Chapter Text
Alec pulled up a holographic map of the city. Clary and Jace joined him, Marley and Izzy. “Anything new?” Clary looked at them. “We tried tracking him together, like we did with Jonathan, but for some reason, it didn’t work.”
“Magnus’ wards are up.” Jace comment. “Valentine must still be in the city.”
Izzy breathed out heavily. “Thank the Angel for Magnus and the warlocks.”
“Well, they didn’t raise the wards for us.” Alec comment to her.
“Don’t care.” Marley comment. “They are doing it, cause Valentine wouldn’t get out of the city.”
“Teams are out doing block-by-block sweeps throughout the city.” Izzy told them. “We’ll find him.”
Then Alec, Marley and Izzy go to the other end to the table as Jace looked at clary. “Hey, you okay?” He whispered to her.
“I thought I’d be relieved when Jonathan was finally dead.” Clary replied honestly. “But… actually, I feel worse.”
“I get it.” Jace comment. “He was your brother.” Clary put her hand on Jace’s. Then they both smiled a little. Suddenly the alarm sounded.
“Aerial Sensors.” Alec told them.
They all go over to another screen. “Is it Valentine?” Clary asked.
Izzy was looking at the red dot going over the map. “No. Could be some kind of Wraith demon.”
----------------------------------------------
The demon was flying over the city. Izzy, Clary, Marley, Alec and Jace were running through the streets. They stopped at an intersection. “Where is it?” Jace asked to them all.
“It should be right on top of us.” Alec replied to him.
Just then Jace shouted. “Alec!”
They see the demon flying between buildings. “I’ve never seen a demon like that.” Izzy comment.
“Me neither.” Marley also comment.
“On your six!” Jace shouted as Alec shoot an arrow but missed.
“Can you see it?” Izzy asked to them.
“Nope.” Marley replied to her.
Everyone circles around, looking at different streets. Waiting for the demon. “What the hell is it waiting for?” Clary asked confused.
“It’s coming around for another pass.” Alec replied to her.
Just then Marley shouted. “Alec!”
The demon came flying right at them. “Relax, I got this.” Alec told her calmly as he shoot his arrow. It’s a hit as the demon dissolved into different parts that splatter onto the ground.
“Nice.” Izzy comment to him.
They all were taken off guard when the different parts suddenly came to life and turned into several little demons. Then a policeman gets out of his car. “Hey, who threw something at my car?”
Then Alec saw a demon climbing up a building. “Over there.” He pointed at it.
“They’re splitting up.” Clary noticed.
The demons were climbing up buildings, going down the subway station and disappearing into the streets.
----------------
Sometime later, Alec, Jace, Izzy, Marley and Clary were walking through the streets. Clary’s on her phone as Alec looked at them. “At least four demons are still unaccounted for. Notify all available personnel.”
Just then Clary hang up as she walked over them and has a grim look on her face, Jace sees it. “What’s wrong? Is everything okay?”
They all stopped walking as Clary looked at them. “That was Luke. Valentine’s on his way to Idris.”
“What?” Alec exclaimed.
Izzy had her eyes widen. “How?”
“He made a deal with the Seelie Queen.” Clary replied to them. “Luke’s warned all the other Downworld leaders.”
“Damn Valentine.” Jace cursed.
“If Valentine gets to that lake…” Marley started to say as then she was interrupted by Alec.
“He won’t.” Alec looked at her. “Malachi’s army is armed and waiting for him.”
“We need to warn them.” Clary sighed. “Who knows how many Circle members will be there?”
“If we lower the wards, these demons could get out, spread beyond the city.” Izzy replied to her.
“Maybe we don’t have to lower them.” Clary told them. “Maybe my Portal rune can pierce the wards.”
“We can’t all go.” Alec sighed. “The demons need to be dealt with.”
“Clary and I will go.” Jace looked at them. “You two stay here, slay the beasts.”
Izzy, Marley and Alec nodded. “Fine. Be careful.”
“Likewise.” Jace nodded. “And when am I ever not careful?”
Just then Clary draw the Portal rune as a Portal opened up and she and Jace went through it.
----------------------------------------------------------
In the Institute, Izzy and Marley were looking at the city map that was overrun by red dots, demons. “You need to rest.” Izzy told to Marley.
“After the demons are gone and everything is quiet down, then I will rest.” Marley scoffed.
Izzy sighed. “Okay.”
Alec looked at another Shadowhunter. “Compare that to the others and get back to me.”
Izzy and Marley went to the table where Alec was standing. “There’s over 50 of them now, with numbers increasing.”
“They haven’t attacked once.” Alec sighed. “What are they doing?”
“I don’t know, but demons don’t usually come into our realm to sightsee.” Izzy told to him. “We need to find the rift where they’re coming from and seal it.”
“We’ll need a warlock for that.” Alec told them, sighing.
“Not just any warlock.” Izzy looked at him. “The most powerful one in New York.”
“We need my dad.” Marley told them.
“Magnus is not interested in helping the Shadowhunters.” Alec looked at them. “He said so himself.”
