Summary
There's a sort of mania that accompanies high-stress situations. Sometimes it builds over a matter of hours, and sometimes an oil tanker explodes feet from the hood of your car, cutting you off from the only other person in town and drawing the attention of every undead S.O.B. in a hundred yards.
And it gets worse.
Needless to say that when Leon finally forces his way into the Raccoon City Police Department and it's more Dawn of the Dead than a bastion of safety and order, mania has taken a back seat to whatever it is that he's feeling. Loud. Large. Impermanent. Clumsy, ill-prepared.
