Chapter Text
Cecil’s POV
Finally the day came.
Cecil had finished up his training, been assigned his color Cyan, and had his first assignment.
A ship had crashed into a mountainside. A Skeld only about a year old.
And it was Cecil’s job to get it back up to code.
All alone.
Well, mostly.
Opie and Prisicilla were doing some work too, not that they’d be allowed on an actual ship ship for a few more years. But Opie wanted to make sure the security cameras were up to code, since Cecil was her best friends brother.
And Priscilla was in charge of ordering parts and keeping people away from the general worksite during the day and hiring someone to make sure the reactor would be stable and so on and so forth.
But someone else was going to be doing the actual welding bits and more mechanics. Because while Cecil knew electrical work and administrative tasks, he had no actual knowledge of how to fix other things. Like the hull of the ship.
“Hello Cece.”
He jumped, not expecting the way too cheerful and familiar voice of Priscilla’s other bestie, Erick.
“Erick- What- Priscilla’s out front, how did you not see her?” He asked, shuffling his feet nervously.
“I did, but I came here to see you.” Erick replied, tilting his head so Cecil could see his face. Sometimes it really made him jealous, seeing him.
He just knew that Erick’s life was better than his despite being five years- “Why are you here? You’re- You’re not allowed on ships till you’re-”
“Ah ah ah,” Erick pressed a finger to Cecil’s lips. “Legally I am twenty five. Even though you know I’m only twenty, doesn’t mean the government has to continue to know that.”
“You’re insane. Please, please tell me you’re just here socially and not actually going to be doing stuff. Because Priscilla’s going to be royally pissed-”
“No, she signed off on it.”
Cecil stared.
“She did! She said she wasn’t going to let you go off to space without your own protector. She has Opie and now you have me.”
“I don’t need a protector.”
“Yeah well, take it up with your sister. I’ll come make sure you leave for lunch.” And like that Erick was off, walking through the damaged halls with ease.
Cecil watched him, unsure if he was just seeing things or not.
But he didn’t have all day, so he shook his head and made his way over to the electrical room.
Things would be okay, they’d have to be.
Erick was just lying. Yeah. There was no way that androgynous, too young just turned adult had forged government papers, made his way through the security checks and got assigned to actually work his ship.
Impossible.