“To you.” Marley muttered.
“He still also thinks the Seelie Queen is on their side.” Izzy sighed. “He needs to know about the deal she made with Valentine.”
“Well, not from me.” Alec told her. “He doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
Izzy looked at him. “Don’t make this personal, Alec.”
“I’m not.” Alec held his hands up.
Just then Izzy grabbed her jacket. “If you don’t ask him, I will.” She walked off.
“Izzy, wait.” Alec called.
Izzy stopped, smiled a little, then she turned back to Alec.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Marley went with Alec to her father as they were there, Alec knocked on the door as Marley stood behind him. Magnus opened it. He looked around and was about to close the door.
“Magnus.” Alec told him.
Magnus sighed and opened the door again. “What do you want, Shadowhunter? Is it about the demons?”
“There’s something you need to know about the Queen.” Alec replied to him.
“Well, if you’ve come to tell me that she made a deal with Valentine, I already know.” Magnus closed the door, but Alec held it back.
“Wait.” Alec called as Magnus opened the door again. “Izzy has located the rift the demons are coming from.”
“Oh, and you want me to seal it.” Magnus didn’t look at him. “What a surprise!”
“We need a warlock to seal one this severe.” Alec told him.
Magnus rolled with his eyes. “Duh.”
Marley stood now beside Alec. “Dad.” She scolded her father.
“Demons don’t discriminate between Downworlder, Shadowhunter, mundane.” Alec looked at him. “They kill them all.”
Magnus thinks about it. “I’ll seal the rift, but not because of you or the Shadowhunters. Because it’ll save lives.” Then he closed the door as Alec and Marley leave.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Izzy, Alec, Marley and Magnus enter the center and went over to the table. “I just spoke with Imogen.” Izzy told them. “Despite her request, there have been no troop movements in and out of Alicante since. When she went to Malachi to see what the holdup was, she was told he’d left suddenly.”
“So she believes Consul Malachi is actually a spy for Valentine?” Magnus asked to her.
“There is no other explanation.” Izzy replied to him.
“Jace and Clary are in Lake Lyn with Valentine, who knows how many Circle members and no military support.” Alec added.
“We need to go help them.” Marley told them all.
Alec sighed. “I can’t leave when the city is under assault.”
Izzy looked at Magnus. “What have you got?” Magnus asked to her.
“We’ve identified the demons as a rare sub-species of adomei.” Izzy replied to him as she showed them a map.
“Adomei?” Magnus asked to them.
Marley looked at her father. “Familiar with them?”
“They’re from Edom.” Magnus replied to her. “Tenacious little devils.”
Izzy sighed. “So we’ve noticed.”
“And remarkably intelligent, capable of creating carnage in any number of ways.” Magnus added.
“Yet they haven’t attacked once.” Alec looked at Magnus. “What are they waiting for?”
“They work in hordes.” Magnus suggested. “Perhaps they’re increasing their numbers to reach a critical mass.”
“All the more reason to get this rift closed as soon as possible.” Izzy zoomed in on the city on the screen. “Their entry point appears to be here, near Croton Point.”
“How long will this take?” Alec sighed. “Jace and Clary are alone in enemy territory.”
“Not long.” Magnus replied to him.
“We need to move.” Izzy told them all.
--------------------------------------------------------
Alec, Izzy, Marley and Magnus jumped out of a Portal. “This is definitely the right place.” Alec noticed something in the sand. “What is that?”
“Blood.” Marley replied, making an face.
“Where did all the demons go?” Izzy asked confused.
“I’m not sure.” Magnus replied to her. “They just don’t normally fly off into the sunset.”
Then they approached the big hole in the sand and look down. “Well, let’s not stick around until they make an appearance.” Alec comment.
“No let’s not.” Marley agreed with Alec.
“The amount of energy required to seal a rift from Edom is substantial.” Magnus told them all. “It’s not just a flick of the wrist.”
“Well, I will help.” Marley told to her father.
Magnus looked at her. “Be careful.”
“You gonna be okay?” Alec asked them.
“Yeah.” Marley nodded.
“I’m the High Warlock of Brooklyn.” Magnus comment to him. Then they used their magic in the hole. Just then a demon flies up out of it, hitting Izzy on the way out.
“Izzy!” Alec shouted to his sister.
“Go!” Izzy shouted to her brother. “I’m all right.”
Marley looked at Alec. “Cover us!”
Then they started working on the hole again as Alec started running towards the demon. Alec grabbed an arrow, shoot, and missed. The demon charged for him and started flying towards him.
“Marley! Magnus!” Alec shouted to them as they were close to closing the hole. “Marley! Magnus!” The demon shoot fire at Alec. They’re getting closer to Magnus and Marley. “Marley! Magnus!” just then Marley turned around and shoots a fireball at the demon that dissolves into multiple small ones. Then she get back to helping her father in closing the hole, while Alec shoot arrows at the little demons as Izzy took the last one with her whip. Alec saw that Marley and Magnus were struggling and they fell to the ground as he ran towards them. “Marley. Magnus.” He helped Marley up as then he put a hand on Magnus’s shoulder.
