Summary
There’s a prize waiting for him. A trophy. It’s better than some dead thing hanging over guests in a crumbling throne room, though. This is alive and crackling with energy; a beauty that all can see and long for. And they do. He can tell, notices as every being within a mile of the prize puffs out colorful chests or twirls long hair round twitching fingers in an effort to impress, to capture. Unnecessary attempts, each one. The shadows hiss, cry out for the thing that’s managed to throw a palace into upheaval without a single drop of blood drawn. They will have to wait. He will have to wait. After all, the incensed darkness is, in a way, a reflection of himself.
