila and Francesca, who did their absolute best. Violetta was jamming along, watching them proudly.
Then, right before the bridge before the last chorus, Francesca suddenly made eye contact with her.
Camila soon enough noticed Violetta aswell, and quickly danced her way over. She took Violetta’s hand and suddenly, Violetta was out on stage. She went over to hug Fran and all three of them danced and sang.
They finished singing together and the three embraced each other as they looked at the audience.
Violetta grinned. Then suddenly, she saw a familiar face in the audience.
Was that… her dad?
“Violetta!” Angie exclaimed as Violetta went backstage. “Hi! What are you doing here?”
“Ramallo gave me a ride! Dad doesn’t know I’m here… or he does, because…”
“Violetta.”
Violetta turned around to see her father stand with crossed arms. She felt nervous.
“Hi, dad… I-”
“Don’t say anything,” he said, “I wanted to say… I’m sorry. I was really mad for you lying, but I shouldn’t have just… kept you locked inside. All you wanted was to sing at this show… and I know how much you love singing, I was just… not thinking clearly.”
Angie scoffed in the background, but when Germán saw her she quickly looked away.
“What i’m saying is,” Germán continued, “You can go sing with your friends. You’re no longer grounded.”
Violetta lit up. “You really mean it?”
“Yes!”
Violetta squeaked and hugged him.
“I’ll be in the audience.” Germán told her.
“Well, well, you arrived.” Ludmila said. “I thought you weren’t allowed here.”
“Well, now I am.” Violetta shrugged.
“And just in time!” Antonio cheered, “Violetta, what do you say about singing the opening lines of the final song?”
“But she doesn’t even know the lyrics!” Ludmila protested.
“She literally wrote the song,” Camila noted, “She knows it.”
“Besides, she’s only gonna sing the opening lines,” Maxi added, “Then we’ll carry on with the rest of it.”
“But… but…”
“Ludmila, it will be fine.” Pablo assured her.
Ludmila crossed her arms, and then sighed. “Fine. But only because it’s the last day before the break. Don’t think I will be this kind when the next semester starts.”
Violetta grinned, “Don’t worry, I won't.”
She then looked around the room, surrounded by all the people she had gotten to know during the last year. She felt like everything had changed. Like she had changed. To think, only a year ago she was a shy, sheltered young girl who didn’t have much going on at all. Now she was more confident, outgoing and had more friends than she had ever had before. She felt like she had found her place, her people…
And it felt like it was only going to go uphill from here.
“So, are you ready to get out on stage?” Pablo asked.
Everyone started cheering and laughing. They were more than ready.
Violetta stood in front of the crowd, ready to sing the song.
Hay algo que tal vez deva decirte
Es algo que te hace muy, muy bien
She smiled as she saw her classmates walk onto stage, joining her.
Se siente tan real, está en tu mente
Y dime si eres
Quien tu quieres ser
Leon and Tomas stepped forward, singing the next part each.
Tómame la mano ven aquí
El resto lo hará tu corazón
Then, everyone sang together again.
No hay nada que no puedes conseguir
Si vuelas alto
Hay mil sueños de colores
No hay mejores, ni peores
Solo amor, amor, amor y mil canciones, oh
Ja no hay razas, ni razones
No hay mejores, ni peores
Solo amor, amor, amor y mil opciones
De ser mejor
Then the slow and beautiful chorus changes to something much more upbeat. There were drums, there was a rhythm… everyone started dancing and so did Violetta. It seemed like they had some sort of choreography, which she tried to copy the best she could. It wasn’t that hard.
Saber y decidir que hoy es posible
(Hoy es posible)
Que en cada pensamiento un elvo hacer
(Un elvo hacer)
Poder imaginar que somos miles
(Que somos miles)
Y el sueño que comienza a crecer
They sang the bridge and chorus once again, but this time much faster and with a lot more tempo. They were living their lives up on stage.
During one point, Violetta saw her father coming closer to the stage. Some people in the crowd lifted her down so she could give him a hug. He looked at her with the proudest smile and gave her a kiss on the forehead. She then was lifted back up and finished the song.
De ser mejor!
The crowd cheered like there was no tomorrow. Violetta felt like this was the most magic moment she had ever experienced.
Oh, Violetta… just wait until next year.