Magnus look at Alec, helping himself up. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
“Finally that’s over.” Marley breathed out.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Alec was watching the map of the city. Magnus approached him, Marley sat close by on a chair. “Any word from Jace and Clary?” Magnus asked to him.
“No.” Alec shook with his head. “They should be arriving at Lake Lyn by now.”
Then Izzy approached them. “Strange. The aerial Sensors show no demonic activity.”
“Yeah, there’s nothing on the ground, either.” Alec frowned. “It’s like the adomei completely disappeared.”
“I’ve never heard of that.” Magnus told him. “Once they pass through the rift, the demons are here to stay until they’re properly banished.”
“Then where the hell are they?” Marley asked confused.
Just then Alec grunted and gasped as he felt Jace’s pain going through his own body. Magnus turned away from the screen and to Alec. “Alexander, you okay?”
“Alec.” Marley stood up from her chair, looking at him.
Then Alec pulled up his shirt, his parabatai rune is burning. “His parabatai rune.” Izzy looked worried.
“It’s…” Alec fell to the ground, the others rushed over to him. “Jace.” He was gasping for air. Magnus, Marley and Izzy had crouched down by him. Then Alec pulled up his shirt again as the parabatai rune was gone. “I… I can’t feel him. He’s dead.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Not much later, a Portal opened up as Alec, Izzy, Marley and Magnus got out. They saw a light in the sky. “We’re too late.” Izzy looked in shock.
“He’s raised the Angel.” Magnus told them.
“That’s Bad.” Marley added.
Alec looked at them. “Marley, Magnus, you need to get to safety.”
“We need to find Jace and Clary.” Magnus told him.
“That’s comes first.” Marley added.
They started running, finally they appear at the lakeside as they saw Valentine’s body and Jace and Clary kissing. “They’re okay!” Alec shouted relived.
“Actually, they’re more than okay.” Izzy added.
“Thank god.” Marley comment happily.
Just then Jace stood up as Alec looked at him. “Jace, I… I thought you were dead. My rune, it disappeared.”
“Look at it now.” Jace told him as he basically pointed at where the rune sat.
Alec pulled up his shirt as the rune was there again. “How?”
“I don’t know.” Jace replied to him, clueless.
Then they all look at Valentine’s body. “It’s over.” Alec comment.
“Yeah.” Jace nodded as then he and Alec embraced.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later, everyone cheered as Luke popped a bottle of champagne. There’s a big group of Downworlders and Shadowhunters all laughing and celebrating. Then they all raise their glass. “To the Downworld!” Luke shouted.
“To the Downworld!” All of the people shouted happily.
“To the Shadowhunters!” Luke shouted again.
“To the Shadowhunters!” All of the people shouted again.
Then Izzy looked at Clary. “You know, I really wish Max was here.”
“I know.” Clary nodded. “But the important thing is, he’s gonna be okay. He has an amazing family to look out for him. And so do I.”
“You know, I grew up surrounded by brothers, who I love with all my heart.” Izzy smiled at her. “But deep down, I’ve always wanted a sister.” Clary smiled back.
Just then Alec and Marley approached Magnus who’s drinking a cocktail. “Hey.” Alec greeted him.
“Hey, dad.” Marley looked at him happy.
“Hey.” Magnus greeted back.
“You look like you got your energy back.” Alec comment.
“Mmm. My go-to home remedy after a major magic-depletion.” Magnus nodded. “Boiling hot bath, eight-ounce steak, medium-rare, and…” Then he was looking at his drink. “A lot of these. Any sign of demons?”
“None. Sensor maps are completely clear of Wraith demons.” Alec told him.
“It’s the strangest thing. It’s like they disappeared into thin air.” Marley added.
“Well, then we can take this moment. To celebrate.” Magnus held up his glass. Alec clinked it with his beer. Marley also clinked it, but she had a glass that was empty. She can’t drink.
Alec hesitated, he doesn’t take a sip. “Can we talk?”
“Yeah.” Magnus nodded.
“Finally.” Marley muttered, making her father looking at her. “I can’t have my boyfriend and my father arguing.”
Alec walked to the back. Magnus downs his drink and followed Alec outside. Marley also followed him as she then she stood by the door as Alec apologized to Magnus. “Magnus, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize.” Magnus looked at him.
“No, I should’ve told you about the Soul-Sword…” Alec was interrupted by Magnus.
“It’s in the past.” Magnus shrugged it off, he wasn’t angry at him anymore.
“Hehe.” Marley muttered as then she came by them. “I’m happy that you guys are getting along again.”
“Of course, munchkin.” Magnus comment to her.
Alec nodded. “Me too.”
“Don’t fight ever again.” Marley pointed at the men.
Magnus looked at Alec. “Can’t argue with that.”
“Me neither.” Alec nodded.
Just then Magnus suggested to them. “I’m all into parties, but what do you say we get out of here?”
“Yes.” Alec nodded.
“Oh, yes, please.” Marley looked at them. “I want a good night’s rest.” The men chuckled at her as then they walk off together.
