Work Text:
You and Inumaki had a routine. Each night before you go to bed, the two of you would trade a couple of songs you listened to and wish the other goodnight.
Tonight was no different.
You made your way to his room with some tea in one hand and a piece of paper with songs written on it in the other.
The door opens after you complete knocking on it. Inumaki is standing before you looking more tired than he should be for a day of resting. Even so, he deserves to get a good night's sleep.
He welcomes you in with a warm smile. You give him a quiet thank you before allowing him to pull you to sit down on the bed.
Inumaki takes the tea and list and sets both by his bedside.
His room is lit only by the lamp in the corner. It casts a glow over the both of you and gives everything a soft yellow tint.
Inumaki pulls your attention back to him by putting your hands into his. His hands have always been kind, but it seems like he’s putting special care in to make sure you know that tonight.
Toga pulls your hands closer to his face and kisses them.
On the palm.
The knuckles.
The tips of your fingers.
His touches are so gentle tonight, unlike earlier today when he wrestling you.
But you know every touch, every hum, every look has always been out of kindness. He doesn’t want you, or anyone else, to not realize how much he cares for them.
“Getting all sentimental, huh?”
Inumaki let’s put a huff at that.
He refrains from giving you an answer, figuring you already know what he would say.
He is getting sentimental. Isn’t there a saying about the moon and how it makes you feel emotions deeper than before?
You can’t remember, but you figure it must be true.
He just brings your hands back down to his lap and looks up at your eyes again. He looks angelic. With the soft light behind him and the peaceful look on his face, you could have easily mistaken him for an angel.
You wonder if he was at some point.
Inumaki pulls you closer still. Your lips almost touching his and then he closes the space between. Giving you a gentle kiss. A simple one, but it conveys what he wants you to know.
You might think he’s an angel, but he knows you’re one.
You stay in each other's embrace for a bit longer. After all, there are no classes tomorrow.
Then, after a big sigh, he pulls his own song list out, hands it to you, and leads you back to your room. Taking a small break in the middle to look at the moon shining through the trees.
So it is true, the moon does make people feel sentimental.
Toga grabs your hand before leading you both back to your room. He leaves you with one final kiss on the forehead as if trying to make everything last forever before he pulls the blankets around you and starts to leave.
“Goodnight.” you tell him like every night before.
“Salmon”
