Something to Tell You

Summary:

Sooyoung thinks she's running her mouth off. She also thinks it's selfish of her to keep asking. But if she never takes the chance, she'll never know if she'll hit the jackpot.

Notes:

Written for GG Jukebox Mixtape Round 2! Inspired mainly by Kali Uchi's Lottery, but I was also listening to HAIM's Little of Your Love when I came up with this little one shot.

Work Text:

Sooyoung must’ve lost her marbles, because she doesn't know what makes her blurt out the topic.

“Jiwooming. You know I love you right?”

Jiwoo looks down at Sooyoung’s face that’s looking up at her from her lap. “Okay I’ll bite. What do you want?”

“Nothing!”

Jiwoo narrows her eyes.

“Okay, maybe something. I have a funny story, see. About something. Something uh...”

“Yes?”

“JungeunandImight’vehadamomentonthesofaandIthinkshewantedmetokissherandthefunnythingisIthinkIalmostdidtoo.”

“What?”

“What. Jungeun and I had a moment the other night when we were sitting on the sofa, after our call with Haseul. She was kinda looking at me, then at my lips, so I looked at her lips! And she caught me looking. And I don’t know Jiwoo, but she makes me feel funny. Does she make you feel funny? But then I was thinking maybe I’m just assuming things, so I wanted to ask you.” Sooyoung rambles.

Sooyoung tightly closes her eyes, and readies herself for anything. A burst of tears, a slap in the face, anything. But what she didn’t prepare for is the pondering face of her girlfriend, chewing on her lip while looking at the door that was left ajar.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Okay as in you can kiss her. But I get to kiss her after too, because I’ve always wanted to kiss her and I think she’s always wanted to kiss me too. Then kiss me after, because I still like your kisses the best right now.”

“Huh.”

“What?”

“Nothing. Now you’re the one talking funny.”

Jiwoo pouts and huffs. “Well! I told you about me liking Jungie back in high school right? I’ll have you know that we almost became a thing! I love her, and I always have, so.”

“So?”

“I just always loved her. A part of me always will.”

Sooyoung does that little nose scrunch when doesn’t quite understand something. But knowing how Jiwoo loved, it seems that she doesn’t have to. Jiwoo always has enough love for everyone. It just made sense.

But back to the kissing.

“Hm, okay. But, so..do I just kiss her?” Sooyoung tentatively asks Jiwoo. “Just go for it and pick up where we left off the other night?”

Jiwoo chews on her bottom lip. Sooyoung is distracted by the movement. “No, dummy! I think we should woo her.”

“Woo her?”

“Yeah! Like, I wanna be her girlfriend too, you know.” Jiwoo declares.

“So like. The three of us.” Sooyoung dumbly muses. “Would she even want both of us though?”

“Fair.” Jiwoo acquiesces. “But I wanna hear what you have to say about my Jungie. Why do you like her?”

Sooyoung ponders for a bit, and nervously moves up to properly sit next to Jiwoo. Why does she like Jungeun? Why does it feel like I’m getting the best friend talk from my own girlfriend?

“I suppose it’s because she’s steadfast, parallel to your determination when it comes to doing what you want. I love that about you, did you know that?.” Sooyoung looks at Jiwoo straight in the eye, nothing but adoration spilling from her words.

Jiwoo is dazed for a moment by the sudden heartfelt declaration, but snaps out of it to ask an important question. “Do you think she’s pretty? How about that part of Jungie?”

Sooyoung bites back the knee-jerk answer of “Women. Hot.” and instead says, “Jungeun, she’s gorgeous, of course!”

“Of course!” Jiwoo echoes excitedly.

Sooyoung fears an awkward standstill in the conversation, and carries on. “She gives me good advice, as a leader, you know. When I falter, she steps in to support me and my decisions. I think I’m a better unnie to you guys, partly because of her.”

I love her the way I love you, like both of you were molded to hold both my hands together. Sooyoung belatedly thinks, as she wrings her hands together in anticipation of what Jiwoo has to say.

Jiwoo looks at Sooyoung with an unreadable expression, and nods to encourage her to continue.

“She just fits, and she makes me feel safe like I can make mistakes too. With you, I feel safe, but more so like I can take on the world, because I know you’ll be there beside me. And I kind of want Jungeun beside me too.” Sooyoung softly says.

Jiwoo is still. Sooyoung thinks that this is it, they’re about to break up. What was she expecting anyway? She might have not been enough for Jiwoo, and for her to ask the world for Jungeun too? How can she be so-

Sooyoung’s internal despair is cut off when Jiwoo tightly hugs her. They’re quiet for a moment, and Sooyoung is distinctly aware of how fast her girlfriend’s heart is beating.

“You’re not mad?” Sooyoung’s voice is muffled, her head buried on Jiwoo’s shoulder.

“How can I be mad, silly?” Jiwoo pulls away to firmly hold Sooyoung by the shoulders. “When I heard you talking about my first love like that, all I could think about is how lucky I am to be able to love two people like you and Jungie.”

“Really?” Jiwoo can see that Sooyoung’s eyes have become glossy; here comes a sniffly Sooyoung.

“Really.”

“Okay, that’s enough about me.” Sooyoung pulls away and holds Jiwoo’s hands to lay in between  them. “How did you know you liked Jungeun?”

“I like, no, love Jungie because she’s my best friend - because she was the first one to be there for me among all the people who could’ve hurt me.”

The taller girl nods solemnly and gives an assuring squeeze to their intertwined hands.

Jiwoo continues. “High school was tough, and a lot of people nearly bullied me, but she was there for me. Jungeun was my everything. Now you are too. Even if Jungie doesn’t like me that way, it’s okay, because I know we still love each other as best friends.”

Sooyoung can only stare at her girlfriend in wonder. “It’s that easy? For you to accept this whole situation?”

For you to accept me? The possibility of growing our “us”? Sooyoung really wanted to ask.

It’s that easy for me, because loving her has always been easy. And falling for you was even easier. So I guess I really hit the jackpot, huh?” Jiwoo chuckles dryly.

“Yeah.” Sooyoung wipes her tears on her sleeve. “Okay, baby. How do we tell Jungeun we both like her?”

Before Jiwoo can answer, the bedroom door fully opens. But speak of the devil (angel!). It’s Jungeun.

Shit. Just how much did she hear?

Jungeun is flushed, redder than both Sooyoung and Jiwoo have ever seen before.

Huh, that answers the question. Sooyoung thinks.

“W-who likes Jungeun now?” Jungeun stammers.

Maybe shit just hit the fan, Sooyoung thinks as she watches Jiwoo tackle Jungeun into a hug, but maybe we both just won the lottery.
