"i found a few over here" bennet called out to razor, who was up a tree looking for some eggs.
"oh never mind" bennet continued, sheepishly. he stared at the rotting wolf hooks sadly, wishing for the umpteenth time today he had at least a scrap of luck.
"razor has found something!" razor shouted from up in the trees. he scaled down the trunk with ease and ran over to bennet to show him his find. bennet stared in curiosity at razors cupped hands, seeing a dull glow coming from inside. razor beckoned bennet to come closer and he followed. slowly, razor opened up his hands and three glowing fireflies flew out.
"wow" bennet gasped, admiring the beauty of these small creatures.
"bennet likes the glowing flies?" razor inquired, leaning forwards and tilting his head so their faces were only a few centimetres apart. bennet blushed, trying to avoid razors red curios eyes staring right at him.
"y-yeah, i don't see much of them though, they usually fly away before i can catch them" bennet stuttered
"hmmm, razor will just have to catch enough for both of us then!" he exclaimed, grinning at bennet, who grinned back, touched by the sentiment.
"right should we continue on looking? we only need 3 more wolf hooks!"
"yes! then we can go home away from scary woods, razor has never ventured this far"
"as long as your with me ill do my best to protect you" bennet promised
they continued on searching until the sky darkened.
"oh crud! it looks like its about too rain!" bennet exclaimed
"quick! cave!" razor pointed to a small opening on a side of a hill. they both ran towards it, covering their heads with their hands.
they scrambled inside, desperate not to get the wolfhooks wet. once they were both in they examined their surroundings, it was a smallish cave about 7 feet wide and 6 feet tall which was definitely big enough for them. it appeared to be used before, perhaps by other adventurers caught in the rain, so a few torches were left and a stove.
"nice! seems we got lucky finding this place huh" bennet lit the torches up and sat next to the fire.
"well i guess we should wait for the rain to stop so we can take the wolfhooks home safely" he sighed and leant against the stone wall, razor joining him
"how long will we stay?" razor asked
"im not sure... hopefully not too long as its getting dark and its too dangerous to walk through these woods at night" bennet shivered at the thought. they waited a while longer until the rain got even worse.
"ah, sorry. it doesn't look like the rains cleared up... at all" bennet grimaced "we might have to stay the night" he looked over too razor
"is that ok?" he asked
razor nodded
"ok, im glad. i was worried you would be upset with me because of all this bad luck" razor frowned at that and stared at bennet
"it is not bennets fault." razor said simply "you dont need to apologise"
"haha... thank you, no ones ever really told me that" razor frowned again and shuffled closer.
"if anything razor is sorry. no one should live like that"
"its fine, you get used too it" bennet laughed. razor didnt reply but shuffled closer and lay his head on his shoulder.
bennet blushed, staring at this strange wolf boy he had made unlikely friends with.
a few hours passed as razor slept and bennet listened to the rain, making sure the fire didnt go out. suddenly a strike of lightning hit near the cave making a loud cracking noise and razor woke up with a welp. bennet looked at him surprised.
"are you ok?" bennet asked worried
"razor has... bad memories with lightning"
"here dont worry, the storm will pass, plus were all safe in this cosy cave!" bennet comforted
"here, i wasnt sure if you were hungry but do you want any meat?" bennet pulled out some meat from his bag, ready to put it on the stove
"yes, razor likes meat" he agreed. bennet carefully placed the meat and cooked the steak for both of them. the lightning stroke again and razor jumped right into bennets arms
"hey, shhh, its gonna be okay" bennet comforted him. the meat was finally ready and cooled slightly so they wouldn't burn themselves. they ate quickly, hungry after all the searching.
"it must be around 11 pm around now" bennet peeked outside. sure enough it was pitch black outside. bennet yawned as he sat back next to razor
"is bennet tired?"
"only a little"
"you sleep. razor protect you" too tired to argue bennet lay on the stone, drifting to sleep.
razor shuffled over to bennet, bringing his bag and carefully lifting bennets head up so he can slip the bag underneath. bennet stirred but didnt wake. razor, tired himself, lay next to bennet as there was not enough to sleep anywhere else and fell asleep.
bennet woke next morning, surprised to find himself in razors arms. smiling he looked outside and saw the sun shining through the opening of the cave. he just then realised that his luck had finally come around, even just a little. looking down at razor, bennet realised where his luck might be coming from
